I will Allways remember 2001,I was i was starting highschool that year and the music was amazeing so much better than 2006
back than there were so many great artists but now its so ridiculus ,so i stick with 2001 we will never forget that year and its music

This Totally Hits edition is the best one yet. The peak, and then all after kept falling!
"I Wanna Be Bad" by Willa Ford is definately the best song on here, and should have been put first. I find it very odd that it was #13, considering it was practically the biggest song of 2001. I also ponder why Willa's "Did Ya Understand That" was not featured on any of the 2002 Totally Hits editions, as well as Willa's "A Toast To Men" not featured on any of the 2004 Totally Hits editions. "A Toast To Men" was even bigger than "I Wanna Be Bad" and "Did Ya Understand That" was played like every 5 minutes in clubs and on MuchMusic!
Anyway, Willa Ford, Miss Elliott, Dream, Toya, 112, & Blu Cantrell really made this CD. All songs are great. Even genres of songs by artists on here that I'm not a big fan of were great!
If Totally Hits just includes THE SAME artists they did on this one on a 2005, 2006, and all editions they will have another hit and great CD. And from the tracklisting on the new 2005 edition, it looks like they add a lot of flops and bad songs on here, instead ones that actually are great and hits!

I only reviewed the songs I know:
1. Hit 'em up style (oops)-Blu Cantrell- A- Great song to dance to. Good for MTV. Awesome, catchy beat. Like dancing to it.
3. Get ur freak on-Missy Elliott- C okay, weird-sounding, definitely overplayed.
4. Fallin remix-Alicia Keys A- Like the song. Another good dance song.
7. U remind me-Usher-D. Don't really like it that much, stupid
8. All or nothing-OTown- C, sad-sounding to me, makes me think of the year 2001. Makes me picture myself in 2001 when I was about 9 or 10 and in a grocery store hearing the song play in the store.
10. Follow me-Uncle Kracker-B- or C+. Kinda like it. Good song about friends at school or camp that follow each other around. Played in so many stores, restaurants, haircut shops, malls, etc. You couldn't get away from it. I felt like I was in a race against the song, and it was winning.
12. When it's over-Sugar ray- C. It's okay, kinda wimpy, whiny, overplayed in stores and on the radio. Good theme song for a TV show.
Totally Hits 2001; Indeed.......2005-05-11
The "Totally Hits" series was created in late 1999 as direct competition for "Now That's What I Call Music". Although the series was almost as good; they never really achived the wide sucess of the "NOW"s. After "Totally Hits 3", the series looked as if it was going to vanish. But the series was revived with a new concept: making just one (later two) to sum up the biggest hits of each year for the Warner/Arista/Atlantic/Elektra music label. "Totally Hits 2001", the 1st edition in this set, is complete sucess; as it collects many of the 2001's best songs, showing what a strong year it was for music. Just about every genre (country being an exception) is included in some form or another. Hip-hop/rap seem to be a dominate force on the album, but of course; it was possibly the most sucessful genre of 2001. The breakdown of 2001's tracks:
(1) Blu Cantrell "Hit 'Em Up Style (Oops!)" B+. Not blinding brilliant tune, but one made with alot of zest and energy. Blu's voice sounds unique and it's nice to hear an R&B song with an angry female verses a sad one. This also happens to be a very infectious track that glues itself to memory.
(2) 112 "Peaches & Cream" A. This relaxing blend of hip-hop and R&B is so blissful that it's impossible to not enjoy. Thr lyrics, and the analogy the make, represent some of the best work to come from the Bad Boy label. Remarkable how the song is naughty and innocent at the samne time. I get hungry just from hearing this.
(3) Missy Elliot "Get Ur Freak On" A-. One of her best songs ever. Everything (the lyrics, beats, producton) falls into place so perfectly that the song succeed as a rap, pop and dance song. Missy loads it with her own style and energy and makes an end result which is unmistakenly hers.
(4) Alicia Keys "Fallin'" (Remix feat. Busta Ryhmes) A-. Alicia has the uncanny ability to take worn out material and give a fresh new sound. "Fallin'" is a perfect example; her piano skills match with her heartfelt lyrics to create a deeply effective song. Busta is good with his (for a change) relaxed raps, but they seem to take away some of the depth. Still good though.
(5) P. Diddy, Black Rob and Mark Curry "Bad Boy For Life" B. The lyrics are very cool and the three rappers have alot of charisma. The problem though, is that the beats seem unpolished and fragmented; well below the usual Bad Boy level. The berats really detract from the songs catchiness and listenability. Still the tone of the song is fun and it does annonces P. Diddy's return with energy and entusiasum.
(6) Dream "This Is Me" (Remix feat. Kain) B. Another hip-hop inlfuenced pop group attemping to follow the path of Desntiny's Child and TLC. They have a nice sound and good harmonizarion, yet the single seems a bit too safe and needs more ambition. Still, P. Diddy's production creates a nice flow to it and keeps ad constant tone.
(7) Usher "U Remind Me" A-. Although it's not great like "U Got It Bad"; it's still a heartfelt R&B single. Usher cenents himself as a driving force in the music industry. The most distinguishing quality is the originality of the lyrics; as this is a different concept for an R&B song. Usher's voice has a deep conviction in it, to deliver a powerful R&B tune.
(8) O-Town "All Or Nothing" B+. Yes, this is the group that was followed on ABC's "Making The Band". It's easy to dismiss the group as a bunch of "pretty boys" (which they are), but this is just as good as the best ballads by the Backstreet Boys and 98°. There is true emotion in the lyrics and the song is made with termemdous skill and attention.
(9) Eve 6 "Here's To The Night" A. A nice laid back pop/rock tune that carries alot of depth and dimension. It's similar to works by Third Eye Blind and Vertical Horizon, yet the group has their own sound. By never trying to hard, they just let the song develop at it's own natrual relaxed rate. The end result is a song of much power and emotion.
(10) Uncle Kracker "Follow Me" A. Think Kid Rock meets James Taylor; that about sums this up. It has all the classic feel of Taylor, yet the modern edge of Rock as well. Anyway, this is a beautiful rock song with touching lyrics and a very easing beat. Uncle Kracker reveals himself to be an artist of much depth and skill. This is one of 2001's best rock songs.
(11) LFO "Every Other Time" A-. The group's best song really captures that innocent feel of 80s pop that they always infuse into their music. There isn't much in terms of content, but the lyrics and beats are so breezy, that the song is impossible to not enjoy. This is a small, harmless pop treasure.
(12) Sugar Ray "When It's Over" A-. The last quality simgle from Sugar Ray. Yes, it has the same sound of "Every Morning", but so what? That was a good song and this is too. The band hss their usual heartfelt lyrics and relaxed beats which, compared to current trend that rock music is taking, is a nice change of
pace.
(13) Willa Ford "I Wanna Be Bad" B. A good song, even if it doesn't fully fit together. The beat is in the right place, but Willa's tine and energy seem kinda forced for the cintent that she's singing. She just doesn't really make the "bad hip-hop girl" bill. Strange that her album doesn't even have a "Parental Advisory" sticker on it.
(14) Toya "I Do!!" B+. I have no idea why this wasn't a big hit; it's one of the catchiest R&B singles of 2001. I'm not even fully certain as to what the track is about, but it is loaded with energy and skill. That combinmed with Toya's voice create a highly enjoyable single from begining to end.
(15) OutKast "So Fresh, So Clean" B-. Not in the same league as "Ms. Jackson", but not bad either. It has enough of the group's unique funk sound to renain interesing, but never really finds any purpose or meaning to it. It's a minor offering from the great hip-hop group, but not an unskilled piece of work.
(16) Ludacris feat. Shawnna "What's Your Fantasy". B. Wheras "Southern Hospitality" introduced Luda's tough side; this shows his playful side. It's not really about anything, but has alot of energy and zest to keep it flowing through out. And it also happens to be a very fun debut single.
(17) Craig David "Fill Me In" A. It took some time for Craig David to hit "the States", but it was well worth the wait. The material goes much deeper than expected and certain sections have a strange dimension to them. This is a fast paced, cool pop song that remains in your head well after.
(18) Dido "ThankYou" A. Dido is one of the most amazing female artists working today. Unlike Britney and Christina, she avoids flashy beats and sex appeal; in the end, leaving true, deep, heartfelt ballads. "ThankYou" is no exception as it is very powerful, soothing and beautiful. A great song for the album's finale.
Bottom Line: ****. This is an exceptionlly solid collection of mainstream music in 2001. Every song on here is good and the end result is a highly enjoyable disc. A glorious victory for "Totally Hits" and a nice addition to the world of hits compilations.
