Lost Senses, More Innocense.......2005-08-27

Hands on one of the best hardcore/metalcore albums EVER. Notice I said it's the best "album" not "band". I say this because they're second, self-titled, album is blown out of the water by this one. This album contains some of the greatest, most intense hardcore vocals I've ever heard, but unfortunately the vocalist in this album is no longer in the band. Overall this album is all about the Unique and original song arrangements that vary from breakdowns of epic proportions overlaid with harsh, deep vocals to hand clapping choruses with catchy melodies. Nodes of Ranvier is a Christian band, as all Facedown bands, and you can tell that by their lyrics of praise and humility. I guess it's safe to say that this album is rare, I'm pretty sure you can only find it online. Get it, no questions asked.

Great, GREAT CD.......2003-04-13

This is an amazing CD. I would highly recommend it to all. Awesome vocals, talented guitars, a good strumming, all add up to a great album!

the most overlooked metal/hardcore CD of 2002.......2003-03-21

I couldn't believe I had not heard more about this band. They take the greatness of Zao's vein of songcraft and push into Hopesfall/Norma Jean territory. But frankly, I would take this band over Norma Jean any day. The songs are detailed and hard-hitting, the vocals come in complementary layers, and the guitars set a mood and tone (so they're more than one-dimensional math-core) without losing the snap-neck transitions that keep your ears tuned.
I blame their lack of press on the fact that they are on Facedown Records and that Sioux Falls, SD is not exactly known for it's hardcore scene! Nevertheless, from this freshman effort I believe this is a band striving for excellence in a genre flooded with mediocrity. Please check out Nodes of Ranvier. You won't regret it.

This cd is so insane!!! And Nodes themselve's are so incredible live... the way they get the crowd goin. The cool thing is they hail from my hometown!! SIOUX FALLS, SOUTH DAKOTA!! If you like Zao, or anyone like them, you'll love Nodes, they are just plain incredible, and this cd rules!

The song "Soundtrack for Salvation" is insane! It is really hard. If you like Zao, or Living Sacrifice you will love this! Really hard! Great C.D.! GO get it!!

This band is amazing. I downloaded an iTunes sampler from Facebook and when I heard the song Wish for, I was totally hooked. I just ordered the CD and can't wait to get it. I highly recommend this CD.

Just found this group while scanning the Metropolis Records Lable and was amazed. Crisp and melodic, a welcome blend of the songs that invoke a faint smile and quite thoughfullness, as well as a few that get the blood pumping.

Best of the year!.......2006-07-15

Haven't heard too many really great albums this year - until I came upon this Norwegian group with the decidedly American name of "DELAWARE". Not American sounding, though. No, rather like a number of other lesser-known Euro bands I love, like Iceland's "LEAVES" or the British band "SOUTH". Bands that can take the rather boring guitar-bass-drums sound to new heights, by simply employing great space, texture and melodic songwriting in their output. A description of these guys might even be: a harder version of a combination of Radiohead and Coldplay! Or, if you're into any of the new generation of Brit-pop bands like Keane, Snow Patrol or The Doves, then this album is for you - a collection of great songs, that flow in shades of quiet and loud, with vocals that run the gamut from croon to angst, usually in the space of one song! Really, check this out! I can only imagine how great their future output could be.....if people will only catch on to them now.

Enormously Disappointing.......2004-10-01

As a big Bernstein fan, I was looking forward to this comp. But I couldn't even make it through one listen. I found it insipid, saccharine. The main idea behind this comp seems to be to stuff every recognizable theme Bernstein ever wrote into one set while cutting out all other sections including any variations or development. They've cut the meat out of the music and left only the fat. The playing is stiff, the tempos are rushed, the arrangements are terrible. Don't waste your time.

Fabulous recording. Puts you right in the saddle with the Duke, The Magnificent Seven or Charlton Heston's sandals! Power, scope, range, variety and total magnificence - this has it all. By far the best movie sound-track recording of all!

Sit Up and Listen.......2001-06-28

You pop this CD in to your player and the glorios Magnificent Seven theme knocks you off your feet. I'd forgotten how good it was, an icon of testerone flowing unchecked. Then there is the touching innocent To Kill a Mockingbird theme. Starting with a simple music box theme, the music builds to a dramatic climax, as if all the emotion suddenly exploded. The Great Escape track is, I think, one of the very best march compositions of all time. With the tuba providing the baseline with its own melody, then the light brass, perky and upbeat, providing the second melody, this theme instantly evokes both the fatigue and robotic obedience required of prisoners and the brassy indomitable spirit characteristic of the RAF flyers. If you listen carefully you hear the deeper brass (French Horns) take up the theme and give it a more somber character, as yet another melody is sustained in the background. The Ten Commandments stands alone as a wonderful heroic piece. Buy the CD for any one track and you will be pleasantly surprised by the remainder.

The Best Bernstein Sampler Yet!.......2000-05-21

Varese Sarabande has cheery picked from some of the finest (and most famous) film scores ever composed (and some of the best performances thereof yet recorded) in the second half of the last century. There are samples from sixteen film scores by Mr. Bernstein presented here (and since this is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg for this prolific, spectacularly-talented composer, let's hope there will be many more Bernstein compositions to come!). It's beyond great to have all 16 film scores represented on one CD, even though most/all of these tracks are available off other CDs (CD-burner freaks, you've been left at the gate, or, rather, the CD-R/W drive on this one!). It does get a bit confusing trying to figure out all the source material (there's Bernstein right off the film sound track, Bernstein conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra, Bernstein conducting the Royal Scottish Orchestra, Mr. Joel McNeely conducting the Royal Scottish Orchestra, McNeely conducting Seattle Symphony orchestra, Mr. Cliff Eidelman conducting the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and so it goes). But quit making your brain ache; just spin up this CD and let your ears do their thing. And what a wonderful thing those ears will do. Mr. Bernstein, a master of tonality (like Erich Wolfgang Korngold before him), is probably best enjoyed in spurts or in selective film-score "cues"--mainly his opening/closing credit cues, since his scores tend to sag and become less dramatic in between. This CD focuses on the composer's strengths: mostly those opening/closing credit cues you can't help hearing in your mind over and over again. Although the performances are (as previously noted) from many sources, I can't find fault with a single one. The same goes with the recording/mastering/re-mastering. All first rate. One question remains: why are you still reading this write up when you could be buying the CD to empower your ears!

I saw the fabulous band in concert about a year ago in New York and was quite impressed. They convey such soul and depth yet are wild and outrageous. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see that BETTY was releasing another cd so soon after "betty3." I was in heaven when I finally got to word, rock and roll, eerie atmospheric fun house tunes, humor, gravity...you name it, it's there. Now, if only I could get them down here to New Orleans to perform!

After the release of their first album, I felt that the sophmore release would never be able to measure up. I am happy to say that Jed's (as usual) proved me wrong.
Kachina Theater is the inevitable evolution of a band which continues to write and record songs that stir the strongest and most vivid visual imagery of any band. As with their first album, this cd rocks. The catchy and compelling guitar rifts, drums, and bass keep you returning to the cd, while the vocals and lyrics draw you into a place you are happy to visit and proud to be a part of. I heard of this band from a friend that moved here from the U.S.. They are truly gifted artists and the lead singer has the most amazing voice. I love the CD so much it has not left my CD player since it arrived.

A friend of mine from AZ told me that I needed to buy this Cd, so I did. One of the best Cd purchases I have ever made. I have let a lot of my friends and family listen to or borrow my copy and everybody has their own favorite. I have had a hard time getting it back from some people so I've been telling them to buy their own copy! It's very versatile, there's something for everybody. I just hope that the band is able to come to Chicago soon, so I can see them live.
