Album Description

You may recall that Diogenes, the Greek Cynical philosopher, was said to travel the land by day and night holding a lit lantern, in search of an honest man. According to the legend he never found one.

It's this legend that led Polly Moller to name her third album after the ancient philosopher...it echoes many of the traumas she suffered while writing the songs on the album.

New sounds crop up everywhere on Diogenes. Polly took up the guitar as a songwriting tool after her flute-induced shoulder injury become too painful -- adding a tightness, accessibility, and radio-friendliness to several new songs: "Synaesthesia", "Cellular Hill", "John Mockingbird", and "Three Quarters (Nubanusit & Contoocook)". Polly also included the disturbingly traditional sound of the autoharp on two tracks -- the dark and driving "Stark Weather" and the atmospheric "Plaquemine Brulée".

"I'm known for my fascination with Celtic music," Polly admits. "There is one Celtic-inspired tune on Diogenes, called 'Go Home'. It's psycho Irish music. It starts out traditional and slowly gets more and more disturbed, as the song's main character wrestles with the misogynist message of the song."

Diogenes was recorded in Eugene, Oregon at Lucky Dog Studio, with new collaborator Jeff Davis as engineer.

Hip-hop has not seen the likes of this guy in a long time. He spits rhymes in a way that sends true chills up your back. He tells the truth, all the stuff you think about he says. I highly reccomend this album to anyone thirsting for true hip-hop. I'm talking the knowledge of Rakim and mixing it with the energy of Ice Cube. This cat is cold on the mic. I haven't seen range like he has in any rapper period. From hardcore to spoken word he drops true commentary that matters. Plus hype beats that keep your head nodding.

I ordered this album thinking it would be another run of the mill rap album, boy was I mistaken. This kid is nice, he does both spoken word and rap, and he offers us something fresh. The album has really phat beats, and lyrics that are on point. If you don't have this you're sleeping big time.

This album satisfy's every true hip-hoppers desire. Chikwe leaves no stone unturned as he discusses everything from police brutality to religious hatred. Clearly this album is a must have. I am amazed at it's range and depth and I'm sure you will be as well.
