Customer Reviews:
Abstract is one smooth, cool MF!.......2004-03-13
This album is a joy to listen to, let me just first say that. Ab has a style all his own and the listener really gets into his music. His voice is deep and gritty and the Cali sound that infuses this album is really cool. In fact, that one word is what describes this album, cool. Laid-back cool. The producing is smooth and easy and the lyrics are strait to the point at times and chill at others. Overall, this album is very refreshing, light, and jazzy. In other words: it bumps!!! I would suggest this album to anyone who is sick of all the stupid rap that is going on nowadays and is looking for something stimulating and cool.
perfect blend...like V8.......2004-01-20
this album has the perfect blend of everything. i love the mellow sounds of jazz and blues that it mixes in with hip-hop. everything fits to that nice mellow sound of true black music...MASSIVE amounts of heart and soul. that's what i respect most about abstract rude, this album has a lot of heart in it. i love the sound of music that has any relations to Sam Cookie and his era. this album mixes some of the tunes and jazzy music from it. every track is deep and prolific on it's own. and then when abstract comes in, he just kills the song. his flows are awesome, his deep voice just towers over you and makes you feel smaller than you really have to. but that's a good thing given his rhymes, he's deep in his own terms. what he says comes clean indefinitely with his voice. get this album if you're searching for some down-tempo, mellow, jazzy sounding hip-hop. this is the album that opposites any nelly garbage.
True L.A. Undergroud.......2004-01-15
This album is worth buying. The beats and lyrics are pure genius. The most popular track (Stop Biting) is a real piece of work. Rob the Viking did a really dope job on it. What I like about this CD is the many different styles Ab uses. What I dislike however, are the collaborations. Don't get me wrong, Busdriver, Aceyalone, LMNO, and all them are cool, it's just that Ab didn't really get a chance to shine on his OWN album. All in all this is really a great album. This CD defines the meaning of true L.A. underground
hip hop's finest.......2003-03-11
P.A.I.N.T gets five stars because anyone can pick up this album and appreciate abstarct rudes skills. After listening to it a few times you will probably get addicted and end up with all his other titles. Heavyweights 4 is a standout track on this album for me and it displays the skills of the freestyle fellowship. Other standout tracks for me are: a coat of paint, stop bitin, and frisbee.if your just gettin started in hip hop i think this is a goos place to start. Some other titles to look into would be Aceyalone,Accepted ecleptic and who framed the a team?
Man this must be deep..........2002-03-19
Aight, first off i gave this album 5 stars because they didnt seem to have the 100th star... I havent been listening to alot of underground hip-hop for the majority of my life, in fact i only recently got into it. It was around a year and a half ago i started listenin to aceyalone, mikah 9, abstract rude, dilated peoples, gang starr, hieroglyphics, & the list goes on. I had heard ab rude on swollen member cuts, on the Haiku D'etat album, on who framed the a-team, on aceyalones album, and more. When i saw this album came out i was very hyped. This album was a deep learning lesson for me. He talked about how he grew upp struggling and never got no respect & talked about the goodlife cafe near lemiert park. I must say, that in fact any artists that rap about cash & hoes dont know how to bust flows & should not be considered hip-hop nor rap artists. Back to this album i have no way of completely explaining it to you. Just pick it up, its got great guestapearances by dj drez on the cut "Yep", a few more great cuts: "Family Affair", "Brothers Forever", "Stop Biting", & last but not least "A Coat Of Paint". Please pick up this album cuz its got dope beats & deep lyrics with meanings to em. Support ab & the blowdians & pick this up NOWWW!!! Project Blowed, Thats your ...

Overhyped.......2002-01-14
Abstract Rude has certainly gotten better... the lyrics and production on this album are awful. If you want to hear him at his best try, say, Codename Scorpian (w/ Moka Only & Prevail) or Who Framed the A-Team? (w/ Aceyalone). The only saving grace of this album is the "Inside your Eyes" which is powerful and moving...
Tight lyrics, interesting production.......2001-01-30
This album was one of the rawest I've heard in years. The production was astounding. Check out their other album South Central Thynk Tank!
plus lost, yesterday.......2000-02-04
oh dear. He found me back by the peaches with ear so large, bruise, fuzz, lost. mentos though, I covered my face with clean hands and bloody council and he knew no better.
True hip hop, concious, fun to listen to.......1999-06-05
Abstract rude and crew bring a very special and important album. Must purchase for hip hop fans who feel limited by the current state of hip hop. Nuff respect
More than you know, Abstract Tribe Unique is pure genius........1999-04-18
It has been said often that the hip hop underground yields some of the culture's greatest potential, but indeed turn out to be unworthy of commercial noteriety. Mood Pieces is a remarkable example of hip hop ingenuity and creativity, painting pictures with Rude's lyrical onslaught. Definitely this is a must have, not because it is a rarity, but because it is simply a great example of content and skill, which these days are hard to come by, unless delving into the underground catacombs. Abstract Rude has the talent of creating a mood that directly coincides with the subject of his song, any of which would be a good example. I am thoroughly impressed to say the least. Such intellect is appreciated and long awaited. Furthermore, I must point out that he is from the west coast, a place where hip hop was thought to be dead to the world...but I think we were the ones sleeping.

There is poetic justice: Abstract Tribe Unique's 1998 South Central Thynk Taynk has been reissued. The combination of Abstract Rude, musical coconspirators Irie and Zulu, and producer Fat Jack creates a plump, luscious Los Angeles sound. Abstract Rude, an ace veteran MC who never blows his cool, adds mental spark to the electric relaxation of Fat Jack's beats. The album, pegged a "soulful stimulation of a hip-hop community," is strongly rooted in the South Central community. Rapper Ab Rude doesn't ignore the fact that his 'hood is pockmarked with bullets. But unlike West Coast Gs who glamorize illegal lifestyles, he makes a gangbanger reality check called "They Ryde," which provides a sad glimpse of the monotonous lives of the doomed delinquents of L.A. ghettoes. Then on "Showgun" Rude tosses out a flawless battle rap to remind the kids who's boss: "So how long you been rappin' and doin' what you do? / Your homie's a bear, you're the little one, boo-boo / And I'm the ranger, come to put you on everlasting hibernation." And laid-back, brilliant tunes like "Just Like Akira" and "Hits Like Hank" shine like the sunset through city smog. This is a low-key, high-density classic. --Lizz Mendez Berry

Truly Unique.......2006-08-24
Man, where to start? I think Ab & Fat Jack hit the nail on the head with this one. The rhymes are clever & well delivered, & Ab never lets his style get stale. He's always switching things up & giving you something to think about. Plus the beats are unlike anything else out there (check out Fat Jack's 4LP solo album). Unbelievably lush & authentic. You won't be disappointed.
i dont have it.......2006-03-22
the reason why i gave it one star was because i dont have it, BUT i plan on buying it soon, the song through these streets is awsome
UNBELIEVABLE..........2000-10-17
This album is a perfect example of what good music is all about. One thing about A.T.U. (Abstract Tribe Unique) is that they're willing to go anywhere with their music, and that makes it so appealing to different audiences. With a refreshing mixture of hip-hop, reggae styles, and even some R&B flavor, this album blends into one of the best "hip-hop" genre albums to come out in the new millenium, even though this is the group's original first album - made back in probably the early 90s or so - which is barely being released in 2000 due to distribution problems. The group is better known for their 3rd album entitled, "Mood Pieces," which is also another hip-hop gem in its own right. Enjoy A.T.U. because a group like this only comes along once in a million years, or maybe it just feels like it's that long.
