4 out of 5 stars Interesting independent project from former Depeche Moder Alan Wilder, with associated artists..........2006-08-02

I first picked this up in the spring of 1992, after having heard on the radio that Alan Wilder, of Depeche Mode fame, had released an independent electronic-rock album.

Being a big Depeche Mode fan, I didn't exactly go for every track on this album. The radio-hyped "Faith Healer" sounds not just a little like some of the material on DM's "Music for the Masses", but the singing and lyrics were so distracting, I couldn't sink my teeth into it. "The Curse" also left me nonplussed; a sort of Depeche Mode 'rap' song that worked neither as Depeche Mode, nor as rap.

Still, in spite of these two tracks, I think the album is almost single-handedly rescued by "Edge to Life", a marvelous synth-rock piece that combines Wilder's synth smarts with terrific female vocals from Curve's Toni Halliday; the two collaborating deliciously on what is, for me anyway, the signature piece of the entire effort. If ever you wondered what would happen if Depeche Mode and Curve mixed it up, this is what it would sound like; and I think it sounds darned good!

Also notable were some of the offbeat and quirky pieces, like "Electro Blues for Bukka White" and "Freeze"; the latter being a thoroughly instrumental exploration, very similar in sound and style to the "Resource" track off of the soundtrack to the time-lapse documentary, "Koyaanisqatsi."

I recommend this disc to DM fans who might be looking to broaden their horizons a bit without stepping too far beyond familiar territory, and electronic and synth rock fans seeking a decidedly different listening experience, with very little bubblegum influence from the pop mainstream.

4 out of 5 stars drifting in darknesss.......2006-07-14

From the opening of the powerful cover of the Alex Harvey song "Faith Healer" to the end of the hypnotic instrumental "Freeze", this is an absolute classic. Alan Wilder (from Depeche Mode) gets help from an impressive guest list: techno posterboy Moby, Toni Halliday from Curve, Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb, and late great bluesman Bukka White

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant and timeless!.......2005-11-07

Alan Wilder is one of the music industry's most overlooked and under-appreciated musical artists. Not only does he possess great talent to write captivating music, he is also a master at the ar of engineering, mixing and producing. This combination of talents makes for some truely unique and mind-blowing recordings.

While Bloodline may not be the most recent or the most innovative of Alan's recordings, it is personally my favorite, not only because of it's great songs and diverse list of collaborators (such as Douglas McCarthy from Nitzer Ebb, Moby, and Toni Halliday from Curve), but also because of epic sentiment. Bloodline was released around the same time of Depeche Mode's Violator - of which Alan was still a member at the time - so you can find little elements of Violator in Bloodline too.

Alan has been busy lately, overseeing and re-mastering all of Depeche Mode's backlog CD's into 5.1 surround (yay!). He also has a new album coming out in July 2007 named 'subHuman'. Looking forward to it!!

At any rate, this review is about Recoil's Bloodline. If you've never heard it, and you like good electronic music...then you must own it! If you have the Bloodline recordings, and do not have a hard copy....why not buy *a new* one and show your support for one of the greatest recording artists of our time?

5 out of 5 stars perfect.......2005-10-25

Though I'm a great Recoil fan, I wasn't able to find this particular record in any shop of my town. Well, now that I have listened at it I can say that this is a real masterpiece.
Better than Unsound Methods and Liquid actually, it seems that Alan Wilder has a de-crescent attitude in his creativity. In "Bloodline" synth sounds are fresh and sound always-renew. Not so many speech on the songs and great compositions. 5 Stars.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome solo effort!.......2005-01-31

Bought this when first released and has always been a favorite, even in todays proggressive electronic world. Of the 2 must hear instrumentals, Tracks 3 & 7, "Defector" is a stand out, with it's dark aural depths, not to mention the "Hannibal Lector" samples........"closer please"..."closer". Of the tracks with vocals, "edge to life" with Toni Halliday has somewhat of a "Massive Attack" vibe with an "808 state" sound. Alan Wilder crafts one of the best 90's albums with various influences that bounced back to him after earlier infuencing the Electronic genre with Depeche Mode. A definite must have!

5 out of 5 stars 2nd Generation Bloodline.......2007-04-06

I remember hearing 'Stone Cold Hearted' on a local radio station after a Dj mentioned who was in the band and who their fathers are. I literally ran out and bought this Cd. This disc rocks from start to finish. Not a bad song on this Cd. Check out the tracks 'Calling Me Back,' with Warren Haynes trading licks with Joe Bonamassa, 'Since You're Gone', a southern rock tune with extended ending and outro. Other tracks to definitely listen to are 'Cell Block 7', 'So Far Away', 'Get Off Your Back', and 'Stone Cold Hearted.' Joe Bonamassa, Berry Oakley Jr, Waylon Krieger, Erin Davis and the rest of the band make this Cd a must have for fans of southern rock / blues rock.
After listening to this Cd for the umpteenth time one wonders what the sons of Miles Davis, Robbie Krieger (The Doors), and Berry Oakley (The Allman Brothers Band) could have accomplished with Joe Bonamassa and the rest of the band. Who knows, but they definitely made a good impression with their one and only release.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have.......2007-01-14

Quite simply, a must have for any fan of great rock music with a blues feel to it. Bonamassa smokes on this CD, and every other band member is so talented at what they do. The second you hear the opening riff of Stone Cold Hearted, you know that you made a great purchase. It's a shame they only stayed together for one album, they could have been one of rock's greatest. My favorite tracks are Stone Cold Hearted, Cell Block 7, Calling Me Back, but there is truly not a single bad or even decent track. They all smoke, and it's a smokin' album, but that's not suprising since Bonamassa's nickname is smokin' Joe Bonamassa. Just go out and buy the album.

5 out of 5 stars If you've ever wondered just how good Joe Bonamassa was as a teenager..........2006-06-08

...then wrap your ears around this CD! His guitar-work (even at the tender age of 14?) is absolutely awesome, and several of the tracks (including "Good Luck You're Having" and "Bad Girls") get stuck in your head (but only in the nicest way possible)!

5 out of 5 stars Southern rockers need to get this one ! .......2006-03-19

If you ever loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hachet, Jonny Winter, and other great guitar works with a southern edge than this is a must for you ! This one album alone has an entire fret ripping bass rocking kick that is sure to please. One of my all time favorites - still after many plays ! This one is sure to go down in history as one of the greatest southern rock cd's - This is a rare find now - like everyone else mine was just a buck ! ....and who said, " a dollar doesn't buy much " , this one is worth every dollar spent ! Guitarists and enthusiasts will cherish every note !

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This is a MUST-Have for guitar players...........2005-08-31

Take it from the well-written baberufus review Joe smokes!!!
As said before, Joe blows all the SRV wanna-be's away. It's a shame that the general public still are not aware of him. This DVD shows his talent in a great performance. There is a depth to his musicianship belying his youth--but he's been playing smokin' guitar since he was a child.
My son caught him at a club in Dallas (Trees) and even though there were only 40 or 50 people there, Joe gave them the same kind of show that's on this DVD--killer...
After the show, he took time to talk to my son and was very gracious about his great talent. Not just a guitar slinger, Joe's a fine singer too. This is money well spent, true talent.

5 out of 5 stars WHERE HAVE I BEEN THE LAST FOUR YEARS????.......2005-08-26

I don't exactly consider myself an ostrich with my head in the sand, but somehow I never discovered Joe B. until two weeks ago. Here I've been sitting around all this time waiting for (and then complaining about) new albums by Kenny Wayne S., Jonny Lang, and the like, and then here's this guy who just blows all those guys out of the water sitting right in front of my nose! Amazon even kept recommending him to me with their great little "recommender" that pops up when you get on their website, but I've been ignoring all that like a fool. Then two weeks ago I heard a DJ announce a song by Joe Bonamassa, and the rest is a short history of two weeks!

OK, enough griping about my mistakes--THIS GUY IS INCREDIBLE. He is every guitar player I've been into all rolled up into one, yet he's his own man at the same time. THIS CD/DVD BOX SET IS WORTH TWICE THE PRICE. I thought the DVD might be one, maybe two songs like some of those goofy DVD "singles" that come extra with a CD. Dude, the DVD is almost two hours long, and the music SMOKES! The sound isn't DTS 5.1, and you'll have to turn up the volume on your stereo a little higher than when playing a DTS or Dolby 5.1 concert DVD, but the sound is still very good.

This guy has got it all--amazing, shredding guitar chops, blues feel galore, and a great voice. Don't stay in the dark like I have for the past four years--buy this package, along with all his other CD's and other DVD. You won't regret it!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars A night of Blues.......2005-01-10

This is a good cd from Blues Guitar player Joe Bonamassa, a young man that has a sound you would think was comeing from someone the age of Clapton, any one that is into the blues that comes from guys like Eric Clapton Robin Trower or Stevie Ray Vaughan, should enjoy what Joe is playing ,the DVD that come's with this is also Great not the same music as the cd, Joe is playing a small club,..with Ladys Danceing on Stage!

5 out of 5 stars Two of his best, a great match of artist & producers..........2007-04-22

After a long and successful association with Capitol Records staff producer, Al DeLory, Glen Campbell recorded his first of two albums with rock writer/producers Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. The first effort, Rhinestone Cowboy was a remarkably strong album producing the 39 year old veteran's first number one Billboard Hot 100 single with the title track in September 1975. The second single, "Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.)" also reached the ten top on the Hot 100. The rest of the tracks were well chosen by Campbell and the producers. I had not heard the album in many years until I bought this CD, and I was surprised that other songs were not issued as singles. Lambert and Potter were quite a force in the 1970's. They either wrote and/or produced hits for The Righteous Brothers, The Four Tops, and Cass Elliot. Lambert would go on to do the same in the future for Player ("Baby Come Back"), The Commodores ("Nightshift"), Starship, Natalie Cole, and Justin Hayward.

Of course, I am in no way diminishing the contribution of the artist. Glen Campbell is one of the finest guitarists of his generation. He played lead in some of the recordings of Frank Sinatra, The Champs, and The Beach Boys as well as countless others. As good as he is as a guitarist, he was even better as a vocalist. The great Brian Wilson personally selected Campbell as his replacement in the touring version of the Beach Boys.

The second album paired with Rhinestone Cowboy, Bloodline, was unfamiliar to me until my purchase of this CD. It is once again, with Lambert and Potter, and it does not disappoint. While it did not share the same degree of commercial success, it features ten well crafted songs from various writers including Jimmy Webb to whom Campbell owed much of his early chart success.

If you like Glen Campbell, you'll really enjoy this collection. The CD is from a fantastic Australian reissue label, Raven. Not only do they present the orginial albums in great sound, they also include bonus tracks on most of their reissues. This one includes three.

5 out of 5 stars At Last! Praise Be!.......2003-05-12

Why, why, why did it take so long to offer
the RHINESTONE COWBOY album on CD? Why? Why? Why?
One of the best albums of the era, with Campbell in top form--
We've been playing this over and over since it arrived from
Amazon. Many of the cuts are available on other
disks, but this album, with these songs in exactly the right order, is a classic. I love it. My husband loves it. I almost wept with happiness the first time I heard it again after all these years. And BLOODLINE is a great runner up.

5 out of 5 stars It's been a long time coming.......2002-08-11

Between 1967 and 1977, Glen Campbell's most successful period, Capitol Records cashed in on the singer. Given this, Capitol does a lousy job making Campbell's back catalogue available on CD again. Proof Points? The best career retrospective on the market is without doubt not Capitol's "Essential Vol.1-3", but Razor& Tie's double CD "Collection". In 1999, it was not Capitol which re-issued Campbell's masterpiece with Jim Webb compositions, "Reunion", but the Australian label Raven. And now, in 2002, it's up to Raven again to reissue two Campbell albums from the mid-70s on one CD: "Rhinestone Cowboy" (1975), Campbell's most successful album, and "Bloodline" (1976), both produced by Lambert & Potter.
At last, Campbell fans old and new can enjoy this great music again. Campbell was and always will be popular for blending country and pop music and on these two albums one can tell why this is so. Both albums contain songs that rank among the best Campbell has ever recorded: The sparse arrangement of Randy Newman's "Marie" on "Rhinestone Cowboy" has as much emotional strength as everything on "Reunion"; "Comeback" and "We're Over" are almost equally strong. The same holds true for the material on "Bloodline": "Christiaan No", a Webb song, has been available elsewhere but it's good to hear the song together with other great songs like "Lay me down (roll me out to sea), written by "Rhinestone Cowboy" author Larry Weiss, the title track "Bloodline" or the lovely "San Francisco is a lonely town". This is great stuff - enjoy it.
And as for Capitol? There is still a lot of material to re-issue, e.g. the great "Try a Little Kindness" album" or "Houston"(the title song of which is a bonus track on the reviewed CD. Come on, guys, do us a favor, for a change.

I've liked Daniel Licht's work in the past. He worked with Christopher Young on many occasions. His work is obviously greatly influenced by Mr. Young. It seems he would be an obvious choice to score a HELLRAISER film. However, his score just seems to imitate what Young has already brought to the table. It's nicely composed, just too darn close to the original music (which also makes an adapted appearance). If you're really interested in the music for HELLRAISER, stick with the original or even HELLBOUND by Christopher Young. If you are interested in Daniel Licht, check out BAD MOON and THINNER. This score is for Licht or HELLRAISER completists only.

Product Description

The stunning new album from one of Australia's most explosive, most innovative and most successful independent live bands - Fruit. "Burn" is Fruit's most sophisticated work to date and demonstrates a brilliant collaboration between Fruit and Philadelphia-based Grammy-nominated producer/engineer David Ivory. Ivory and Fruit's vision for the album has been to harness and develop the signature sound that is Fruit; to cultivate the complementary writing styles of the three lead vocalists and to 'sting' the listener with their seamless sense of harmony and dynamic musicality.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Amazing, world-positive music.......2005-09-29

Fruit is a trio of amazingly talented singer-songwriters from Adelaide, Australia. Two of the women wield guitars, and the third plays just about every kind of wind instrument you can imagine. Like most great bands, they defy musical categorization. You'll just have to listen to the sound clips to get an idea.
"Burn" is in some ways a greatest hits CD. Some of the songs are new, but many have appeared on earlier albums. This album was recorded and produced in a state of the art studio not available to many independent bands, and the resulting tracks are the fulfillment of the band's vision for the songs.
Go to a Fruit concert if you can. Their songs and their lives brim with an infectious positive energy. If you're looking for great musicians with with great mesages and great feeling, you've found them.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Yeah, it's good but different.......2007-04-17

They chose 9 great songs (and an "inspired by Slayer" original composition), highlighting completely different styles that Slayer has gone through over the years, from Die by the Sword (perhaps the worst song on this album, but at least as good as the original) to Dead Skin Mask (as disturbing and enjoyable as the original). The new song, inspired by Slayer, would actually probably be a great song to hear be performed by the band (Amazon lists it as "Windless Death" and "Mindless Death", it is actually the latter).

Some of the tracks do not work out so well, okay, they are bad (postmortem, south of heaven, die by the sword), but the album is well worth having anyways: the stuff is eery and lends itself extremely well to bowed string playing. Expendable Youth and War Ensemble sound absolutely creepy, though some of the tempo changes that sound great on guitar leave you kind of wanting them to change the song around to fit a more classical sounding composition.

This is what Dracula would have been bumping back in the 1500s if he had a CD player.

4 out of 5 stars SLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?.......2007-03-09

Different but still very cool. It's a must have for a true slayer fan.

3 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2005-01-07

As a Slayer fan seeing this CD for the first time, my first thought was that this was a long overdue idea. I wondered at the trouble of translating the sometimes repetitive nature of metal riffing to bowed strings, but otherwise it seems a rather natural transition. So, with much excitement I purchased it and slapped it into my CD player at the first opportunity. This excitement quickly changed to puzzlement as I listened to what turned out to be an unsatisfying realization of the idea.

There are ten tracks on this CD, all but one being surprisingly faithful covers of the Slayer versions (the one original composition being very much in the style of Slayer). While every rendition had its moments that worked just right, the rest of the time it seemed confused, lost and simply not going anywhere. Not to mention sometimes slightly out-of-tune (I suppose what works with a pair of heavily distorted guitars doesn't necessarily work with four acoustic stringed instruments). Frankly, the repetitious metal riffage during the verse parts turned out to be just as much of a problem that I suspected they might be. This was not at all helped by the violin following Araya's vocal lines. Altogether, it left me wishing they had done a bit more rearranging, perhaps cutting the number of verse repetitions.

There were a few standouts, the foremost being "Die By the Sword", which somehow worked all the way through better than any of the others. Other notable tracks include "Mindless Death" (the original composition) and "Mandatory Suicide". I had high hopes for "Dead Skin Mask", as well, but that one didn't quite work as well - probably in part due to the lightly distorted electric cello, which seemed out of place amongst the more natural sounding instruments.

All in all, it seemed an honest, but underdeveloped effort. Perhaps with a bit of arranging or with a group larger than a quartet, this would have been perfect. As it is, I must admit that I will be listening to it again. Maybe as I listen to it longer I'll warm up to it. As it stands, I agree with the previous reviewer in that it is probably a must for any die-hard Slayer fan, but don't expect perfection.

4 out of 5 stars Joe Bonamassa Does Not Play On This Album.......2006-10-03

Ordinarily I don't like reader reviews where they review what the CD isn't instead of what it is. But I made the mistake of buying this when I was looking for a different band with the same name, and I hope to help others avoid making the same mistake.

Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa was in a band called Bloodline as a teenager that made one CD for EMI. The CD was just called "Bloodline". It came out in 1994. Clever me, I found out about this 1993 CD on a small label and thought I might have stumbled across an even earlier Bonamassa artifact. Then, I located an old interview with Bonamassa on the Internet where the interviewer incorrectly sited "Can't Rest On The Times" as the name of that CD by Bonamassa's band. Only after scoring a copy of "Can't Rest On The Times" did I learn that this "Bloodline" is a completely different band that sounds nothing at all like the one I thought I was getting.

I gave this 4 stars because I don't want to penalize the band or it's fans just because this isn't my thing. I'd describe this music as sort of thrashing punk rock with a strong rap influence. I don't much care for it and I will be selling my copy, but it's entirely possible that fans of the genre might think this is great stuff. More power to them.

For the record, the band consists of: Bruce Fisher - Guitar: Chris Lampman - Bass: Joe Gerber - Guitar: Bill Boulger - Vocals: and Chris Santerre - Drums.

The songs are: Winner Take All, Waiting Game, Second Chance, Crusade, Witness, Politics of Fear, Blackout, The Figurehead, The Fall, Can't Rest on the Times.

By the way, an interesting note about the other band Bloodline - in addition to Bonamassa (who is billed as "Smokin' Joe Bonamassa"), they also have several other band members who are the sons of famous musicians. The drummer is Erin Davis, son of Miles. Waylon Krieger is the son of Robby Krieger of the Doors. And Berry Oakley Jr's father was a founding member of the Allman Brothers' band.

This album has a fairly middle of the road metal sound, with In Flames type vocals and similar sort of melodic sound, nothing especially new, but good heavy stuff, the intro instrumental track 1 is very good, and I like the first six tracks best, the album has a consistant sound so if you like one track all should appeal to you.
