Grand Verbalizer Brother J moved in a different direction from the classic X-Clan for his follow up project. His eerie flow of conscious, philosophical, and theological lyrics is beautifully complimented by the deep dark jazz flavored beats. This album is nothing less than extraordinary.

One other note - my personal favorite DSR track is not on this album. If you can find the single for the song "dark sun riders" , get it!! The B-side is a track called "The Eclipse Begins" and its MIND BLOWING

X-CLAN represents a height in hip hop. In their music they created worlds, mythologies, languages. I cannot think of another artist in the genre who's voice is so much like a musical instrument as that of Brother J. His poetry, the way he rides the rhythm, the power in his inflections are unparalleled in hip hop. I heard about this record when it came out but only recently purchased a used copy. I cannot overstate the mind boggling genius of this album. The beats here are sicker than ANYTHING you've heard on the radio today or even in the past decade. The rhymes Brother J. slams you with are like pyramids compared to the house-of-cards disposability of todays so called "talents." If you are a true hip hop lover, and not just some trend-following, party-music lovin' dope head, I cannot recommend the DARK SUN RIDERS enough. This record was made over ten years ago, but I swear to you, nothing can touch this. Come diddy dum...It's time to build!

As a huge fan of Brother J's old crew X Clan I was eager and anxious to get this cd in the mail and as a fan I was not let down. I have no idea how this album did not get the recognition that it deserves. At least in my town. Each track is laced with the illest beats and the fattest drums; not to mention Brother J's awesome voice and lyrics. If you appreciate good, quality hip hop with a positive message this is the album for you. And don't be fooled - the positive vibe is backed up with ill, griddy, underground beats to serve any ol' schooler, backpacker, graff writer, or skater. Pass the word.

By far a HIP HOP classic for real heads that want message, lyrical content, and dope beats. A must for any real hip hop follower.
