4 out of 5 stars Pretty good West Coast compilation.......2005-07-13

Although the title is "Escape From Death Row' and most of the artists on here just did "Escape" from Death Row records, the label has nothing to do with this album. Features a slew of rappers from the LBC & Former (Or still) Death Row Inmates(Daz, Kurupt, Lil C-Style, Crooked I (the future of west coast lyrics/rap if he ever gets to drop), Soopafly, Bad Azz, Tray Deee) and a few new cats whao are nothing special (One is decent - Hit). Packed full of west coast funk beats, mostly handled by Blaqthoven (8 of the 14 tracks, Soopafly does 3, and Tim Nitz, Arthur Brown, and Wayne-O all do 1 (I never heard of any but they do a good job). Of the 14 songs, 3 I skip, 1 is ok, and 10 are good. If you're a fan of that west coast LBC rap you'll like this album.

#1 - decent intro with singing by Costie
#2 - 8.5 (Kurupt, Q, Tray Deee)
#3 - 8.5 (Daz Dillinger & Cognac of Doggy's Angels -- great beat)
#4 - 8.5 (Daz Dillinger, Crooked I, Ric -- great beat)
#5 - 8.5 (Crooked I, Hit, Ric)
#6 - 9.5 (Crooked I)
#7 - 8 (Young Life, Lil C-Style, Hit)
#8 - 8 (Silva Satin, Ruff Dogg, Blaqthoven)
#9 - 8 (Bad Azz, Young Life, Hit, Blaqthoven)
#10 - 5 (Q & Young Life)
#11 - 9 (Soopafly & Hit -- nice beat)
#12 - 4 (Q, Ebony-E, Toni Hill)
#13 - 8.5 (Soopafly)
#14 - 5 (RBX & Silva Satin)

3 out of 5 stars ESCAPE FROM DEATH ROW!.......2003-07-29

The "Death Row" in the title is not the well-known record label that many of the rappers on this compilation had ironically just departed from but instead this album was conceived as a way to raise money to keep the youth off the streets.

Despite its honorable intentions and a real good line-up of stars which includes Daz, Kurupt, Tray Dee, Bad Azz, Soopafly, Crooked I, Lil' C-Style, and many others, this compilation does not quite live up to its expectations.

Crooked I, who is now billed as the future of Death Row Records, proves that he is worth that hype on two of the best tracks on this album, "Uh Oh" and "Do Your Thang". Crook comes very tight on two blazing tracks. Another featured guest who makes this release worth a listen is Daz Dillinger who flows on a smooth gangsta vibe with "Here We Go Now".

After these tracks, there really isn't much. Normally-dependable DPG stars like Soopafly, Kurupt, and Bad Azz take the predictable route on some rather tired tracks.

"Escape From Death Row" is an average compilation that has nothing to do with Death Row Records. The album really doesn't come as consitently as it should. A pretty good album, nonetheless.

5 out of 5 stars UH OH.......2003-04-13

1."LOW LIFE INTRO"-The intro is pretty good nothin special though

2."BACK ON THA SMASH"-This is a bangin ... song, my fav. rapper Kurupt rips it up, Tray Dee also brings heat to the table, and even Q does a nice job.

3."WHAT CHA GONNA DO"-This is the song I felt could have been the hit single for this album. The beat is a nice smooth gangsta'd out beat, with Daz and two members of Doggys Angels spittin nice gangsta lyrics.

4."HERE WE GO NOW"-This is a pretty good track, not as good as number three, but it is nice. Daz and Hit do very well together on this one, as well as Low Life stoppin by.

5."DO YOUR THANG"-I don't care what people say it does not sound dated. Hit, Crooked I, and Ric come through blazin on this joint.

6."UH OH"-Here it is the classic track that made me love Crooked I.All those doubting my man should check out this joint.

7."NOW THAT I'AM OLDER"-This has a bangin ... beat to it, and has my man Lil C Style on it. Hit and Young Life also come out good on this one.

8."WE'RE GONNA PARTY"-A nice track to just lay back and chill to, just lay down and pop this joint in.

9."ROLLIN WIT LOW LIFE"-Bad Azz stops by to drop some game on this one.

10."LIFE"-When I first heard this one I sciped it, but now I listen to it all the time, try it out.

11."HITTIN FO'"-The beat is bangin, and Hit rips this up. Also my man Soopafly lays his pimpness down for ya.

12."DANCE WIT ME"-All I can say is I like this joint, Q comes correct on this, I love the hook.

13."THEY MAY F_CK WIT U"-Soopafly lays down one of his best tracks for you on this one, this why this DPG cd really hits, DOGGPOUND.

14."FLIP SIDE"-We end with an ok track by RBX, and Silva Satin.
