Surprise of The Year!!!!!.......2001-12-24
The first notable thing is that Greg Street says NOTHING on the entire album!! This is hopefully revolutionary and I hope that other DJ's releasing albums would refrain from talking on their albums also (See DJ Clue). It also shows the respect he has for the artists. The artists in return, show their respect by lending him some very good tracks. Only about 4 of the songs are garbage. This is also a strictly Dirty South oriented album complete with chants, country slang, and mostly club or riding beats.
The artists that show up are only from the South. Field Mob (one of the refreshing new groups out of GA), Cee-Lo, Mystikal, Jermaine Dupri, Pastor Troy, Erick Sermon ( lives in the South), Jazze Pha, Baby for CMR, Eightball, Trick Daddy, Ludacris, Trina, Outkast, UGK, Scarface, Too Short etc. etc. From that list of rappers you can tell that Greg Street is not small time. I could only guess that these are some of the rappers that have been on his show but anyhow it is almost impossible for this to be garbage considering the talent involved.
Almost every song is bangin and there are zero mainstream commercial sounding tracks. " I Thought you listed Baby from CMR?!?!?!" I did and his track really something different from usual CMR Baby actually stays on beat and the beat is a good one. Ludacris adds another one of his signature beat box freestyles and Eightball & Erick Sermon add some freestyles as well and all three are some tight verses with bumping beats. Scarfaces Street Rage is also a tight track rounding out the list of 'good' tracks.
There are suprisingly a number of classic songs on here starting with the Field Mob/Cee-Lo collaboration All I Know. They all provide a soulful performance on this hymn like song. The remix of Outkast's Gangsta Hits is in contention with best song on the album. The beat perfectly matches the lyrics and his 12 times better than the original which appeared on Stankonia. Other classics include We Ready by Pastor Troy, Trick Daddy's They Dont Live That Long and AX with his 6 O'Clock anthem which people from Atlanta will be VERY familiar with!!!
All in All this is a worthwhile dirty south compilation. The reasons have already been explained. Pick it up.
