Doin' It Her Way.......2004-05-08
What a great album this is and what such an underrated one it is. This woman can sing. There are some artists who just have good production on an album to make it sell but this one has that as well as a good voice which I can only describe as strong and smooth. For some reason her voice always reminds me of honey. I'd recommend this album to anyone that's after something to relax to aswell as for those romantic evenings. It's a more than decent album to listen to.

This was a very nice cd. I purchased it on cassette in 1997 & played it until the tape wore thin. This is truly a collectible.
All this woman needs is a concrete producer & promoter!
One Love
A Good, Not Great Debut........2002-06-23
Her remake of Gloria Gaynor's disco hit, into a soul gem is a stroke of genius and one of many highlights here. Tight production, great sound quality and a fair share of variety make this a good CD. "Turned Away", "All Night, All Day" and "90 in The Red" are my favorite cuts and they all sparkle with a mid to late 90's commercial soul sheen, but there is also a bit too much filler to make this a true soul classic. The title track makes this worth owning, THIS is what a remake should really be!

Being honest, I should say that I'm not really feeling a lot of female rnb/hip-hop, they just don't do it for me (apart from Missy) they chat/whine about money, who can do who better, but this was amazing.
I remember first hearing it at my friends house in 1996, and I bought it straight after. To this day, it's one of the best albums I own as well as one of the best rnb albums I own. I have a lot of respect for her and her music. Simply put, it's a wonderful piece of work.
It's real laid back, moody, jazzy - true fans of the genre will not be disappointed. She even stays clear of the commercial formulae by having tracks up to 6/7 mins long, and if you're wandering whether or not she can hold a track that long...she can.
I can't even pick any top tracks, because once it's on, it plays all the way through.
I'm honoured to have it.

If you know anything about go go then you know that rare is the best. Get it!
The flavor of DC's streets .......2005-01-27
Those of you living in the DC and Baltimore areas are probably already familiar with the Go-Go genius that is Rare Essence. Go-Go is a percussion-driven musical form unique to this area of the country and pioneered by the likes of Chuck Brown. Rare Essence keeps the old school flavor of Go-Go alive using horns and heavy beats, and infuses it with a healthy dose of R&B, Hip-Hop, rock, funk and dance music. The blend comes of perfectly. In fact, those of you who have seen Rare Essence live know that their covers of songs by Jay Z and Sade often surpass the original artist recordings. You would be hard pressed to find a musical genre (or a band) that combines so many musical themes, and pulls them off so well.
'Doin' It Old School Style' is a slice of infectious funk-pop-hop-rock that will keep you on your feet.
DC's best-kept secret is Rare Essence. Now, HOW IS YOUR FUNK?

I own the Hollywood Bowl Gershwin CD and I love it. I was surprised by it. Play the samples if you can but the singing and sound are clear and crisp and you can understand every word.

An underexposed but very talented artist who deserved better........2006-12-06
Mike James Kirkland is one of R&B's great unknowns. This 1973 release includes the gorgeous ballads "You Put It On My Mind" and the title track as well as an interesting remake of Carol King's "It's Too Late". Kirkland's vocal style and delivery bear strong resemblances to Martvin Gaye's but he was a fine artist in his own right. Had he been better promoted he just may have become an R&B superstar.

Ragbull Records presents the second release in the already acclaimed `Doin' It After Dark' compilation series. Ragbull was formed in 2002 by ex Nuphonic man Jools Butterfield and Groove Armada's Andy Cato and Tom Findlay.
Ragbull has exclusively signed Groove Armada to compile and mix and they deliver one of their finest mixes to date. The album has feature tracks from DIY, Morgan Geist, Chicken Lips, Full Intention & Bugz in the Attic as well as live vocals and percussion from Groove Armada's Patrick Dawes and MC Madd.

I actually was lucky enough to get a ticket to the Homelands 2004 festival in Manchester,London. Just imagine a masssive arena that is completley packed with people and these guys tearing it up non stop! I danced so crazy I started all the way from the back of the arena to the front and got with in 20 feet of the guys from Groove Armada.I think they saw me because I was going nuts!It was definitly one of the best days of my life and I want to go back as soon as I get the chance! This cd holds one of the true sounds dance music that people get down to in Europe. Buy it, play it, and just let it run until its done!!
Cuttin' up all rugs in the vicinity..........2005-12-06
is what you'll be doing sooner than later. This is one fine disc. You get a well crafted mix of wonderfully eclectic and funky house beats laden with some truly nasty funk elements. You'll be challenged if you're a seasoned groover. I can't overstate how much swing this disc has. If you are fortunate to own some of the Domé Ibiza series discs and love that vibe, you'll enjoy this just as much.
