This album is a blessing.......2007-07-22
I truly love this album. It is a blessing to hear old songs performed in new ways and the original songs sound great too. The ministry Selah has had is anointed.
Uplifting and Inspiring.......2007-07-05
Selah's final album with vocalist Nicol Sponberg is both inspiring and uplifting. I've listened to it so much, my family knows all the words. I've also bought several copies for friends. The voices of the brother sister team blend so beautifully, it is a shame that Nicol will be moving on. The new singer does not have the same soulful style; so enjoy this album and hope Nicol will be back for an encore.
God used this CD in my life!.......2007-01-27
I went through a tough time with health, and I was pretty discouraged. As I prayed each morning, I found myself turning on this CD and learning all the words to each song. Day after day for months, I listened to it and sang along. The lyrics speak of reverence for God, trust in Him, hope, joy, salvation. God used this CD to minister to me during this time, and I am going to give it to others. Thanks, Selah, for using your fabulous singing gifts for God's glory!
Awesome Album.......2007-01-16
Everything Selah does is great. Absolutely love this album. Can't play it enough!!
Awesome CD!!.......2007-01-12
I had no other Selah music when I purchased this "Hiding Place" CD, and I was very impressed when I first listened to it. I own many Christian music CDs and I would rate this CD in the top 2 or 3 of all the CDs I own. The vocals are beautiful and the accompanying music is also beautiful. The CD contains some neat original music and fantastic arrangements of old favorites like "I Need Thee Every Hour". "You Raise Me Up" and "You Are My Hiding Place" are wonderful. I would recommend this CD to anyone who is even remotely interested in Christian music!

Wonderful !!!!.......2007-07-07
This was my first introduction to Selah, and I am so-o-o happy I purchased this CD! Very poignant lyrics and beautiful music. My favorites are Gentle Healer and Glory, but really the whole CD is just wonderful. You won't be disappointed.
Excellent - contemporary twist to old favorites - making them new all over again!.......2007-06-22
I will probably always be one to recommend a Selah album, because I grew up in a church visited yearly by Nicol and Todd's parents, Congo missionaries Jim and Nancy Smith and used to hear the whole family sing way back when (in fact, I think my parents have an old record of hymns the family put out years ago!). That being said, this album is amazing! I've been listening to it over and over the last couple of weeks, hearing new layers every time. I love beautifully written lyrics - the mix of these classics with the voices of the Selah members and their duet partners is matchless.
At first listen, "Bless the Broken Road" stood out as my favorite, but then I listened more closely to "All My Tears," which I'd surprisingly never heard before. Now it stands out as my favorite on the album, esp. with Kim Hill's folksy sound, and one of my favorite songs ever.
Completely a stand-out album - so much depth and breadth.
Oh - and for those that didn't know, Nicol stepped out to raise her family and support her husband at Moody Bible Institute's grad school. She's worked some on solo stuff, too.
Christain Music.......2007-05-16
This is a from the heart CD. The song Bless the Broken Road would be applicable to everyone who has traveled a rocky road to find the peace and joy a Christian experiences. Another song, profound, outright addresses death and burial. Sounds gruesome, but it is awesome. No rock bands here, just beautifully orchestrated music that is uplifting and encouraging.
Love Selah~.......2007-05-09
Loved most of the CD. Not their best in my opinion, but worth having.
There are some great songs here.
Keeps getting better.......2007-04-11
This "album" is their best yet. Selah fans won't be disappointed.

Beautiful music.......2007-05-20
I spent quite a bit of money before finding a Christian CD that I really liked. This one is exactly what I was looking for. Every song is as beautiful as the one before it, and they all give you a wonderful feeling inside.
Good CD.......2007-04-18
I really like this CD. It has some of the fun classic hymns on it.
I would recommend this cd to anyone. My only complaint is that some of the songs are a little faster and jazzier than you sing in church.
Outstanding.......2007-01-11
A wonderful collection of hymns performed by an outstanding group of musicians! Every time I listen to this CD I am blessed all over again. A "must have" in your collection.
A Classic.......2006-09-13
I've owned this cd for over a year now and this is my absolute favorite Christian cd to listen to. I'm always searching for a fresh sound and quality music, and this one did it for me. The whole cd is awesome. Both the arrangements and vocals are excellent. This cd is nice to worship to by singing along to it or it is just as nice to layback and listen to and meditate about God. Some of my favorites are "Be Though My Vision", "Amazing Grace", "It is Well with My Soul", "By and By", "Power in the Blood" and "Just a CLoser Walk with Thee". If you are looking for something old, yet a little fresh, give this one a try. In my opinion, every song was sung, arranged, and produced with perfection.
The best cd I'v e bought in a long time.......2006-03-19
Because of mp3s readily being available, I have found I no longer buy the whole cd but just my favorites. After listening to the previews, I bought the whole cd and am so glad I did A cross between updated classic hymns and soulful sound, Selah has outdone themselves on this one. Some songs I have to play again from the emotion they stir. An outstanding compilation with a tremendous sound of harmony and haunting depth of heart.

Selah's Sturdy and Scenic "Road".......2006-08-28
Prime Cuts: Bless the Broken Road (with Melodie Crittenden), I Will Sing of My Redeemer (with Barlowgirl), Gentle Healer (with Amy Perry)
Lead singers who define their group's personas place the entire ensemble in a lucrative position when they decide to depart. This was the predicament Selah faced when Nicol Sponberg had had decided to leave the trio. However, that is only half the group's vexation: country artist Melodie Crittenden who was supposed to be Sponberg's successor left late last year. In a move, albeit a wise one, to divert the attention away from the group's nonplused identity this duets CD was birth. With a heightened spotlight on the duet partners including luminaries such as Jason and Adam of the Crabb Family, Barlowgirl, Nicole Nordeman, Christy Nockels of Watermark, Kim Hill, Plumb among others, this allows Selah to buy time in order to re-construct their identity. This time instead of putting all of one's eggs in a basket, the group members as well as new member Amy Perry share around the microphone.
Musically, "Bless the Broken Road" is still consummate Selah. Their signature palette of hymn-like ballads with a contemporary edge still abound. Unlike many of their peers, these songs are spiritually meaty entrenched with deep theologically truth without resigning to those repetitive nondescript love songs to Jesus. Most spiritually penetrating is "Gentle Healer." The breathtakingly simple melody of this Michael Card ballad basks a carefully nuanced narrative that attests even handedly to the humanity and divinity of Christ. Not a group known to obviate the tough issues, Julie Miller's "All My Tears" (also covered by Jars of Clay) deal unapologetically with the issue of death. Kim Hill's Appalachian-sounding vocals add an added haunting element to this Americana-tingled ballad. Plumb, who has been known for her electronic-rock mores, offers her vocals and her pen to a surprising low-keyed Christmasy ballad "Mary Sweet Mary." While Barlowgirl add their reverential harmonies to the hymn-like newly composed "I Will Sing of My Redeemer." Also destined to be a Selah classic is the David Grow composed ballad "Be Thou Near to Me," a soft prayer that calls to mind the hymn "Pass Me Not O Gentle Savior" is a track the trio first recorded with Jim Brickman a year or so ago for his "Grace" CD.
When addressing the issue of human relationships "Bless the Broken Road" (a track first recorded by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and turned into a monster hit by Rascal Flatts) is a breadth of fresh air. While many today rushed into relationships that are not God-ordained and mature, "Bless the Broken Road" tells about the advantage of waiting for the right one. Made even more poignant is Melodie Crittenden's first hand experience of having to live out this song. On this ballad heavy album, "Follow Jesus (Landa Yesu)" with its upbeat Congo-inspired beat is quite welcoming. Inspired by the missionary work in Africa, augmented with some chants in African, "Follow Jesus" is delightful and Nicole C. Mullen sounds equally at home with her vivacious vocal support. However, not everything works: "Ain't No Grave," a Russ Taff classic has been reprised here. Jason and Adam of the Crabb Family together with Todd Smith just do not have the soul to undertake this bluesy Gospel tune. They do not have the grit and gravitas to let this tune soar. Christy Nockels of Watermark though is in fine vocal form, but her duet here "Faithful One" which clocks over 5 minutes is plain dull.
Nevertheless, as far as duet albums go, "Bless the Broken Road" paves a path that is sturdy and made sonically scenic via the duet partners. As with all Selah's albums, their tight harmonies lacing their signature hymn-like theologically informed ballads are in galore here. Most encouraging is that Todd Smith who takes up the lion share of the lead vocals sound more confident and his ability to engage with the various duet partners is accommodating. Here's looking forward to the reformed Selah on an outing of their own.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent.......2005-06-14
An Excellent CD of live worship that captures the real elements of praise. I have to say that this CD is superb...different to the usual style of hillsong's music, and a little closer to UNITED live (but still with it's own feel). The vocals are excellent and the production is very well done giving the guitars and drums a rich sound.
One thing i have to point out is Natasha Bedingfield's vocals rip through the other backing singers (this is a good thing) as it adds to the sound of harmonies. all in all an excellent CD well worth the buy!
Hillsong London brings a fresh new sound!.......2004-08-19
I actually got this cd today, wasn't expecting much but was presently suprised.
There are many awesome and special points to this album. I love the songs and different stlye to the songs. The songwriters and musicians and singers at London are very gifted and blessed. Many of the songs are reminiscent of many local bands, so it is special to me. The music is also seems to be easier to play then Australia's albums, which is good for small churches I guess.
Does the Hillsong Name Proud, And Then Some.......2004-06-17
The new album from Hillsong Church London, a growing congregation of around 2000 people that was planted as a UK outreach by the Australian church, combines two musical heritages for the first time - the UK worship movement and the Hillsong Music heritage.
SHOUT GOD'S FAME, then, stands as at an interesting musical intersection. The influence of the Hillsong Australia church is evident in the focus on melody and big, powerful choruses. At the same time, much of SHOUT GOD'S FAME sounds more like a Vineyard UK project, with experimental rock elements making their way into the project (a little bit of Robbie Williams on "Gonna Be All Right") at times as well. There are a lot of similarities to the Hillsong's United live albums, but even those comparisons only go so far. The mix here, for instance, really put the guitar and percussion more in the fore and pulls the lead vocals back a little bit, which gives the album a feel that is distinctly different from a regular Hillsongs project. The team of lead vocalists also has a much more youthful sound to their voices; no one person (a la Darlene Zschech) dominates the album's lead worship duties.
The songs themselves are solid. "Shout Your Fame" opens the record and has the same big, guitar-driven energy of recent Hillsong anthems like "King of Majesty" and "Best Friend." "My God" follows and takes it all even a notch higher - the chorus is incredibly infectious with some great, soaring melodies; two songs in you can already tell that this project is going to be a winner. The afore mentioned "Gonna Be All Right" is a little simplistic on its lyric though, musically, it does have an interesting sound. "You're Here With Me" is one of the tracks that sounds like it could've been a Vineyard song, in all of the right ways, though the production is clearly born of a Hillsongs heritage. "I Will Go," a song about obedience to the will of God, has an underlying Latin groove and a big sing-a-long chorus. "In You I Stand" is a solid rock-praise anthem celebrating our assurance of the faithfulness of God.
The majority of the twelve tracks are original compositions. A cover of Delirious' "History Maker" is one exception - their interpretation is solid though it doesn't add anything overtly original to what we've already heard done with the song. A medley of Hillsong favorites, "For This Cause/Eagles Wings/Carry Me," is a nice addition and tribute to the church's heritage; the "Eagles Wings" section is particularly sweet to hear. Finally, "King of Majesty," a cover of a United favorite, closes the project, though a reprise of "Shout Your Fame" is the true closing piece.
The beauty of SHOUT GOD'S FAME is that most fans of the Australian Hillsongs albums will also like what they hear here, but it is modern and youthful enough that even those who are not Hillsongs fans can definitely find something to embrace here. But it really does this talented group of musicians and worship leaders a disservice to focus too much on the Australian roots of the church - SHOUT GOD'S FAME proves that the church in London has more than enough talent and credibility to be accepted and heard all on their own. It's not only an excellent debut album, but one of the best worship albums of the year. FIVE STARS.

Anointed worship leader.......2007-03-06
Tim Hughes came to many Christians' attention when Here I Am to Worship became the most-sung worship song in 2002 and 2003. That entire debut album speaks volumes of how Tim Hughes is more than a one-song wonder. This follow-up album, When Silence Falls, puts Tim Hughes at the top of a growing heap of worship leaders.
The album begins with "Beautiful One", a mid-tempo praise song that many churches have put into their repertoire of songs. Among my favourite songs is the next one, "You". This one just reminds us of how amazing God is, and how we cannot compare anything or anyone to Him! Then comes "Consuming Fire" which meant very little to me until one sleepless night when I realized that my passion for Jesus' name had been quenched in recent months. This album continues with a great number of wonderful, introspective songs that lift up the name of Jesus, while also challenging listeners to examine their relationships with God. Other highlights on this album include "When the Tears Fall" and "Beauty of Your Peace".
Unlike many worship leaders, Tim Hughes does not seem to write his material to be sung in church, or to be big hits. Rather, he writes from his heart, expressing the entire range of emotions beyond his God. I love both his lyrics and the accompanying guitar work. This project goes highly recommended! Praise the Lord for music like Tim Hughes' When Silence Falls!
Such a Powerful Album.......2005-06-08
Since seeing him lead worship at Soul Survivor i have been a Tim Hughes fan. Not only are his dimples adorable, but his songs are so inspiring. I bought this album the thrid day of Soul Survivor last year after hearing only two of Tim's new songs and i definitely wasn't the only one.
"Whole World In His Hands" is the stand out track for me, simply because of the powerful "i fear no evil, for you are with me" section, but the beautiful "When the Tears Fall" touches me deeply everytime i hear it because it is so strong, powerful and honest it describes a time and feeling that every Christian feels during their relationship with God. Tim was very brave to put this song on the album and it works well, adding a new depth to the collection of songs.
Other songs, such as "Beautiful One" and "Consuming Fire" have already become church classics, and although none of them rival "Here I am To Worship", the song Hughes will allways be knwon for, they are very enjoyable songs that can touch everyone.
This album is very easy to listen to but also challenging in its depth and honesty.
Essential.......2005-01-31
'When Silence Falls' is the third album from Tim Hughes of Soul Survivor, Watford. Here is a album of great songs, musical innovation and lyrical depth. My sister spotted the CD, opened the inlay and said "Awwwww look at his dimples!". So, here we have an album of great songs, musical innovation, lyrical depth and sweet dimples. Thanks, Tim.
Proceedings commence with the already classic 'Beautiful One'- guitar arpegios and a military drum motif explode into a nicely crunchy intro. The verses feature some great bass playing and piano flourishes, giving way to the anthemic chorus. The coda, 'My soul, my soul must sing' gets some great half-time treatment and classy backing vocals. You heard it first on Soul Survivor Live 2002, here's the definitive version of a modern classic.
'You' begins with a mini homage to Delirious?, 'Bigger than the air I breathe...'. This song is musically a new direction for a writer like Hughes. Its relentless rhythm and half acoustic feel lend it the feel of a song like Doves 'Pounding' or the aforementioned Delirious?' 'With You'. It ends with a reference to Matt Redman's 'Take the World but give me Jesus', Tim crying out, 'Take the world but give me you'.
Next is 'Consuming Fire', again already recorded live. Fantastic drum sounds here, thanks to producer Nathan Nockels, clean guitars and subtle piano all create a real charm and gentle pace before the live-inspired improvisation begins, 'Stir it up in our hearts, Lord, a passion for Your Name'.
'Giver of Life' is set to become a classic. Mark my words. A piano-led groove, with disco style bass playing, this songs is contagiously upbeat, 'You are good and mercies last a lifetime'. Tim Hughes has a way with a memorable melody, not only this, but this song is bathed in scripture references- two essential elements for a good, useable congregational song. The icing on the cake, musically, is the cool pitchshfting effect on the backing vocals. This is the kind of sound that Coldplay would love to have, but somehow lack the depth sometimes.
Number 5 is 'Whole World in His Hands'. Again, plenty of biblical reference as well as to the classic kids song! More inventive bass playing, a particularly impassioned vocal and a deceptively downbeat tone until a moment of pure genius where everything stops and then feedback crecendos until a choir joins in singing, and Tim improvises over them 'The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night- He's got the whole world in His hands, He will watch over your coming and your going... strength for today, bright hope for tomorrow'. A nod there to the hymn 'Great is Thy Faitfulness', which makes you mentally follow, 'He has the whole word in His hands, yet He is faithul to me'. Like I say, genius.
'The Beauty of Your Peace' is the piano ballad, but it's not a token. 'Take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confess the beauty of Your peace'. Truly original lyrics that go beyond the rather contrived 'modern worship' label. Here is a lyricist at work, not just a songwriter. I should make it clear that the arrangement isn't a Celine Dion piano ballad, but something altogether more mature and wholesome. Four minutes in, the texture begins to theicken and dischordant guitars join the mix along with pedaled bass, to create what becomes a very thought-provoking song.
'Name Above all Names' is another classic on the way. A stalled drum riff and minimal guitars break forth into a disco style groove (seems a popular option!). Need I say it again, but more clever bass playing and a fantastic polyphony of voices and synth in the chorus, 'Name above all names, You are glorious. Wonderful and true, powerful are You...'. The bridge has a chord sequence reminiscent of Matt Redman's 'Thank You for the Blood'. I think of this less as being a copycat, but as a tribute- because it really works.
'When the Tears Fall' is ostensibly the title track. The lament is lost tradition of praise music, but the Psalms are full of it. Here, we pick-up on the darker side of life- 'the lone hour of my sorrow', 'when hope is lost', but the light at the end of the tunnel is our 'Saviour, Healer, Heart's Song'. A geuninely touching song that attributes all our hope and provision to the Lord.
'Nothing in this World' first appeard on the Hughes/Layzell album 'Reward'. Here, the song is reworked, not radically but still well worth having both versions. The new version is country-tinged with an offbeat shuffle, the drummer playing with brushes, and the pianst cycling an ostinato, lending the sound an acoustic Norah Jones style.
'Joy is in this Place' is one of those festival songs. There isn't any real theological meat here one sense, 'Dance, dance, everybody dance, everybody sing for joy is in this place now'. John Newton's 'Amazing Grace' is sampled here, and there are some musical gems- something that sounds a sitar plays the riff, and there is a Rolling Stones style build-up before the chorus. So perhaps not a great theological meal, but still all good and true, and a great song to dance to! No complaints!
'Holy, Holy' is originally by Phatfish's Nathan Fellingham. A criminally underused song, perhaps due to the veritbale UN butter mountain of songs that use 'Holy, Holy, Holy' in them somewhere, but nonetheless a song that should be more highly regarded. Tim churns out a neat version here. The chorus soars, the bass playing is (surprisingly) noticable, the choir belts out 'Lift us his name with the sound of singing', and you can't help but join them. The song ends with guitars sounding like U2's last album.... I like it.
The album finishes with a reprise of 'Beautiful One' in a more reflective mood, which is a fitting ending. More ad-lib vocals and guitar noodling and a very live feel seem to reflect where this album was born: in the crowds of Soul Survivor festival. All in all, a CD rich in intertextual reference (whether to Mr Redman, the hymnwriters, or the bible itself) which I feel makes it stronger rather than weaker. Artistically, musically, and in production terms, this is a step-up from 'Here I am to Worship' which perhaps will make it less suited or accepted by less adventurous church bands. However, for those that dare, and for those who have this CD in their collection, there will be rewards aplenty and a valuable resource for your own personal worship- whether that in the moments when you feel like it, or the times when silence falls and you tell yourself 'bless the Lord, O my Soul'.
amazing.......2004-11-28
this cd is unbelevable - i just love it! any young christians out there like me - this cd is the one for you. instrumentally and lyricly it is amazing! best songs are 'whole world in his hands', 'consuming fire', 'beautiful one', 'holy holy',and 'nothing in this world'. tim hughes is a genius.
Super!.......2004-11-07
This album is great, it realy stands out above a lot of modern worship music. Lyrically the album is great and realy glorifys God.
From listening a few times i would say Tims infuences are mainly Muse, Jeff Buckley, Marvin Gaye (i think), Fran Lewis and maybe even Jim Banks.
I would reccomend this cd to fans of Matt Redman, DottieEsther, B.G.W.I. and Graham Kendrick.

Great Album.......2005-11-06
I got my first taste of Jason Morant at Aquire the Fire in Dallas. In his music you can truely feel his heart. He perofrmed some of the songs from the album and I purchased the CD rigth away. I Am Yours is a great song expressing Jason's devotion to God. His remake of Bless The Lord is another great track. This is a CD you can pop in and let it play all the way through.
This is one of the best Christian albums I've ever heard.......2005-10-02
This is one of the best Christian albums I've ever heard. Unbelievable. I don't say that lightly. There is a combination of musical quality and lyrics that is outstanding.
The tunes are unique. They are not at all trite, like something you've heard before. They are very pleasing to the ear. The production of the album is meticulous. The instrumentation is good. But especially the vocals are outstanding. Jason's vocals are passionate, reflective, powerful, and diverse. He uses his vocals as a fine instrument.
The lyrics are equally excellent. They reflect a heart that loves God for the deliverance that God has done in his soul. And the concepts Jason uses are very biblical. Let me give an example:
"Now I walk alongside my Father
Without fear of what may come tomorrow
Because I know even in death I'm alive
Because You are inside of me"
In the context of the song, he spoke of God's overwhelming beauty, and also of God's mercy in calling him pure (justification by faith). Jason also spoke of how God had opened his eyes to see the daylight (new birth). Now, in the quote above, he calls God his own Father (adoption). He is not afraid of what may come, just as, for example, Jesus commanded in Matthew 6:25-34. Why is he not afraid? Because "even in death I'm alive." This is accurate, because, for example, when Jesus was about to raise Lazarus, he said in John 11:25 "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live." And why does the believer live? Because "You are inside of me." In other words, Christ lives in believers via the indwelling Holy Spirit. Remember that Paul said that "Christ in you" is "the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27).
In short, the musical quality and the great lyrics make this album a great choice in providing another avenue for your heart rise up to God in worship.
I've been listening to this album in my car for a couple of months now, and I'm waiting till I would prefer to listen to something else--it hasn't happened yet. I bought this album on a whim, not ever having heard of Jason Morant. I just listened a little bit through Amazon. If you want to sample his music more before buying, I suggest you go to Jason's Web site. Just type his name in your favorite Web browser and you'll get to it. It will give you longer snapshots of all the songs, and it will give you an idea of his musical style is something you would enjoy.
Your ears/heart /mind and soul will thank you!.......2005-09-14
This is by far one of the best worship albums I've ever heard. (up there with Hungry, Facedown and United's look to You) Every song is incredible, from the great music to the passionate and powerful lyrics, the whole composition and production on every track is superb. Jason is very talented, I would love to see him live. The great thing about this album is I take it to work, crank it up and I'm not ashamed of listening to it or telling people about it. (pretty good witnessing tool) It is not some cookie cutter, cheesey over polished "worship album". Yuck!, Anywho, My favorite tracks are um basically every single one. But if I had to pick just 3 they would be:
#6 Bless the Lord
#8 Fashion
#12 I delight *including the secret song
I would actually rate it 8 out of 5 stars! Oh Yea! If that were possible!
So do your ears/heart/mind/stereo/body/soul/neighbors/family and spirit a huge favor and buy this album!!!
