Although the video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City takes place in the 1980s, its musical accompaniment leaps light years beyond the simplistic plink-plonking found on that decade's primitive gaming systems. GTA's whopping seven-CD soundtrack set (also available as individual volumes) culls the best of the decade of decadence's musical offerings. V-Rock, and Wave 103 spotlight the '80s musical mainstays, hairsprayed heavy metal and bursts of fizzy New Wave electro-pop, while saccharine love songs and mellow light rock populate the next two discs: Emotion 98.3 and Flash FM, respectively.
Volume 5, the appropriately titled Wildstyle Pirate, celebrates the origins of hip-hop and DJ culture; Fever 105 focuses on sizzling soul; and Radio Espantoso rounds out the set with upbeat Cuban jazz hybrids. With such differing styles, not every disc will appeal to every listener. And not every CD is mixed well--Fever 105 can be monotonous, and Emotion 98.3's tunes are overplayed. However, the best part about GTA is its often surprising musical selections: Tears for Fears' morose "Pale Shelter," the long mix of Grandmaster Flash's "The Message," and Mary Jane Girls' slinky "All Night Long." Throwing in lesser-known musical gems among the hits adds spice and unexpected turns, which redeem GTA's shortcomings and make this set a treat for everyone, not just fans of the game. --Annie Zaleski
Customer Reviews:
Not complete...but still great!.......2007-05-22
First of all, this is a great soundtrack to purchase for anyone who enjoys just driving around Vice City and listening to the radio. This is the reason why I bought it. However, there were a few disappointments. When I purchased the Grand Theft Auto Vice City Soundtrack Box Set, I expected every song from every music station to be included. Although most of the songs are included, a few were not. I feel that this is made up for, though, by the inclusion of DJ banter and various commercials from the game.
One thing that I feel would have improved this soundtrack set would be to include the K-Chat and VCPR stations. These were both favorites of mine (along with Wave 103).
Overall, I have to say that the GTA Vice City Soundtrack Box Set is a great buy if you enjoy the multiple radio stations, or if you simply want to add to your Grand Theft Auto collection! I was certainly satisfied.
Wow-wah Wee-wah!.......2007-03-21
Awesome stuff. All the kooky music of the 80's. All of the ads and DJs from the game and a pretty neat Vice City box to boot.
Don't waste time with the greatest hits, buy the box set and make your own greatest hits tapes!
Great Music Collections, hours of music for not much money.......2007-02-14
I love my box set. It has an amazing collection of just about every type of music from the 80s, pop, funk, new wave and heavy metal. It's a great 80s box set just as it is, not to mention it also includes a really great CD with alot of classic Cuban music on it, with essential stuff by Beny More and Tito Puente. A great sampler, really! Perfect for an 80s party or cocktail party or even a drive to the beach with the top down and the windows open and "the Outfield" or "Ozzy" blaring out the stereo. And of course, if your a Grand Theft Auto fanatic this is a must have just for that.
Best 80's Mix Made!.......2006-08-20
This has to be the best ever mix of music from the 1980's. It includes some big hits plus a lot of excellent B side tunes as well. My favorite has to be "Gold" by Spandau Ballet. The DJ banter between some songs adds a somewhat nostalgic feel to the whole collection.
Some tracks missing, but still a good value........2006-01-24
I was happy with the purchase of this box set, however, there are some songs missing from this collection... ones I heard in the game, but are missing from this set. Even still, it is quite good and it is nice to have many of my favorite 80's tunes all on one CD. I really only listen to 4 out of the 7 CD'S in the box set, but it was still worth the money for me.

Album Description
GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS, OFFICIAL SOUNDTRACK BOX SET:
This 8 CD Set is the indispensable companion to GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS. The 8 CD's are loaded with the music featured inside the game.
About the Game: Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas, a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster. On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the next installment in the blockbuster franchise that has redefined interactive entertainment.

Brought this game for a friend. He loves it. States the graphics are great. Price was great compared to store prices. Game arrived undamaged.
WTF!?!.......2005-09-26
ok ok ok you do NOT make a GTA CD box with country music in it i mean come on. Mabye when your playing the game but i dont think its right to have one hole frickin' CD dedicated to country music in a GTA box. Also Radio Los Santos has to share a CD with Playback. Obviously the only reason your gana buy this is because of the great rap and mabye for the old school dance music you might share with your parents... NOT LOL!!!
Finally they also cut out some of the best songs from the game
which include "187" Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre, "The Ghetto" (my favorite song) Too Short and many more. Even though they did have did have Slick Rick, Kid Frost and 2pac. There just wasnt enough rap in this box. If they took out the country and had Radio Los Santos have its own CD this would be perfct!
Incomplete........2005-09-06
That about says it all. Now I respect the quality products from Rockstar, although this isn't one of them. Why again must some of the best songs from the radio station be missed out again? I remember the days of Vice City, singing along to the tracks which were unavailable on the soundtrack when it was released separately. Thankfully not many were missed out and I was available to obtain them another way legally. However a huge amount are missed this time. I don't know if it's down to record companies or the artists not letting their songs be placed on or some random with a distaste for the public but one thing's for sure it certainly is inconvenient. Ah well, there's always next time.
All Rights Reserved.......2005-08-03
Well well well. This is the uber game with the uber sound track right? In some respects it is, 8 discs, better cover art and more songs for almost the same price. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, was a smash success for many reasons, one of them in my opinion was the inclusion of the music. I guess I'm a closet 80's music person since I didn't know much about it, but after that game I was out in the store checking out Flock of Seagulls albums. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a great game but I guess I'm not a fan of the 90's as I thought I was, especially music. The discs are set up like music cds, I miss the D.J. interface that Vice City had for each disc, made it personal in a way and the inclusion/exclusion of certain songs can be maddening. I mean why have "Welcome 2 the Jungle" on the commercials but not the ultimate soundtrack? Sure licensing issues aside, I enjoy the pack but again I guess I found out I'm not a 90's type music guy. The only big disappointment on the disc was K-Rose, the country disc. 99% of the songs were not even close to that decade. . . Not to say I want *gulp* Acky Breaky Heart, but hey, it's the time not the quality of music. Good price for the amount of music but not the same for fans of the Vice City ultimate pack.
good collection, but WHY BUY IT?.......2005-07-21
I can see why you might buy this if you don't own the game and just like the songs on the mix, but if you own the PC version of the game you can just listen to the tracks in the car or extract them to Ogg Vorbis and expand them onto CD if you want to.
So I can't really see why if you own the PC game you'd still buy this.
Having said that, I like the selection, and like the Vice City box set (which you can extract to MP3 from the PC game) it has slightly different DJ chatter, which is always funny.
Just try to behave yourself when you put it in your car stereo. Remember, you're NOT playing the game then. It's real life.

Big, silly, melodic fun.......2005-05-28
What an unexpectedly cool find. _Blame Everyone_ reminds me of nothing so much as Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine at their creative peak, updated for the 21st century with even louder guitars. The one-two-three sonic punch that opens this album -- two-thirds of which was featured on multiple movie soundtracks, and justifiably so -- is hard to beat for making that new set of speakers earn their keep, or for blasting with the top down on a summer day. Things fall off surprisingly little after that, and the anthemic "As Good As It Gets" in particular pretty much lives up to its name.
I highly recommend taking a chance on this one (and not even all that much of a chance, given how ridiculously inexpensive the used copies available here tend to be at this point).
"No brakes but you know we got a radio / You gotta move when we're rockin' on your stereo"? They really do have a point there.
Chris McCormack back with a vengeance.......2001-02-11
so this is chris McCormacks new band huh. nice to see he's still producing wicked tune after wicked tune, u can hear a lot of three colours red on this cd which shows he must have been one of the main influences in songwriting in 3 colours red. this is a sweet cd, kinda change of the new metal with a dj theme by havin punk with a dj. no doubt will get slagged off for it but i think its cool
One of the better c.ds.......2000-12-17
This c.d is well...I like it cus it sounds like eve 6 and most of the other stuff i listen to. If you like lyrics that you can relate to and that punkish but not narrow minded sound this c.d is definatly worth buying! Its one of the better c.ds I've heard lately.

Lame vocals and lyrics, OK music.......2003-02-05
"Are You Afraid" is an anthology of sorts for the old LA hardcore band Circle One, known for their violent fans and violent music. Fast paced, typical SoCal HC found here, with some of the most obnoxious vocals ever in punk on the "Patterns of Force" tracks. I mean, yeah, the vocals are unique ... but they still ....
Aside from the vocals, the lyrics are ... well, a little objectionable at times. As Circle One's career ran on, lead singer John became increasingly religious, to the point of fanaticism. Several songs on "Patterns of Force" deal with God, "the light," and other Christian nonsense which, to me, has no place in punk/hardcore. And it gets worse. Several songs are blatant in their portrayal of homosexuals as evil deviants sent by Satan to corrupt the world. Uh, OK. I can deal with singing about God TO A POINT, but when the preaching turns to hate, it's gotta stop.
However, the early Circle One demo songs on the CD are good, pretty much devoid of the warbling vocals and Godspeak. They're also faster and less structured (yeah, I'm a sucker for bad thrash, so sue me).
Packaging, like all Grand Theft Audio releases, is good, with plenty of info about the band, pictures, lyrics, etc., and also the typical bad computer generated cover artwork of GTA.
So, I don't think this CD is worth buying. Maybe have a friend tape you the demo songs, but other than that... pass.
THEY DON'T MUSIC LIKE THEY USED TO........2001-07-09
EVERY TRACK ON THIS CD IS RATHER HARDCORE STYLE. THIS IS A CLOSE TO ANTHOLOGY WORKS DONE BY JOHN MACIAS AND CIRCLE ONE.ALL.I NOTE THIS WILL NOT APPEAL TO THE YOUNG "MTV punks OF TODAY".

Pure aggression NYHC style.......2005-07-31
IF you Love Agnostic Front in the early years, this is a must have. To me the sound quality is the way hardcore should be. It loud, raw, and agressive. To me, that is Hardcore. If you like clean sounding, remastered garbage, than this is not for you, but if you like the real Hardcore, get this one.
After the first series, its like being at a show.......2005-05-20
62 songs on a standard CD... Thats AF for ya. Quick and raw. They were pioneers in hardcore and this shows them as they were. The recording isn't as rough as that other reviewer says. Maybe he's used to sitting on a leather couch using bose sound canceling headphones instad of most punk's messed up cd player.
The band released this as is because this is how they were... RAW and in your face. They represented what hardcore was about- rejecting the mainstream culture and having fun with the DIY lifestyle. They played fast and got everyone into it at their shows. If you saw them back in the day, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Raw Unleashed.......2004-03-08
the last guy didn't know what he was talking about. Don't listen to him. If you like raw, primative, old-school NY hardcore punk from way back in the day, then this is for you. When I say NY hardcore, I'm not talking about 90's era, metal-hardcore crossover music... I'm talking about early 80's, unpolished, NY street punk hardcore. If you favor Agnostic Front's One Voice album (from their more metal oriented era), then maybe this CD might not be for you. But if you liked their United Blood ep (at the end of the Last Warning live CD), or the Victim In Pain ep, then chances are, you might dig this one.
I can't believe it!!.......2002-04-03
Track 1-16: Extended United Blood recording
Track 17-33: Pre United Blood Recording
Track 34-50: 1984 rehearsal Don Fury's Studio
Track 52-60: United blood 7" Two Track Mixdown
Track 61-62: Message from the Underground
I can't believe how awful this CD is. This could of been a good CD. However, the recording quality is much worse than anything I have ever heard before. I know some people like bad recording quality. However, I think that even those people would not like this. It's that bad! Not only everything is muffled but, it is recorded really quietly. However, when you turn it up like all the way to hear it, it gets even more muffled. A LOT more. I have heard a little bit off of "Cause for Alarm" and that had bad recording. But, I still liked it and it was nothing compared to this. The recording on "Cause for Alarm" only drops it one potential star, this drops it 3!!! This I definitely the worst purchase I have made in years. The only good thing that came out of this CD is the little booklet that comes with it. It has AF interviews and other AF [stuff]. Peace
