Some artists take years between CDs, and some just keep spitting them out. Put Nasir Jones in the latter category, as his fourth album is his second of 1999. Judging by the title and the semi-apocalyptic tone of many of the tracks, Nas has millennium tension and then some, but his fears and prophecies are all stuck in the same old--and by now played out--ghetto melodramas that have become the leitmotif of hip-hop. Nearly every track concerns the life on the streets, the Game, the 'hood, the mayhem and murder, and Nas's muse and old stomping grounds, the QB Projects. Not that Nas doesn't have something to offer on any of the above topics. You can, through the often clumsy production, hear fiery glimpses of the young child-poet who burst on the scene in 1994 and was instantly heralded as the successor to Rakim. But as one might expect from a disc that arrives seven months after its predecessor, Nastradamus seems half thought out, with Nas conflicted between glorifying the thug life and trying desperately to issue a cautionary tale. As always, the best cut is when Nas joins forces with DJ Premier, who may be incapable of a bad beat. "Come Get Me" is the nearly perfect marriage of voice and rhythms, and like the equally solid "Some of Us Have Angels" (produced by Dame Grease), shows why Nas--even with his shortcomings and missteps--can never be slept on. Now if he would just take a break and find new inspiration. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars This is NOT a bad album.......2007-06-17

Attention true NaS fans, do not believe that this album is not good. Nastradamus could take on anything 50 has to offer. The bad hype you're hearing is mostly from people complaining that this wasn't another Illmatic. Well Nas isn't going to make another illmatic, that was a classic never to be matched by anyone. Nastradamus, while it is no classic like illmatic, sure as hell deserves more credit than it gets. If "You owe me" is you're problem than skip over it, the dude was just trying to make some sales. "You owe me" is, in my opinion, not really different from his new tracks produced by Will.I.Am, it appeals to a wider audience but he's no sellout, which is obvious if you listen to the whole album.

1 out of 5 stars Trash.......2007-06-10

First let me begin by saying that nas is a poet and he's words are the truth and im a huge fan of this nugga but nastradamus ? Was awfull even wid some good production he still had wack songs and lirycs... Almost ruin his career and his cred as a street mc wid songs like you owe me?Sounds like somethin 50 cent would do or some commercial rapper but not the nas i kno and apreciate as an true mc...Well for good nas albums ? get illmatic, it was writtin, lost tapes and even stillmatic. But his other albums are all garbage.Still nas can pretty much destroy these new up & coming "rappers" any day when he wants too.

5 out of 5 stars Not Best But Better Than Others.......2007-04-22

OK, this definitley wasn't one of Nas's greater albums, as a matter a fact it was his worst. But I think everyone can agree when I say though it wasn't his best it's still better than most of these stuff the rappers come out with now. Rappers like Yung Joc, Paull Wall, Mike Jones, Lil foneo and all the rest of those little corny rappers.

2 out of 5 stars NaS - NaStradamus.......2007-03-06

This is probably the worst hip hop album I've ever heard... 50's The Massacre is better than this garbage.

4 out of 5 stars this is still a great album.......2007-03-04

nastradamus is a very good album. true, lyrically this is one of nas' weakest but nas even on his worst day nas is still better than 90% of the lil flippers out there today. nas is definately a gifted mc. i bump this cd a lot. nas still comes with that creative flow and good lyricism. in this album he showed us he could flip a twista chi-town "sniper" type flow on "big girl", tell life through the eyes of a prison on "last words", tell us about the 2 sides of people on "some of us have angels" and get in depth with "god love us". the beats are on point too i must say. i know people say "nas went commercial on this one" with "you owe me" and "nastradamus" and they act like his ex-nemesis jay-z never crossed that line...pllllease. this album is hot and although it doesn't come close to the lyricism on illmatic and it was written, nas still delivers here. cop this album!

my personal favorites are:

-come get me
-last words
-some of us have angels
-family
-shoot em up

5 out of 5 stars ya don't know what ur talking about.......2003-07-25

u have the right idea...nas is the truth..he's a poet...one of his words carries more meaning than an entire track of most MCs. However, nas is as popular as Jay-Z or Eminem...nas holds the title...u would know that if you were actually truely into rap

5 out of 5 stars Nas Is "Supersweet".......2000-06-11

This is an awesome dance song. Nas' lyrics are not just good but great. He talks about more then just the regular money and sex of other rappers. He is one of the best rappers out there. He has so much versitality. He can go from thug banging hard core song to dance in one song, as he shows in this song. This is a catchy song also. He also may not be as known as rappers like Jay-Z and Eminem but that's because he doesn't have hits like Hard Knock Life and The Real Slim Shady. Nas is awesome. I not only reccomend the cd single but also Nastradamus, I Am, Illmatic, and It Was Written, which are Nas' four albums. Though Nas may not be as known as some rappers but he sure is better then some. I can't wait to buy his new cd. I might just go and get it tommorrow.

5 out of 5 stars The Best all around MC.......1999-11-20

Nas demonstrates what the majority of the rappers out there don't, Flexibility. He doesn't hit you with the same ol cars and money lyrics, he will give songs spiritual, political, songs about your family, relationships, etc. He always seems to try and touch something new and with his lyrical gift, it always seems to be a classic. JayZ it said to be the best out right now, but hasn't showed it because his songs are about the same thing, cash and jewelry. Nas is by far a more superior hip hop artist. The new Nastradamus album will definetly be the best in 99'

5 out of 5 stars The new single from Nas is tight, especialy the hook........1999-11-04

Nas has done it again with Nastradamus. With a bangin' James Brown sample and a tighly executed melodic hook, this song will be a hot jam for months to come. The B side "Shoot Em Up" is tight as well, with Nas rapping to the flow of a classic Christmas song.

5 out of 5 stars Nas is EN FUEGO!.......1999-11-04

Nas is the prophet! Put down those giddy rap albums and go get Nas new one. The illest lyrical rapper on this planet has done it again! "Nas is da vet, acknowledge the rep" -Nas. This guys lyrics are untouchable. What was once lost in the mainstreem of rap is now found. The lyrics, the lyrics, the lyrics! Open up your mind and feel the flow!

Nas on an exclusive Dirty Harry mix tape? Do you know what that means? Well if you're out there in Napoleon Dynamite land and have no clue, I'll fill you in, silly buns: The end result is that this is EASILY one of the year's top 5 mixtapes. (Off the top of my head the other ones would include Cooked Crack 3 by Juelz Santana, the God's Son Project featuring Nas & Jay Z, Rock Phenomenon by Vlad, and the entire J Love series.) Man, we've got Nas up on this CD lacing nasty freestyles over Rakim beats, Dr Dre beats, Lil'Jon beats. I mean, this right here is a downright classic. What are you waiting for? You need this in your collection!
