Still a winner!.......2007-05-25
I loved these books when I was a kid, and now my daughter loves them. Still a classic.
Great read!.......2007-02-08
My daughter is 7 and devoured the Ramona books. She was able to relate to the character and found these books easy to read. They were her first page turners!
A basic for every child's bookshelf .......2007-01-10
I remeber reading the Ramona books as a child and recently purchased the collection for my 8 yr. old and 5 yr. old daughters. They beg every night to hear another chapter read to them. The stories and situations are timeless and they can easily identify with Ramona and Beezus. The stories are told from a child's point of view, which can be sometimes enlightening for us grownups who have forgotten what it's like to be 4 or 5 years old. My girls delight in hearing about Ramona's occaisional "wickedness" and very stubborn nature.
I find myself giggling when I recognize things from the era that it was written (my childhood!) like putting plastic bread bags over your shoes and then stuffing them into rubber boots! I highly recommend this collection of books. The word wholesome comes to mind.
Ramona books are great!.......2007-01-04
I read these when I was a kid and loved them so I bought the first pack of them for my daughter. Once we've read them all I'll buy her the second volume.

"Pb-pb-b-b-b. Pb-pb-b-b-b." With these magic vocables, Ralph the mouse revs up a dream come true--his very own motorcycle. Living in a knothole in a hotel room, young Ralph has seen plenty of families come and go, some more generous with their crumbs than others. But when young Keith and his parents check in to the hotel, Ralph gets his first chance to check out. He has always fantasized about venturing beyond the second floor, maybe even outside. Curiosity overcomes caution, and Ralph must have a go at Keith's toy motorcycle. Soon, the headstrong mouse finds himself in a pickle, when all he wanted was to ride a motorcycle. Lucky for him, the boy understands how it is. When he discovers Ralph in his thwarted attempt to abscond with the toy bike, Keith generously encourages the rodent to ride. He even teaches him the simple trick of starting the motorcycle: "You have to make a noise... pb-pb-b-b-b." The subsequent situations Ralph motors into require quick thinking and grownup-sized courage. The team of Beverly Cleary and Louis Darling has been a great favorite for decades, introducing young chapter readers to Ramona, Beezus, Henry, and of course Ralph the mouse. (Ages 8 and older) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
"Boy!" said Ralph to himself, his whiskers quivering with excitement. "Boy, oh boy!" Feeling that this was an important moment in his life, he took hold of the handgrips. They felt good and solid beneath his paws. Yes, this motorcycle was a good machine all right.
Ralph the mouse ventures out from behind the piney knothole in the wall of his hotel-room home, scrambles up the telephone wire to the end table, and climbs aboard the toy motorcycle left there by a young guest. His thrill ride does not last long. The ringing telephone startles Ralph, and he and the motorcycle take a terrible fall - right to the bottom of a metal wastebasket. Luckily, Keith, the owner of the motorcycle, returns to find his toy. Keith rescues Ralph and teaches him how to ride the bike. Thus begins a great friendship and many awesome adventures. Once a mouse can ride a motorcyle ... almost anything can happen!

PCE student review.......2007-04-18
I highly recommend this book Mouse and the Motorcycle. This is a book parents read to their younger kids, and you will most likely love this book. This book is about a kid and a mouse named Ralph. The kid's name is Keith. He is going to the Mountain Inn in room 215 and Ralph lives in there too. Ralph becomes friends with Keith. Keith decide to let Ralph ride a toy motorcycle and Ralph is only allowed to ride the motorcycle at night. Ralph's family needed food one day and Keith was so nice to give Ralph half of his P.B.J sandwich.
Beverly Cleary is such a good writer. Beverly also wrote the Ramona books. If you like Ramona books you would also be in love with Mouse and the Motorcycle.
cooliest book ever .......2007-03-30
The Mouse and the Motorcycle
The story The Mouse and the Motorcycle is about a family that moved into a new house. A mouse lives in there to. Late at night the mouse snuck up to the little boy's room and woke up the little boy by accident. The boy told the little boy told the mouse that he will not tell the mom nor dad the mouse was not living in the house. The mouse did not know the family had a pet cat.
The mouse asks the little boy if he can sit on the motorcycle. The little boy said "yes". The mouse pretended it was a really motorcycle and then the motorcycle started moving but when you stop making the Rrrrrrrrrrmmm. The noise stopped the motorcycle stopped.
You will have to find out what will happen next by reading the book.

The Book Review of the Mouse and the Motorcycle
Keith would have never expected what was going to happen on his trip to see more of the United States. His dad eventually got sick of driving and they stopped at a hotel for a few days.
This phenomenal book The Mouse and The Motorcycle by: Beverly Cleary. Is an amazing story about a mouse getting to use a kid's toy motorcycle. It is very funny and there are always parts to surprise you. Like parts when an owl tries to eat him and there is cats and also dogs he has to survive from. Also Ralph has to get a pill the one that killed one of his family members a aspirin. Because Keith has a head ache.
The theme of this phenomenal story is the mouse gets to ride Keith's motorcycle. Ralph eventually loses the motorcycle and has to get it back before Keith leaves to see more of the U.S. Ralph gets put down a hamper and almost eats a whole shirt and then he sees the bike but he could not reach it.
In this amazing book there are two main characters Keith the boy and Ralph the mouse. Keith is a very good boy with toy cars and motorcycles. Ralph is mostly naughty and loves the motorcycle. But a lot of unexpected things happen to these two in this amazing story.
This amazing story takes place in an old hotel where a family stops while going to show their son Keith the United States. This hotel is very old hotel which very little people stop at. Including that two old people run the place.
If you want to see what happens to Ralph and Keith's bike read the rest of the book to find out. That is why I think you should read this unforgettable book.
The best "first real book" a kid could ever read.......2007-01-12
This was my first "real book", my son's first "real book" and now my grandson's first "real book". After 40 years I can remember everything that happened in this book. That alone says it all. A fantastic read for young and old.

From the first day of third grade, when Ramona Quimby meets her eventual nemesis Yard Ape, life moves on at its usual wild pace--usual for the boisterous Ramona, that is. Soon she is accidentally squashing a raw egg into her hair at the school cafeteria, being forced to play Uncle Rat with her annoying young neighbor, and, worst of all, throwing up in her classroom. The responsibilities of an 8-year-old are sometimes daunting, especially in a family that is trying to squeak by while the father goes back to school. But Ramona is full of too much vim and vigor to ever be down for long.
In her second Newbery Honor Book about Ramona (the first was Ramona and Her Father), Beverly Cleary presents another slice of the Quimby family life. Author of more than two dozen children's books, Cleary has a true knack for understanding the tangle of thoughts and emotions in a child's mind and heart. Empathic, witty, and astute, she has earned many other awards, including the Newbery Medal for Dear Mr. Henshaw. Alan Tiegreen's clever line drawings have charmed countless readers of Cleary's books over the years, and his style is now inextricably tied to hers. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Ramona feels quite grown-up taking the bus by herself, helping big sister Beezus make dinner, and trying hard to be nice to pesky Willa Jean after school. Turning eight years old and entering the first grade can do that to a girl. So how can her teacher call her a nuisance?
Customer Reviews:
Classic!.......2006-12-02
Being eight isn't easy; just ask Ramona Quimby. She's expected to be old enough to "play nicely" with her baby-sitter's toddler and to understand why the family hasn't enough money for life's little extras...but somehow, she isn't old enough to be included in her older sister Beezus' plans or to understand why her teacher might not like her.
Although written decades ago, Ramona's life is plain to anyone who reads about her today. What child can't relate to her joys and worries? Best of all, no matter what happens, it's apparent that Ramona will be all right...she has a family that love one another and will stick together through good and bad times alike.
This book brings back memories.......2006-01-03
Ramona Quimby, Age 8 is written by Beverly Cleary and gets a 5 star rating by me.
I am rating this book 5 stars because it just brings back memories to kids older than 8. If you aren't older than 8 then it shows you sort of shows you what is to come in the future. Her lifestyle is a lot like a real human's lifestyle. That is another reason why I enjoyed reading this book so much. The author just amazes me because she makes a charcter that is not really a real person turn to life. As an example she lives with her sister who always bothers her. She has a cat and a next door neighbor named Henry.
My life relates to hers so much. When I was in 2nd grade people would like to take my things without asking. Just like in the novel, when Danny "The yard ape" steals her eraser and throws it around with his friend. This book also relates to my life when Ramona got that egg dropped on her head. When I was in fourth grade one of the same situations happen to me. My friend Eric started laughing really hard and spit his yogurt all over me then after that I had to go to the nurse and get it all cleaned up.
Some other books I would recommend are, Ramona and Her Mother, Ramona and her Father, and all the other Ramona Quimby books. I really recommend you to read this book.

Ramona Quimby Rocks and Cleary is so Great!.......2005-12-04
This book takes the reader through the journey of Ramona Quimby your average girl. Ramona has just turned 8, which makes her big and is going to a new school. Beatrice her older sister is always having the upper hand on Ramona. Ramona's father is going back to school and the family is struggling just to make ends meet. Ramona stays in the afternoons with Howie Kemps grandmother and Howies little sister Wilma Jean. Wilma Jean is a thorn in Ramona's side. Ramonas mother begs her to keep the peace and be responsible so Mrs. Quimby can continue working. On Ramonas first day of school she is faced with Danny a bully who steals her eraser. Ramona gets the best of Danny and calls him Yard Ape. After this Danny respects her and Ramona kinda has a crush on him. Ramona is indifferent with her new teacher Ms. Whaley. Throughout the book Ramona is faced with problems such as being a nuisence to her teacher, "Yard Ape", her sister Beezus and her mother and fathers tiresome struggle to pay for bills, manage a family and work and go to school. In the end of the book after a much hard day of frustration the family goes on a limb and goes to Whopperburger. While there they come across an old man who is interested in the family. Towards the end of the meal the Quimbys find out that the man has paid for their dinner, because they remind him of his family and how nice of a family the Quimbys are. This action makes the whole family realize how special their relationship is and how even though they all may be cross in some situations that they are in fact one happy family!
Ramona Quimby is such a great character. A teacher could use this book to simply engage students in reading and allow them to connect with reading and the characters involved. Students can understand what it means to be a "family" and what it is like to grow up. A teacher could do a lesson on manners and what to do in situations that Ramona faced with her classmates and especially "Yard Ape". Students could be involved in a lesson that goes over what to do in a situation where a bully is involved and what actions to take when a circumstance such as a bully occurs. Also, students could do an art lesson that involves perspective with the example of Ramonas father drawing her foot.
I really enjoyed this book. I never really read any of the Ramona books when I was younger. I love how Beverly Cleary makes Ramona come to life and how her troubles in life seem to work out one way or the other. This book I feel holds up to the good literature framework and I love how even though each character is flawed in some way that in the end they all seen to come together and make their messed up life work. I found myself really connected with this family and many of the situations that Ramona faced in her school life the same things that I faced when I was in school. I overheard one time my teacher say something about me. It really had an impact on my life and my feeings toward school. I, like Ramona, took what I heard and placed the emphasis and meaning of what the teacher said wrong. The teacher however meant something different. I really loved this book and cannot wait to read the rest of the Ramona Quimbys crazy life!

RALPH THE MOUSE/THE MOUSE AND THE MOTORCYCLE.......2007-02-17
These books are outstanding. I got them for my son when he was 6 years old. Each time we got into the car to travel any place, my son would start talking and never cease until we got back home. No one wanted to travel with us. I decided something had to be done or no one would ever ride with us again. A woman who owned a bookstore in Phoenix Arizona told me about them and that she guaranteed he would become so interested in the books that I wouldn't have to worry about the constant talking ever again in a car. I took them home, gave them to my son and the rest is history. He was enchanted. The next time we got in the car to go shopping, there was such silence that I had to pull over to the side of the road to make sure he was okay. He eyes were so glued to the book that he actually "shushed" me. I highly recommend Beverly Cleary to any parent looking for a great book, wonderful story and a peace of mind when traveling.
I remember..........2006-11-05
I bought this series to read to my after school kids program - they not only listened to the reading, but asked for more! As I read these out loud I again experienced the great story of Ralph, just as I did when I was a child! The kids are now telling me when they check them out of the library for their own reading assignments - how wonderful is that?

Adventures of Ralph S. Mouse .......2005-10-06
Our son, just turned 6, has enjoyed all these books. They are great stories for ages 4 & up. Ralph and the humans he finds himself around go through a wide range of emotions and social situations that you just don't find in cookie cutter story books. The illustrations are just B & W 'pencil sketches' but he studies each one in detail. We were all 3 taken with the idea of the mouse cruising around on the toy motorcycle. I think that the author of these books was likely a motorcycle enthusiast herself as she clearly conveys through Ralph, the pride of ownership, the feel & excitement of the ride and the longing for the wind in your whiskers !! I found these while searching for motorcycle related stories for my son when he was just turning 5. They are probably my favorite books in his collection too. These are excellent stories that parents will enjoy as much as kids. I think Runaway Ralph is my favorite. I wish there was more than 3 of these stories - maybe I just haven't found them yet.

Runaway Ralph.......2003-12-10
Our little friend back. He is sick and tired of all his little cousins wanting to ride his mouse-siezed motorcycle. For this he decides to runaway for he sees his mother and uncle not helping him. Ralph envisioned fun, freedom, and delicious crumbs of penut-better-and-jelly sandwiches at camp Happy Acres. Though instead he encounters a strict watchdog, a mouse-hungry cat, and more fur-raising escapadles. If you are looking for fun and dangerous adventure than this is your book.

Ramona's father has lost his job, and there's a grumpy mood in the Quimby household. Ramona just wants everyone to get along, but it's hard when her mother is worried all the time, her father is grouchy, and Beezus is just ... Beezus.
Ramona and Her Mother
Ramona always tries to do the right thing ... so why does everything turn out so wrong? At seven and a half years old (for now), she's worried about spelling and about Willa Jean getting all the attention. Most of all, she's worried that her mother may not love her anymore.
Ramona Forever
It is a time of change for Ramona and her family. Aunt Beatrice is getting married, Ramona's father is looking for a new teaching job, and Ramona's mother suddenly seems a little thicker around the middle. Amid all the chaos, Ramona must say good-bye to one family member and hello to a new one.
Ramona's World
Ramona can't wait for school to start -- she's sure fourth grade will be the best year of her life. With a new baby sister, a new best friend, Daisy, and some glorious new calluses on her hands from the rings in the park, Ramona is on top of the world!

Ramona And Her Mother.......2005-12-21
I am a 44 year old security guard, and this book was given to me by a fireman. I have read it about 400 times. This is the most endearing book I have ever read, and I read a lot of books.
Poor little Ramona is seven years old, and she gets into more trouble trying to be good than anyone I know...except when I was that age...
From wasting the toothpaste to wearing her wonderful new pajamas under her clothes to school, she certainly reminds us of our own childhood...(in my case it was shaving lather). I am online to find other Ramona books.

Nothing ever happens to Henry Huggins. Nothing, that is, until a stray dog named Ribsy comes into his life. Pretty soon, Henry and Ribsy are wreaking havoc on the city bus, getting a ride in a police car with sirens wailing, and winning a prize at the dog show. Thanks to their joint shenanigans, Henry finds himself covered in green paint one day, and later accidentally colors Ribsy's fur pale pink. One week, Henry catches earthworms for his fisherman neighbor to raise money for a borrowed ball Ribsy helped him lose. One football costs a lot of earthworms--1,395, to be exact. Plus 41 worms for tax. Life is no longer dull.
Beverly Cleary's lively, award-winning books virtually shout "good, old-fashioned fun!" Since 1950, Henry and his friends (found in Beezus and Ramona and Newbery Honor Book Ramona and Her Father, among others) have displayed all the mixed-up emotions and tricky jams kids everywhere seem to experience. Henry's action-packed days are captured in droll line drawings by Louis Darling. Luckily for young readers, there are dozens of Cleary books to explore as soon as this one is devoured. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter

And that's only the beginning of Henry's exciting new life!

Wonderful book.......2007-05-29
I read this book when I was a child and I truly enjoyed it. I am now home schooling my son and we are going to read the entire series together. I think that any child from the age of 7-12 would enjoy this series. Especially little boys. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. Happy reading. Carol Salyer from the great state of Tennessee....
Girls Will Like It, Boys Will Love It!.......2007-03-16
Henry Huggins wasn't the best book that I have ever read, but I did enjoy it. One of my favorite parts is when Ribsy, Henry's dog, rolled in the mud right before the dog show. Henry saw another boy putting white powder on his dog to make him look whiter, so he tried it also. He was surprised that the powder was not white, but PINK! Since Ribsy was wet from the mud, Henry could not rub the powder off of him, so he decided to cover him completely in pink. At the end of this chapter Ribsy won a silver cup for being the most unusual dog at the show.
I would read Henry Huggins by Beverly Cleary again, and I think that boys would like it even better.
(Note from mom: I read chapter one aloud to my first grade daughter whom decided to read the rest to herself. This is a good read for a child who is ready to go beyond simple chapter books, but is not yet ready for something too long and thick.)
Henry Huggins.......2007-03-02
Henry Huggins is a boy that lives with his mom and dad in a house on a street called Klickitat Street.Henry is a ordinary boy that nothing excited ever happens to him except when he was 6 years old he broke his arm by falling out of the cherry tree. When Henry goes downtown to swim at the Y.M.C.A he finds a dog thta he wants to keep and then his life changes when he has that dog as his pet. He relizes how pet are important and hard to takt care of.He needs full responsibilities to take care of his dog named Ribsy.
A great 3-4 grade book .......2007-02-23
I think that a book like this should be read by a sagacious [..]. The protagonist's name is henry huggins. He is in [...]and he is not a normal boy. He will go out of his way to get what he wants. He will spend all of his money on his dog Ribsy. I used to read books like this beccause i liked to read about boys my age. I do think this book is worth reading.
Love Henry Huggins.......2007-01-10
When I was just starting to read, I would check out all the Henry Huggins books from the libary. It was fun to see the 50th Anniversary Edition available through Amazon.com. I ordered myself & my sister one. We both enjoyed getting the books & remembering reading them in our younger days.

Great author!.......2007-05-09
I purchased this book for my daughter who loves reading Beverly Cleary books. I read her books, too, when I was little. I have purchased just about every book she has written!
A Great Dog Tale.......2007-03-12
My 7 year old grandson and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ribsy while driving. In fact my grandson would beg me to stay in the parked car once we were home so he could continue to listen. Of course I couldn't do that because I had to know what was happening next to Ribsy also. It's a delightful story for both young and slightly older ears.
great story .......2006-07-25
Ribsy is an excellent story my girls enjoyed listening to. They like to hear stories more than once, and this is one I don't mind hearing repeated! The packaging of the CD set is made of paper and I don't think will last over time and use.
Ribsy.......2005-12-06
The main idea is Ribsy the dog was gotten himself hopelessly lost in huge shopping mall parking lot in a rainstorm. Ribsy runs all over looking for the Huggins` family car.
Detail one. One if the detail is when Ribsy got a bubble bath!! Joy folly sally and Lisa began to swish their hand in the water to make bubbles, lot of them. Giving a dog a bath was fun, but was even more fun. Eight hands and a whole bottle of bubble bath can make a lot of bubbles. The girls screamed with pleasure as Ribsy found him surrounded by billows of bubbles that were rising higher and higher.
Detail two. The second detail is when Ribsy when to all club for ladies. The ladies of the club all gasped and applauded at him that he dropped his pipe. Mrs. Frawley picked it up and poked it into his mouth once more. "Sit up Rags, "She directed. "Sit up boy. Obediently Ribsy sat up. All the ladies laughed. Isn't that cute? They murmured. Isn't that adorable. Just like a little old man."
Detail three. The third detail is at the lunchtime Ribsy got in line and went to the cafeteria where he finished the sandwiches of those. Who asked him to-except peanut-butter sandwiches? These Ribsy would sniff and politely refuse. Peanut-butter stuck to his teeth. After lunch he lay at the back of the room with his nose on his paws, waiting for school to be out so that he could play with anyone who wanted to play with a friendly dog. It was a pleasant life of a dog.
My conclusion. I did like the book because; I don't like to read books. But if you do like to read I recommend this book for you.
funny, touching book for 6-9 year olds.......2005-07-14
In my opinion, this is one of Cleary's finest.
I first got into it when my 2nd grade teacher read it to our class.
It is about a dog, Ribsy, who is very much loved by his owner Henry Huggins. He climbs out of his family's car in a shopping mall parking lot and decides to do a bit of exploring. He then decides he wants to go back to the family car and go home, but he can't identify the car. He tries to find his way back home, but can't find the way. Many people take him into their homes but he is never content to stay.
Kids who own pets of their own will be able to relate to Henry's sadness over his missing dog, and his determination to find him no matter what.
The illustrations are adorable.

When, in second grade, Leigh writes to an author to tell him how much he "licked" his book, he never suspects that he'll still be writing to him four years later. And he never imagines the kinds of things he'll be writing about:
Dear Mr. Henshaw, I am sorry I was rude in my last letter... Maybe I was mad about other things, like Dad forgetting to send this month's support payment. Mom tried to phone him at the trailer park where, as Mom says, he hangs his hat.
It's not easy being the new kid in town, with recently divorced parents, no dog anymore, and a lunch that gets stolen every day (all the "good stuff," anyway). Writing letters, first to the real Mr. Henshaw, and then in a diary to a pretend Mr. Henshaw, may be just what he needs.
This Newbery Medal-winning book, by the terrifically popular and prolific Beverly Cleary (Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and Runaway Ralph), exhibits a subtlety and sensitivity that will be appreciated by any youngster who feels lonely and troubled during the transition into adolescence. Winner of numerous other awards, including two Newbery Honors, Cleary teams up with Caldecott winner Paul O. Zelinsky, who creates a quiet backdrop for the realistic characters. (Ages 8 to 12) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
Dear Mr. Henshaw,
I wish somebody would stop stealing the good stuff out of my lunchbag. I guess I wish a lot of other things, too. I wish someday Dad and Bandit would pull up in front in the rig ... Dad would yell out of the cab, "Come on, Leigh. Hop in and I'll give you a lift to school."
Leigh Botts has been author Boyd Henshaw's number one fan ever since he was in second grade. Now in sixth grade, Leigh lives with his mother and is the new kid at school. He's lonely, troubled by the absence of his father, a cross-country trucker, and angry because a mysterious thief steals from his lunchbag. Then Leigh's teacher assigns a letter-writing project. Naturally Leigh chooses to write to Mr. Henshaw, whose surprising answer changes Leigh's life.
Customer Reviews:
Dear Mr.Henshaw.......2007-06-14
I just finished reading a book called "Dear Mr.Henshaw". I think that it's just a waist of time writing letters. Some characters in the story are Leigh Botss, Mr.henshaw and Biscuit the dog. I think it's really interesting book. I liked the book because it's easy to read the book. It is no that complicated to read I also loved it because. It's too funny sad, and boring at times. I also thought that I would hate the book. But, once I opened and read it, I loved it so much. I also loved it because my friend recommended this book to me. I think the book is interesting to read.
Hated this book.......2007-06-12
I strongly disliked this book. this probably was one of the worst books I have ever read. The reason I somewhat enjoyed this book was making fun of it in class with my friend. I thought it was stupid and was boring. Don't read this Dear Mr. Henshaw, unless you like to mock of books.
The book that made me want to be a published author.......2007-04-18
If I had to choose any book from my childhood that encouraged me to read more, it would have to be this book by Beverly Cleary. This book is well written for such a young age group but is still readable for adults, as well. In fact, her book made such an impact on me that this book motivated me to want to be a published author (and I am). I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who was positively impacted by her story.
This book contains a lot of insightful tales that are still very applicable to today's world. Leigh writes to his favorite author to tell him how much he enjoyed his book, he never suspects that he would still be writing to him years later.

Dear Mr. Henshaw.......2007-04-06
Jimmy carnes book 3/26/07 review
There are numerous problems and solutions in Dear Mr. Henshaw. The 2 lager problems are no one is inviting him over after school and someone is stealing his lunch. The minute I read about leigh not having any friends I went in shock because he sounds awesome.
Beverly Cleary is so descriptive like when she describes what kind of lunch box and alarm he buys so he can capture the criminal you have to read to see if he does. If I were him I would have just give up but he didn't .this is a realistic fiction piece. This book is good for all ages because of its heart warming solutions.
Spare your 4th grader..........2007-04-03
Let me start by stating that im a 24 year old university educated individual.
This book was thrusted into my face and forced into my brain when i was in forth grade. It was by far the most driest and boring book i've ever read at that point in my life...and continue to be so until college. Now, i dont remember anything at all about this book other than the fact it was about some boy writing letters to some man; but the fact that i dont remember anything gives you an idea at how little i stimulted.
Till this day, im reluctant to even bother to re-read this book and give it another chance. I've been scarred for life.
I have no doubt that this books contains a lot of substance and insightful tales, but the thought of reading some poor pathetic boy's letters causes me to shriver.
If i would have to chose any book of my childhood that discouraged me from reading more, it would have to be this. PLease spare your child/student from the tortures of this book. Maybe once they've grown mentally and have the capacity and patience to understand it, it would be a great book. But at such a young age, its a horrible read.
I noticed that this book recieved some high marks from young readers; for some reason i feel that those ratings may be incorrect and the young children's opinions may have been "clouded". Do you teacher's know no shame?

Book Description
At last, Henry Huggins's father has promised to take him fishing, on one condition. Henry's dog, Ribsy, has been in all sorts of trouble lately, from running off with the neighbor's barbecue roast to stealing a policeman's lunch. To go on the fishing trip, Henry must keep Ribsy out of trouble -- no chasing cats, no digging up lawns...and no getting anywhere near little Ramona Quimby, the pest of Klickitat Street.
Customer Reviews:
Good Ol' Fashioned Fun! .......2006-11-06
Henry and Ribsy is divided into 7 chapters and each works like a short story and all 7 weave together to build up to the larger tale and just like Henry Huggins, this book is a hilariously fun read!! As you read this book you'll find yourself wondering; Does a dog go to jail if he steals a cop's lunch? What happens if your dog thinks he is protecting your most precious possessions when the garbage man comes to collect the trash? What should your mother do when she gives you the worst home hair cut ever? What is the best way to pull out your loose canine teeth? What do you do when Ramona says the bone is a sammich and the dog wants it back? And will Henry be able to keep Ribsy out of trouble for two months so he can go salmon fishing with his father in September...and most importantly, if he does, will he catch that Chinook salmon he's been dreaming of? Henry and Ribsy is still as fresh and fun as when it was written 1954...it does have a quaint 50's feel to it (kind of a Beaver Cleaver and family feel), but that's a good thing in this case...just good wholesome, FUN reading, heck even my daughter loved it! I rate it an A+ and recommend the adventures of Henry and Ribsy to all young readers!
Henry and Ribsy.......2006-02-11
I like this book because something bad would always happen, but Henry and Ribsy would always find a way around it. Although a boy would understand this book more,I liked this book alot. If you understand dogs no matter what they do, you will like this book a lot.
Henry and Ribsy.......2005-11-30
Henry and Ribsy is a great realistic fiction kids book by Beverly Cleary for boys/girls at ages 10-14. It's about a boy and his dog, Ribsy, that are best friends. The boy, Henry, wants to go fishing with his dad, but to go fishing he has to keep his dog out of trouble for two weeks. Scooter, his friend, said "You won't catch a fish", but Henry thinks he'll land a huge fish. The only thing standing in his way was Ribsy. Find out if he gets to go fishing or not.

Brandon's Review.......2005-10-18
I like the book "Henry and Ribsy" because it is a great kid's story and a great fishing story.
This book is about a kid named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wants to go salmon fishing but his dog gets in a lot of trouble with the neighbors. Henry's dad tells him that if Henry can keep Ribsy out of trouble for two months, his dad will take him salmon fishing. Henry keeps his deal and keeps Ribsy out of trouble for two months. Henry, Henry's dad, and Mr.Grumbie are now going salmon fishing. Will Henry catch a salmon, or not? Read the book and find out.
I think that people who like fishing and are kids about age 8-13 would like this book because it is a great fishing book with great details. This book is not a very difficult book to read, so if you have nothing to do one afternoon, pick it up.
Henry and Ribsy Biggest and Greatest Adventure.......2005-04-04
This story takes place in the present in September because in that year all of the people who like going fishing go. The story is important because is how Henry changes Ribsy behavior so he can go fishing with his dad.
This book is mostly about a kid named Henry and his dog Ribsy. Henry wanted to go salmon fishing with his dad because he is jealous that Scooter his best friend went fishing. Scooter got a salmon that weight 15 pounds. Henry is jealous so he says that he will go and get a chinook that weight 20-30 pounds. Then Henry ask his dad, but he said that he need to keep Ribsy out of trouble with the neighbors. The middle of the book is a lot of funny because Henry tried to get his teeth out because their already loose. Henry uses his dog to get them out. When his mom comes home from store she cuts Henry hair in a funny way.
In my opinion I like when Henry father says that he needs to take care of Ribsy to go salmon fishing with him. It is very funny story. I would recommend this book because it tells you how a father educates a child so he can go fishing with him. A child can learn how to take care of dogs like Ribsy in the story.

The engaging tale of young Ramona Quimby's first days in kindergarten, Ramona the Pest takes a pint-sized perspective on the trials and delights of beginning school. Ramona can't wait to learn all the important things. But she's disappointed when her teacher can't fill in missing parts of story lines, such as how Mike Mulligan (of Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel) went to the bathroom while digging the basement of the town hall. Nonetheless, Ramona loves her teacher, and loves going to school in spite of the torments--having to wear hand-me-down boots, for example, or having to (sometimes) suppress the urge to pull on another girl's "boing-boing" curls. Ramona's energetic take on life appeals to children who have passed through this stage, or who are dealing with a kindergarten-age sibling who is exhibiting Ramona-ish tendencies. (Ages 7 to 12) --Richard Farr
Book Description
Ramona is off to kindergarten, and it's the greatest day of her life. So why is she sitting on the bench while the rest of the students play the game gray duck? Laughs and minor upsets abound in an enormously popular story starring the one and only Ramona Quimby!

Boy Oh Boy for Madison.......2007-02-12
I llike this book called Madison Finn, Boy Oh Boy because Madison gets put in charge of the Far Hills Junior High class election site.Creating is easy until somthing is very very very very wrong. And just when Madison thinks she had all the pollitics.Dad shows up with his new running mate.
Ramona is Ageless.......2007-01-17
Ramona is five and couldn't be more excited about Kindergarten. However, Ramona finds herself in trouble more than once, what with the problems with Susan's curls and the substitute. Nevertheless, Ramona is a spunky little girl who is hard to believe isn't real.
I've been reading Ramona since I was little and I continue to read them now. Ramona and her family are ageless and apply to kids now, no matter how old the books become. The great thing about the Ramona books is that they are very enjoyable for parents as well, so they make good books to read to the kids.
Dawnzer and Vocabulary Development.......2006-12-17
This delightful book helped to inspire a lesson plan I have on my site which uses music to improve vocabulary. I love the way Beverly Cleary has of handling children's mistakes with sensitivity. We laugh at Ramona but we also understand and are "pulling" for her. I admire all of Cleary's books but if I had to pick a favorate, this would be it.
Ramona the Pest.......2006-07-28
Ramona Quimby has started kindergarten and is learning new things each day. Ramona is not only learning how to write her name but is learning life lessons. She is also making new friends.
I enjoyed the book because it was humorous. Ramona's reactions to her teacher and peers were funny. They reminded me about times when I was in grade school, such as girls chasing the boys they like or girls admiring other girls long hair. This a a great book for those who love humorous stories.
