3 out of 5 stars Old Comp That was Right with the Times.......2005-02-22

This was a solid lounge compilation on the Stereo Deluxe label that wished to promote a few of their own artist - like Mo Horizons, Boozoo Bajou, Trio Eletrico and, at the time, Moodorama. Oh heck... I'll just name Czech and Funkhaus too since that would be all of the artists included on this sampler. I really like the Stereo Deluxe label even though they've recently announced a 'strategic cooperation' with Ministry of Sound Germany. I think MOS Germany's gaining strength - they did something similar with another small Germany label, Audiopharm, with releasing the Brazilution series.

But this compilation is from a different time period - 1999! It starts out with the radio edit of Mo Horizon's silky sexy "Foto Viva", a lounge and nitelife anthem. Only downside to the track is the alarm clock in the end; although the tune is sort of like a dream. Definitey try to check the edit version without it. Boozoo Bajou kicks in with "Night Over Manaus" next but that wasn't a song I was a huge fan of - a bit obnoxious with the Cuica. However "LUnera" by Trio Eletrico added some much needed spice to the mix with a pretty cool beat. Meanwhile Moodorama's "Sinzing Sunset Boulevard" is a song I just love to hear, especially in the summertime. Whispery vocals over rhodes and a cute beat. "Yes Baby Yes" is a cut that'll be familiar to people nowadays, thanks to a more recent Kia commercial from maybe a year ago (the one where everyone gossips that an employee got a promotion). It's pretty funky - the song, that is! There are some other cuts on here that are pretty cool to - "Under My Sensi", given a facelift by Thievery Corporation is one of them - but you get the rather cool, original slickster of a cut to close out the cd too.

I definitely enjoyed this CD. But I mainly picked it up because of the familiarity with the artists, and at the time this came out, I was really into Thievery Corporation. They would release a semi-mixed cd titled "Jet Society" that featured a few cuts from this including the edited version of "Foto Viva" and several others. So I would have to recommend that compilation over this one. This one simply doesn't have the strength of some of the other comps that would quickly follow or simply prove to be replicas of one another at the time it was out, like "Hi-Fidelity Lounge" or "Futurelounge" - the last one being yet another Stereo Deluxe project. Of course now there are a few other comps out that are far more recent, and to be fair this did serve as a good spring-board for the likes of Mo Horizons and Boozoo Bajou and even Moodorama before they switched labels. And now, Minus-8, formerly of Compost Records, released an album through SD although I heard it is disappointing.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD for its Genre.......2002-07-17

It came with 2 CD's, which was a bonus. My only complaint is that it has a number of songs which are on the Mo' Horizons Come Touch the Sun Album, which I know by heart.

5 out of 5 stars wow, this is really good.......2001-07-10

i got this album expecting it to be fairly decent but i was really shocked when it turned out to be really good. i am into kruder & Dorfmeistr, Tosca, Kid Loco, Theivery Corporation, Shantel etc.. this cd fits perfectly with the mood. its really chilled out, down tempo, trippy...

anyway i got 2 versions of this album, i got the normal one and the limited edition one which has an extra cd, i also got Vol. 3
