Amazon.com

"Many years from now" must have seemed like an understatement to 16-year-old Paul McCartney, wondering if he'd still be needed or fed at the age of 64. As it turned out, all doubt as to the latter had ceased by his 22nd birthday (though few could have predicted he'd end up washing down those meals with the liquid pride of Seattle). As to the former? Now that McCartney, as of the date of this album's release, has reached that mythic age, his greatest work is 40 years behind him, his solo peak over 30 years gone. Does the world need a new Paul McCartney album? The answer is yes, at least as much as it needs anything else that passes for music these days. With Memory Almost Full, Macca is back. No, it's not Ram or Band on the Run. It might not even be Flowers in the Dirt--in 1989, he had a full band, the support of Linda, and Elvis Costello as a collaborator. Here, he's on his own. Literally: on the majority of the tracks, everything but the strings is multi-instrumentalist Paul. But the surprise is that it's one of his freest, loosest affairs in years, sonically reminiscent of the Tug of War/Pipes of Peace era with nods to Abbey Road in the album-closing medley, McCartney's gravelly tones on "Gratitude," and 2007's version of "Her Majesty," the palate-cleansing "Nod Your Head." It's a surprise because of the album's inescapable sense of retrospection ("Ever Present Past," "Vintage Clothes," "That Was Me") and even a bit of weariness. The next-to-last song is "The End of the End," after all, in which McCartney tells us about what he'd like to happen "on the day that I die." (He wants "songs that were sung/to be hung out like blankets/that lovers have played on/and laid on while listening to songs that were sung," and will likely get his wish.) But it never gets overwhelming, for McCartney mostly resists his tendency to get plodding and maudlin. In fact, Memory Almost Full must be the most sanguine album made during the dissolution of a marriage since...well, ever. "What went out is coming back," he sings in "Vintage Clothes," and from the sound of things, that may not be just wishful thinking. What's past is prologue; if we're lucky, what to come may be McCartney's late renaissance. --Benjamin Lukoff

Album Description

The 13 new songs on Memory Almost Full are performed entirely by Paul McCartney (excluding strings) and produced by Grammy Award-winner David Kahne (The Strokes, Sublime, Bruce Springsteen and more).

This beautifully-packaged, deluxe limited edition also comes with a 2nd disc that contains 3 unreleased bonus tracks and audio commentary by Paul McCartney describing the music, 6 foldout color postcard-sized photos, and full lyrics.

4 out of 5 stars I've been Very Critical..........2007-07-25

....Of Macca's last 2 CD's. Both of which I found very little to add to my all time Macca list. The return of "Driving Rain's" producer David Kahne to the board made me apprehensive as I did not like what he did (or did not do to "Driving Rain") meaning I felt most of the songs on DR were sloppy.

Here, after the better "Chaos" CD comes what has been to become known as "MAF!" I've really waited the month or so to listen to this one and I've decided this...

1.) Dance Tonight: Charming
2.) Ever Present Past: No...
3.) See Your Sunshine:...Errr...no
4.) Only Mama Knows: Nice rocker
5.) You Tell Me:....too draggy
6.) Mr. Bellamy: What's this? Great track!
7.) Gratitude: Ugh..didn't like it immediately...No.
8.) Vintage Clothes: Very Good.
9.) That Was Me: Like it...a lot.
10.) Feet in The clouds:...okay
11.) House Of Wax: What Is This?! I LOVE THIS SONG! Very different from anything I think I've ever heard Macca do. Very cool. My favorite track on this CD.
12.) The End of the End: Wow. Very thought provoking.
13.) Nod Yor Head: Rocking closer....it's alright.

The bonus tracks (In Private, Why So Blue & 222) could easily replace the songs I downed. I've always wondered if both this one and Chaos would have been much better if Macca GREAT touring band had played on all the tracks. i think by him doing everything it tends to loose flavor.

Just my opini-onion.

I like Dance Tonight, Mr Bellamy, Vintage Clothes, That Was Me and I love House of Wax.

5 out of 5 stars Memory almonst full.......2007-07-22

Typical McCartney material. Great to listen to in the car - gets your feet tapping and makes you sing along to it.

5 out of 5 stars 65 and still going strong.......2007-07-22

This is a great album. Buy the deluxe edition; the interview with Paul on the bonus disc alone is well worth the price.

4 out of 5 stars Good music, poorly engineered recording.......2007-07-18

I must admit that I'm somewhat surprised by the number of negative reviews I've seen for this album. I thought Paul came up with some good melodies here. The musicianship is first-rate. Paul's voice is in pretty good shape. Sure, there are times when the lyrics could've been better, but that's typical McCartney. Folks, if you didn't like this album at first, try listening to it a bit more. I think it's a heck of a lot better than most of the pop/rock being produced today. And let's not even talk about rap and hip-hop (yuck). This CD set contains songs that are fun to sing, complete with melodic twists and variations in tempo. You wouldn't think those would be such rare qualities in today's music, but they are.

I agree with the reviewer who was critical of the recording. One of the worst examples is "Only Mama Knows". Most of the song is pushed to the absolute limit of CD volume. There's no actual clipping indicated when the track is viewed on a good audio editing program, but it sounds like there was clipping at some stage of the recording/mixing process. The effect of this is distortion and almost no dynamic range. I suspect a remastered version of this album will be issued years from now, and the volume problem will be fixed. And, yes, I'll probably be foolish enough to buy it.

1 out of 5 stars Time to retire and rest on your laurels.......2007-07-18

To say that I am disappointed in this compilation of McCartney music is an uderstatement. What was Sir Paul smoking when he conceived this idea? He has written these stupid essays and sung them into songs. And the essays are terrible and mindless.

Sir Paul, you are 64 and I will still send you a valentine, if you stop writing trashy music. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. This one is sad.

It is time to retire and rest on your laurels.

4 out of 5 stars Good album from the "Made Men".......2006-04-14

Benzino left the Almighty RSO and founded the Made Men with Antonio Twice Thou & Mr. Gzus and put this out in 99. With 19 songs you get a lot of material and guests as well. Antonio Twice Thou is on 18 songs, Mr. Gzus is on 16, and Benzino is on 14. Of the 19, 1 is a classic, 1 or 2 I skip, 3 or 4 ar eok and the rest are good songs. This was before Benzino was in his beef with the, at the time, not well known Eminem (who just came out 6-8 months prior to this release. Production is tight and mostly handled by Hangmen 3 (like all projects Benzino is involved with) doing 13 of the 19 songs. L.E.S. does 2 songs, Daz Dillinger & Soopafly, Dame Grease, Kanye West (this is the 1st song I ever heard him produce), and D-Dot all do 1 song. A nice album to have for your collection.

2 out of 5 stars its ok one of benzino's side projects .......2006-01-28

this album i found in someone's cd case my friend found and he gave it to me. then i found this i popped it in and i wasn't surpised because it came out in the bad boy era 1998 and i wasn't really feelin this cd but the only songs that i really liked was Wise Guys For Life and Tommy's Theme from the belly soundtrack featuring LOX

1 out of 5 stars Another product of the sauce ... sorry, I meant Source.......2005-02-01

Bezino returns with his crew. This album is utter rubbish. There's no saying further. The guest appearances are what make it worth, but for Master P (What da...?) to outshine them in song, then they must really suck. Really. 4 1/2 mics. Benzino said he's the 5 mic giver. Now I understand what he means. No wonder these dudes never get shown anywhere except the Source.

5 out of 5 stars Hotttttt.......2004-05-06

Hot album.
Tommy's Theme ft. The LOX
Blowin' Circles In The Wind
Not The One (That B**ch Is Done)
15 Years In
Sticky Situation ft. Montell Jordan

are all fire just to name a few. The only problem with the album was it had too many skits and it was too long. Almost 80 minutes. It literaly was 1 or 2 songs away from being able to be sold as a double disc. Even some of the greatest rappers ever had problems dropping a album with this long and with this many tracks(Jay-Z for example with The Blueprint 2). If they would have trimmed it down to about 60 minutes with the best 17 or 18 tracks it would have been a CLASSIC!

1 out of 5 stars No good.......2004-02-03

no good, benzino is not very great dont wast your money on this album buy something worth while like The Black Album or Beg For Mercy.

My brother accidentally bought this for me instead of the explicit version.I was sorta angry cause tha edited version didnt have all of tha songs. After listening to it i waz surprized cause even without tha other songs this waz still tight. The only thing bad about the songz is that they focus 2 much on money n carz throughout tha album."Blowin Circles in the Wind" and "Is it You (Deja Vu)" with Master P are my favorite trax.Even after gettin this album i still wanna get tha explicit version though 4 "Tommy's Theme" with tha LOX n "Clockin C-Notes" with Daz, Kurupt, n Tray Dee.

4 out of 5 stars a new begining for Steel Prophet .......2005-02-16

The reason why I say that is because this is the first album without Rick Mythiasin as lead vocalist. The new singer is Nadir D'Priest Who was in bands such as D'Priest and London. First off I must say his singing style is different from Rick Mythiasin's but even so I feel he is a good fit for the band. He doesn't have as much range but seems to have more power and aggressiveness. For me it did not take long to get use to his singing there is just something about his voice. I must say I do miss Rick but in time after Nadir gets some albums under his belt that will probably no doubt change. Like I said there is just something about Nadir's voice. As far as the music is concerned it is typical steel prophet. This album has a very raw sound like dark hallucinations but energetic like messiah. One thing I noticed though is the harmonic guitars aren't as evident on this album. But that is just a minor thing about the album. But I think you should give this album a chance even though it does not have Rick on vocals it is still a good release from steel prophet. But I rate this album four and a half stars because there are a few songs that just don't appeal to me.

            Product Description

Poland can be considered like a second home for current neo Progressive music, along with Italy and the Netherlands. QUIDAM is certainly the main and most appreciated act to have emerged from this field, with ABRAXAS and COLLAGE. Note that female singer Emila DERKOWSKA's vocals and charm add a lot to the whole. As the sophisticated pop-rock melodies of "Sny Aniolow" ("Angels' Dream" for the English-sung version, 1998) contrasted with a first eponymous album (Revelation of the year 1996) extremely appreciated for its instrumental developments, the third opus "The Time Beneath The Sky" (2002) orchestrates a new stylistic change, that keeps the caracteristical QUIDAM sound. The pastoral flute is pleasant as usual, accompanied by a lyrical and fluid guitar: no doubt about it, the CAMEL spirit is all around ! After the splendid version of DEEP PURPLE's "Child In Time" on "Live In Mexico 1999", this masterpiece allows us to listen to an incredible rendition of LED ZEPPELIN's "No Quarter", without any doubt one of the British musicians' closest attempts to Progressive rock. The rest of the album confirms that we have found the way back to ambitious musics. And that's not without surprise that we discover some tense and intriguing sequences close to... PORCUPINE TREE ! One more trump, for an ever-shining diamond... "SuREvival" (2005) is a testimony of the new line-up of the band, the charming Emila DERKOWSKA leaving the stage in favor of a male singer. "...Bez PolPradu - ...HalfPlugged" (2005) presents several titles from the current album, plus some classics of the band and three cover-versions: "Wish You Were Here" (PINK FLOYD), "Blackbird" (THE BEATLES) et "Nights In White Satin" (THE MOODY BLUES). As exclusive bonus, three video tracks are added, including a rehearsal part. 2006 marks the tenth anniversary of the first self-titled album of QUIDAM. For the occasion, the Musea and Rock Serwis labels got together in order to produce three discs in limited edition, presente
