Customer Reviews:
Solid golden-era Rawkus release.......2007-06-25
I'm amazed only two other people have written a review of this album. I bought it a few months ago and I remember all the good times. Solid beats and rhymes. A nice collab with OC and Ras Kass, and some impressive cyphers with a vicious beat from Will I Am. A classic song in The Manifesto where Kweli breaks down the composition of the culture. 8.35/10 for a good B.
This album holds it down!.......2006-03-10
One day about 6 years ago, I was listening to the local hip hop station, KS 107.5. After hearing Country Grammar, It Wasn't Me and Stan 5 times each that day, I stood up in my cubicle and said, to no one in particular, "This sucks!" A friend of mine walked over and asked me what I was talking about. I told him that I couldn't stand listening to the same old rap music over and over anymore. He handed me a two cd set, and told me to listen to it, and see if I didn't think that it was far better than what the radio was playing. That two CD set was this fantastic collection of underground hip hop, which served to introduce me to the artists that would come to be the standards for where I held hip hop to. The set has some great examples of lyricism from such luminaries as Mos Def, Jurassic 5, Talib Kweli, Q-Tip and Bahamadia, plus others who aren't as well known. The CD takes the form of a "live" open mic night, presided over by De La Soul, and their introductions, which are backed by the piano programming of 88 Keys, add to the feeling of the album. If you're interested in underground hip hop, this is a good place to start.
FRESH.......2005-08-19
For any hip hop fan needing a fresh breath or air, take this LP and breath. Very clean from start to finish & each MC holds it down nicely. Highly Recommended!

old gold.......2004-01-10
this is a pretty old compilation as of now, but i still listened to it last week. there are so many fantastic cats on this album. the first disc has body rock, one of my favorite rap songs of all time. tash, q-tip, mos def, its unbeatable. the freestyle track features thirstin howl and j-treds, and is wow, then you got wordsworth, punchline, and a lot of underground burners. the second disc is hosted by keith and menelik which is cool, but fewer strong tracks. cia is a stone cold classic, indelible mcs on track 12 is too good. get this when you get soundbombing 1
Great job Rawkus.......2003-07-25
When i first listened to this cd i was blown away it has great beats and the lyrics are off the hook! Rawkus did a great job making this cd they bring in a mix of underground and mainstream musicians. With the classic Rawkus crew Mos Def and Talib Kweli and DJ Hi Tek as Reflection Eternal, Skillz and Pharoahe Monch. They also throw in a of the hook freestyle. But by far the song that i enjoyed the most was A.L. Lyrics on the second disc, i have never heard of him before and he just came out with some of the best lyrics i have ever heard he flows to the beat and he makes great ryhmes that blew me away i have been tryin yo find more from him but i cant find a thing he has to come up with something else. Overall i highly recommend this album, its another hit from Rawkus the number one record lable in my mind
TALIB KWELI & DJ HI TEK (REFLECTION ETERNAL)
MOS DEF
PHAROAHE MONCH
SKILLZ

DJ Spinbad Came Off On This One.............2005-04-19
All folks need to purchase this CD. DJ Spinbad did a very good job. Hottest songs are: Skeme Team--Nuthin' You Can Do, Self Scientific--Return, Zion I--Boom Bip (with that hott backward track), Masta Ace--Acknowledge, LHM--We Will (member of Flipmode Squad) Tahir--Holiday (If you listen to the song, Truly Unique, one them sounds alot like Masta Ace.). Peace.
pure underground goodness.......2002-10-09
Mixtapes tend to be a hit and miss thing/ You have some songs you don't like, but it's usually just snippets, so it's cool. Then you have songs you love, but the snippet factor makes it less appealing. The album starts rightfully with a DJ Spinbad intro, he is a good, underrated DJ. Then it goes into a Killa Priest song, I tend to usually not like him, but out of the WU people he is easily the best. This song is nice, the beat thumps and the lyrics are saying something. Next it goes into this cat HOM, who drops a 16 bar Lyricist Lounge Promo. All I can say is this kid is rediculiously sick on the mic. The track is butter without him, he kills it. I hadn't heard of HOM before this, but I will be checking for him indeed. Scheme Team blesses next, the track is above avarage, and Gean Gray sounds lovely as always. There are simply too many songs on here to break them all down. But it has a lot of definite stand outs, there are some snoozers, but what can you expect? "Rise & Shine" have one of the most buttery songs I've ever heard, too bad it's only a small portion. Mystic's track is incredible, it should have been on her album. Something I found interesting about this release,
it doesn't have too many of the super abstract emcees usually thought of when you think "underground" it's a nice collection of skilled cats. Some you probably never heard of, with 30 tracks you'll find something here you love, probably most of it (I know I did) Marc Ecko is known for having one of the freshest clothing lines ever, and since day one of Ecko Unlimited he has combined urban music to complement his urban cloths. A perfect blend. I can't wait for Underground Airplay version 2.0
this is def. the stuff for my earzs.......2002-06-16
first of all this is fulla too many hot tracks that i am just lovin. rise & shine is on there also with probably my favorite cut that ive heard in years. thats hella hard to find around in the nw... i suggest you buy this cd
The 'Bomb'.......2002-05-23
I live in England and found this c.d in a small record shop. This is without doubt the best Hip-Hop Album I have ever listened to,every tune is spot on, my favourites are the tracks by Mystic,Hieroglyphics and Moss-Def but they all rock...Big time. Every single tune is a party song so without question this is a must have for any Hip-Hop fan.
