For their hard-core under-18 fans, of course, the Backstreet Boys are all that, and a bag of chips and free soda to boot. Millennium, the follow-up to the quintet's umpteen-million-selling debut, offers more reasons why so many of the rest of us have found a place for them in our hearts. The Boys' ultrapackaged look and up-to-date production underscore the quality of their best tracks; only a churl could deny that "I Want It That Way" is one fine radio-aimed declaration of love, or that "Larger Than Life" makes the most of its Daft Punk sample and double-edged acknowledgment of Backstreet followers' loyalty. And who can resist an album-closer like "The Perfect Fan," Brian Littrell's ode to his mom? --Rickey Wright

Heart-stoppingly good........2007-01-18
I remember listening to this album for the first several dozen times, I had to remind myself to breathe. It is so rare that an album comes along that you can listen to every track of, let alone an album that you love every second of.
Part of the appeal of this album is in knowing that it was and is so incredibly popular around the world. Musically the album is a definite step up from their first album (first two if you're not american). I love their early work as well, but there is no denying that the group is more unified, got better songs, and ended up with a better product on this album. They have all matured vocally, and in particular Nick has improved greatly, stepping further into the limelight.
The only thing better than listening to this cd was hearing it live in concert. Buy it!
This is one of the albums that shows that the Backstreet Boys are maturing.......2006-11-17
OK, before we go any farther here, I want to point out something that I probably should've pointed out a long time ago. I'm 18 years old and I am still a Backstreet Boys fan. I have been listening to them since the later half of 1998 and I still listen to them today in 2006. These guys are one of my favorite singing groups (the Beach Boys happen to be my other favorite). I am going to try something different in this review... I am going to rate each song, just like I have seen other reviewers doing. So, here goes.
1. Larger Than Life- this is one of my favorites on this CD. Nick and Brian are my favorite Backstreet Boys by the way.
2. I Want it That Way- Another one of my Favorites... I don't think I've seen the video for this one yet... although I have seen the Burger King version of this video, back in the day when Burger King was sponsering these guys (Or something like that), but I have never seen the actual video.
3. Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely- This one I HAVE seen the video for. It is kind of sad, but it's very good.
4. It's gotta Be You- I don't normally listen to this song much, but I like it all the same.
5. I Need You Tonight- Yay! Nick gets a solo on this song! This one is really good to listen to. When the Boys first started out, this song used to be called Heaven In Your Eyes or something like that. I don't know what the full story behind this one is, though.
6. Don't Want You Back- I love this song too. In the Burger King special, my favorite part is where AJ goes "BSB 2000 Break it down for me Rok" when they are perfoming this one in the Video.
7. Don't Wanna Lose You Now- I don't really care for this song, hardly.
8. The One- This is another good song by BSB. Again one of my Favorite Backstreet Boys gets a solo.
9. Back To Your Heart- I like this one, another one of my favorites.
10. Spanish Eyes- Great Song. This is a song where I think mostly Brian and Howie get to sing lead vocals.
11. No One Else Comes Close- I think that is what this song is called. I don't pay much attention to this one anyway so it really doesn't matter.
12. The Perfect Fan- This song is awesome! Brian Littrell did a wonderful job with the lyrics as well as with the backing choir that sang with them. Good Job, Brian!
There! I did it! Anyway, I highly recommend this CD to anyone who likes the Backstreet Boys.
For All With an Ear for Music.......2006-09-12
This album is great--and you don't even have to be a teenybopper to listen to it! Who says that the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC should only have fans that are under the age of 18? I mean, give me a break, people. There are plenty of full-grown adults out there who dig this kind of music.
My most favorite songs on this CD would have to be "I Want It That Way", "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely", and "Don't Wanna Lose You Now".
Although the Backstreet Boys are not the same as *NSYNC, that doesn't mean they can't sing well. So why does everybody, especially critics, constantly slam these guys? I just don't understand it.
If you haven't bought a copy of this CD yet, then what are you waiting for? Fish out that wallet of yours from your pocket and go make a purchase! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
You want it this way? You got it!.......2006-08-29
This is def. the BSB's most memorable album. Highlights include "I Want It That Way" and "The Perfect Fan" - the latter being dedicated to their moms! If you're a Backstreet Boys fan, this is the album to have. If you appreciate general pop and the Boy Band era of music, you can get into this too. Not obnoxious to listen to otherwise, either.
WOW.......2006-07-10
I AM NOT A BSB FAN OR A POP FAN BUT THIS IS A TIGHT ALBUM
EVERY SONG ON HERE IS AWESOME
WHEN I GOT THIS CD I COULDN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT
SO I SUGGEST YOU BUY IT
IT IS WORTH EVERY PENNY

OhmygodtheBackstreetBoysrule!!!!!! OK, with that out of the way, let's review The Hits--Chapter One, which is one-stop shopping for the hunky pop group's three American albums--their 1997 self-titled debut, 1999's Millennium, and 2000's Black & Blue. The first disc really shines with "As Long as You Love Me," "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," and "All I Have to Give," capturing the Backstreet Boys' essence: sunny pop under the influence of blue-eyed soul. "I Want It That Way," from the second album, is an undeniable classic, while "The Call" has a deliciously frenzied sexual urgency and a strong, danceable beat. But the other tracks are uneven with the oddball fan-appreciation anthem "Larger Than Life" surrounded by somber, predictable ballads. The new single, "Drowning," is same-old same-old: lazy moaning over a drum machine. The Hits--Chapter One might be an optimistic name for this '90s retrospective. The future is cloudy for chapter two. --Courtney Kemp
Customer Reviews:
good greatest hits collection.......2007-07-23
Backstreet Boys was one of the few "boy bands" that I enjoyed during the 90s. I enjoyed their ballads the best. This is a good collection of their greatest hits.
LOVE IT.......2007-05-06
BSB RULES!!!!!!! I LOVED NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK (STILL DO). BSB PICKED UP WHERE THEY LEFT OFF. ALL THE SONGS ON THIS CD WERE A HUGE HIT. HOWEVER, THE SONG THAT GOT THEM "STARTED" "WEVE GOT IT GOING ON" ISNT ON HERE. SOMETIMES GREATEST HITS ALBUMS TEND TO LEAVE OUT A HIT OR 2. I USED TO HAVE BSB PAJAMAS AND EVERYONE MADE FUN OF ME. OH WELL JUST GET THE CD. GREAT FOR PARTIES.
The Hits Chapter One.......2007-01-11
Nicely selected tunes for this greatest hits CD by Backstreet boys.
This really Brings Back Memories.......2006-11-23
I am so glad I got this CD, it has many of the old songs from the early days of Backstreet Boys, plus a song called "Drowning" which is a really good song. I happen to like all the songs on this CD. Keep an eye out for the Backstreet Boys' newest CD coming out this spring... and remember: KTBSPA or Keep The Backstreet Pride Alive, as they say in other reviews.
Pump it Up!!.......2006-09-19
This CD rocks! Great for working out, listening around the house or pumping it up on the dancefloor! You'll love it!

The Backstreet Boys' previous outing, Millennium, was a tough act to follow, combining as it did the storming pop of "Larger Than Life" and the sublime balladry of "Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely." Black & Blue is a worthy successor, if a slightly more mature sound for the boys. There's plenty of uptempo pop, such as the catchy advice dished out on "Get Another Boyfriend" and the slinky beat-riddled R&B of "Shining Star," nicely balanced with some smooth ballads--you can almost hear the lighters sparking up as the Spanish guitar gently plucks away on "I Promise You (with Everything I Am)." However, it's when they take up immediately where Millennium left off that they are at their strongest: "The Answer to Our Life" and "Not for Me" form a sturdy bridge from their previous output onward to the future. If this is the state of things to come, the future is decidedly rosy for Brian, Kevin, Howie, A.J., and Nick. --Helen Marquis
Customer Reviews:
Not bad.......2007-01-25
I'll start by saying that this CD is not fantastic, but it's fun to listen to. I don't particularly like several of the songs, but I adore "Shape Of My Heart", "Get Another Boyfriend", "Answer To Our Lives", "It's True", and "How Did I Fall In Love With You?". I also quite enjoy "The Call" and "More Than That". However I'm not a big fan of the sort of hip hop side of the Backstreet Boys, and there are several sort of hip hop-y songs on this CD, so I find myself hitting the skip button a lot. Plus, what's up with Nick's hair??!!!?? Get the man a hairdresser!!!!! Or at least a mirror...
But the CD is defenitely worth the money, just for the numbers listed above. If you're a Backstreet Boys fan, you'll love this album.
Old CD But a Good CD.......2006-11-19
This isn't a half bad CD. I think that this is when their downfall began. There newer songs are quite a bit better. The Backstreet Boys are now maturing... they are also now a quartet, which means a singing group made up of four people. I happen to like the call, shape of my heart, as well as others on this album. I look forward to hearing their album in 2007.
Better than Millenium.......2006-02-16
I know everyone just loves millenium and so do I but this cd is far better to me. I love every song on here and again the harmonies the melodies the emotions are raw and heart felt. The fast tracks are great to dance to and I love the remix of The Call. Why do ppl insist on comparing pop music to rock music, the pleas of the " i love good music crowd" that want to dismiss good pop for the so called rock music. Rock music has its purpose Pop music has its purpose if you are a Rock fan and a male you will not like this cd. BSB are the Kings of Ballads, and women love ballads so don't be jeolus males, keep listening to your rock with its supposedly hard edged lyrics and guitar playing memebers and let us enjoy the smooth melodic sounds of BSB.
should be black and blue for owning this.......2006-01-09
it sucks and the album cover is pretty boring too
Backstreet Boys are back on the street!.......2006-01-01
This is one of the best CDs I own. I will make this a short review- each and every song on it expresses all sorts of heartwarming words and amazing emotions that show just how some people feel about the girl they want to love, even if they keep those feelings only to themselves. Every song has wondrous lyrics, a terrific beat and is perfect for those who need soft and relaxing music. Nuff said! Buy this CD! It's well worth your $, especially if you like boy bands!

The world may be divided into two camps when it comes to the Orlando-based Backstreet Boys--detractors and hard-core fans--but no one can deny the fact that the boys produce perfectly polished pop that sells. The hits on this album speak for themselves: "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," "As Long as You Love Me," and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." If you're not one of the disciples, however, you may want to steer clear: lackluster attempts at R&B, saccharine ballads, and a murderous remake of PM Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" make this a slick production but little more. --Rebecca Wallwork
Customer Reviews:
The Beginning of BSB.......2007-05-29
This was not the group's first studio CD. It was, however, their US debut CD with songs complied from their first two CDs released overseas.
But, what you get with this album is sugery pop at its finest. All the songs on this album work like fine tuned machines, and that is not an insult. From the upbeat pop hits ("Everybody (Backstreet's Back))" to their soft ballads ("All I Have To Give") one is left knowing their full appeal to their adoring fans.
But, what you get mostly from this album is the beginnings of a boy band. The album is laced with do-gooder lyrics swaering to do a gilr right, mend her broken heart, and take all her worries away with a kiss. And, if you look at all five of them, you'd be hoping they would come into your room and make good on those promises. Not for one second while listening to this album do you feel embarrased of silly listening (well, at east until you get to the last song).
What you have here is a wonderful pop album with all the trimmings--five harmonious vocals, slow dance songs, dance beats, and crooner promises. If this is not your cup of tea, do'nt listen. But, if it is, you're going to be surprisinggly happy by CD's end.
This was one of my very first CD's.......2006-11-16
There is no question about it... these guys are the best! This is not one of my FAVORITE albums of all time, but it is one of my favorites. I like this CD because I like how young these guys used to sound. My favorite songs on this CD are "We've Got It Goin' On", "Quit Playing Games With My Heart" as well as others. Heck, I actually like the whole CD except for one song... "Darlin'". I never did like that song much. Other wise, I love this CD. This is another CD I'd recommend. Thank you for your time in reading this review!

The fourth in the series of Top 40-tracking compilations strikes a good balance between pop radio played-to-death singles, R&B standouts, and straight-up rock chart stormers. The beginning of the disc is packed with requisite teen pop; however, the Britney Spears offering "(You Drive Me) Crazy" will probably disappoint those who were hoping for the more recent "Oops!... I Did It Again"). This disc, where the Italian group Eiffel 65's dance-pop smash "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" lives in the same space as Blink 182's "All the Small Things," Ben Harper's "Steal My Kisses," and Macy Gray's "I Try," is like channel surfing during drive-time radio hours and scoring with every hit of the "seek" button. --Beth Massa

Now 4.......2007-02-15
Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: This was a great song to dance too at the club when it came out. A
Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: This is my favorite Britney song of all time. Not only is the beat great but it makes me want to sing along. A+
Marc Anthony - I Need To Know: No I don't need to know and this song is just awful I always skip it when I listen to this cd. F-
Mandy Moore - Candy: Great song and great singer. I always did like Mandy Moore's music. A
Eiffel 65 - Blue: This song was awesome; that is all I can say. I loved the song and the music video. This is one of the best songs on the cd. A+
Sonique - It Feels So Good: It depends on my mood with this song. I like the singer but this song was overplayed. C
Lenny Kravitz - I Belong To You: This wasn't one of Lenny's best songs and this song was 2 years old at the time this was released but it is catchy none-the-less. B
Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: I liked this song; I danced to it at my wedding reception. It is very romantic. B+
Joe - I Wanna Know: Like the previous song, this is another romantic song that brings back memories. A-
Aaliyah - Try Again: I miss Aaliyah; this was a woman who could sing and the songs were meaningful. I loved this song and I do refer to it from time to time when I am talking with friends. A+
Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: This was a good hit for Jennifer. I have to admit the music video was better. B
Montell Jordan - Get It On Tonite: Please don't get it on tonite, this was the second song I didn't like on this cd. Even the music sounded bad. F
Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Steal My Kisses: An average song, have no complaints. C
Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: This was another great hit off of their cd. It is catchy and plain addictive. A+
Train - Meet Virginia: I am not a big fan of Train but I did like this song. I liked it the first time I heard it. A-
Macy Gray - I Try: This is the one of two songs I liked by Macy Gray. It is a shame she went downhill after this cd but I still like this song. A
Hanson - This Time Around: I have no comment on this song. Hanson should have given up with the cd previous to this. They don't deserve an F they deserve a Z-
blink-182 - All The Small Things: This was a great song. The beat and the way it went was good enough to buy the cd. A
Vol. 4.......2006-07-18
A step up indeed was Vol. 4 in the Now! series, for with this contribution we recieve almost an entire album of quality songs with very few 'skipable' tracks. Sadly, the first track is 'skipable'. The Backstreet Boys offered some very decent tracks on their sophmore album, but the single 'Larger than Life' was not one of them. It's regurgitating pop/shlop at it's worst and should be avoided at all costs. And to think they had so many good tracks on that one CD alone. Britney serves up a great pop song with Crazy, although the 'Stop' remix for the film was better. Marc Anthony has never been my favortie latin artist, but I have always loved 'I Need to Know' so despite my distaste for Anthony himself, I don't skip this track.
Superstar Mandy Moore, who at this day and age is better known for her acting than her singing, serves up her debut single 'Candy' here and shows us that pretty face aside this girl can sing too. Out of all the pop queen diva's, next to Christina of course, Mandy has the purist voice, deffinatly surpassing Britney and that 'shoot myself if I ever have to hear her sing another song' Jessica Simpson.
There are some questionmarks here and they come in the form of Eiffel 65 and Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, both of which turn out tracks here that are less than impressive. I never was a far on 'Blue' and until this disc had never heard of 'Steal KIsses' but neither track makes me want to listen. I label these 'Skipable'...
I actually like 'It Feels So Good' mostly becasue it's not average and while it takes a little getitng used to it's still worth the listen. Finally a Lenny Kravitz song I like!!! 'I Belong to You' is a great song and it really showcases Kravitz talent, talent I wasn't privy to until this song. Savage Garden was big with a lot of my girlfriends at the time (both platonic and romantic) and 'I Knew I Loved You' was truly one of the best...plus I have a special place in my heart for that track (some naughty things happened while that track was pumpin').
Some strong tracks by the late Aaliyah (RIP) and a killer track by Montel (love this guy) help round out this album, making it more about the music than any particular genre. And yes J. Lo delivers with 'Waiting for Tonight' which is one of the best dance songs out there, and while some hated it I absolutly loved Trains 'Meet Virginia' for it was our first chance to meet Trian and they are truly one great band. Even Macy is forgivable here for she adds something to this album that no other artist could have...and that's an air of toleration. Notice I didn't list her with the 'sucky' songs for even though I'm not a huge fan of her or 'I Try' I've always respected her talent for what it was even if I just didn't quite get it.
Blink closes us out with yet another great song, though a bit overplayed...but it's Blink and you have to love them. Great collection of the best the year had to offer. Yes some were missed, some great and some not so, but what was shared was still memerable and well worth the storage space.

I feel that the "Now That's What I Call Music!" series is one of the best things to happen to the music industry in quite some time. Especially in our age of illegal downloading; it provides a legal method to obtain great single without bankrupting your wallet. Ussually, the albums are well worth the purchase because they are solid collections of quality singles. That is not the case with "NOW 4"; one that is too much of a mixed bag. For every really good song, there is one that ranges from bad to average. Unfortunetly, the two types are scattered throughout (so we can't skip an entire section). The mixed bag of tracks:
(1) Backstreet Boys "Larger Than Life" A+. Commonly known for their ballads, the boys deliver a perfect dance number here. Everything is pumped up to create an energized, stormin' pop/rock track flowing with solid beats. You can't help getting caught up in the energy and excitment this gererates. One of 1999's best singles.
(2) Britney Spears "(You Drive Me) Crazy" C+. Fun beat and production, yet very shallow in the end. Sticks to memory afterwards, but after examination we realizie that the song is about nothing. Though it isn't terrible; there are many more songs out there which are more worthy of our time.
(3) Marc Anthony "I Need To Know" A. Simple content that is filled with so much energy, zest and excitment to make it work on all levels. Anthony shows himself to be a very versatile vocalist, and a person who can flow perfectly with his beats. The song is wisely on the short side, any longer could have ruined it. This is a true treasure of 1999.
(4) Mandy Moore "Candy" B+. The material doesn't have much in terms of depth, but Mandy brings enough flair and style to make it work. Her voice is effective as it gives a certain conviction and urgency to the lyrics. Not a brilliant "teen pop" song; just a very entertaining one.
(5) Eiffel 65 "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" B-. This song is very dificult to review. As intriuging as I find the lyrics and get mesmerized by the beat; I still wish the song would pull together and complete what it ventures into. Although it isn't a complete success; it is never boring.
(6) Sonique "It Feels So Good" D+. She sounds extremley high pitched, and the voice is so odd and strange, that the song is irreversably crippled by it. If there is any substance to the song; it becomes lost a muddled through out. This is an example of a dance song failing.
(7) Lenny Kravitz "I Belong To You" B+. It is rather refreshing to hear Lenny shed the massive beats, because that gives him the opprotunity to showcase his vocals. He sings this track with utter conviction and heart throughout. That gives the song a certain depth and emotion.
(8) Savage Garden "I Knew I Loved You" C. A well made song that just plays it safe, and never does anything new or exciting. The vocals are decent (beats are almost none-existent), but there is no real depth in them. In the end, the song lacks the impact that could have had from a better group (i.e. 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys)
(9) Joe "I Wanna Know" B+. In contrast to many songs; this is a retro R&B track which works. The material is as old as time, yet Joe's classy, polished voice make it sound convincing and touching at all times. As they say: a very good singer can make an old song sound new; and that's what he does here.
(10) Aaliyah "Try Again" A-. There's a really nice undercut of hip-hop here, which gives the song alot of it's edge. Aaliyah's voice adds conviction to make the lyrics sound passionate, and add some depth to them. Proof that not all R&B has to be sad; you get completely wrapped up in Timbaland's production.
(11) Jennifer Lopez "Waiting For Tonight" B. Well made, but it doesn't fully display J. Lo's talents. It's catchy, fun and light, yet we know that the song could have been more than that. "On The 6" was her debut LP, and it seems average compared to her later albums, particularly "J. Lo".
(12) Montell Jordan "Get It On Tonite" C. His 1995 single, "This Is How We Do It" is a memorable R&B classic. Shame that the qualities that made that work (the slick vocals and beat) are all-together lacking here. What's left is a standard R&B tune with no life to it. A real step back for Montell Jordan.
(13) Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals "Steal My Kisses" D. Their ungainly mix of R&B, funk and folk is a total failure. The beat has no impact, the lyrics have no substance and there is no impact or meaning at all. Strange that "NOW" would use such an odd mess.
(14) Smash Mouth "Then The Morning Comes" B-. The begining is so brilliant, original and different; I wish the song kept up that pace. It's not in the same league as "All Star", but still remains a solid pop/rock single. You can't help listening to the opening over and over.
(15) Train "Meet Virginia" C-. I really liked "Drops Of Jupiter" and "Calling All Angels"; those were rock tracks filled with emotion and power. I don't see any purpose to this song; the emotion isn't there and it's very uninvolving. I guess Train just had to find their skills.
(16) Macy Gray "I Try" B-. This is a beautifully written song with heartfelt lyrics, made unsuccessful by one factor: Macy's voice. Her voice is very weak and not very appealing, thus she detracts from the impact of her work. This song would be much better if someone else sung it.
(17) Hanson "This Time Around" D. It's not as irrating as "MMMBop" (few songs are), but there is nothing good about it either. All that the song does is cement the fact that Hanson was a talentless group. A very disposable song.
(18) blink-182 "All The Small Things" A-. A very good song that delivers everything we expect from blink-182. In fact, it even has more dimension and relevance than most of their music. It's short, but that helps create a nice, little breeze of a rock single. A good ending to a so-so album.
Bottom Line: **1/2. A real step backwards after the great heights that "NOW 3" was able to reach. I liked some of the songs, but I really could have done without a handful of them. Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff", 98 Degrees' "I Do (Cherish You)", Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thing", Brian McKnight's "Stay Or Let It Go", Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" and Big Pun's "It's So Hard" all would have been better selection. I can not tell you to rush out and buy this, but put it on your wish list or hope for it as a gift.

On Never Gone, the Backstreet Boys crib from the pop foundation they helped establish. Like a lot of smart popsters on the rebound, the reunited fab five broach their return by borrowing from the current hit makers. Even after a four-year hiatus, the flecks of new influence won't matter a bit to the fans. The boys' signature sugar-coated yearning softens every song to a melty consistency, and the lyrics haven't lost any of their babe-magnet pull. "It's all so dark and mysterious/When the one you want doesn't want you," sing the chiseled Lotharios on "Siberia." And on the final title track, a swirling crescendo sums up the sentiments of millions of heartsick, former teen devotees: "Never gone, never far/In my heart is where you are." -Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Very good, but one complaint.......2006-12-23
I've been a big BSB fan since 1999 and have all their import albums with bonus tracks. I think this album is their worst, but still good. My biggest complaint about this album is the lack of the Darren Hayes penned track Lift Me Up, they said in interviews that is was not up to par with the rest of the album and I could not disagree more. The boys didn't have hardly anything to do with the writing on this album, which is not my complaint, but the Darren Hayes track could have over powered almost any track on the entire album. I have the Darren Hayes version and the BSB version and they are both stellar. BSB do an awesome job on the track which is hard for me to say because I am a Darren Hayes fanatic and I wonder what they were thinking when they left this track of the release and didn't even include it as a B-Side. Anyway, Never Gone is a solid album, just pissed they didn't include the Darren Hayes track because it eclipses most of the songs on the album. A solid return and something new. A good album, just could have been slightly better. Too bad for the US fans, we get no bonus tracks unless we buy the import version of the album which is always better than the US release. Record companys give the US the worst version of any album no matter what the artist. Compare any import album to any US release and you will find the US release to be stripped in comparison.
Backstreet's Back Alright!.......2006-11-19
Oh My God They're Back Again!
I love this album! The rock 'n' roll numbers the guys do are awesome. I like all the songs on this album except "Crawling Back To You". The group won't be the same without Kevin Richardson, though. I can't wait for their new 2007 album... nor can I wait for AJ's solo album either. I'm sure they will both be good. KTBSPA!
Closet fan coming out with a rave review.......2006-08-16
I do not like fluffy pop music. I do not like boy bands. I do not like drum machines. I do not like sappy, whiny love ballads. I do not like teen idols.
Yet here I am, with the bold truth that I really, really like this album, because this one does not (for the most part) descend into the pitfalls any of those things.
This review is for the other closet fans like me who are sneaking peeks at the reviews to see if they want to step up and make the purchase. This is for the people who find that the Backstreet Boys' music here is, to their pleasant surprise, a decent exception to the shallow, mindless, Top-40 crap being cranked out by today's pop culture. This isn't what you'd expect from this band. It's better; it goes a long way to break them out of the boy-band stereotypes.
Here's the thing: I don't know any of their names. I couldn't pick any of them out of a line-up to save my life. All I know is that I like what I hear. If you like good harmonies, and you like good music to go with it, that's enough.
Of course, not every track will be to your liking. Even CDs by my way-favorite artists are never full of ringers from start to finish. But they hit it out of the park with "Incomplete," "My Beautiful Woman," and my favorite track, "Siberia." Great stuff. Take a listen on the Amazon preview there. It won't do it all justice, but you'll get the idea.
All right, that's that; let it be known that this album has made me a fan who would probably actually buy tickets to see the Backstreet Boys if they came to town.
I loved it!.......2006-08-14
I think that the Backstreet Boys are the most talented boy band ever, (and my favorite musical group personally), and the album Never Gone was a great example of that talent. Although I loved their other albums, this one has to be one of my favorites because of its mature and powerful sound. I do miss the dance pop sound, but this album shows that as they get older they can also get better. I loved the powerful ballads, "Just Want You to Know" "Lose it All" and "Safest Place To Hide." Those three along with "Poster Girl", which had a very unique sound, are my favorites on the CD. Anyone who has a problem with boy bands can listen to this album before they say anything bad about them. Obviously they have loads of talent!
BEAUTIFUL, POWERFUL, SLICK AND MATURE!.......2006-07-23
I can't stop playing this CD since I first purchased it in June 2005. There is a mixture of fast and slow songs, however, it is full of songs that touch my heart. A beautiful CD full of strong, mature and powerful songs for every fan as well as people who wouldn't normally give this group a second glance. I was never much of a fan at the height of their popularity, however, once I bought this CD (the first of theirs I bought) I was in for a luxuriously, wonderful surprise. It is my favourite CD of the last 14 months and I listen to it regularly.
For anyone who has ever lost someone they loved, this CD has some special songs on it that just touch your heart and soul in a way I don't often hear in music anymore. I am referring to songs like Safest Place To Hide, Siberia, Rush Over Me (available on the UK version of the CD), I Still and of course, the powerful song, Never Gone. I can't tell you how many times I have played these songs.
I highly recommend this CD for all of you reading these reviews and who have yet to purchase the disc. You will thoroughly enjoy it! (but do not expect the previous BSB type of music!).
Now I can't wait for their new CD which they are currently in the studio recording! I also quite like Brian Littrell's debut CD ''Welcome Home'' which has just been released.

Backstreet not what you think.......2007-07-03
This is a great tape, and despite what you might think about a name like "Backstreet Boys" this is not a tape that needs an "explicit lyrics" sticker on the cover...maybe an "explicit harmonies" or "explicit passion" but that is about it. I kept waiting for the part of the tape where I would have to fast forward through some inappropriate slang...but to be honest, I ended up only hitting that rewind button ;^)
I wasn't in to music much when this tape came out as (you can understand) I was a senior in highschool and focused on getting a summer job lined up...anyways CHECK THIS OUT!
I still prefer this to Never Gone.......2006-11-06
There was a time when bubblegum pop dominated the charts, when girls would faint at the sight of handsome crooners while their boyfriends would roll their eyes in exasperation. This was the late '90s, and while the boyband craze has long faded away, the Backstreet Boys proved to be more than pretty faces and one-hit wonders. Among all the other all-male pop bands of that era, BSB were (and still are) the most talented of the bunch, with genuinely beautiful and powerful voices. Whether you worship them or despise them, you can't deny the fact that they really can sing. They've been through a lot over the years, but they managed to make a pretty successful comeback in 2005. And while they deserve credit for trying to renew their sound, their latest album Never Gone doesn't have the freshness or the infectious beats of their eponymous and debut effort. Which is totally normal, because an album like this could never make its way to record store shelves today. Things have changed since the late '90s. Unfortunately, it's not necessarily for the better. I really miss the time when the Backstreet Boys were all about love and having a good time. There's a certain innocence and purity on that album which we can't find on their other albums. Of course, back in those days, BSB were merely puppets in the hands of record execs and happy to just be recording an album. But I still get a kick out of listening to this album, and it's really hard to believe that it's already been 10 years since it was released. Now in their early 30s and down one member (Kevin Richardson recently left the band to pursue solo projects), BSB have to face new challenges. Whether or not they will be able to achieve their phenomenal success of yesteryear again is anyone's guess. But right now, I prefer to party like it's 1996.
Classic.......2006-07-19
Classic BSB in the old days. It's a great CD of good sugery pop love tunes! You have to love it!

This is the album that made me fall in love with their music. I prefer the old stuff because it was more organic than today's processed and manufactured music. Definitely a must listen to for all BSB fans! Just to Be Close and I wanna Be With You are worth buying this!

When it comes to the Orlando-based Backstreet Boys, the world may be divided into two camps--detractors and hard-core fans--but no one can deny the fact that the guys produce perfectly polished pop that sells. The hits on this second European album (which includes five tracks not on the corresponding U.S. debut) speak for themselves: "Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)," "As Long as You Love Me," and "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)." If you're not one of the disciples, however, you may want to steer clear: lackluster attempts at R&B, saccharine ballads, and a murderous remake of PM Dawn's "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" make this little more than a slick production. --Rebecca Wallwork

Backstreet's Back ALRIGHT!.......2005-12-12
Well I'm one of the lucky ones who could just go to the cd shop and get this album the easy way (although I also bought the US debut album that was released on the same day as an IMPORT album). This cd is still one of my favorite Backstreet albums. It has a great mixture of uptempo songs and balads on it, and even after all this time (it was released 8 years ago in august 1997) it still is a great album.
A quick guide through the songs:
"Backstreet's Back" is an uptempo song that is very dancable and catchy. Great song. This isn't the extended version that's on the US debut album, but the radio edit with Nick's vocals still intact (So everybody, everywhere/don't be afraid don't have no fear/gonna tell the world, make them understand/as long as there'll be music we'll be coming back again).
"As Long As You Love Me" is agreat midtempo lovesong, very catchy. This mix is better than the US mix I think. Still my favorite BSB song.
"All I Have To Give" is the same as the US version, ballad.
"That's The Way I Like It" isn't a cover of KC and the sunshine band, but a better uptempo song with the same title. It's catchy, dancable and it has great vocals on it with a good beat, what more could you ask for?
"10,000 Promises" is a loveballad and it isn't a happy one. Perfect song if you have a broken haert, helps you to vent every frustration...
"Like A Child" is another sad love song. This ballad is very touching. And the vocals are just so beautiful!
"Hey, Mr DJ (Keep Playin' This Song)" is also on the US debut album. Catchy dancable song, easy to sing along to.
"Set Adrift On Memory Bliss" is a cover I belief, but I'm not sure. Good song, ballad, strong vocals, same as the US version.
"That's What She Said" was written by Brian and it's just the sweetest song on the album. Great song for anyone who likes to hear Mr Littrell sing, for he takes on all the solo parts. It's a ballad about a broken relationship, again a very good song if you have a broken heart. I remenber the live version of this song (at a concert in 1998) as one of the most magical moments.
"If You Want It To Be Good Girl (Get Yourself A Bad Boy)" is also on the US debut album, and I think it's just a great song.
Catchy, dancable and just so fun to listen to... inspired loads of signs back on the 1998 tour...
"If I Don't Have You" is a loveballad with great ballad. Slowely prepars you for the end of this album.
If you think the 46 minutes and 11 seconds are a bit short, you're wrong. This is an enhanced cd, so if you pop it into the computer, you get loads of extra stuff, like videoclips (so cute), background story and a quiz...
I highly recomend this album, especially in combination with the European "Backstreet's Back" (make sure you get the one with 16 tracks on it!)!!!
Best Music - It rules All!.......2005-07-21
This cd is so great. The backstreet boys are very talented unlike sleezy singers like 50 Cent and Dr. Dre. The backstreet boys can sing so well. When I'm not very happy or in a good mood, I listen to this cd and it just makes me smile. This cd is very special, with such a wonderful song like "that's what she said", which by the way wonderful brian wrote and a very cool song "thats's the way i like it".Those are my 2 favorite songs of this album, but not one of these songs has a bad side to it. I think everyone out there should buy this cd because you'll end up falling inlove with it. I luv the backstreet boys, they are obviously my fave.Buy the cd cause it beats all the others.
The second album by the sugaboyz.......2002-11-24
A typical Boygroup-album. Songs about broken hearts and missing somebody and Bubblegum-Pop. But there are at least a few songs that are not that bad ("Everybody", "Like a child", "If I don't have you" and "As long as you love me"). I mean that melody is not that bad so that the songs aren't boring but the lyrics are just stupid.
So if you like the five cuuute guys you'll love this album. If not: Stay away and don't touch it. This is just kitschy.
Pop Sinsation.......2002-07-30
If you are a pop fan, then this is the CD for you! Not only does it have that pop-sound to it, but it has the advantage of R&B and different genres of music mixed into it as well. Also, this is the Backstreet fan's dream CD! Actually, all Backstreet CDs are a fans dream. This CD includes an original song, that is most possibly my favorite on the album, called 'That's What She Said'! It is not only sung by the Backstreet Boys, but was also written by one of the members, Brian Littrell! This CD not only helps to prove that real talent does exist, it shows you that the real talent has a name, and that name is Backstreet!! KTBSPA!

Here's A GROOVE!!!!.......2004-06-09
It's 1982 and David Sanborn is back playing HOT funk-jazz on
his saxaphone! His Hank Crawford-inspired playing is set to
ultra funky numbers like the smooth "Told U So",the electrofied
"Believer" and the smoldering title track.Even at it's mellowist
it's cool, loose and underproduced;just the way this kind of music should be.Smooth jazz?No nothing smooth here-there's a BIG difference between smooth and cool and THIS falls into the
latter!
Ain't Nothin' Like Hot Sax...Late At Night !.......2002-08-08
Sanborn's '83 release brought a new meaning to late night or midnight music listening ! By no means is this elevator muzak, either ! In fact, Sanborn was on the cutting edge in using drum machines and synthesizer arrangements without stifling his sax playing or throwing the whole project out of whack. Sanborn's playing is very upfront and sharp ! While the recording may sound dated, it is only in a very good positive way to demonstrate what is lacking in some of today's so-called pop-jazz or r & b instrumentalists. Substance! With well renowned and brilliant guest artists, such as Luther Vandross and Marcus Miller, Sanborn could not have been in better company. This is a project solidly chock full of warm r & b, sensible adult pop-jazz and clever melodic hooks.Backstreet is a blue print for later pop-jazz instrumentalists like Kenny G. and Candy Dulfer. Kenny G. only wishes he could sound as good as this guy (ouch !)...
A Landmark Recording, 8 March 2002.......2002-03-05
David Sandborn is my all time favourite saxophonist. His 1980 release, 'Voyeur', initially exposed me to him and this genre of music. After that first taste, I began to obtain his back catalogue, which included the fine 'As We Speak' LP. However, it was not until I heard this LP, which I believe is his best recording to date, I realised that this was an artist in the true sense of the word. Every track is full of emotion. At times his sax sounds like it IS a human voice. Remarkable! The use of drum machines, which was a reflection of the times, did not hinder but enchanced the recordings, as guided but the deft hand of Marcus Miller. I could go on and on, but, however I will close with this - whenever I hear a track from this album, I am in Germany, I'm 22 and it is 1984 all over again!! It is truly a MUST HAVE for your cd collection:-)
One of Sanborn's Best.......2001-07-24
This album marked a major change in album sound for David Sanborn. Several pieces feature his signature alto sax sound double-tracked, the second track being one octave lower than the first. This makes for a much thicker sound, and perhaps accounts for some of Mr. Arvidson's perception of a pleasing sound in the low-frequency range. The album also was David's first to rely heavily on programmed electronic drum sounds.
Marcus Miller's bass work and production skills are in fine form in this album -- much matured from 1981's "Voyeur." Guitarist Hiram Bullock is responsible for much of the performing and production work in the opener, "I Told U So." "When You Smile at Me" and "A Tear for Crystal" both feature beautiful, lyrical melodies. "Believer" has some happening bass work by Marcus Miller, as well as some cool vocoder sounds. The title tune is worth repeated listenings, especially because of its interesting use of percussion. Drummer Steve Gadd displays some very fine brushwork -- in tandem with Marcus Miller's drum machine parts. I've heard very few tunes that integrate "live" and programmed percussion so well. The remaining tunes are also good. I could take or leave the vocal arrangement of "Neither One of Us," although David's improvised responses to the vocalists are very hip.
If you are down on Sanborn's playing, you won't find anything here to change your mind; but if you like it, you will enjoy this album. If you have the ears to pick up on some hip subtleties, you will dig it even more. I've enjoyed listening to this album since it came out.
This and "As We Speak" are the top Sanborn albums ever........2001-06-11
I'm afraid I disagree with Miss A. Meniru. I think the two best produced Sanborn albums are "Backstreet" and "As We Speak". Not only are they well produced and mixed with an abundance of pleasing lower end frequency range, but Sanborn is stretching himself to the limit of expressiveness. I think these two albums are milestones and should be grabbed up before they go out of production!

Customer Reviews:
Great blues based Brit Rock..........2007-04-21
Backstreet Symohony is a great release from a great band that simply flew under most people's radar because they were never able to get that hit single in the States. Thunder plays simple straightforward blues based rock with great hooks and melodies(they are NOT a "hair band" as they are sometimes lumped in with). Full of guitars, great vocals(I really like Don Bowes' voice) and lyrics with tounge in cheek humor this is just good FUN rock'n'roll.
Song Highlights include: Dirty Love, Backstreet Symphony, Love Walked In, An Englishman On Holiday(should be on every barroom jukebox), Gimme Some Lovin'(good cover) and Distant Thunder.
If you are a fan of guitar based rock, Thunder delivers it in spades and Backstreet Symphony is worthy of a place in your collection.
Yes it's old, but it rocks!.......2006-06-23
I bought this CD MANY years ago because I loved the music of Andy Taylor (he produced this, I think)and have loved it since. The music is great and "Englishman on Holiday" is funny. It didn't get nearly the credit it deserved back then. It's good, timeless rock and roll.
unexpected killer.......2005-10-27
I bought this album quite awhile ago.(17 yrs. I think.) The cover was different than this cd cover. That's why I bought it. I never heard of these guys before and I only saw it on cassette tape. i STILL HAVE IT.And I still listen to it.Check out "Until my dying day" LOUD.This guy has a voice in the range of Ronnie Dio but a little nastier.I'm going to buy more from these guys now that I know they were not "one album wonders" Buy this,it's KILLER
Between 3.5 and 4 stars.......2005-08-26
I picked up this CD a few days ago and while I find it very enjoyable I can't give it five stars like everybody else. Some of the songs go on a little longer than they need to, almost everyone one on the disk is over 5 minutes! At times they also remind me of Whitesnake, among others, which is not a horrible thing but not a great thing either. Overall, this CD is a worthwhile purchase if you've never heard of Thunder and are looking for something new after completing your Zeppelin, Who, Purple, Sabbath, etc. collections. I'd agree that's it's better than just about anything coming out today (not too hard to do that) but it's still a couple of notches below the best that British rock has to offer.
Like a Cheap Suit, You Were All Over Me...........2005-05-18
Rock music has, over it's stormy history, produced some great singers. Names such as Brian Johnston, John Fogerty, Paul Rodgers,Burton Cummings, Dan Bowes.... Who, you may ask, is Dan Bowes?
Why, he's just about the greatest lead vocalist you've never heard. But, I promise you, if you listen to even ONE Thunder
album , you will agree with me. This guy has a voice that cuts 'em all. And, Thunder is one hell of a good band. This, thier debut album, is very, very impressive. "She's so fine", Dirty Love, Until my dying day", go ahead, pick one, you'll love them all. Eleven great songs performed with a great deal of enthusiasm and skill by a great band with a singer you will not believe. Go ahead, buy a Thunder album. Take it home and tell me I'm wrong. Thunder...Dan Bowes. Great, great stuff.
