Book Description
"There is no Easter Bunny!" insists Father Rabbit. "And rabbits do not lay eggs," he tries to tell his children who are convinced their father is the Easter Bunny. Above the rabbits' burrow is Granny's house, and she has her own Easter problems. With no help from a devilish cat named Barnaby the two worlds collide and Easter becomes a happy holiday full of surprises for everyone. Another delightful holiday book from Lorna Balian.
Customer Reviews:
imaginative illustrations and creative story.......2003-04-21
I grew up reading this book and would look forward to Easter especially so that I could read it. The colors always fascinated me, and the dual story line always hooked me. When I finally grew up, I bought it and have been reading it to kids since then!
Fun for the whole family.......2000-04-29
I began reading this book to my five children almost 25 years ago. The older ones would listen while I read to the younger ones. Now I read it to my grandson and he loves it as much as the others. It's a wonderful book to read aloud and an equally wonderful book for children to explore themselves. The illustrations take many "looks" before you see everything. It's kept the children in our family engrossed (and quiet) on long car trips for a long time.
A Must-Have Easter Treat.......1999-03-19
My family has owned this book for many years, and we've worn it out. Ms. Balain has written a sweet story in several "layers". The illustrations are just perfect and so detailed. We've loved watching the flowers grow and the birds build their nest and wait for their family to hatch as we turn the pages. All of this in addition to the story of the Rabbit Family below ground and Granny and her grandchildren above ground. You'll love it, too. "The mouse told me so."
"'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS" FOR EASTER.......1998-03-18
THIS DELIGHTFUL STORY OF A GRANDMOTHER PREPARING FOR AN EASTER VISIT FROM HER GRANDCHILDREN IS ACCOMPANIED BY WONDERFUL ILLUSTRATIONS. THERE ARE IN FACT TWO STORIES, ONE BELOW GROUND, AND A SECOND ABOVE GROUND. BELOW GROUND A MOUSE HAS CONVINCED THE RABBIT CHILDREN THAT THEIR FATHER IS THE EASTER BUNNY, A FACT HE REPEATEDLY DENIES TO NO AVAIL. ABOVE GROUND THE CAT IS STEALING THE EGGS FROM THE HEN CONFOUNDING BOTH THE HEN AND GRANNY AND PUTTING INTO JEAPORDAY THE EASTER CELEBRATIONS. HOW THESE STORIES COME TOGETHER WILL PROMPT YOU TO LAUGH OUT LOUD. IN ADDITION AS WE TURN THE PAGES WE WATCH WINTER TURN TO SPRING. SUBTLE CHANGES THROUGHOUT THE DRAWINGS CAUSE YOU TO LINGER OVER THEM LOOKING FOR SURPRISES. OVER THE YEARS I HAVE READ THIS STORY OVER AND OVER ALWAYS WITH PLEASURE AND HAVE PRESENTED MANY COPIES OF THE BOOK AS GIFTS. I LOOK FORWARD TO SPRING WHEN I CAN TAKE OUT MY COPY AND PLACE IT ON THE COFFEE TABLE FOR FAMILY AND GUESTS TO ENJOY.

This carefully researched study of America's greatest showman, huckster, and impresario is both an inclusive analysis of the historical and cultural forces that were the conditions of P. T. Barnum's success, and, as befits its subject, a richly entertaining presentation of the outrageous man and his exploits.

Great Overview.......2004-03-03
This book gives a great overview of the life and times of P.T. Barnum. It doesn't go too in-depth about any particular parts of his life but does touch on just about everything he did. It's a great entry level book into the world of P.T. Barnum.

Customer Reviews:
A nice short story..........2007-01-11
I've read many of Diana Palmer's book and well this one was not very different. Since its more like a short story, it doesn't get that well developed.
Story is about a mom (Maggie) who moves out to Montana with her son. The nearest neighbor (Tate) is almost untouchable after he lost his family. However, Maggie is able to win his heart and build her own family with Tate.
Since the story is very short, the character's personalities don't have a chance to develop. However, you can see from the short amount of time that Maggie is very devoted towards her son and Tate is very passionate and somewhat innocent.
A cute story. If you like Diana Palmer, this one should be a quick, good read.

Customer Reviews:
Just what I wanted.......2007-01-25
I read this book as a child and was looking for a copy. I got just what I wanted. There was a slight imperfection on the printing on a coupld of pages. Not sure what is was from, but overall, I was pleased with the product.
Timeless classic!.......2004-05-01
I'm nearly 40 years old and enjoyed this book when I was a little girl in the early seventies. Now that I have two little girls of my own, I love that this story is still around! Lorna Balian has managed to create a character that is sweet and mischievous and endearing and by the end of the story, you will find yourself with a huge smile on your face! I recall begging my mom to help me put all the special and kooky ingredients into a big pot in the kitchen to see if I could stir up some witches' brew! I won't tell you if it worked, you'll just have to see for yourself!
Great illustrations go along with a memorable story. A must-have for any kids' library.
An easy reader's picture book delight.......2004-01-15
Humbug Witch is a simple and delightful children's picture book about a little witch whose witchy things just can't seem to go right. Even her black cat looks down on her - so one by one, she takes off each piece of her witch outfit and goes to bed as a precious little girl. Written and illustrated by Lorna Balian, Humbug Witch is a most enjoyable and confidently recommended easy reader's picture book delight!
Humbug Witch.......2002-12-01
This book is expecially good for younger kids, such as kindergartners or first or second graders. It is also a good book for kids younger then kindergartens. It is a really funny book about a witch that cannot do spells and when she tried to turn her cat into a candy bar he gets sick.
Humbug Witch.......2002-10-13
I read this book to 42 classes of 3, 4, and five year olds over the years and some grandchildren. I'm so happy to have found it again!
It's a great story to explore the scary parts of Halloween with small children and the story line, with Fred, the cat, is attention keeping.

Save your money.......2006-11-26
From the back cover:
BLUEBIRD WINTER by Linda Howard
Kathleen Fields had to reach the clinic, but a Christmas blizzard left her stranded without hope for her life--or her unborn baby's. Then Derek Taliferro arrived with his doctor's skill, his caring heart. Together, they brought Kathleen's child into the world and discovered love, the greatest gift of all.
HENRY THE NINTH by Dixie Browning
Being fixed up with her landlady's brother was not Mary Pepper's idea of a good time. But when a horrible cold and a horrendous work schedule obliterated Christmas, Henry whisked her off for a late celebration on Hatteras Island, where they found themselves creating some rather unusual new traditions of their own...
SEASON OF MIRACLES by Ginna Gray
The town spinster, tenderhearted Kathryn Talmidge had long adored Daniel Westwood in silence. The gruff widower finally proposed--but soley to give his kids a new mom for Christmas! Though motherhood and sharing Dan's life were all Kath had ever dreamed of, now she prayed for the miracle of his love...
THE HUMBUG MAN by Diana Palmer
Montana rancher Tate Hollister had to be the grouchiest, grumpiest humbug man widow Maggie Jeffries had ever met. But, as the holiday season progresssed, Maggie discovered that Tate wasn't completely immune to the Christmas spirit--his loving embrace on a cold winter's night could prove to be the gift of a lifetime...
And my review:
BLUEBIRD WINTER is a story that has been reissued in Silhouette's "Delivered by Christmas" collection. I've already reviewed it on that products page, but I'll repeat it here: I didn't like this story. I know not everyone feels the same way I do, but I don't like graphic descriptions of childbirth. I'm quite squeamish, and that's just not the kind of thing I look for in a romance novel. Children being born - fine. Talking about blood, etc - no. I tried to get past that, but the story didn't capture me. One star.
HENRY THE NINTH was another story that I didn't bother to finish. There was nothing glaring wrong or awful about it, it just wasn't very engrossing. The author liked to head-hop a lot, which was rather annoying. Also, this was a story that was almost all prose and very little dialogue. It felt a little rambling at times. Two stars.
SEASON OF MIRACLES was the only story worth reading in this collection. It was an okay way to spend an hour, but nothing knew is covered here. The marriage of convenience that becomes love, the wife secretly in love with her husband (a man she's pined after since she was sixteen), an unexpected pregnancy, an adorable little boy who longs for a mother, a sullen teenager who wants nothing to do with a new mother, etc, etc. Nothing all that memorable or outstanding. Fine for a one-time read, but not a story you would bother to re-read. Three stars.
THE HUMBUG MAN was, unforunately, another letdown. I've yet to be able to finish a single story by this author. The hero was very annoying, and I could not see what the heroine ever saw in him. I also felt that there was no real attraction between the characters apart from sex. That just isn't enough for a satisfying romance. And the heroine had the weirdest habit of saying comments that made no sense, or just came out of nowhere. Instead of coming across as delightfully eccentric (which is probably what the author was aiming for), the heroine just came across as strange. If I met her in real life, I'd probably start backing away slowly. Plus, the whole thing about her being a widow with a son, yet knowing almost nothing about sex is a tired, and over-done theme. Why is it that a heroine can never enjoy sex, even with her late husband, until the hero gets his hands on her? Sigh. Two stars.
There are far better Christmas romance anthologies out there. In fact, other collections released by Silhouette have had at least one story that was worth keeping. See my list "Christmas romance books worth buying" for a list of my favorites. As for this installment from Silhouette, I would recommend that you save your money.

Customer Reviews:
A Christmas Carol --- In Sunny Patch!.......2006-12-06
"Humbug!" is a book released based on the "Miss Spider" television story by the same name. In "Humbug!," the Sunny Patch characters all celebrate their version of Christmas. Their tradition is the dream bug. The dream bug is a benevolent bug who, like Santa Claus, knows when people have been naughty or nice.
Fortunately for the kids of Sunny Patch, they've all been very good and can expect to have good dreams on the way. Well, all except Bounce. It's not that he's been a bad bug or anything; he's just worried that maybe he hasn't been good enough. He worries that maybe the dream bug won't come to him. He decides that he needs to a good deed in order to make sure that he has sweet dreams. It turns out that Eunice Earwig has sprained a pincher, so he agrees to help her out by making a delivery.
On his way, Bounce comes upon Spiderus. Spiderus, as Miss Spider fans will know, definitely *hasn't* been good all year. And when he sees Bounce, he threatens to eat him. Bounce, however, tells Spiderus about the dream fairy and manages to get off-the-hook. Spiderus agrees to complete the delivery for Bounce. But will he really be good?
"Humbug!" is a story perfect for the winter holidays with the same charm, coziness and delight found in other "Miss Spider" stories. This book features full-page illustrations on every other page and a text that's excellent for read-aloud. Spiderus may be a bit scary for younger readers, but he's really not so bad. The only thing that would enhance this book would be a read-aloud version featuring the late, great, Tony Jay, but unfortunately that won't be possible. Rest in peace, Tony Jay.

The perfect read to get back in touch with the true meaning of Christmas!.......2006-12-29
Revives the meaning of the season...Sherryl Woods, Darlene Gardner and Holly Jacobs help the reader forget the hassle and remember the spirit of the season. In Deck The Halls, Holly Jacobs' characters touch emotions only a parent can appreciate...a truely heart-warming story.
Carol Hutchens
Fun Holiday Read.......2006-12-28
The three stories in "Dashing through the Mall" all take place on Christmas Eve and are set in King's Mall in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In "Santa Baby", police officer Nick DiCaprio reluctantly agreed to play Santa Claus when his sister, who is event coordinator at Kings Mall, asks him to. Nick is on leave from his job because of a tragic case involving a child and his heart drops when a child goes missing at the mall. As Nick helps Amy Riley search for her son, he realizes he is attracted to her and vows his search will have a happy ending in more ways than one.
"Santa Baby" is a nice love story. Nick's ongoing trauma over his previous case is fully developed and very believable. Amy is also a fully developed character. Newly divorced and struggling to raise two young children, her anguish when Josh disappears is very real. Josh is a cute kid, a bit prone to mischief, but loves his mother and sister. The love story between Nick and Amy is sweet, with a nice epilogue at the end.
In "Assignment Humbug" TV reporter Merry Deluca does not have the Christmas spirit. Forced to work with her ex-fiancé Patrick MacFarland, who is determined to win her back, she wants to prove that the commercializing of Christmas is tarnishing the holiday. But, no matter how hard she tries, all she can find is people who are truly enjoying the holiday. Patrick hopes that Merry will change her mind not only about the holiday but their relationship.
"Assignment Humbug" was a nice if unbelievable story. The idea of Merry trying to find people who are grumpy about the holiday was a nice one, but the fact that every single person shopping at a crowded mall on Christmas Eve was happy was unrealistic. More interesting was the relationship between Merry and Patrick and why she wouldn't marry him. That was well done and could have stood alone as a plot line.
In "Deck the Halls", the shortest story in the book, store manager Joy O'Connell has the unenviable job of escorting contest winner Ed Hall and his three sons on a shopping spree through the Harrington and Vine store. Ed's three sons are a handful, but Joy soon finds herself liking the boys and is attracted to their divorced father. Perhaps Joy's Christmas won't be as lonely as she thought it would be.
"Deck the Halls" was a bit too short, but a nice wrap up to the book. Joy and Ed make a cute couple and the boys are a bit of a terror but still lovable. The story has a nice sense of humor, especially with the Hall's set of rules that Ed refers to constantly.
For an anthology written by three different authors, there are a lot of small connections throughout each story, such as the flu ruining holiday plans and the rare snowstorm on Christmas Eve. Josh's disappearance is also mentioned in the second story. I also liked the Christmasy names in each story: Nick, Merry and Joy.
"Dashing Through the Mall" is a fun holiday book to read.
A delightful collection of Christmas stories.......2006-11-29
Courtesy of CK2S Kwips and Kritiques
In Santa Baby by Sherryl Woods, we meet Amy Riley who has just moved to Charlotte with her children after getting divorced. When she takes the kids to the mall on Christmas Eve to see Santa (a family tradition) panic ensues when Amy's son runs off. Who comes to her aid but none other than the man in the red suit himself, police officer Nick DiCaprio helping out for the day. Who would have thought sparks would fly between this odd couple!
Santa Baby was probably the most serious of the three stories in this anthology. Amy is frantic over her missing son and the whole situation brings back bad memories for Nick of the one time he was unable to help a mother's missing child. In spite of the gravity of the plot however, Sherryl Woods handles it with a light and humorous touch to prevent it from becoming too serious a subject for a traditionally happy holiday.
Assignment Humbug by Darlene Gardner has TV reporter Merry Deluca tied up in knots. She is assigned to report from the mall on Christmas Eve and wants to try a new hook... showing how the last minute shoppers are out there for all the wrong reasons. Unfortunately for her, cameraman Patrick MacFarland has other ideas. His plan is to prove to his former fiancée, Merry, that magic is in the air and they belong together. Who will win this battle?
Merry doesn't like when people try to buy the affections of others and to her, that's what Christmas is all about to most people. When Patrick seemed to start doing that to her she couldn't be with him anymore. Patrick on the other hand feels like buying "the perfect gift" is the best way to prove love for another. These conflicting ideals provide a lot of tension for the couple. Watching these two lovebirds come to understand each other through a little Christmas magic makes Assignment Humbug a pleasant read with some laugh out loud moments.
In Deck the Halls by Holly Jacobs, when a flu bug strikes down most of her employees, department store manager Joy O'Connell is stuck having to play escort to Ed Hall and his three sons, the winners of a holiday shopping spree. Nothing could be worse than having to spend the day with the wild and crazy boys, or could it? Can Ed and Joy discover the true meaning of the season together?
Who would have thought holiday shopping with three electronics-obsessed boys would be so amusing? Holly Jacobs brings her own brand of humor to this charming collection with Deck the Halls. Joy is new to town and is lacking in Christmas cheer until Ed arrives. As the two of them spend the day together at the mall, they help each other discover happiness once more. What's most touching about this story is that these lessons are learned through the joy of giving to others.
All three stories in Dashing Through the Mall are sure to please readers. I liked the added touch of having all three occurring simultaneously, at the same mall on Christmas Eve. The only thing missing to link the three was a passing reference to the other novellas in this collection. For example, when characters from one story are in the food court, maybe have had some a line or two connecting them to other characters there, even if by passing notice. That would have helped to solidify the concept of everything going on at the same time. Even without that aspect though, Dashing Through the Mall is a delightful way to pass the time this holiday season.

three cute lighthearted Christmas romances.......2006-11-05
"Santa, Baby" by Sherryl Woods. Following an ugly divorce, Amy Riley moved with her two children from Michigan to the Charlotte area. Today she is supposed to take her five years old son Josh and her infant Emma to the mall to see Santa; so in spite of a fever she does. However, Josh vanishes, panicking Amy, but with the help of the kind Santa, police officer Nicholas DiCaprio, they find her child and much more.
"Assignment Humbug" by Darlene Gardner. TV reporter Merry Deluca's mother accuses her of being an un-American female as she suffers from shopahobia. However, to her chagrin her station sends her to the King Mall to cover a story. Worse her cameraman is former fiancé Patrick MacFarland who wants a second chance to prove they belong together though he is concerned that going for the mistletoe might be over the top.
"Deck the Halls" by Holly Jacobs. After hearing every imaginable musical version of White Christmas (Bing must be turning over), Joy O'Connell has had it with the Yuletide holiday. However, when you are a Harrington and Vine store manager at the mall, you better accept Christmas music to cheer up the customers. Making matters worse much of the employees have the flu just as Dr. Edward Hall and his three terrorist sons invade her sanctuary.
These are three fun, cute lighthearted Christmas romance tales that start off with bah humbug, but soon turns to joy to the world.

Margie writes to Santa Claus asking him for a new teddy bear since her teddy, Herold, is looking a bit shabby. Her bossy older brother Arthur believes that Santa Claus is a humbug and he plans to prove it by creating a trap to catch him. Lorna's delightful illustrations show that Arthur might be wrong about Santa after all. An endearing Christmas tale that will delight both boys and girls alike.

Bah! Humbug?.......2006-12-02
Lornia has been my children's favorite author forever and I know enjoy reading her stories to my grandson. Lecia's artwork is beautiful! I have an original which was illustrated by Lornia. What a wonderfully artist family!
Bah Humburg, Lorna Balian.......2000-12-14
I have been searching for this book! My children and I used to check this out of the library every Christmas for over 5 years! My daughter, Nicole, would laugh about the big brother--and her big brother, Rob, would act just like him. Nicole and Rob were excited about me trying to find this book, even though they are going to be 21 and 25 respectively. These books are for everyone, children and adults alike. Buy it for all your favorite people!
a classic.......1999-11-07
This was a gift and became my first Lorna Ballian book. She is my favorite children's author. I read it to my children many, many times and now have to read it to my second graders. Just like my own children, they say, " Read it again!". Like many of Lorna Ballian's books, another story is going on in the illustrations.Watch that bear! Children love those tricks she plays in the illustrations!
