Album Description
Ohio's five-piece bring an original twist to their favorite formula. Tying in a pop sensibility with infectious melodies, style, and flow, they can back up their emotion-fueled rock with their passionate, heartfelt lyrics and high octane live show. Produced by Matt Squire (Thrice, Panic! At The Disco, TREOS).

representing LIMA OHIO.......2006-11-21
i know these guys, they are all good people just trying to make it. this c.d. does a good job at capturing their live feeling, full of sing-a-long styled lyrics that you'll find yourself tapping your feet to. steal your parents money and buy it as soon as possible. also "until we get caught" is a good preview to what you'll find on "this is a stick up...dont make it murder".
you can also check them out on myspace.

Almost As Good As It Gets For Pop Punk.......2006-10-01
Ever since the day I picked up "This Is A Stickup... Don't Make It A Murder" nearly six months ago, it has been in constant rotation from my cd collection. Now of course Hit The Lights are not innovating the pop-punk sound that is already known and has been established for quite a few years now, but along with a handful of other bands (My American Heart, The Audition, Paramore), they are helping to call attention back to a genre that seems to have been losing relevance lately. I guarantee if you have been looking for an album chock full of sing-a-long style choruses, catchy melodies and plenty of upbeat, rocking songs, then you should rush yourself to your local record store and get your hands on a copy of this album.
The New Found Glory comparisons are kind of accurate (although there's not much that would link the two bands together in overall sound), but it doesn't necessarily mean you must be a NFG fan to enjoy this record. On the contrary, Hit The Lights do an adequate job of making it their own duty to convert fans. Beginning with "Call Out (You Are The Dishes)" the power chords ring and the band kicks into full throttle. Most pop-punk bands in today's time seem to be taking on this "semi-dark" lyrical style (things dealing with subtle violence or darker metaphors for heartbreak and betrayal), and Hit The Lights is no different, although they do a nice job of keeping it more positive than negative. If songs about Girls and breakups isn't for you, don't bother giving this disc a spin. The orchestration perfectly fits the words, as most songs are upbeat and come complete with great drumming and guitar playing. Not overly spectacular, but impressive none-the-less. The leads on "Three on Nine" are simple yet effective, and the riffing on "Until We Get Caught" is very enjoyable. "These Backs Are Made For Stabbing" and "Talk Us Down" are probably the album's two best tracks.
My biggest complaint about the record though is that the I-tunes track, "Stick Up" was not included on the album. It is by far better than any song found on the actual cd (hard to believe about a b-side huh?), and I'm still quite puzzled as to why it didn't make it onto the final product. If you can find it, I highly recommend downloading that track. I'm pretty sure you will not be disappointed by it, especially if you like what this disc has to offer.
Overall what the album lacks in diversity, it makes up for with great song writing. It's not perfect, and there may be a couple filler songs, but this is still a highly enjoyable release. You'd be far removed to find many better pop-punk albums that were released in 2006 than "This Is A Stick Up... Don't Make It A Murder". Fans of My American Heart, The Audition, Paramore or anything similar would definitely do well to look into these guys. They've haven't tread down a new path just yet, but given the opportunity to grow, I'm confident these guys could become one of the premier bands in their respected genre.
Short on substance, but enjoyable.......2006-07-09
So, in case you haven't noticed, HTL is probably going to be the next fall out boy/new found glory pop-punk megahit. Their music is littered with hooks, injected with energy waiting to be danced/moshed to by pop-punkers everywhere. It would seem that with the ammount of new school punkers "maturing", a new band would steer clear of a somewhat generic sound, but HTL don't seem to care, because nothing about their debut screams "original" or "mature". I agree with the reviewer who compaired 'stick up' to 'sticks and stones'. The lead singer sounds ALOT like nfg's jordan pundik, and 'these backs were made for stabbing', along with a bunch of other tracks, sound like they were ripped from the nfg playbook. So, I guess if you enjoyed "Take this to your grave", "Sticks and stones" or ever "Chroma", you'll for sure like "stick up". If not, don't even bother, cuz' there's nothing here for a non pop-punk fan
my favorite, maybe yours too.......2006-06-03
Hit The Lights is a fun band that makes a great live act full of energy and excitement. Ever since my friend introduced me to their EP "Until we Get Caught" i've been hooked, and have considered them my favorite band since. my favorite tracks on the cd include:
-These Backs Are Made for Stabbing: i love the title and the song just the same
-Bodybag: interesting lyrics none the less, but a very good, catchy song
-Save Your Breath: my second favorite track, very upbeat
-Sincerely Yours: incredibly catchy and fun to listen to. my favorite track on the album
-One Hundred Times: slower than most of the songs on the album, but still a great song
-Until We Get Caught: great lyrics
the only problem people might have with this album is that some of the sngs sound similar, but i would give i a try. It's catchy and fun, and perfect for summer.
Fun, but...silly..........2006-05-28
Hit The Lights is fun pop punk. It's not going to break any barriers, and it won't be in your CD player for a while, but it's a fun listen once in a while. As my girlfriend would say, it's 'cute'.
The one problem I had was with some of the lyrics. Especially the song 'Bodybag', the lyrics 'you're gonna need a bodybag, I'll break bones you never knew you had", etc. just sound so damn silly coming from someone who sounds like he spends a lot of time getting stuffed into lockers at his local junior college. He just sounds too...what's the word...'girly', I guess.
Still, it's a fun record, and worth listening to a few times.

Album Description
"Stick-Up!" stands out as one of the hardest-swinging albums that Bobby Hutcherson made for Blue Note, due in no small part to the presence of Billy Higgins on drums. This 1966 recording, which also features Joe Henderson, is the first recorded meeting of the vibist and pianist McCoy Tyner.
Customer Reviews:
An album of "transformation" and "transportation"!.......2001-04-29
This album is an underrated classic. "Una Muy Bonita" is the ultimate in cool swank: it swaggers out of your speakers and transforms your soul through its rhythmic beat and fun feel. "Summer Nights" really struck me as well: this pituresque tune can transport you to a quiet moment when you've drawn away from the crowd for a moment to have a quick smoke by yourself...you can hear the rain falling at night and the cocktail party going on in the background all at once. "Stick-Up" made me a fan of Bobby Hutcherson. You can waste your time borrowing this from the library to see if you'll like it, but falling for this album is only a matter of time.
Good vibes.......2001-01-27
Bobby has it all together on this 1966 release. His vibes ring like bells, his band is tight, and the compositions are stellar. This is great mainstream Blue Note stuff, but the work is challenging and it makes for rewarding listening.
Three tracks stand out for me. The angular and rhythmically unpredictable "8/4" features fine interplay between Hutcherson, tenor saxophonist Joe Henderson and pianist McCoy Tyner. "Summer Nights" is a lovely ballad that displays Bobby's lucid tone and lyrical touch. It also offers a good early look at the way he meshed his sound with Tyner's. The two would go on to develop that partnership in the '80s and '90s. "Verse," which Hutcherson says in the liner notes refers to the literary sense of the word, is indeed an aural poem and one of satisfyingly controlled intensity. It starts out slowly but builds in power with Henderson delivering a particularly inspired performance.
This is Blue Note at its best: great musicians playing with fire and inspiration on well-crafted material. Never a dull moment.
Bobby is tight.......2000-08-11
When I first heard this album, the first thing that I wanted to do was to go and practice. As a vibe player myself, Bobby's album inspired me to want to become the best player that I can be. I still use this album for inspiration when I need it. I would highly recommend this album to any jazz fan. This is one of my 10 desert island picks!
Obviously Excellent.......1999-07-16
Stick-Up! is excellent and fun by just looking at the cover! The band here is quite interesting... Billy Higgins on drums with McCoy Tyner on piano and Joe Henderson on tenor sax. Bobby Hutcherson is fantastic on vibes, starting out with Ornette Coleman's catchy Una Muy Bonita and moving through five more originals, which is different than the equally excellent (and different) Patterns where he contributes no songs. And unlike Patterns (which really is excellent, check it out!!) which is more brooding and introspective, Stick-Up! is more fast paced (and fun) hard bob. This is yet another un-hyped, underselling, world-class album with world-class playing. Highly Highly charged and recommended!

A member of the tight-knit Mobb Deep family, Big Noyd is now considered to be a Queensbridge legend in the Hip Hop world. First getting shine way back in 93 on Mobb Deeps debut album, Juvenile Hell, Noyd continued to make show-stopping appearances on nearly every following Mobb Deep album. His 1996 debut album Episodes of a Hustler was released during a period of incarceration for the infamous Big Noyd. Nevertheless, many consider it a classic. He returned with his sophomore album in 2003, Only The Strong (Survives), and again in 2004 with On The Grind. His latest offering is filled with a plethora of big name artists, such as Mobb Deep, Alchemist, Infamous Mobb, Rick Rude, and Seb. To sleep on this release would be an unwise decision. Once again Queensbridge comes correct, with one of their legendary ambassadors holding it down as always.

4.5 Stars Cause Noyd is hoody like that.......2006-09-17
Big Noyd's New album the stick up kid is good Although it is not as good as his previous releases
This album was sort of a mixtape feel with Infamous Mobb on a few tracks and Havoc on one of them But the rest of the album is all solo however if you are a fan of the Infamous Mobb this is a classic ring to this album
Big Noyd is the only one besides the INFAMOUS MOBB NOT MOBB DEEP holdin down Queensbridge right now and he continues it on his latest release
4th solo for Noyd is another solid one - maybe 4.5 stars.......2006-09-08
19 months since his last album, Noyd is back to rep QB with yet another solid album to add to his collection. Of his 4 solo albums, 2 get 4.5 stars, 1 gets 4, and this one is bor=derline between 4 and 4.5 (not to mention his "Armed and Dangerous" mixtape which I'd also give 4.5 stars). A close affiliate of Mobb Deep, Noyd always brings real, street grimy rap and the formula hasn't changed, and why change if thats what you know and you do it good. With 14 songs, 2 I heard recently on other albums and one Noyd ain't one and only does the hook on another. Of the 14 songs, 2 are ok, 1 is a classic, the other 11 are tight. Guests are on half the songs, and are all QB affiliates, mostly from Mobb Deep or the Infamous Mobb. Production is nice as well, from some good solid producers. Rick Rock does 5 songs, Havoc does 2, Alchemist, Sweb, King Benny, DJ Skizz, Mario, Jay Waxx Garfield andf Grime Team all do 1 song. A great album for fans of real street QB rap to have.

WOW!!.......2006-06-01
This is one of the best albums I have heard in some time. The lyrics are first rate all the way. Well worth the money. Can't wait for the new album! "Your Walls", "What's The Point", "One Little Girl" and "Bitch" are all stand out tracks. All 9 tracks are great!
I love you, Nicola!.......2006-01-20
I met Nicola in Penn Station, NY while she was promoting her music. I have to say, I missed a couple of trains coming home (and I miss her too)!! She is mesmerizing and her CD, which I happened to buy on the spot, is awesome! If you like artists like Melissa Etheridge, Jewel, etc... you will love Nicola too! Awesome mix of Latin, Rock, Soul. Nicola, you the flavor of the month yet?!
A "Knock Your Socks Off" CD .......2005-05-16
You'll want to listen to this over and over. Fantastic mix of Soul, Rock, Latin and Folk original sounds. Nicola's powerful and seductive voice is one to be heard many times over. Her songs and catchy and spicy and I just totally enjoy all of them. Buying this CD will never be a disappointment.
Nicola Rocks!.......2004-11-23
Nicola's "What's the Point" has been blasting from my cd player at work, home, and in the car. It's amazing to hear her sing sweetly and angelically and then burst into booming kick ass notes. A mix of rock, latin, and soul, Nicola puts class, sass, and pizazz in alternative music--and blows many of the mainstream hits out the water. This is truly my soundtrack to life! GO NICOLA!!!!!!!
Best CD I've Heard All Year!.......2004-11-21
This band...this woman...this music just knocked my socks off! What tremendous diversity! There's something for everyone on this CD...Latin, Rock, Soul, Pop, Alternative, Acoustic - it's unbelievable. I can't stop humming these tunes - I'm stuck on "Nicola". Run - don't walk to buy this CD - you won't regret it!

Robb Benson makes me sad..........2002-12-14
...but in a good way. Even the more rockin' tracks on this albumn have a love-lorn, achy quality to them that make me want to bake Robb a batch of cookys and give him a hug already. But don't get me wrong--this isn't shoe-gazer, indier-than-thou-rock along the carissa's weird line--it's catchy and sing-along-able and sometimes even poppy. I've followed Mr. Benson for a while now and i think Dear John Letters is my favorite project of his!
dear john letters.......2002-11-02
great cd. you'll really like it. I do. listen to it over and over and over. still not sick of it. that's something. plus they are great live. definitely my favorite local band right now.
Nothing but praise!.......2002-04-14
I was turned-on to D.J.L. by a friend and I can't get enough
of this recording! They remind me of the "Posies" because of their harmonizing but they have a style all their own.
I hope they get attention outside the local area because they deserve to be heard!
Brit Pop Makes A Sweeping Comeback!.......2002-01-02
I came all the way from San Diego to see these guys, and they were awesome! Robb Benson's songwriting and singing are soooo comfortable; everything fits like an old shoe. In a good way. It's amusing as hell to watch Johnny Sangster, Prime Minister of the Electric Guitar, make his axe do his bidding on stage, and Richard Davidson and Cassady Laton punch you in the stomach with their oh-so-tight rhythm section. I bought the CD afterwards, and I must say that although there is no comparison to the live show, the recording is very well produced, and does the powerful songwriting justice. This album was voted #12 in KEXP (Seattle's 90.3)'s Top 91 Albums of the Year, as voted by YOU, the listeners, and it is well deserved. Look out, the next album will be in the Rolling Stone Top 10...
