3 out of 5 stars Nice effort by the Sugaworf Pimp.......2005-07-07

"Turf Matics" is Dubee's 4th album. It was released on Mac Dre's label Thizz Records. The album is different than the first 2 (that were both on Black Brotha Records, and produced by the one and only Khayree) and the 3rd one as well (which was released on Coolio Da Undadog's label, and featured a lot of his artists and tight beats). Dubee works with a whole new group of producers, most of them unknown. However, you get one beat by Khayree and it's a good one, and a few by Sean T (and he doesn't dissapoint on that one at all). The other producers come out with tight beats at times, and weaker ones at others... And that's the biggest problem on this album - the beats. Some of them aren't good enough or just don't fit Dubee's unique style. Maybe the album was too long, it could've been much better with some of the songs off... Dubee's flow is one of the best in the industry, no doubt about that. He usually flows real fast, and without really slowing down throughout his verses, the boy's got suprior breath control. Lyrically Dubee's imroved quite a bit from his previous albums, although the topics never really change. But it's all good - Dubee is all about game, pimpin', and representing the Crestside. He rarely touches the Gangsta topics. You also get some great appearences by The Cutthroat Commettee (Mac Dre and PSD), Reek Daddy (featured on the best song on the album and one of Dubee's greatest ever!), J Diggs, Richie Rich (however the song with him is one of the worst...) and a few other. Overall, I would recommend it to Dubee fans, people familiar with his previous work. I see Dubee as one of the Vallejo's most talented rappers, and altough the album has it's weak spots (a few wack songs and totally useless skits) it's still a good effort, and Dubee's talent is obvious.

5 out of 5 stars i need my E jus to fu#$.......2005-06-02

this is the latest album from dubee and its off the hook. The beats seem a little different from his older work but they are tight. sean t on the tracks came out tight. i saw dubee at the arden mall in macramento. wish i had one of his cds on me so he could have signed. its all good cuz i got to meet him out of the cuts at champs.

4 out of 5 stars The incredible Khayree strikes again!.......2007-03-09

Dubee's 1996 debut album is a perfect example of the hip hop brilliance of Young Black Brotha Records. Between 1995 and 1996, the label was releasing album after album of great Bay Area hip hop, from artists including Young Lay, Ray Luv, Mac Mall, and others. The YBB product was always greater than the sum of its parts. The usual lyrics dealing with "tales of triple-beams and ice cream" wouldn't look so great on paper, but the YBB rappers all had great charisma and excellent flows. But the true star of YBB was the in-house producer, Khayree, who made YBB the powerhouse it was. Khayree is an amazing producer, whose signature sound is one of the most underrated musical geniuses in the hip hop world. I'd say that "Dubee aka Sugawolf" is the single best album Khayree ever produced musically. The beats here are simply spectacular. Khayree uses all kinds of live instrumentation, most notably his favorite slide trombone player, in addition to his woozy synths and banging drums and basslines to make such a rich and thick musical backdrop that this would sound awesome without any singing or rapping. Sometimes in the middle of songs, Khayree will end one beat and put on a whole new one. There is also a good balance of laidback and hard, upbeat songs that show his versatility. Dubee should obviously be given credit as well. He's not exactly an astounding lyricist, but he certainly keeps it interesting all the time. His personality and storytelling are likable, and he has a really nice flow that glides over the beats. One might compare his sound to Lil Wayne, they have fairly similar voices and a laidback, sing-songy type of flow. There are some nice guest appearances from the various YBB rappers and talented hookmen scattered throughout the album, and multiple tracks extend well beyond the usual 5 and a half minute max length of hip hop, creating a fairly loose and almost live studio feel. "Dubee aka Sugawolf" is a very underrated and slept-on release, musically excellent and one of the best pieces of the phenomenal Young Black Brotha catalog.

The album opener "I'm a Hog" is an upbeat, bass-heavy banger where Dubee is allowed to introduce himself and his style. It's a real catchy, head-bobbing cut. "The Word" follows, a solid song that doesn't really stand out on this album. The 7+ minute posse cut "YBB Bomb" features his label mates on a well produced track. "Game U Feenin' 4" is funky has nice instrumentals. I absolutely love the song "Mackin' Is My Duty," which has a phenomenal beat and a really nice hook too. The vibes and instrumentals on this song are excellent, and Dubee creates a cool attitude for it. At the time of this release, YBB founder Mac Dre had just been released from prison, so he has a solo song in "Game I'm Spittin'." Personally I never liked Mac Dre too much, but I know he has a dedicated fanbase that will probably like this song. "That's What We Do" might be the best song on the album, with a very laidback vibe and an awesome soulful hook. And if that isn't the best song, then "My Thang" is, because this is a perfect song. The droopy trombone, funky bass, and another awesome soulful hook allow Dubee to perform to his full potential. The slow and woozy "Unda da Trees" precedes the upbeat and funky "Off da Heezy," full of Bay Area slang and the sparse "Reek Daddy." I also love "Pit Bull Vicious," which has an awesome live trombone performance on it. The chorus is awesome, and musically this is another of the best tracks, so unique. Another posse cut, "Dubee, Mall & Sleep" and "Hair Shop Hoes" close out the album.

Fans of West Coast and especially Bay Area hip hop music should not hesitate to give "Dubee aka Sugawolf" a listen. The production on this album is simply excellent, completely unique and unlike anything you have ever heard on a west coast record. It's so musical and always catchy, every song is laced with the dopest of beats. Fans new to the genre or unfamiliar with YBB should scoop this album up, I also strongly suggest Ray Luv's "Forever Hustlin'" and Young Lay's "Black 'n Dangerous." I admit I took much too long to get into YBB, and this music is really much greater than I ever would have believed. Khayree is a genius and "Dubee aka Sugawolf" is a great listen.

5 out of 5 stars Sugawolf Pimp Gon Pimp.......2006-05-02

This album is so under rated. Khayree and Dubee put it down on this album. I swear anything that Khayree puts his hands on will trun gold. Dubee comes tight with his own original style on his first album. You simply cant go wrong with this cd, or anything from young black brotha records. Make sure to check out Mac Dre(RIP), mac mall, young lay, and ray luv's albums on the ybb label. they are clasic!!!

    5 out of 5 stars Slammin.......2006-01-25

Sugawolf pimp comes tight on his first one. Khayree's unique beats bang one after another, and Dubee's lyrical delivery is nothin short but spectacular. Crestside has major talent, and homeboy is testament to it!

    5 out of 5 stars classic.......2005-04-21

The first time I heard this I knew it was one that I would have to keep safe and not f##k up quickly. The production is classic and my favourite beats of khayree. It was needed for your ride if you wanted to bump something. I used to love ''thats what we do'' and ''unda da trees'', but mostly the whole album was heating up the amp and shaking my brain. I like this album a lot and rate it high, and its definately one bay area classic aswell as many others there are out there. If you like khayree, or even heavy beats and cool flows, make sure you buy this and dont let it slide. Later!

All ya'll who think C.S. is weak or whatever you say,are dead wrong, Lil C.S. is one of the realest rappers out there, he tells it how he is, he doesn't bang on wax. I can't wait for his new CD to hit the shelves.

5 out of 5 stars This album is tight.......2002-05-19

Man i'm from Denver/Aurora and i picked this cd up at Angelo's cd's and more. The guy that worked there said that this was the hardest album out so i took a chance on it. And he was right. This album is hard! Lil CS is now one of my favorite rappers in the game. I haven't heard an album this good in at least about 4 years. it's put together very well. Not a lot of skits all over the place. Just bangin' music. He's coming out of Diego and he's got heat!! I let all my friends listen to it and they were amazed with this album. now everybody at my school is bumpin' to Lil C.S. I've had it for 2 months and still play it everyday. Hardest album out to me!

5 out of 5 stars Tightest CD of 2001.......2002-05-19

... Dollars & Sins is tightest album to come out in 2001. Songs like Lil CS street history lesson, Niggaz Theme Music, The Turf, Killa Spits, Federal Niggaz, Sic Wit' This, Thug Tears....every song on here is bangin'. Lil CS has Daygo on lock. You can drive on any block without hearing Dollars & Sins bumpin' out of some ride. Dollars & Sins was voted the top 40 best of albums of 2001 in the Murder Dog magazine, and in his interview they gave him much props. This is the hottest album to come out of San Diego EVER! Lyrically and Delivery wise he's one of the best in the game...

    1 out of 5 stars THE WORST.......2002-04-19

This is the WORST album of the rap industry besised Skanless Joe of TRI 5. If they had a category for 0 stars, then that would have been the ranking for this one, I mean Lil CS and his boys sound like they rushed every single word on this LP. This Album is basically known as a "RUSH JOB" and they really sound off beat. The girl that raps about puttin lil cs name on her ankle sounds like the same girl who got dissed by lil cs in the song before it. Every one that I had listen to this thought this Lil Cs guy was a ...! The ghetto girls on here cannot rap AT ALL and the rest just [are bad]... I mean come on! G.E.D (...)? Triple H (hot hectic Head)? and P.I.M.P (put it in my pocket)? what kind of garbage is that? I mean did this guy just sit at home and think of stuff off the top of his head and say "Oh Yeah, that sounds cool!","everyone would use this one, I'm about to put Diego on the Map with this... Well Lil CS, I got one for Ya. G.A.Y! I personally think that every rapper on this album were in a hurry to go to pee or something because they just talked to fast. The Bottom line...... Bad represintation for San Diego!

Dubees ability to comically create as in "Throw Ya Hand Up" and educate the P.H.ers how game can be tightly laced.
