A review of the Devil's Advocate soundtrack........2003-06-20
Devil's Advocate is a virtuous album. It was brought out in 1997, the same year the movie was. It features all of the dark compositions on it. In fact, this album is quite long for being based on a motion picture. It has approxmitaely 26 tracks on it, 3 of them being character dialouge.
My 3 favorite pieces off this record are 3,11, and 26. New York is a well-done, but rather short tune. The song is great however. It perfectly matched the scene in the film. Geddes/Weaver is another powerful track, one of the most famous in the entire movie. The horn parts are quite exceptional. The last number entitled Finale, which is dialouge, contains an excerpt from Pacino's/Milton's lecture around the end of the movie. It's good stuff, even though I don't believe in that philosphy.
This is a good record. If you like the film, then you are sure to love this cd. The songs can get minorly repetitive and a few of them are too short. All around, a good buy. Thank you for taking the time and generosity to read my review.
Frightening Enough, But Too Choppy.......2000-11-04
Any one who loves this movie as much as I do is sure to find pieces like "Lovemaking," "Barzoon," "57th Street" and "Geddes/Weaver" to be truly powerful listening experiences. I was uncertain whether the chillingly diabolical feel of the sequences in this movie would be communicated on this CD with only the music to carry them, and I'm pleased to say that they are. The PROBLEM though with this disc is that although the music is beautiful and fits perfectly with the film and communicates a lot in the film, too many of the pieces are too short to be very interesting out of that context. Except for the four incredible pieces I've praised above (and maybe one other I'm overlooking), the tracks are too short and discontinuous to provide a sustained listening experience. If you are a fan of the movie like me or want some eerie background music or just a few powerful and frightening-as-possible listening experiences, this will work, but not if you're looking for an integrated, stand-alone 45 minute listening experience.
Gothic And Elegant As Well As Chilling........1999-09-27
I have always admired James Newton Howard's music. But here he has created a gothic masterpiece! He combines such great sounds and comes out with a score worth listening to over and over again. I also loved the fact that the soundtrack comes along with dialogue. But this is perfect music that flows with the film's dark images, Howard does what Mark Snow does in "The X-Files," bring out feeling and mood through the score. This is a fabulous masterpiece and gothic extravaganza!
ITS A GREAT SOUNDTRACK, WITH FUNNY DIALOG FROM THE ACTORS........1999-07-16
I thought it was great music. Except I thought it would have "Painted Black" by the Rolling Stones. Other wise it is a great classical soundtrack which wont put you to sleep.
Excellent Classical Style Music.......1998-05-04
The CD is a great classical music CD, with enough punch to not put you asleep! Great driving music.

German Tekno.......2004-05-06
have to disagree with a previous reviewer of DAVE CLARKE, yes we all make mistakes especially when it is live, like on BBC, which i have and many other live mixes like it or better, but DAVE CLARKE is by far a great sound and one of the reasons i love tekno, so yes i highly recommend dave clarke, you have to remember people do like to experiement and dabble with other sounds that we may not like, he still has bangin tekno hits!!
Dave Clarke, one of techno's finest is back.......2004-04-16
Devil's advocate is dj/remixer/producer Dave Clarke's first proper full length release. Let me begin by saying that the majority of the cd's cuts are uptempo and get your blood boiling. There is a good amount of variety on the cd with techno, electro, and house all being properly represented. "Way of life" opens up with an old skool feel, with it's pitched up and effected organ loop and heavy duty house beats. The cover of Bauhaus's "She in parties" is pretty imaginative and current with it's driving Moroderesque bassline and ice cold vocals by Chicks on Speed. The Chicks show up again on "Disgraceland", a song lampooning the current state of the music industry, but it's not as interesting. "The wiggle" picks up where "Way of life" left off with twisted house loops, old skool vocal samples and stomping beats. Probably a tribute to Terry Francis's house night of the same name. The previously released tribal-techno stomper "The wolf" still does the business. "Just ride" and "Stay out of the light" are both danceflor burners. If your lookig for a techno cd that has a good amount of variety and works at home as well as on the dancefloor pick up "Devil's Advocate" today.
Please, spare the platitudes Karla.......2004-04-16
I recently heard Clarkes Essential Mix on Radio One, which spurred the purchase of this album. I must say, Merriam-Websters description of Devil's Advocate is most adequate--"it draws liquid into the mouth!" Those who enjoy this compellation might also enjoy Moby's ""Early Underground"", which is most likely the reason he surfaced into main stream music, rather than waisting his time falling short of a truely mellifluous underground sound. I'm not insinuating Clarke is inept in this genre of music, for his style is most unique and demands reverence of even the most fickle dance enthusiasts, I'm only stateing my opinion of this production. All-in-all I do not recommend this to listeners, or even lovers, of techo.

SLAMMIN!!!!!!!.......2003-12-03
Dave Clarke is back with this sold release of new tracks. I've always been a fan of Dave since he can range from Electro, techno, Hip Hop, Disco House and still blend them together nicely into one set. Heres a breakdown on my favorite key tracks off this release:
2. She's In Parties (This is a great electro remix of the classic Bauhaus darkwave track, sweet electro at its finest)
3. Wiggle(nice Chicago House bootiness to this)
4. Blue On Blue
5. Deo Gratias
6. Stay Out Of The Light
7. Just Ride
8. Dirt Box
9. Disgraceland (nice taste in the ElectroClash arena with special guess Chicks on Speed on vocals)
10. Wolf
11. Addendum
A very fun disk to have, check it out!
