good anthology.......2005-10-01
Three tales, three talented writers add up to great fun. BRAVA is Kensington's current Romantica/Erotica line. While this book is great reading - I really enjoyed it - fans of pure Brava style might find this a little light in the erotica "heat". The writers are solid. I especially like Jen Nicholas' story. It has GREAT premise for a series, and I hope to see it done down the road. However, by Brava's hot hot hot standards, the story is slower developing. About 80-page novella and the Hero and Heroine don't meet until chapter four. I am not saying this is a fault, just a "meter" for those trying to gauge the level of their romances. If you go in wanting Red Sage level, you might be disappointed. For those of use just looking for a great sexy Romance Anthology then this is dead on target.
Jen Nicholas shows bright promise as a Romance writer. THE CUPID CURSE is engaging, breezy. She is very strong with quirky characters and an original premise that lends itself more to a sexy romance series than erotica. I hope she follows through on this premise and does some CUPID tales. We learn there is not one Cupid, but thousands. There is Cupid Central where they handle details of romances. Like a Romance Publisher who receives a flood manuscripts from hopefuls, Cupid Central is flooded with letters that are along the lines of `Dear Santa' letters, only these are `Dear Cupid, please find me the perfect man (or woman...lol). When Valentine Lewis sends in her request, they naturally sit up and take notice. Gideon is a cupid in training (along the lines of a nun - how they have novices and you get an idea of Gideon's standing in Cupid Central). This is THE case to put him over at CC and get him promoted to full Cupid. Only when he shoots his arrow meant for Valentine's chosen, he ends up accidentally shoots himself in the bum!!! Love has to ensure. The story is bright, witty, engaging, but it's until chapter for until the Heroine and Hero meet. Fine by me, but other erotica readers might get antsy. As I said, the premise is perfect for a series of stand alone titles and I hope to hear more from this talented writer.
MESMERIZED is another funny tale. Amanda Dillon has men dropping at her feet, but she discounts that as they are hypnotized at the time. The one man she wants on his knees is Derek Armstrong. Derek is a reporter and he is on the trail of the elusive Amanda and wants the scoop, even if he has to permit her to hypnotize him to get the down and dirty to prove Amanda is a scam artist. This one sizzles, as Amanda doesn't quite know what to make of the sexy reporter. A delightful tale.
FUZZY LOGIC is by Erin McCarthy and is another enjoyable tale. A bit more Brava style, this story has Ashley Andrew, confession shopaholic, is shocked when her credit cards are maxed to the limit and beyond. She is forced to take on a second job to make payments on the massive debt. She to accept a job as a Pleasure Party consultant. She accidentally leaves her case of "party favors" on the doorstep of sexy next-door neighbor, Lucas Manning. This story is a riot. Ashley and Lucas are a sexy couple, but it's the witty laugh out loud humor as Lucas feels the need to make sure Ashley is prepared to peddle the pleasure toys. McCathy's style of humor is what captivated me, leaving me looking forward to more from this writer.
So this is a SUPER anthology, thought the "heat" is light.
Three Fun Stories!!!.......2005-08-15
Brava has produced another fun "Bad Boys" anthology with Erin McCarthy headlining this time around.
"Fuzzy Logic" is the story of friends that finally realize that they are in love with each other. Well, kind of anyhow. Lucas has always known that he's loved his best friends older sister Ashley. It's now time to make Ashley realize that he is not just her brother's best friend, but the one man for her? Will she finally realize that age is not a factor and that Lucas really loves her for her?
"The Cupid Curse" is the story of Gideon a cupid in training. He has accidently shot himself with the "love" arrow that was meant for Valentine's true love. This might just be the answer to a wish rather than a true curse.
"Mesmerized" is the story of Amdana Dillion. She has more men falling in love at her feet that she can stand. Of course they are hypnotized at the time. The truth of the matter is Amanda would love for Derek to fall mesmerized at her feet but because of love not hypnotism. Will these two find love or will it just be a test of wills?
All three stories were entertaining. They are fun, light reads that are steamy and sensual. Brava has the ablitiy of turning out short stories that don't cheat the reader with content...or lack thereof. This is one read that I recommend that you add to your reading list. There fun, quick, and packed with yummy heros!

three fun erotic romances .......2005-04-27
"Fuzzy Logic" by Erin McCarthy. The package contained adult sex toys that should have went to his best friend Pleasure Party advisor Ashley Andrews, but a mistake delivered it to scholarly Lucas Marcus instead. Lucas realizes his friend has a thriving business over the Internet, but he wants to change their relationship by making him her sex toy. .
"Cupid Curse" by Jen Nicholas. Lonely and despondent Valentine Lewis, named for her holiday being her birthday, pleads with Cupid to send her true love to her. Cupid's apprentice over a century old Gideon intercepts the entreaty. Felling capable of handling the assignment, Gideon visits Valentine only to find he no longer wants to be a virgin as he desires the mortal; she reciprocates.
"Mesmerized" by Jordan Summers. Performer Amanda Dillon hypnotizes men in her act making them desire her. Journalist Derek Armstrong joins the audience to prove she is a fake. However, this time she is unable to bring the hunk out of his trance. Show over, she takes him with her to her home so that she can undo what she did to Derek, who shammed going under, but instead finds he is mesmerized by real desire.
These three erotic romances will hypnotize readers with fine erotic tales in which Cupid would agree that love is illogically fuzzy but searing fun.

I paid good money for this?.......2005-04-21
This book was so bad, I am now turned off from the whole "Bad Boys" series. They have gotten progressively worse, and this one took the cake. While the first story was actually readable and somewhat believable, the last two stories felt more like an insult to my intelligence. The "Bad Boys" series has lost a customer unless I know and like at least one of the authors from previous books.
A must read.......2005-03-12
The Bad Boys of Brava are back in Bad Boys Over Easy. Fuzzy Logic by Erin McCarthy has Ashley Andrews taking on a second job as a part time Pleasure Party consultant. A package of sex toys is left on her hunky neighbor Lucas Manning's doorstop, he is befuddled. Lucas's natural need to know has him curious about the products and testing them out on the delightful Ashley. Fuzzy Logic is a laugh out loud story, the scenes with the products is a riot. Ashley and Lucas really steam up the pages at every turn. Erin McCarthy keeps writing such amazing stories. I love how they make laugh and then get out the fan from the steam.
Jen Nicholas writes the Cupid Curse. Valentine Lewis has had a rough love life. Given her first name and she was born on February 14. She decides to write to the headman in charge of love Cupid. Her letter falls into the hands of Gideon. Gideon isn't the best cupid yet but he tries. He aims, he fires and shoots himself. What started out as a big mistake turns into a love worth keeping. This is not your usual boy meets girl story but it works. It's light, funny and smoking hot.
Mesmerized by Jordan Summers has hypnotist Amanda Dillon making men beg for her affections. Derek Armstrong, ace journalist sets out to prove Amanda is a fake. He pretends to be under he power to get the real story. What he didn't plan on was falling for the real woman. Amanda isn't sure what to make of this man but she is falling for him but will she forgive him when she finds out the truth. Amanda and Derek connect from their first meeting, it sends sparks off the pages.
This is a great three-pack novella. Erin McCarthy is an auto buy for me and now Jen Nicholas and Jordan summers are as well.

This book has the addresses of EVERYONE.......2007-04-10
This book has the addresses of anyone and everyone you would ever possibly want to contact.
So far I have gotten 3 autographed photos from celebrities. I am eagerly awaiting more.
This is the best celebrity address book I have ever gotten. I have been collecting celebrity autographs for about 10 years now, and this is by far the most extensive and complete address book out there.
However- if you are looking for the home addresses of celebrities- you will be out of luck in this case. Most of the addresses are for their agents/talent agencies/casting companies. I would highly doubt that there is a book which has celebrities home addresses. However that would be cool.
Best Purchase Ever.......2007-03-09
What an investment!!! I've already received quite a few autographs from the celebrities in this address book. If you are an autograph collector or just want to write to your favorite celebs, this is the book to purchase! Thank you very much, Amazon!!! This is my best purchase to date!
0 for 1.......2006-11-12
I lost all trust for this book, the first request I sent out came back "Return to Sender- Address Unknown", I won't waste any more time with it, it's going in the trash tomorrow, it would have been quicker to flush money down the toilet then to buy this book!!!
Best Address Book Ever.......2006-03-09
I've purchased address books to the famous for years, and this is the best by far. There's virtually no address missing from the book. It appears very current and I trust the accuracy to run quite high compared to other books out there.

Customer Reviews:
Awesome book for an autograph collector.......2006-12-21
I purchased this book for my husband who collects autographs, mostly through the mail now that we don't live in LA. He loves it! He uses the book on a regular basis to write to sports figures, politicians and actors/actresses. So far we have had good luck with the addresses listed.
What a book!!.......2005-08-24
I must say I'm quite overwhelmed by all the people listed in this book. It's got almost everyone you know of and more! I'm very impressed. The only thing that I think is "wrong" with this book is that they haven't written the title of everyone, so on some people you don't know who they are, but it's not that many. I was very very surprised to find David Mark Chapman's address (prison) in there. Of course it didn't say what he is, although pretty much everyone knows anyway. It seems that some of the addresses are to people's homes. You've got addresses to musicians, politicians, journalists, actors, athletes, writers, Nobel prize winners, doctors, anyone you can think of in the whole world!! It's a treasure! On the website they've got about 10.000 more addresses (I wonder why they didn't put them all in the book??) This is really the ultimate Celebrity Address book I've ever seen. Buy it!
Addresses for ALMOST everyone.......2005-05-12
This book's front cover boasts "over 40,000 celebrity addresses, everyone who is anyone." That's not quite accurate. I've discovered a number of people who were omitted or just plain forgotten. That aside, the book does include addresses for most mainstream celebs, musicians and athletes and presents them in a straightforward, alphabetical listing.
But a word of caution: keep in mind that celebs change agents/managers often, which means their mailing addresses change often too. So this book's shelf life is limited.
What this book sorely lacks is additional information to accompany each listing. For example, has the address for Brad Pitt been tested to see if it is accurate? And, if it has, has anyone (the author?) had success in contacting Pitt that way? This is the stuff that matters if you're a novice (or even exprienced) autograph collector. An address will do you no good if the recipient doesn't read (or get) their fan mail.
Ultimately, though, the book only promises to give addresses, and that's what it does. These addresses have been culled from contactanycelebrity.com, which is
the book's companion Web site. When you buy the book, you can mail/fax in a registration form, giving you one month's free access to the Web site's vast database. That's a nice extra. All in all, the book is good, but a bit pricey for what it delivers given its limited shelf life.
The Few, the Proud, the Living Dead.......2005-05-09
If you are looking for movie stars, this might be a great book. I bought this book (the 2005 edition) primarily to locate artists (e.g., photographers, painters, sculptors). The book is basically useless in this regard. Proportionately speaking, there are extremely few listings of those types of artists. Ironically, even well-known, i.e., "celebrity" artists are omitted, as are lesser known but important ones. The few listed are seemingly random, including comic strip "artists." Worse, several of those listed are either very old (no longer working) or dead. I wonder if the addresses given are for cemeteries? Actually, the addresses for the few artists of interest to me were most often wrong based upon a simple cross reference search on the web. Of course, that also makes me question the accuracy of the other listings. This seems a useful resource for those interested in actors, random athletes and opera singers, but for any other interest--it simply needs to be updated.
Five Stars!.......2005-04-14
I've never had this much research material for so many celebrities until now. For anyone wondering out there, don't second guess buying it.
I also love how you get a free month of their online database which has even more stars, plus you can check to make sure the addresses are up-to-date.

New in paperback Jordan's classic and award-winning work on the history of American race relations.
Customer Reviews:
Superiority Trumps Morality.......2005-12-24
This work is a well-crafted, non-polemical theoretical chronology of the history of race and racism in Western and American culture. Winthdrop Jordan, now a professor at the University of Mississippi, is a careful writer and respected historian. His treatment, although non-polemical, still is very much a white-centered rendition of the formation of racism, with an historical bent and a heavy flavor of the "blacks are still a White Man's Burden" genre.
He sets forth the thesis that racism was not caused by slavery but in fact preceded it by at least a century. Attitudes and myths about dark skinned people formed by European sailors during the era of sea exploration to Africa, gelled and cross-fertilized upon reaching the "New World," where an abundance of land and a scarcity of labor conspired to reduce the Negro to the bottom of the American social and economic heap.
Negroes as slaves were always morally problematic, and American whites were forced to continue fashioning, revising and updating the rationalizations needed to justify their mistreatment and continued enslavement of them. The most stable result was an ideology of racial superiority that melded together the sailors' myths and attitudes about blacks, and a self-serving rendition of white, mostly Protestant, religion. This ideological concoction was so successful that over time maltreatment of blacks was pretty much taken as normal.
Primarily to avoid endangering their souls, only a handful of well-off religious zealots, the abolitionists, failed to accept these rationalizations. They chose adherence to higher moral and religious principles over racist ideology. But interestingly, they did not give up notions of superiority and continued to despise and would not consort with Negroes.
The strength of the book, in addition to being well-written, is that Jordan uses his keen psychological insights to touch on all of the very sensitive issues such as interracial sex, America being a white man's country, founding fathers attitudes towards Negroes, racism in the Caribbean, etc., and does so with a great deal of academic facility.
This is a very worthy effort and its very scholarly nature sets it apart from other books on this topic. Four stars
Highly recommended--especially the first half of the book........2004-11-11
This book was written in 1968 during a time of tremendous turmoil concerning race and race relations, but this book is still valid for anyone interested in the development of slavery and race relations in North America. Granted, his work is not without flaws. Jordan seems to overemphasize the "unthinking decision" aspect of slavery, and sometimes he has a tendency to repeat himself, but this book should not be dismissed simply as "politically correct" unless one wants to dismiss the fact that, for some reason, slavery and segregation were a part of our history.
The Birth of Racial Attitudes from "First Impressions".......2002-08-14
Winthrop D. Jordan answers the question, "what were the attitudes of white men toward Negroes during the first two centuries of European and African settlement in what became the United States of America?" in his book, White Over Black: Attitudes Toward the Negro 1550-1812 (vii). Jordan answers this question comprehensively; his book is sectioned off chronologically into six parts. The first part covers the evolution of the American attitudes regarding the Negroes with references to English perspectives, interpretations, and hypotheses, and topics of enslavement. The second part, "Provincial Decades," involves topics on freedom and control in a slave society, interracial sex, and of the spiritual and physical nature of a Negro. This is followed with an overview on the revolutionary era in which the Americans impose self-scrutiny on their behavior. Part four, "Society and Thought," gives in-depth descriptions on economic interest and national identity, limitations of antislavery, revolution, and result of separation. The last section involves Thomas Jefferson's actions and his impact on society, the "chain of being of the Negro," erasing Nature's "Stamp of Color," and actions toward a white man's country. The organization of these topics demonstrates analytically to the reader the development of racial "attitudes" as time passes.
Jordan's basic perspective of this issue was that slavery was not caused by racism or vice versa, these two factors both attributed to each other's development. This book is predominantly focused on how the Americans and their historical encounters formed and were fashioned by people different from themselves. The impression one seemed to receive upon reading this book was not biased, but of understanding and sympathy for both the whites and blacks; the author wished for equal treatment for the Negroes while having an accepting tone of the white's treatments of black people.
The content of this work is mostly theoretical; Jordan used many opinions of white men, such as their initial expression after exposure to Negroes, and he described the outlooks of various religious groups, such as the Puritans and Quakers. Jordan's theorizing is also well rounded from many aspects, involving political, economic, social, and cultural perspectives of both the black and white men. These theories and facts are organized chronologically, which support the thesis effectively as the reader can see how the different racial attitudes develop over time.
Jordan concludes that this debate over the Negro's racial standing stands within each white American's conscience. The cultural conscience of a white man insists the Negro be treated as his equal based on religious traditions and humanitarianism, whereas the strong feelings of domination and identity demanded the Negro be treated as inferior. He explains, "At a closer view, though, the duel appears more complex than a conflict between the best and worst in the white man's nature, for in a variety of ways the white man translated his `worst' into his `best'" (Jordan 582). This conclusion agrees with the thesis as he explains the behavior of white men understandingly, the slavery and racism coexisted as proof of the white domination.
Winthrop D. Jordan has summed up many aspects of the subject of racial issues in one book with both perspectives of the white Americans and Negroes. I recommend this book to readers who wish to be enlightened with a deep historical analysis of an American dilemma on race.
the best book in the field.......2000-12-09
I write to refute the reviewer who gave Jordan's great book one star. White Over Black is probably the best single work of scholarship in any field on race in American history--still current and trenchant after more than thirty years. Jordan's Jefferson chapters remain definitive, his examination of Europeans' "first impressions" of Africans is classic, and his basic perspective--that one cannot say that slavery caused racism or vice versa, but intertwined--completely persuasive. His insistence that racial attitudes intertwine with sexual stereotypes, prejudices, and self-doubts reshaped the field. The book is brilliantly written and rests on an unmatched mastery of literally thousands of sources. Anyone interested in the history of race in America should read it.
More White Bashing from an Educator!.......2000-06-01
It's amazing how someone can get a Doctorate degree yet be so singularly focused, narrow minded and misinformed about White motivations and insight. Bill Cosby as a Doctorate too. Point taken.

Favortism.......2005-06-03
This book is good for quick reference, but if you are looking for more indepth reading, look some where else. It seems like he picks his favorite deities and writes about them. others he skips over. he'll mention one deity when writing about another, then you go to look up the one mentioned, and he/she isnt even in his book! Dont even get me started on the index!!! what a mess!
Frustrating..........2003-06-13
This book has 2,500 deities listed! Seems like a lot. It certainly is fun to flip through. Encyclopaedias, however, are intended as resource material for when we have specific questions. Many many times I have not been able to find a deity of interest. Many many times I have found the entries to be far too brief and bereft of significant information. Furthermore, there is no index!!! Cross referencing is impossible with this book. To date, I have found my copy to be virtually useless.
Extensive listing of deities, but............2003-01-10
This is a handy book to have around because of the quantity of deities which it lists, and for getting a basic idea of the deities(pantheon/general theme as in associated with wealth, prosperity, sensuality, ect.) The quantity is what got this book three, rather than two stars for my vote.
However, I would not reccomend this book for any sort of in-depth study. Simply going on the information contained about the norse deities(the pantheon I follow) there were too many mistakes and too little information. It seems to even say Freya and Frigga are the same goddess.
Lots of deities, too little info.......2002-05-15
I seriously doubt if Jordan the NBA star wrote this book. Trivia aside, this 'encyclopedia' does cover a good number of gods of the world, not just those of Greek and Roman mythology.
Not much by way of details. It can't possibly cram any significant amount of information on any entry given the fact that it tries to cover so many world deities in so little space (less than 350 pages). I expected more but reading any entry one gets a feeling of just never getting enough, not even enough for an intro. Quite telegraphic in its 'discussion' too. As a random example, under the entry "Ellel" the description goes: "Creator god. Hittite and Hurrian. Derived from Babylonian-Akkadian god Ellil." Rather than encyclopedia it should have been labeled a dictionary, and a very abridged one at that.
One error I've discovered is that Salus is mistakenly referred to as a god when in fact she's a goddess! Other references I've come across all refer to Salus as feminine so I guess Jordan had a lapse there, unless Salus is a hermaphrodite.
great but it could be better.......2000-07-21
i felt like the entries in this book werent indepth enough, and i was shocked he didnt include deities like aradia. however this book was really good it talks about alot of deities.

refreshing reflection on the needs Of Blacks in America.......2004-01-23
Professor Ashby has captured the essence of the status of blacks in america today. he has successfully placed black Americans at the bank of the jordan and has given a refreshing and possiable solution to crossing over. I found the reading to be easy and understandable. This view can change the current state of affairs for Blacks in america if read and applied.

Book Description
On the brink of her fortieth birthday, Susan Ryan Jordan heard the dreaded words "You have breast cancer." In shock over what she thought was a certain death sentence, Jordan began to read a book her doctor, the now famous Bernie Siegel, gave to her, which challenged cancer patients to heal themselves. Immersed in this hopeful message Jordan took stock of her life.
While shocking, Jordan's cancer diagnosis was somehow strangely expected. She had become ensnared in the trap of "fitting in," obeying the dictates of her religion, her family and the social strictures of her town. A painful divorce and temporary leave of her four children for financial reasons only fueled her guilt and overwhelming sense of loss. Despair and self-deprecation had left her open to this life-threatening illness.
Jordan's beautifully written and very poignant personal account reveals how changing negative feelings to hope and confidence can, indeed, reverse the course of a disease-even cancer. She also reveals how the still unresolved and painful split with her daughter, actress Meg Ryan, was caused by her newfound self-confidence and strength, and writes that the journey to health sometimes involves loss, but always leads to understanding and serenity.
This is a book of hope-an affirmation that true healing and peace is within everyone's each.

Highly Recommended!!.......2007-03-08
This book is a richly detailed memoir of a particular woman and time... it is the story of the author, growing up in 1950's New England, who felt obliged to obey the dictates of her family, religion and society and who suffered the loss of her own self-worth. It is a fascinating portrait of a woman who discovered her true self through her life threatening illness and literally willed herself well. The author is a 28 year breast cancer survivor. The book has recently been honored with an Arts and Excellence award from the Heal Breast Cancer Foundation, which is studying it as part of their research programs. The book is in the reading libraries of hospitals and the author has been a spokeswoman for The American Cancer Society and The Susan G. Komen Foundation. The author describes herself as "a classic breast cancer personality who became a classic breast cancer survivor." The book is a deeply personal and inspiring account of one woman's triumph over lessons of her past in order to recover her health and a joyful future. I recommend it highly.
The ties that bind...........2006-06-15
Meg chose to violate her mother's privacy, and I give her mother cudo's for speaking out and defending herself. Like Meg, Susan chose to leave an unhappy marriage; Unlike Meg, she was not making millions of dollars, and I am sure had to make some choices based on survival. How many of our mothers had the choices that MEG has now, my mother sure did not. Life is not perfect; nor is anyone. I can only hope Meg can avoid the pain of losing a parent one day without saying goodbye, like I did. I think the other reviews on this page do not show any depth of character- but then again, movie stars are "perfect", right? History indeed does repeat itself; good luck Daisy.

Book Description
"A DEEPLY AFFECTING NOVEL about the hidden legacy of slavery--from the waning of the Civil War to the early twenty-first century."
--Essence
Georgia McCloud lives to see emancipation. Her daughter Sadie discovers that, though she might be free, she is powerless to break with a man who abuses her. But at the center of their communal pain is Sadie's intelligent, beautiful, ambitious daughter Story, who wants more from life than she's been led to expect. Her uncompromising desire for safety corrupts Story to her very soul, dooming her to wander an emotional desert, repressed, rigid, enslaved to propriety. Her daughter Hermine must then challenge the lie that life is hardship. But can Hermine finally break the cycle of oppression that has chained the women of her family? Can she alone cross over Jordan?
Reminiscent of the early work of Alice Walker and Gloria Naylor, Crossing Over Jordan deftly explores the themes of the mother-daughter relationship, the emotional scars left by history, the struggle to be authentic in the throes of great personal pain, and the transforming power of love.
"Written with passion, force, and compelling clarity, Crossing Over Jordan is a priceless novel that immerses us--even baptizes us--in the deep waters of our humanity. . . . A must-read that deserves a prominent place among books written by African-American women."

Customer Reviews:
This was the most well-written book I have read recently........1998-01-14
Although the storyline is somewhat tragic, the storytelling was exceptional, and the theme was clearly communicated across characters and timeperiods. As a psychologist, I thought the author did a fine job of characterizing the psychological impact of slavery and racism on family dynamics across generations.
Good book.......1997-10-07
I thought this was a good book to read. It gave a lot of insight into the troubles african american women of past generations faced through the life of Story. She was scared to love and be loved. Only through Story's death was her daughter Hermine able to break through her mothers wall and love her.
