After a decade of recording, the no-nonsense, deep-voiced Adkins has blossomed recently with riproaring, crowd-pleasing fare like "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." Similar material turns up this time in the form of "Swing" (will it be Major League Baseball's answer to Hank Williams Jr.'s "All My Rowdy Friends Are Comin' Over Tonight"?) and the sing-along anthems "Ladies Love Country Boys" and "Fightin' Words." Beyond that, Adkins's honest, emotive blue-collar substance emerges on the thoughtful small-town chronicle "I Came Here to Live" and the sensual, contrite "Words Get in the Way." He similarly excels with "Ride," a hard-edged trucker tune; the anti-drug cautionary "High"; and "The Stubborn One," a poignant tale of the lifelong bond between a young man and his dying grandfather. In this day and age, it's a no-brainer that Adkins has to give the masses (and radio) the kinds of anthems they want. While Mary Weiss's name isn't familiar to the masses, her records with the Shangri-Las in the 1960s left an indelible mark on the cultural map. Let's just suppose for a moment that Mary Weiss had been recording for the last forty years between Remember (Walking in the Sand) and, to pick one song from Dangerous Game (the title track one of my least favorites on the CD, BTW), Nobody Knows, where would she rank in the collection of great women singers? Top Ten, easy. Probably Top Five. This is a terrific work -- the sixties, the eighties and a little 21st century punk on one disc. The rockers (current favorite Don't Come Back) are better than the slow ones, but downloaded or bought in CD form, this long-overdue return is way worth the money. And a big thumbs up to the band, Reigning Sound. Their urgent, hard-edged playing adds a lot to the Weiss vocals. Great stuff.

A friend of mine picked this up on vinyl along with The Pipettes EP. We played the Pipettes and liked it and agreed it was decent power pop with tight vocal harmonies in the Brill Building mold but with more modern themes to it and a slight sense of cheekiness. Then we put on the Mary Weiss album. At first we thought that the record was mastered at the wrong speed. Either that or Nico came back from the grave with a Queens accent. The songs were trying way to hard to capture the sound and feel of the early 60's that they are almost a parody. Maybe the production team responsible for this drivel should listen to the Pipettes and take some notes. But then again it's Norton records and they are just too cool for that.
Let's face facts, Mary Weiss was not a very good singer back then and she is not one now, plus she hasn't been on the business end of microphone since she sang back up on Aerosmith's version of "Remember (Walking In The Sand)" back in the 70's. Ronnie Spector has been continuously working for the past 30 plus years not that she has put out anything spectacular but she kept her chops up. When you do a comeback you should do something that no one expects not a pastiche of past glory. There is a reason why the whole "Girl Group Sound" died as quickly as it did, as great as some of the stuff was most of it was trite, meaningless and designed to have a short shelf life. I know I am in the minority here but I just had to say something.

The last surviving Shangri-la has released a new album! Gosh, it's like finding out that the Last Scion is writing an autobiography.

If you were male and anywhere within hailing distance of puberty when the Las were in their prime, then you knew what TOUGH looked like and - far, far, far more to the point - what it was supposed to sound like.

I grew up in Jersey, hard by the refineries along the Kill van Kul. It was a time of transition. The hoods were beginning to lose their dominance and Rock 'n' Roll was shifting away from its foundations. Surf music was on the rise; pop sounds were taking over the charts...the British Invasion was still over the horizon. But, girl groups were still hitting the charts.

Into this maelstrom, the Shangri-Las stepped with an appearance and sound that was like nothing else. Looking tough as nails and sounding sweet as wine, the Las were the girls you yearned to date but you knew you never would because they would always be dating someone older.

It didn't stop you loving them and living the mini-operas that were their songs.

Over the decades since they disbanded, it had been quiet. Fakes toured under the group name; three of the Las passed on; they were denied entry to the Rock and Roll hall of Fame - H*ll, that's a bigger honor than getting in these days.

Then, a note in the music press: Mary Weiss is recording an album.

I approached this album with great trepidation. 40 years after the fact, what could one hope and pray for, let alone expect? After all, The Who are a virtual parody of themselves and Roger has - d*mm*t to H*ll and back again - lost his voice. Ronnie Spector had that ghastly album and then followed it with that way-too-many-drinks-before-the-presentation speech at the Rock Hall Induction dinner. The Stooges? Well, that's the reason to have some hope, isn't it?

And so, I bought the album.

You know what? It's good...really, really good. Maybe it is even great. But, what was surprising for me was that my first reaction wasn't about Mary. It was, instead, about the astonishing band backing her and writing a good portion of the songs. It's the Reigning Sound and they bring a stripped down simplicity to these sounds that - while at odds with the Spectorish/Brill sound that Shadow Morton (A GENIUS!) used with the Las in the 60s - bring an underpinning of maturity and wisdom to Mary's presentation.

This is probably the best thing that could have occurred! While I would crawl through glass and whatever else to hear her do Las songs, the intimacy of this album's production is every bit as important as the singer and the band.

It's good to see and hear someone who clearly, without a doubt, looks back on their life and can smile about all the times and places and people that were experienced. Something else: the voice is better than ever!

Mary: you did great! Please don't wait another 40 years.

If just for the pleasure she provided with The Shangri-las, I really wanted to like this CD. It wasn't as if I hadn't been warned by some, but I went ahead anyhow. She still has the voice, just not the songs. Mediocre. After awhile, you begin to think thet you're listening to a community theatre soundtrack to Grease 2007. It's not her fault, it just that the Red Bird production team is long gone.

I haven't heard this yet, sorry. I will get around to it. I heard some snippets on an interview with Mary Weiss on NPR. My main interest here and now is in the Shangri-las recordings. First off, my musical tastes are typical 60s-70s, Animals, Yarbirds, Them, Stones, Spirit, Zombies, Steely Dan, Pink Floyd, Bonzos, Fugs, Zappa, Moodies, Beefheart, Velvets, Nico, Blondie, Alice Cooper. Pretty typical, but I have little conecpt that any music was actually made beyond 1980. Finding new music for me is like discovering the Blues Magoos, Electric Prunes, Downliners Sect, Kalidescope, Autosalvage. I am planning on discovering Iggy Pop soon. Yea. Maybe Van Halen, too. Not kidding. Anyway, I never really paid much attention to the 60s girl groups as individual artists. It never really mattered to me who sang Leader of the Pack, My Boy Friend's Back, or Solider Boy. Although the songs themselves are some of my favortite radio plays, just like much of the top 40 of 71-74. Know what I mean? It's the song. These weren't 'artists.' Funny thing happened on the way to discovering Mary Weiss the artist and icon. A few months before I heard Mary Weiss on NPR about this release, I had heard Walkin' in the Sand and was determined to hear more of this group. I'd heard of the Shangri-las but it didn't really mean anything to me. Gratefully that song has not been overplayed, so I was able to set out to discover something new. I bought the 20th Century CD and heard some really great stuff. Then I heard the Mary Weiss interview a couple months later. It all seemed so strange. She said she was inspired to make this CD by Iggy Pop who said 'life happens in 7 years cycles,' This concept of 7 year cycles is a completely mystical idea. Being drawn to such ideas myself, I had to hear more of the Shangri-las. I had already noticed something quite unusual in this music. They were not ordinary pop songs. There was something higher in them. I could not quite put my finger on it. So I got the outstanding Myrmidons of Melodrama CD. As I listend more and more, I discovered this consistent strain of mystical / Religious / psychological ideas in these songs. Take for example the concept of time in the them. The concept of time is approached in a circular or buddist way as opposed to linear time. The boy has gone away, but by Remembering Walking in the Sand, he becomes an eternal present. Linear time is made circular. This concept is again shown in the song What is Love, where the boy will "be there for the rest of time." There are miracles: boys. Lots of praying: Freudian wishful thinking. The song Train From Kanasas is about past time, pressing not so much on present time, but on future time, as the problem of the train coming into town is never resolved but again remains locked in an eternal present. Right Now and Not Later Baby, again an eternal present. The future is always a forever. This would appear more christian than mystical or buddist, but the idea that it's being sung by a girl on the threshold of consciousness, she seems limited as yet by her immaturity. It is sung by a girl in liminality - betwixt and between - where forever can exist because she is only now just begining to understand. She doesn't know so much as heaven does. But she naiviely knows more than she does and can only speak in these more christian terms at such a young age. She can Never Go Home, but it's only her way of understanding the theshold of consciousness that she has not fully crossed yet. The song Past Present and Future speaks for itself. The problem is not the future; it's approaching consciousness. Also, she's not so terribly affected by the realities of war yet, except that a few boys have 'gone overseas.' War isn't even mentoined, but we get the hint. They won't be boys for long, but she doesn't know it yet, and neither does America. These boys exist only in imagery now, and will forever. They are something more and other than what they really are. Out in The Streets, Mary is becoming conscious of an over-mothering tendency that won't allow the boy to live by is own nature or maybe even grow up. There is only one evil: interfering with someone else's own nature, individuality and future. He remains an image, something more than the real person. Also the songs while catchy and kitchy are not overly-melodic to become bubble gum or even ordinary pop. There is something extrordinary here. This music is the genuine proto-punk. It's not Lou Reed or Iggy Pop or Elvis or Frank Sinatra or Edgar Allan Poe (Reed's weird idea) or Baudilaire or Jesus. The one thing they all have in common is a mother. That mother is Mary Weiss. Hey, Mary, when's a memoir coming out? You got a lot to say. I have a movie part for you, leading lady as a psychologist. Don't be surpried if you hear from me in the future. Haw haw.

Live and Dangerous was a revelation for me; although I have always enjoyed Thin Lizzy's studio recordings, I never appreciated how powerful a band they were until hearing them live. The twin guitar attack led by Scott Gorham really shines on these tracks, and Phil Lynot's voice is in fine form. This album definitely ranks high on my list of the greatest live rock albums of all time. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is due to the poor sound quality of the CD, which was disappointing.

I had this album on vinyl as a teenager. Bought it for a trip down memory lane - not always a good idea. Unlike other youthful memories, this stands the test of time. Thin Lizzy were a great band - huge in the UK, not so in the US. This album shows them at their peak and what a talent Phil Lynott was - albeit a wasted one.

If you like "Boys are Back in Town" and want to try Thin Lizzy, this album is a better way to go than any Greatest Hits collection.

In a rash of live rock albums of the late '70s, this was one of the most fun. The selections and performances are excellent.

The Thin had been on tour in '76/'77 as opener for Queen during the 'News of the World' tour and had been pictured with Roger Taylor's huge Chinese gong ('Tie Your Mother Down') behind Downey's drums (note the photo on the cover of 'LAD'). Needless to say the first note on the subsequent Bad Reputation album was the same gong in G for 'Soldier of Fortune'. I really did see that coming!

As a cover band in Surf City we got into the Thin VERY EARLY in the rise of 'Boys Are Back' (itself a sort of theme song for us) and we did something from every Thin album from Jailbreak through Black Rose. Our favorite and best had to have been 'Dancin' in the Moonlight', in fact a very un-Thin-like song that they did live with the help of the sax player from the Graham Parsons Band, who were Thin's opening act on the '77/'78 tour from which LAD is taken. Memory recalls that of these two tours the earlier one was better, and some of LAD was reportedly taken from it. Once Garry Moore rejoined Thin Lizzy in '79 (for Black Rose and the dreadful Chinatown) the magic was gone. I wholeheartedly agree with other reviewers that THIS is the definitive live Thin Lizzy collection-- it is infinitely to be preferred to any later 'greatest hits' or 'live' compliations.

The original cassette/vinyl release was plagued by exquisitely bad mixing-- my copy sounded like the stereo effect was achieved only by someone panning the whole thing left-to-right ad infinitum (and ad nauseum; in headphones it was enough to make you dizzy and sick). The 'remastered' CD is supposedly better, albeit with probably too much studio 'fixing'. Listen to it for the songs and performances and don't expect too much stage-environment authenticity. If you have to have only ONE Thin Lizzy album, this is the one with their best done best.

'Is there anyone out there with a little Irish in them? Are there any of the ladies who'd like a little MORE Irish in them? Here's a tune called "Emerald".' --PL live.

This item is great to have on CD... I've been wearing it out on my old 8 Track player. I was afraid that it might break. This item brings back so many great memories. It is one of the best tracks that I have ever heard (start to finish)...

This was a combo heavy metal/red-neck band. Let's call it Southern Metal. Very good songs and a different approach to your cookie cutter hair bands of the 80's. Definitely worth a buy if you want to hear something not mainstream.

the album is alright... Their is a reason Dangerous Toys weren't as huge as other 80's metal bands, and its simple, their songs weren't great.


A fun listen for fans of late 80's/early 90's hard rock fans.

This 1989 debut album from this Texas sleaze metal outfit is chocked full of great vocals from Jason McMaster,catchy guitar riffs,and generally a collection of feel good tunes about getting drunk and having a good time.It fits quite nicely in my CD collection in the " D" column next to the Dirty Looks CD.I thought "Scared" was the best song on here along with the opener,"Teasin Pleasin" and "Queen of the Nile" but I liked all of them.The best way to describe Dangerous Toys is that it has a heavy Guns N Roses sound with a poppier edge to it.It's too bad they never made a good album after this one and Dangerous Toys would never get to this level again.If you want late 80's hard rock/metal without the spandex and the makeup,this debut album is highly recommended.Nothing fancy,just good old fashioned rock and roll.

This album is awesome!!! The music is excellent, but the singing is the best. Dangerous Toys' lead singer Jason McMaster basically sings about trying to get laid, getting drunk, and committing crimes. None of the lyrics on this album are showcase worthy displays of fine literature... but what great lyrics they are. I am not one to memorize songs, but I can pretty much sing along with the entire album while driving (which distinguishes DT from most other bands). Every song is full of awesome, cheesy, ridiculous, humorous, and/or flat-out memorable content:

- "hey man, I didn't know she was your wife"
- "man I really, really think, really think that I think"
- "even though I'm trouble, kids look up to me"
- "done unreal things, you wouldn't realize...living testament that crime pays"
- "queen of the Nile, love me like an earthquake" (?????)
- "a cloud of dust, a mighty hi-ho silver - 10 boots"
- "sorry bout dem bones in the muddy gutterrrrRRRRRRRRR.....yeahhhhhhhhh"
- "sportin a woody when yur +!++!*$ fly"

...and try using the following lyrics anywhere else:

This is one of my top ten cds of all time. I still throw it in the car radio once in a while. The Dangerous Toys were a sleazy, southern high energy true rock n roll band. They sure dont make albums like this anymore.

This cd also has my favorite album cover of all time, The clown in the attic pic. I always wanted to get that clown as a tattoo!

My all time fav track by D.Toys is on the cd..."Outlaw". High energy-fast lyrics LOVE-IT!
Also has the debut single "Teasin Pleasin" another kick axe song.
Other highlights in my eyes are "Here Comes Trouble", "Bones In The Gutter" and "Ten Boots". Pick up this cd, Its a clasSICK!

Michael Jackson was still going for pop hits with 1991's Dangerous, but he also front-loaded the album with six straight Teddy Riley-assisted cuts. This half-hour swoop of tense, aggressive, often angular funk was Jackson's most interesting music since Thriller, and still sounds, well, invincible on this remastered edition. After that, the record's uneven, but there's nothing embarrassing about it, either. "Gone Too Soon," a non-Jackson composition about teen AIDS casualty Ryan White, is a quiet statement (particularly played next to the choir-laden "Heal the World," "Keep the Faith," and "Will You Be There") showing that the star doesn't always have to get showy. The sprightly "Black or White" is explicitly pro-interracial romance, an angle its video didn't go near, and the urgent "Give In to Me" is almost scary. Scary good, that is. --Rickey Wright

If you're a young adult, these songs take you back to your childhood. Dangerous happened when there was a booming reinvention of musical sound and Michael kinged the charts. This cd is one of his bests.

When this cd came out in 1991, the public (I admit, me too) was givin' Michael a really hard time because of his very dramatic skin lighting (started between the Victory Tour and Bad Album), wierd choice of wardrobe (unlike the simple sequin jacket and white glove, he switches to ace bandages, boot buckles, and 99 cent store tattered wife-beaters - lol), wacky hairstyle (thats why the jherri curl was a disaster), his strong desire for lil' boys (why he bulit the Neverland Ranch of which got him into tons of trouble), and might I add the "Black and White" video that was chopped off in half after several complaints about him masterbating and breakin' windows and stuff on the street scene. Because of that, America did not give the Dangerous album a chance. Although I consider this album to be mediocre, but I admit, I love most of his fast-paced Teddy Riley penned cuts ("Jam", "In The Closet", "She Drives Me Wild", "Remember The Time", and "Can't Let Her Get Away"). The only number one pop song off the album, "Black and White" was good, but I admit that the video really sucked. The other tracks were either mediocre or sucked big time. The main flaw about this album is that its too filling. Its stuffed with many crappy cuts such as "Give In To Me" and the boring "Will You Be There." Off The Wall, Thriller, and Bad were only less than 50 minutes each. Dangerous exceeds the limit to about nearly 75 minutes long and the fillers prove the mediocricy. Not bad album, but this album and his future releases are too filling. Appearance does'nt make the music. Michael does and this showed a good effort, despite what was going on with him around 1991-93.

"Dangerous" was Michael Jackson's follow-up to 1987's "Bad", and much in music had changed from that time. Michael was right there to take it up a few notches. From driving dance pop, R&B, and even hard rock, Michael shows us his diverse talents. He shows us how he can attempt almost anything and make it work. The mastering touches of Quincy Jones are missed here, but Teddy Riley does a nice job of giving us the "New Jack" sound so evident in 1991-92. The album had another typical MJ run, as well, kicking out hits for nearly 2 years. The only factor that dogs down "Dangerous" would have to be the lack of consistency and the filler cuts, which didn't or barely existed on MJ's previous 3 releases.

Despite the success of Bad, it was hard not to view it as a bit of a letdown, since it presented a cleaner, colder, calculated version of Thriller -- something that delivered what it should on the surface, but wound up offering less in the long run. So, it was time for a change-up, something even a superstar as huge as Michael Jackson realized, so he left Quincy Jones behind, hired Guy mastermind Teddy Riley as the main producer, and worked with a variety of other producers, arrangers, and writers, most notably Bruce Swedien and Bill Bottrell. The end result of this is a much sharper, harder, riskier album than Bad, one that has its eyes on the street, even if its heart gets middle-class soft on "Heal the World." The shift in direction and change of collaborators has liberated Jackson, and he's written a set of songs that is considerably stronger than Bad, often approaching the consistency of Off the Wall and Thriller. If it is hardly as effervescent or joyous as either of those records, chalk it up to his suffocating stardom, which results in a set of songs without much real emotional center, either in their substance or performance. But, there's a lot to be said for professional craftsmanship at its peak, and Dangerous has plenty of that, not just on such fine singles as "In the Closet," "Remember the Time," or the blistering "Jam," but on album tracks like "Why You Wanna Trip on Me." No, it's not perfect -- it has a terrible cover, a couple of slow spots, and suffers from CD-era ailments of the early '90s, such as its overly long running time and its deadening Q Sound production, which sounds like somebody forgot to take the Surround Sound button off. Even so, Dangerous captures Jackson at a near-peak, delivering an album that would have ruled the pop charts surely and smoothly if it had arrived just a year earlier. But it didn't -- it arrived along with grunge, which changed the rules of the game nearly as much as Thriller itself. Consequently, it's the rare multi-platinum, number one album that qualifies as a nearly forgotten, underappreciated record. [In 2001, a remastered edition was released with a detailed booklet]

BIG L was an amazing MC he had good lyrics teaching you about street knowledge this album is a classic to me THE SOURCE magazine gave it 4 MIC'S a near classic but to me it is his lyrics are amazing BIG L had HARLEM on lock some of my favorite tracks on the album are MVP & STREET STRUCK & actually at the time a young JAY-Z got his first debut on DA GRAVEYARD amazing lyrics good beats what else could you want from a hip/hop album? please, don't hate on me for just giving this 3 stars.. i'm a huge d.i.t.c. fan and i got love for L (rest in peace). but this album isn't really that great. L is a ill lyricist far above your average, but the freestyle flow and lack of concept in many songs makes me kind of bored. also i don't think the beats are what they could be. you can't even compare them to the beats on the true ditc-classics: funky technician, word life, runaway slave, awakening, stunt blunts & hiphop etc.
and let's be real about it... this lp isn't even top 10 from 1995.
doe ore die, krs-one, dah shinin, livin proof, liquid swords, ob4cl, legal drug money, good fellas, labcabin california, 2000, soul food are all much better albums.

Harlem's own Big L was one of the most amazing non commercialized rappers in the game. He wasn't trying to be a star or a big named rapper, just a freestyle legend. And let me tell you, he can spit some shhhh off the top of his dome (if you get a chance look for an album called "Harlem's Greatest: A Freestyle History"). I first heard of this guy on the Music Choice Channel when the song "All Luv" by D.I.T.C. was being played one night. He didn't have the best verse in the song (outshinned by Lord Finesse) but he grabbed my attention.

Listening to this album, I understood where Big L's style came from and how he elevated it. "Put It On" was a dope single and a way to start off the album. My favorite song on the entire album would have to be "No Endz, No Skinz", a song about women out for a mans money. A lot of these songs through out the album he would talk about murder ("All Black") and living the inner city life ("Danger Zone"). Lyrically he was good to the point where you would hit the rewind button a few times ("I wouldn't give a chick 10 cents to put cheese on a whopper"). But at the same time he kinda overdid it to have people like "what the hell?" ("If I catch AIDS, I'ma start raping b*****s").

Guest appearances came in packs in two songs "8 Iz Enough" (I forgot what televison show that came from) and "Da Graveyard". In many songs there are a lot of no names at the time, with the exception of Lord Finesse on the latter song. But today you can find Killa Cam (Cam'ron) in the song "8 Iz Enough" and a younger Jay-Z in the song "Da Graveyard".

Production wise is cool. I know Diamond D and Showbiz did a few tracks on here. So you have that D.I.T.C flavor throughout this album.

Flaws are not that many. Some people might can't take the intensity of Big L's lyrics. But hey that was his style of rapping. And maybe "I Don't Understand It" and "Fed Up With The BS" might fall under skip material. Other than that this is one album that is a perfect album to your collection (and at the price listed, you CANNOT beat it!). It's sad he was taken away from us and hip hop due to an act of violence (the day after Valentines Day, 1999). There was reports that he was going to sign under Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella records before he was killed. I keep saying I'm going to buy "The Big Picture" but haven't gotten around to it. I always wondered what would happen if he ever blew up and became a big named artist here in 2006. Unfortunately that question will never be answered.

everyone gives off the wall & thriller props, but I remember more people owning this album than the other two. Also justin's futuresexlovesounds album was totally influenced by this album, I was reminded so much of dangerous at certain times while playing it. Timbaland can go on and on about how mj sucked after he left quincy, but he's just covering up the fact that they were also inspired by dangerous. Anyways this album has some of the most creative and deep work of mj's career and can be played from start to finish, and is a fusion of various musical styles.

Quite simply put, this may be the best dance/pop/r&b album ever recorded, as he effectively combined those three genres into one mind-blowing disc. All of what pop music has become today owes itself to this album. Does anyone realise the number of beats that Timbaland, Timberlake, Britney, etc. have lifted from this masterpiece? "Remember The Time" and "In the Closet" are as good or better than any song in this genre since the days of Marvin Gaye, even surpassing Michael's previous works. Unfortunately MJ's reputation took a huge hit during this time period, and for good reason I'll admit, but the sad thing is that this record is now ignored by many because of it. If you love this style of pop/r&b, buy this because of the music itself and don't ignore it because of the man's life choices. We have all done things we regret, but everything is magnified with MJ because he lives in the spotlight. Maybe he's guilty, maybe not, but the man has lived under a microscope his whole life. Give him a break at least until there is proof of his wrongdoings, because as a musician, he has done everything right on "Dangerous."

Michael Jackson's Dangerous album proves to be his best solo work ever, even better then previous works such as Bad and Thriller. The press generally ignores this album, and focuses on Jackson's early albums which is a shame. Fans all around the world need to listen to this masterpiece, with unforgetable and mind grabbing hits.

With over 30 million albums sold worldwide, Dangerous is one of the top 20 best selling albums ever. (Jackson has 3 entries) This is for good reason, as every song is pure quality and is much ahead of its time. Infact, this album still sounds fresh when you pop it in the CD player today. I being a teenager, could see many of my peers enjoying this cd, as its a combination of pop, rock, soul, r&b, and "jack-swing". It truly is a diverse collection and has so many different styles of music that its almost impossible to get sick of it.

The best tracks are: In The Closet, Remember The Time, Black Or White, Will You Be There, Give Into Me, and Dangerous. If you havent yet purchased Michael Jackson's Dangerous album, you must add it to your collection, as a vital piece in the pop music saga that Jackson himself defined.

Michael Jackson should have called this album "Bad" instead of the one that preceeded it. At least it would have lived up to its title. The only thing "Dangerous" about this album was the damage it ultimately ended up doing to his career. "Dangerous" is a nearly 80-minute glimpse into the eventual unwraveling of the Jackson phenomena. It's here we see the first cracks in the veneer.

I truly wanted to like this album, because despite his "eccentricities," I really believe that Michael Jackson is one of the most talented performers of all time. Just not worthy of the "King of Pop" title he gave himself, if this album is to be used as an argument in favor of that.

The lead-off single, "Black or White" was not entirely unlistenable, but the video that followed was the first sign that all was not well with Michael. Not only was it a nearly 20-minute video in the days when such clips were fading out of style, it featured Jackson smashing cars and grabbing his crotch almost incessantly before finally ending with his morphing into a black panther. It was most likely this video that hurt sales of the album, despite Michael's statement that he would edit the video.

But "Dangerous'" biggest problem is not the videos as much as the music itself. In retrospect, Jackson may be thinking that firing Quincy Jones might not have been the smartest career move. As good a producer as Terry Riley is, his work on this album does absolutely nothing to advance New Jack Swing. In fact, the only time when the album displays a spark of the old inspiration is "Jam."

"Dangerous" isn't the absolute worst album Michael Jackson has ever done (that title goes unequivocally to "Invincible"), but he's definitely working below his grade level. Sony Music must have been scratching their heads and saying to themselves, "What were we thinking? We give him a billion dollar contract, and this is what we get in return?"

Unless you absolutely have to have everything Jackson, skip this one.

I am a pinaist, and several of thses pieces find themselve in my repertoire, and by hearing them on this cd, one is able to truly appreciate the composition and performance of these songs, which are not very popular nowadays. A great collection that I highly recommend to all musicians and music lovers.

If you like light works for piano and orchestra, this is the BEST I have heard. With the popularity of movie themes in this genre, this CD will not disappoint you. There are some great undiscovered gems on this CD. Every pianist should have this to 'expand their horizons'. Simply the best!

I live in a very noisy dormatory and often have trouble falling asleep. I've found that this disc, with its relaxing pieces, is able to calm me enough that I can get a decent amount of rest each night.

I'm not saying the songs on here are boring, though. They are well-performed. Many of them were familiar to me before I first played this disc, others were not. I am very diverse in my musical tastes and appreciate this music. However, the relaxation value one gets from a CD like this one is much more than one could expect from a band like Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, The Police, or Crash Test Dummies to name a few.

Even if you don't live in a noisy dorm this is a good CD to relax to. It's also good dinner music and is perfect for when that special sweetie is in your car with you en route to a five star restaraunt. (Hopefully it comes on cassette so I can play it in my car, too!)

Richard Clayderman also has put out numerous other albums. One that I have been unable to find in CD but have on LP record is "A Romantic Christmas", which includes many great piano arrangments of popular Christmas songs including arguably the best version of "Silver Bells" I've ever heard, including all the ones with vocals that have passed through my ears over my lifetime.

Richard Clayderman first came to my attention in the early 1970's when I used to spend a lot of time in Europe on business. He has a very distinctive piano style when playing either classical or popular. His backup band for popular music, including excellent drums, tuba, violins and more, is very good.

This particular album, if you like classical music played with a flair, is excellent; so good, in fact, that I am buying additional copies for special people.

And, yes, I am well over the age of 13.

Let's just say that even if I really dislike Clayderman,I have never underated his pianistic talents.I borrowed this CD from a friend and was surprised that the pianist famous with performances of mundane pop songs is able to fit into the demands of some really serious classical masterpieces such as the Tchai 1 or the Rach 2.However,JUST AS I PREDICTED,Clayderman would not play these masterpieces in their entirety.For a serious classical music fan,excerpts would never be of much value.It would be really stupid to compare Clayderman's performance of the great concertos with the other 'greats' such as Cliburn,Zimerman or Argerich,but some passages in Clayderman's performance really seem cheesy to me.This is an album which might be an option for beginners of classical music.But a 'professional' classical music fan really needs much more than any performance of a work.

I am --------, and I have played Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1. An expressive work which requires great passions, Clayderman has often been too loud, breaking the melodious balance between the orchestra and the piano. I was tuned off already by the first few chords, which were struck too loudly. There also lacks a element of surprise and Russian animosity in this recording, which Jorge Bolet and Evgeny Kissin both capture in their recordings with Dutoit and Karajan, respectively.

While Richard Clayderman is not well known in the USA, his work is commonplace in South Africa and Europe. I enjoyed the original LP version of this CD as a 8 year old and through the wonders of e-commerce have been able to track the CD down. I loved his rendition of Beethoven's work so much that I used the music for the bridal march at my wedding.Definately worth the ten bucks if you're a Romantic Classic nut.

This 2-disc live performance is nothing more than the Doors during a rehearsal for the Aquarius Theatre (Hollywood, 1969). Without a doubt, this release is strictly FOR DIEHARD FANS ONLY. Having said that, the Doors put forth an electric performance of "Gloria" on Disc One. This version is one of the BEST ever recorded by the band! It completely smokes other live versions released in the past! You also get the benefit of some beautifully improvised vulgarities, which add to this version's jacked-up mojo!!

In addition, "I Will Never Be Untrue" is a live tune that never appeared on a studio release - it is a slow, bluesy number that is well-suited to Morrison's voice. "Build Me A Woman," another non-studio song, is, once again, pumped up with even more vulgarities - it has the feel of a band having fun while rehearsing, which is precisely the terrain this live release covers. It is NOT for the casual fan...Take it for what it is...

I am not sure if the previous reviewer was looking for a greatest hits type cd. This live session is for REAL fans only. They don't play a single hit. It was recorded the day after the other two Aquarius shows (with no audience). The band sounds loose and is in a good mood. It is Jim that definitely does not want to be there. He really just says what he feels and sticks it to the record company that is paying for this session (there is a track called "there are 1000's of dollars riding on this day"). It is very funny and I just love it. Again, they don't play any of their hits... so if that is what you are looking for look elsewhere. If you are a die-hard fan looking for a unique recording of one of your favorite bands, buy this cd. Very good sound quality as well.

Sadly, this rather expensive 2 CD set is a severe disappointment. It is more of an instrument tune-up session rather than a work of musical substance. Don't waste your money on this one !! If it were possible to give less than zero stars this one deserves a negative 5 ....

This is not for the casual fan, this is only for those of us who already own all official albums and more than a couple live bootlegs. This is the Doors, preety much rehearsing and a little bored at times, specially Jim. Is it tight? No. Does it rock? On a few moments it does. Am I happy I bought this? Yes; it is another missing link in discovering one of the greatest bands of all time, and one of the greatest talents in rock: jim morrison. I deducted one star, because it is a little pricey, and being now out of print, most likely will only continue to increase in price.

This doesn't do much for Jim Morrison's reputation as a poet that's for sure! This is like one step back for Jim. I'm not sure if this should have been released. These are blues and jazzy renditions of some released and un-released songs and some of these songs sound like the Doors had nothing to do one afternoon and decided to jam and let Jim ramble into a mike because that's exactly what he does. On top of that he is pretty well lit during most of these recordings. He sounds like he just stumbled into the studio from a long day at the bar, especially on "Build me a Woman". He is boisterous and he makes up lyrics as he goes along during the bluesy stuff, the words sometimes are absolutely laughable and they're hardly up to Jim Morrison standard. This definitely isn't poetry.

He revels in four-letter words and he delights in entertaining himself in "Mental Floss" as he goes through a less-than inspired scatter-brained monologue: "I'm tired of being a freaky musician, I want to be Napolean!" and "do you know women wear underpants? They do! How does a musician make the sound of a woman's underpants?" Meanwhile the band is playing free-form and are totally lost (Robby is playing slide licks which are going nowhere, and Ray is trying to come up with some solid chords to no avail) as they wait for Jim to get on with things. Continues "I wasn't doing a damn thing when I was standing there in front of a delicatessen and a bunch of rabbis and Indians came running up". This song is like the complete antithesis of the stanzas in "When the Music is Over" and "The End". It's an absolute embarrassment. During "Build me a Woman": "I don't know what I'm talking about and either do you. I'm a stupid m-f- and so are you! So take that little riddle and and stuff it up your a-!" and "this song makes me sick to my stomach and if it ever gets played you're all a bunch of dumb c-sckrs!" This almost sounds like a Jim Morrison impersonator, that's how off-the-wall it sounds. On Blue Sunday, Jim is so slow he sounds like he's falling asleep. I don't know how John Densmore sat through these sessions. Ray sings on "I'm your Doctor" and is quite vulgar: "you need a polish sausage". He also sings on "Close to You". "Car Hiss by my Window" ("Whiskey is like a woman-she's good when she's cheap") is not the same song which was recorded on LA Woman. "Gloria" is well done.

The quality of these recordings are fantastic and the songs are pretty tight (the instrumental parts). But most of the songs here are like the Doors getting caught doing mediocre to bad music. I'm sure some of their gigs were just like this if not worse. There's not much musically going on here but this will round out your Doors collection if you're a fan and Jim Morrison will give you an excellent laugh.
