Though lambasted in some quarters as cynical clones of the then-vaunted "Seattle sound" (in particular, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam) STP's 1993 debut nonetheless found a considerable following for its potent crunch and sly hooks. While some tracks do seem to ape the era's grunge ethos a bit too slavishly, there's also a sense that perhaps Weiland and company were merely sharing some of the same influences as their contemporaries--and on standouts like the riff-savvy "Sex Type Thing" and the moody acoustics of "Creep", accomplishing it with a bit more ambitious range. Indeed, the radio anthem "Crush" belies a devotion to songcraft disdained by many of their peers, one that served as an effective bridge between the stadium rock of the '70s and '80s and the more introspective alt-rock just then coming into vogue--even if the album's triple-platinum sales showed just how ironic and misplaced the "alternative" label could ultimately be. --Jerry McCulley

Stone Temple Pilots at their finest. This is practically a greatest hits album. Excellent from beginning to end.

5 out of 5 stars Always finds its way back into my car rotation.......2007-05-07

I had to repurchase this CD recently, as I'd finally decided to give up on getting it back from the person I lent it to. All I can say is DAMN! what took me so long?!?!? I'd forgotten just how packed with just rock out loud music this CD is - love it pretty much end to end. I've even got my best friend's 15 year old son started on STP since the one day we all piled in to go to dinner, and now he's hooked. I'm not sure she's particulary happy about it, but I'm just doing my part to keep the music alive ; )

I love STP. Plain and simple. I knew from the very first time I heard "Plush" that there was something special about these boys. This is a solid album with plenty of diversity to sink your musical teeth into. Scott Weiland, who is without a doubt one of the best frontmen in modern rock, gives me that feeling that I get when I see or hear Robert Plant during his MIGHTY MIGHTY LED ZEP days. Also, the DeLeo Brothers and Eric Kretz are one of the most under-appreciated rhythm sections rock music has ever produced. I loved this album from start to finish, and still continue to listen to it today. The fact that rock stations still give play to many songs from this album to this day just proves how creative and enjoyable an album this really was. And believe me, it is enjoyable. Long live STP.

5 out of 5 stars Classic STP!.......2007-01-11

My favorite tracks are 7, 9, and 10. I like the whole album though.

5 out of 5 stars Love Lil' Kim..........2007-06-11

I am a HUGE fan of Lil Kim. I lost all of my cd's due to a change of address so when I purchased this, I anticpated all of the songs I used to hear. I was still intrigued by her lyricism after all these years of missing her cd. I am well pleased with this cd and La Bella Mafia and Notorious K.I.M. and The Naked Truth. Love'em ALL!

1 out of 5 stars I dont spend my money on these semen sippers!.......2007-03-26

Best album of 96. Yeah right, Jayz album was better than this and I cant stand him at all. Biggie should be gettin the credit, he the one who wrote the whole damn album. There was a few tracks with some bangin production. But I just didn't feel the lyrics and subject matter. lil kim was just a nasty no good b**** on the mic and I just wasn't feelin her. I didn't feel her then and I dont feel her now. If it wasn't for blind luck leading to success this bimbo would have been one of Luke's groupies.

2 out of 5 stars Hard Core??? Thats A New Definition (Rating 5 out of 10- -2.5 stars).......2006-12-17

I guess my review is going to be in the minority here. I'm not going to say that Lil' Kim is a bad rapper. She just managed to pull a garbage CD. A lot of these songs don't even pass as listenable. Biggie wrote the majority of these rhymes here, so you know that they sound out of place when they come out of Lil' Kim's mouth. The lead single "No Time" with Puff Daddy was decent, and was a good start of her career, but to tell you the truth, it hardly even picks up after that on this album.

The second track "Big Momma Thing" was a banger, possibly because Jay-Z had an awesome second verse. And for some crazy reason, I have a taste for the song "We Don't Need It" even though Lil' Cease is garbage. Thats all I can think of thats good about this.

Most of this album is just filler. "Spend A Lil Doe" just didn't make sense to me. "Queen Bee" is another of these songs that I saw no significance in. Although if you're from New York somewhere, you'll think these song are the best ever. I seem to can't grasp that concept.

Also some of these songs were remixed, and possibly for a good reason. Her most popular single "Crush On You" was one of those remixed tracks. Here on the CD, someone thought it was a good idea to let Lil' Cease have all three verses. The remix it has Kim and Cease rhyming with each other, and it sounds just a little better than the origonal. If this album ever gets repressed, tell them to wipe off the origonal version and add the remix on there. Also the song "Not Tonight" was remixed and titled "Ladie's Night". The origonal song was produced by Jermaine Dupri, and it sounds okay, but you'll get tired of it after awhile. If anyone is interested, the remix would appear on the "Nothing To Lose Soundtrack" and featured Da Brat and Left Eye. Also, if you're sexually orentated, you might be able to tolerate these skits that flow throughout this CD.

Overall, this album is just average album from the '96 era. Nothing special about, unless you just love Kim. I actually enjoy Kim, especially the "La Bella Mafia" album. I just don't think this album measures up to anything I heard from the East Coast during that time. If you like to, I recommend that you check out the album for the songs I said that stood out. If you don't own this album, you're not missing much.

Filmmaker Bruce McDonald's adaptation of Michael Turner's novel Hard Core Logo is about a fictitious Canadian punk band's reunion tour through the great North. Times have changed since the great punk era of the late '70s. Two decades later the music is still high-energy, but the folks playing it are a bit long in the tooth and out to prove otherwise. The music is provided by Hugh Dillon and Swamp Baby, who deliver punk fare such as the accusatory "Who the Hell Do You Think You Are?," the obvious "Rock 'n' Roll Is Fat and Ugly," and the drug-infested "China White (Ten Dollar F**k)." A take on the Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer" lacks the focus of the original, but the inclusion of the Ramones ("Touring"), Teenage Head ("Bonerack"), and Chris Spedding ("Wild Wild Women") adds a touch of authenticity. --Rob O'Connor

    4 out of 5 stars Give it a try!!!.......2006-10-12

I'm a punk from Detroit and never really got into canadien punk or bands, but being half canadien I decided to listen to this album. It is pure punk rawk and it isn't fake. The one singer almost sounds like Lee Ving from Fear, but better. If u like real oldschool punk, give this a try.

5 out of 5 stars Canadian Music at its best.......2002-07-19

Being a Canadian you dont get much chance to see what Canadian punk rock is all about. not only does this movie kick total ass but the soundtrack is awesome....sound quality could be better but its pretty good for a B movie.

4 out of 5 stars "Classic" Canadian punk... late 90s style.......2002-06-11

The movie, about an aging punk band's reunion tour, wasn't too accessible or entertaining but this soundtrack is incredible! True, the band are no more real than Josie N the Pussycats or Spinal Tap but that's no reason not to enjoy memorible punk shouters like "who the hell you think you are", "rock n roll is fat n ugly", "something's gonna die tonight", and "one foot in the gutter". Even the Johnny Thunders style ballads, "China White" and "blue tattoo" are good. Musically Hard Core Logo (actually Swamp Baby with actor Hugh Dillon screetching) recall the Dead Boys (who's "sonic reducer" gets covered) crossed with a sloppier version of early DOA. The bonus contributions from the Ramones, Teenage Head and Chris Speeding are a welcome addition. Other great punk soundtracks to lame punk movies: Josie & the Pussycats, Great Rock & Roll Swindle, Times Square and, to a lesser degree, "Repo Man".
Note: Fans of "Hard Core Logo" (both the movie & the soundtrack) should also sniff out "Prey For Rock & Roll" (again, both the movie and especially the INCREDIBLE soundtrack!).

2 out of 5 stars a sad waste of resources.......1999-01-06

Dillon is great in the film and his band but this cd lacks quality and variety. It sounds as if all are one song lifted directly from a bad copy of the film. Go for the canadian cd companion to the film, if you can find it.

Paul Dean was the guitarist for the group (Loverboy). He breaks a little bit from the Loverboy style and has a harder edge. The first song "Sword And Stone" was later released on the Shocker soundtrack by Bonfire. Both versions are very good but I prefer Bonfire's myself. As for the rest of the songs, they are very catchy and well crafted. This is worth getting if you are a Loverboy, Lukather, Giant, Bon Jovi or Bonfire fan.

This is my personal favourite of Audrey's albums - you can really see her growth as an artist here.

There's an edge of darkness in songs like the title track that is reminiscent of Mary Gauthier (so no surprise to find Mary collaborating on this album).

Don't buy it if you want something light and frothy - but if you appreciate well-honed country/roots with the real feeling of someone who has experienced the pain of growing up, this could be for you

She also has Fred Eaglesmith, Mary Gauthier and Kieran Kane included on one track each. This CD isn't as traditional as her earlier releases, but I still find it OK. Instead this release is more influenced by Kasey Chambers' "Barricades & Brickwalls" release. The best songs here are the shuffle song "Next Big Nothing" (it alone is worth the entire price), "B/Grade Affair" (with Fred Eaglesmith) ,"Doin' Well", "Denied", "Not Who I Am" and "You Did". This CD and all other Audrey Auld records can be bought here or at www.recklessrecords.com

5 out of 5 stars From "down under" to the top in Country Music.......2005-04-22

Audrey Auld Mezera may seem new on the scene by some but she is just now polishing her craft for a hugh break on the charts. Two of her albums - "Losing Faith" and "The Fallen" are two well written/well produced gems. Though she's from Australia, her voice and guitar fit well in American country music. Her sound spices of blues and americana flavorings mixed along with the harmonies of Bill Chambers, drive their sounds across the U.S. in a way only an artist like Audrey can do it - powerful and deliberate!! Give a listen!! by William Phillips, Limerick PA.

5 out of 5 stars the real deal.......2005-04-20

It's obvious from the first listen that audrey auld knows how to put a quality record together. Bringing in Australian guitar/dobro wiz, Bill Chambers, Mary Gauthier, and Keiran Kane among others, this is americana with a bit of twang (straight from australia) and full on sass. audrey knows how to craft a song and have you humming it all day.. From the title song to the sweet ending of Harmony, every tune shines.. No wonder Losing Faith tracked on the Americana chart last summer. One of my favorite albums of 2004.

5 out of 5 stars Don't miss out on Audrey.......2004-03-11

While her music, & her work with the legendary Bill Chambers (Kasey's dad) is well-known in their home country of Australia (she's an award winner there), Audrey is an unkown commodity in North America. Her two solo disc's are absolutely amazing. She's the definitive roots/country performer. Not a bad song to be found on both her of her releases. Here she also gets some help from Kieran Kane, Mary Gauthier, & Fred Eaglesmith, who is a huge supporter of this gem of an artist. Highly recomended.

5 out of 5 stars One of the better albums of the early days of gangsta rap.......2003-04-19

I bought this album (cassette tape) on a hunch back in the late 80's (or early 90's, can't remember exactly when), back when I was into gangsta rap. I was looking for new artists and took a gamble on this album. It ended up being one of my favorite albums of all. The words are witty and I really liked his rapping style. It's a meld of old school rapping and gangsta rap overtones. Kinda hard to describe if you've never heard the his music. His second album took a darker turn and tried to be too much of a gangsta rap bandwagon. It's a real departure from the first album--completely different. I think it's what killed his career--hopping on the gangsta bandwagon. You Can't Hold Me Back proved you don't have to cuss every other word to get your point across. Instead, he uses catchy words and phrases. I like all of the songs on this album. Each one is unique sounding and so unlike other rap. If you're lucky enough to find this album on CD grab it up! I saw it on a used CD web site and was fortunate enough to pick up both albums at once. It's not published anymore, so you're going to have to find it used. I have it in OGG format (compressed; like MP3) now, so I'll never lose the album again...
