What once seemed Queen's greatest liabilities--a preening flamboyance and pompous, overwrought theatricality--have ironically become their most enduring charms in a gray, postmodern pop-music landscape. While it eschews the glammy, pre-punk hard rock of live faves like "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Tie Your Mother Down" for the band's more quirky club-beat string of latter-day hits, this 51-track triple-CD anthology goes a long way toward documenting the true dimensions of the band's music and fame. Some songs may not be instantly familiar to American fans because of yet another irony: just as their U.S. fortunes waned during the punk and new wave era, the band was exploding into true international superstars. Thus, there may be a sense of discovery here, whether of latter-day Queen material or solo work by Brian May and Freddie Mercury, whose duet on "Barcelona" with diva Montserrat Caballé transcends boundaries of both time and genre. What more is there to say... the Ultimate Queen collection! This is a great collection of songs and any Queen lover will most certainly love this compliation of recordings.

While this is not the completely definitive collection as some of the purists in other reviews would want, this is exactly what I wanted. I do not have any other Queen recordings and I was looking for a package that contained as much as possible in a single set. I am listening to this almost exclusively in the month since I received it and I am not worn out yet.
If you don't have any Queen and you want to buy just one set, this will cover just about everything. The only reason I don't give it a 5 star rating is the obvious omission of "Tie Your Mother Down" and a couple of recording level issues on a couple of tracks, notably "We will rock you, We are the Champions" which are strangely muted relative to most of the other tracks.

I was kind of skeptical buying this CD set, considering that I already own Classic Queen, but I figured I had nothing to lose but $26. I bought it, and here is my opinion:

Disc 1 has most of the Queen hits that are known to almost every classic rock and Queen fan alike. The only disappointment (in my opinion) on this disc was that the full version of Fat Bottomed Girls was not used.

Disc 2 has most of their other hits. Some notable ones include I Want to Break Free, Under Pressure, The Show Must Go On, Hammer to Fall, and Who Wants to Live Forever, which was edited but the full version can be found on Classic Queen.

Disc 3 is not great, but it's good. It has some songs that shouldn't be there, but the only hits on there are Princes of the Universe, Heaven for Everyone, Thank God It's Christmas, and the Somebody to Love duet with George Michael.

Overall, this was a good CD set. If you are a first-timer or a collector, this is good for you. But it's good for anyone, really.

I was not a big fan of Queen-though I've always liked their music, just never owned any of it. I bought it during the holidays for my kids (6,5,&3)for our car trip to Florida. They LOVED it!! Seriously!! My three yr.old likes the "funny song" -Another One Bites the Dust & can sing it word for word-my 5 yr.old loves Killer Queen & Don't Stop Me Now & just about all the other songs on the CD. I thought they would like it because the Chicken Little movie has We are the Champions & all 3 of them sing it...& I was right.

This is the greatest hits album for confirmed Parrotheads. I turned in my copy of the American greatest hits album, "Songs You Know By Heart," years ago. This import adds, to my mind, two songs that are better than much of SYKBH: "Last Mango in Paris," which is a classic rocking singalong and the expatriate's theme song, "Banana Republics," which will bring a lump to the throat of anyone who's lived a few thousand miles from their birthplace.

While I usually just raid my Buffett collection to create mix tapes, "All the Great Hits" manages to be a great mix on its own, and is one of Buffett's few albums I just drop into the CD player and listen to straight, over and over.

A must have for Parrotheads and well worth the extra money.

Jimmy's music on this CD is outstanding as usual (five stars), this is a good CD for someone who wants to get a taste of his music but isn't a diehard fan. All these songs are on his non-import releases. If your a serious collector you already have these great songs so there is no reason to add this CD. For the music lover who wants a variety of music from a great artist this ones for you - who knows you may be back to become a collector of all the Buffett originals.

Back when I was a young teen, Fats was the reigning King. I have all his songs and have seen him in person many times. His piano playing and his laid back, simple approach to his music are dear to me. I still sing his songs because they are deep seated in my psyche from years of listening. Things were simple then and things in my life were good. Still are, and I still bring out his music to make me happy and take me back to a wonderful time! Thanks Fats!

This compilation encompasses both the early and the later hits of the legendary vocalist. The most unforgettable songs from his most productive period in the 1960s and early 1970s are here: the country classic Green Green Grass Of Home, classic pop like It's Not Unusual, What's New Pussycat, She's A Lady and I'll Never Fall in Love Again and pulsating vocal rock or dramatic power ballads (Pre-Meatloafian) like Delilah, Thunderball, Help Yourself, Daughter Of Darkness and Young New Mexican Puppeteer. There are some omissions, like Detroit City and minor hits such as Once Upon a Time, Little Lonely One, and With These Hands.

The second phase of his career is well represented by his innovative collaborations with new generation artists like Art Of Noise - the magnificent Kiss (1988), Burning Down The House with the Cardigans, the cover of the Three Dog Night hit Mama Told Me Not To Come with Stereophonics, the Medley with Robbie Williams and Stoned In Love with Chicane. Of course his booming baritone is the factor that holds all the styles together, whether it's the lush orchestral arrangements of the 1960s or the more experimental stuff of recent years. So although there are some important omissions, this album deserves five stars for providing a thorough overview of an impressive body of work.

Although it took quite awhile to get here, this imported cd is a great and comprehensive cd for the Buck Owens fan. It has forty hits and is a varied sampling of Buck Owen's legacy as a country star. The great thing about this record is that is chronicles the past and present, having hits like "Streets of Bakersfield" on one of the discs. Another aspect of this cd is its great quality; the sound is exemplary.

The influence Owens had as a country artist is really illustrated in this cd, as there are many songs in here that you have probably heard in shows, movies, or remakes, namely "Act Naturally", "Johnny B. Goode", and "Under My Spell." One of my favorite songs is "Sam's Place." This is a fantastic CD to add to your collection, especially if you are a country music fan!

What I Like About You by The Romantics is what i like about this compilation and the reason why i bought this CD the rest of the songs are also good enough the only song i hate is THE BANGLES track because its been over played

I love music of the 80's and these titles are pretty good, you can look down the titles on the other collections of the 80's also and see what I mean if your really into the 80's like me.

    The title leads one to expect all her biggest hits; however, neither "Have You Heard" nor "My Love, My Love," both important hits for her, is there. It does contain a number of Hank Williams songs (and Joni is acknowledged as a master interpreter of Williams for pop music fans) and many songs which were big hits for OTHER singers (like Tony Bennett). But it misses the 5-star category because it is missing some of her biggest hits.

    This album is a misrepresentation. Only 4 selections are gold hits.Since I have all her songs and albums. The rest of her selections on the CD are from obscure recordings of hits done by other people. It is too bad all her good orginal hits are not on the CD.

    As a fan of Joni James from the beginning, and having been a musician myself during those years, there has never been, nor is there now, nor will there ever be, a voice so superior in rendering ANY ballad that has been or ever will be written. How Joni's stupendous musical vocal accomplishments in the field of pop music have gone relatively unnoticed down through the years is one of the top 5 "shames" of the 20th century. This album's 5-star rating is an understatement. Her entire musical career was a 5-star rating, and it is more the pity that that career was vastly neglected by publicists who gave far lesser vocalists media spotlighting that she, on the other hand, truely warranted.

    This isn't a hit collections but a gathering of some multimillion-selling hits, some rarities and most of Joni's legendary album "Songs of Hank Williams." The sound is excellent. The version of "Your Cheatin' Heart" here is the seldom-heard stereo rerecording, incidentally. Lots to enjoy here.

    I'm not sure I'd call these the "greatest" hits of the 80's, but they are certainly among the bounciest from an era when rock was still fun. There are only ten songs, but any CD with "Take On Me," "I Ran," "Mickey," "99 Luftballoons" and "Call Me" has got to be pretty great. All ten songs have a very catchy beat -- this makes a great CD to work out to. The video for just about every one of these songs has to be buried inside your brain somewhere -- this CD could be called a retrospective of the most-played videos from the early era of MTV. The sound quality is excellent, which is always one of my main concerns with a compilation of this sort. Be forewarned that "99 Luftballoons" is the English-lyrics version. Most people prefer the German-lyrics version, but it's still a great song.

    Rick Nelson is one of the least celebrated and yet most profoundly memorable of all the rock stars of the late fifties and early sixties. His work spanned a time frame that included a lot of rock greats, and yet he stood shoulder to shoulder to them in delivering a phenomenal string of successes which no one other than Elvis Presley could keep pace with in his time. Yet today he is often seen in less than flattering terms, even though he is likely one of the greatest balladeers of the day. Anyone taking a good listen to such songs as "Lonesome Town", "Young World' and ""Never Be Anyone Else But You" can hardly deny his powerful and sensitive voice as a perfect vehicle for the songs. Unfortunately, Nelson is too often treated as more of a star than an artist.

    Yet all of the proof of his ability is here in a collection of his greatest hits, which range from the early "Stood Up" to the more complex and appealing "Travelin' Man". There is quite a range of work here, from "Waiting In School" to "Be-bop Baby", from "Poor Little Fool" to "It's Late", and from "Hello, Mary Lou" to "Believe What You Say". My favorites here are a rocking rendition of "Just A Little Too Much", with some terrific guitar licks by his preferred studio back-up man, James Burton, and "Teenage idol", which shows Rick to considerable advantage later in his recording career. He later did some great covers of songs by everyone from Eric Andersen (a personal friend of Nelson's) to Dylan to his own "garden party" With a career that spanned more than thirty years before his untimely demise in an airplane crash, Rick Nelson remains one of rock's most under-appreciated artists.

    I love this disc! The songs are terrific, and it has most of the songs you would want in such a compilation. I was surprised however that they are not the original recordings (and this is not disclosed in the description before you purchase). The songs were re-recorded by Rick in 1985 shortly before his untilmely passing. While it is great to hear him do his songs again (and they do sound close to the originals) I was expecting the original recordings. So, if you love Rick...buy this disc, but if you want the original sound...look for another.

    I highly recommend NOT wasting money on this CD. I am a huge Ricky Nelson fan and the Legacy set is a bit out of my price range; so I decided to purchase this CD. It has all of my favorite Ricky Nelson songs so what could possibly be wrong with it?? It's TERRIBLE!! These tracks are all re-recordings. Most of the time it doesn't sound like him and when it does, he sounds tired and bored. These tracks have no energy and none of the qualities that make me such a big fan. The front of the CD should say, in plain view, that this CD contains all re-recordings but that is not the case. It's written small on the bottom of the back, and was covered by a sticker placed on the back by the record company. Just a friendly warning that if you are looking for a great compliation with the originals, splurge on the Legacy set. That's just what I am going to do.
