Im Kittie Fan, even I like this CD (and the DVD) I think is a little more comercial and easier to hear, Im still thinking Lander sisters rules, if you are begining in the Speed metal you could begin with "Funeral For yesterday" and "in to the Darkness" (previous CD)

Great music, but DRM means no computer play.......2007-06-20

I loved the music on all of this, but somebody decided I shouldn't be able to play the disc on my computer or convert the disc for my mp3 player. I wouldn't mind so much if there was a notice of this restriction. To call this a compact disc (and it's not since it doesn't adhere to the standard) is false advertising and my only real knock about the release.

Get me one I can rip to mp3 and I'd make that a 5 star rating.

When you look at a band like Kittie, you think: "Well, they can't be all that bad. I mean, four decent-looking chicks trying to play heavy metal, a decent-yet-ironic band name, decent music, what could go wrong?" Well, let me tell you, almost everything can go wrong into purchasing a Kittie album. Everything that this band releases is garbage, but let me tell you, their latest release "Funeral for Yesterday," is BAD!!!!

What do I mean by "bad"? Is it the worst Kittie album yet? Oh, undeniably! Although I have no clue how anything could be as worse as "Spit," which was already a horrific album in its own way. You see, every Kittie album has a formula, and it is this: washed-up guitar + no bass + intolerable drumming + whiny vocals + laughable lyrics = the perfect Kittie album. FfY is no different from the trash that Kittie releases, and it needs to be sent off to Iraq where it can be used as a torture device. Really....

Well, you might be saying, "That's your opinion." Well, yeah, it is my opinion, but I think it is also a FACT that Kittie is the absolute worst band ever! They're competing against Limp Bizkit right now for the position of the "Worst Band Ever" award. I don't think I can name a band, besides Limp Bizkit, that could surpass the awesomely badness of this band. I hope this album is it for them! I hope that once this album falls off the charts (oh wait....) that this disgrace of a band will never walk the face of the earth again! There are so many things I can say about this band that would get me banned from the site, which is the only reason I'm not going to say them (I love reviewing here, besides the bagillion rules they have on here!).

I'm just going to stop here. There is nothing else I can say about this band. They suck, they're a disgrace to music itself, and I hope they rot for eternity in the underworld!

Kittie's best yet.......2007-05-31

Kittie formed in 1999, and their debut, "Spit," met with overall positive acclaim. But six years later, the Canadian all-female alt-metal quartet had gone through a great deal of problems. In 2005, when they parted ways with longtime label Artemis Records, and lost two of their band members (Jennifer Arroyo and Lisa Marx), many skeptics thought the end of Kittie was near. But the Lander sisters (Morgan and Mercedes - the two founders of the group) choose to think of it a different way - a new beginning. In 2006, Kittie emerged from the ashes with a new bassist (Trish Doan), a new lead guitarist (Tara Mcleod), new record label (their own label, X of Infamy Records), a new album (this year's very aptly titled "Funeral For Yesterday"), and, more-or-less, a new sound, too!

"Funeral For Yesterday" is doubtlessly Kittie's most mature, melodic, accessible, realized, confident-sounding, well-written, and polished release to date. "FFY" is living proof that Kittie's sound has changed dramatically since the days of "Spit." The new album boasts a crisp, clear, almost squeaky-clean production job, and a wealth of memorable songs, infectious hooks, and clean singing from Morgan. Morgan explores her singing voice so much that her growls and screams have been put on the back burner, and are only occasionally brought out to offset the melodic vocals. In fact, we don't even get a single growl until track four, "Slow Motion," and track seven, "Sweet Destruction," is an ultra melodic interlude track that even finds Morgan crooning things like "Life is good." As other reviewers have already pointed out, "Funeral" is slightly hindered because Morgan can sometimes come dangerously close to sounding like an Amy Lee (of Evanescence) clone, but those moments are few and far between.

And despite all of the melodic touches, these fourteen songs pack enough muscular, meaty rhythms, crunching, ofteh thrashy riffs, propulsive, leads, and even occasional blazing solos to make the album typically quite heavy. The final sound is very dynamic, diverse, well-balanced, and well-textured. "The Change" is remarkably heavy and hard-hitting, and "Last Goodbye" and "Witch Hunt" (the heaviest songs of the bunch) are also quite brutal. Elsewhere, tracks like the title track, "Breathe," and "Slow Motion" are bolstered by strong, crunchy guitars and humming bass lines, and "Never Again" and "This Too Shall Pass" evoke industrial metal - their churning riffs, and repetitive, lumbering rhythms wouldn't sound completely mismatched if they came off of a Prong or Ministry record. Also of note are the third track, "Everything That Could Have Been," which is highlighted by excellent singing and almost doomy riffs; the kind of spacey chorus and ripping, wailing solo of "Flower of Flesh and Blood"; and the hooky, galloping rhythm that bolsters "Around Your Heart."

Kittie remain an acquired taste for some listeners, and "Funeral For Yesterday" won't change your mind if you're not already a fan, but no matter what your opinion of them is, one should at least give them props for overcoming such adversity to release their best album to date. To conclude, "FFY" is a very satisfying, eminently memorable, and extremely solid album that gets better with repeat listens, and it is sure to become a favorite among fans and critics alike. Nicely done, girls.

Kittie growing up nicely.......2007-05-14

I've seen a few other reviews here that suggest kittie has lost the plot. This is simply not the case, the sound of this album is more mature, and a progression into sounding "more metal". They have still kept their heavyness, just check out "Flower of Flesh and Blood". This is definately a great album for a die hard Kittie fan. Good music usually comes from hard times.

Solid Material From M-O-B-B (Rating: 7 out of 10- -3.5 stars).......2007-05-29

Not sure what was going on with Mobb Deep at the time when this came out. Around this time this album came out, I was 16 and was basically loving everything that they were putting out, since I got into them with Prodigy's "H.N.I.C.". Especially with the whole ordeal with Jay-Z who took a few shots at them (i.e. "Takeover") I couldn't wait for them to respond.

Back when I was a teenager, I thought this was an excellent album, but when I listen to it today, I just see it as very good. If I recall correctly, the lead single was "Burn" featuring Big Noyd (BET might have played the video a total of two times), in which I thought the song was dope as hell. Their second single was more radio/pop friendly with "Hey Luv (Anything)" featuring 112 that was okay to be honest. Another great song was "Clap" where Havoc comes off stronger than ever. Infact he outshines Prodigy in a lot of the songs like on "My Gats Spitting" and "Get Away". Prodigy does come correct on some songs, but don't expect him to blow you out like he was on "The Infamous" or "Hell on Earth". He does drop a few dope verses, like on "Get At Me" and on "There I Go Again" as well as "I Won't Fall". But there were some that you expected more from him, like "Crawlin'" where he drops some weak lines dissing (if you want to call it that) Jay-Z.

Other inferior moments on this album include the song "Bounce" and "Live Foul" where both Havoc and Prodigy sound weak, making those songs skip material.

Overall, Havoc and Prodigy drop a very good LP back in late '01. It could have been better, but it's still good. You have some strong moments that outweigh the weak ones. If I were to review this 4 years ago, I would have given this a higher score. If you're a fan of Mobb Deep, this should be in your collection. Peace!

The cd INFAMY by Mobb Deep was an amazing cd. This cd had all good songs and none of them were bad. When I heard this cd it brought rap to a whole different level. When I hear the grimy lyrics that they have and the way they explain they're life you can almost picture your their with them. I give this cd 5 stars because it deserves a good rating for the hard work that they put into it, and because its a good cd to listen to. All the songs in this cd stand out for me. All the tracks have good lyrics and have good beats. Every new cd that I hear from Mobb Deep is always better than the last. They are always coming out with new hot tracks. You could say they're spitting fire.

Poor Audio Quality.......2006-08-17

I ordered this CD after hearing a broadcast of a live performance of the same opera. I was very disappointed to find that this particular recording is of a 1961 performance that seems not to have benefited from modern audio reprocessing. Instead, it sounds like one is listening to a far-away low-quality AM radio. Too bad because current technology makes it possible to do a much better job of restoring earlier materials.

Heroic battle!.......2006-05-10

With such strong Verdi voices in their prime it's no surprise the result is magnificent. I was especially impressed by Stella who on other recordings sounds rather matronly. As Lida her tone is more forward and the top is in pristine condition producing many exciting moments. Corelli is his usual heroic self displaying all the qualities that made him one of the most popular tenors of the 50s and 60s. My favourite performance however came from Bastianini who sounds more involved than usual and makes a strong yet thoughtful Rolando. The opera has many beautiful duets with these three and especially with the tenor and baritone and it was fantastic to hear them sing their hearts out. Maionica and the young Ferrin do justice to their minor parts and with the great Gavazzeni at the pit, this 1961 performance is easily recommended as a live alternative to the more romantic Philips recording.

No Rest for the Weary!.......1998-10-02

So I'm 28 and I've heard a lot of techno. In these the late 90's, things are starting to spiral away from what's been known as traditional "Dance" techno more than ever before. Innovative artists like Funki Porchini, Josh Wink and LTJ Bukem are consistantly pushing the envelope.

But what about that one day when you need a piece of music that's going to get you started a whole heap better than a hot shower and a cup a java? Time for Rest Assured's Treat Infamy. An instant hit with club ravers the past few years, this single gives us five distinct versions of the same tune, all wonderful in their own way, including a slower version for that special sex-filled mixed CD you've made for your lover.

So what's it like? Try to imagine the Chemical Brothers and Orbital having a really wonderful accident with the Verve's stolen Rolling Stones sample (remember Bittersweet Symphony? that 12 note loop you couldn't get out of your head?) on the busiest, hippest corner of your late 1990's cyber-metropolis. Synths and heavy beats dominate, but there's a wonderful building that resonates while beats get harder, and you actually have to LISTEN to pick out all the beautifully woven synths.

"I'm feeling bitter. I'm feeling sweet. Somehow my life just isn't complete." chants the dark male voice over the hard-hop soundscape. Kiddies, if this don't getcha happy, NOTHING is apt to.

84 was formed in melbourne in 2002, when michael falk, andrew worotniuk, ari dyball and darren seknow found they had common influences in delta and chicago blues (junior kimbrough, howling wolf), classic 70's punk (the stooges, the clash) & modernised blues-garage rock (blues explosion, the black keys, beasts of bourbon, drones). 84 has since fashioned a unique style of australian garage, mixed with elements of blues, soul and beat, and produced a catalogue of songs that remain unforgettably seductive, raw & timeless. After receiving airplay on independent and college radio in the us and canada (of songs from their debut ep 'use me'), 84 conducted its first overseas tour in 2006. The tour involved australian showcases at venues such as the avalon front in ontario, the bovine sex club in toronto and zaphod beeblebrox in ottawa. Whilst in the us 84 worked with producer dave chow (the dead kings, konquistador) at chowtown studios in detroit, laying down the foundations for their debut album. Tracking was completed in melbourne with dave mccluney (nick cave, dan kelly, kim salmon). After recently signing to warthog records, 84's debut album 'you, me and infamy' is due for a may 5th release. The band is conducting a massive tour during may and june to celebrate the release. This includes a coveted spot at the nxne music conference in toronto canada. Before a panic and outrage sweeps the nation and the band is again hounded out of the country, 84 must be witnessed and testified!

Gunga Din.......2002-04-04

Gunga Din and The Gunga Din are two different bands. Gunga Din did it first in Baltimore in the early 90's. Their first EP, Grip, was followed by their second self-titled album, Gunga Din, which launched their east coast tour in which they opened for Ice-T.

The band broke up, spawning Skypup, Moviegoer, and most notably, Nailbiter, lead singer Mike Raymond's latest venture. He had gone on to write, perform, and produce two independant CDs, Skid Plus Seven, and Cradle to Grave. His next band, Nailbiter, made an incredible CD called Six Degrees, then broke up.

If you want to hear music from the early 90's that predates the current heavy, grinding, raw sound currently popular, Gunga Din's second album is the way to go. Raymond has always predated music trends, and now continues to push the barriers in another solo CD due out this summer.

"an unacceptable color" contains some of the most imaginative electronic sounds ever captured. athens legend robert duckworth and mississippi native roddy schrock, performing as tog, take the improvisational powerbook route towards sonic infamy. new media artist robert duckworth has pursued a master of arts degree in composition, new media under mark trayle at the california institute of the arts. other teachers include tom erbe, wadada leo smith, morton subotnick, and james tenney. after becoming interested in drumset & percussion as a teenager, he studied music theory and music composition at the university of georgia with lewis nielson and leonard v. ball, jr., and japanese language and culture in the asian languaged department, eventually graduating with a bmus in composition. since graduation, he has studied at various seminars, workshops, and symposia around the world with such figures as pierre boulez, julio estrada, gerard pape, miller puckette, curtis roads, karlheinz stockhausen, david zicarelli, and others. his research has led him to tokyo as a special training composer for the japanese agency for cultural affairs. under the expert tutelage of his mentor takehito shimazu, duckworth researched the japanese contemporary music scene. during his stay in japan, his increasing interest in the computer as a real-time performance/ improv instrument lead him to co-found the duo tog with roddy schrock. the duo has concertized extensively in japan, with events in europe, and america as well. tog's fellow performers and collaborators are legion. Roddy Schrock began music composition studies with Mark Applebaum while still a student of sociology. He later relocated to Tokyo where he formed the laptop computer duo Tog with Robert Duckworth. His most recent performances have included the debut of his new work "Let's Examine the Issues", for computer, voice, and percussion at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as well as Paper Folding Piece, for amplified piano and electronics with Randy Nordschow at Strawberries and Violin: An afternoon of performance at the San Francisco MOMA. Schrock recently released the CD "Lexivexicon, a new collection of visceral electronic music" and completed a national Japanese tour with Tog, Hypo, Sawako, and others in December of 2002. Future plans include a new CD release from Tog and a European tour slated for the winter of 2003. Schrock's more formal compositional studies have included work with Yuji Takahashi, Chris Brown, Alvin Curran, and Fred Frith.
