Second only to Riverdance as an international Irish showbiz phenomenon, previous installments of this Platinum-selling extravaganza have become beloved PBS standards. The original buxom quartet of female singers, Lisa, Maev, Orla, and Chloe, have duly been joined by Hayley and are, as usual, backed by a full symphony orchestra and choir, plus enough traditional instruments (the house fiddler, Mairead, is a powerhouse) to keep things legit. The material ranges from folkloric ("Dúlaman" is best known from Clannad's legendary rendering), to a standard from another Celtic nation ("Caledonia," Dougie McLean's love letter to his native Scotland), to classical lite (Handel's poignant "Laschia Ch'io Pianga"), to movie hits ("Somewhere Over The Rainbow" in a delicately lovely, a cappella, close-harmony treatment), to homegrown New Age (Enya's "Newgrange"). Most tracks are produced to turn, presented in the aural equivalent of Technicolor or day-glo, in which colors pop while diverging ever so slightly from nature. In short, although the album offers fresh material, it covers old ground -- but this is exactly what the act's target audience expects and desires. Fans of acoustic folk would likely find the prevailing aesthetic a touch garish, but fans of Sarah Brightman and Il Divo will be diverted and thrilled. The deluxe package offers four bonus tracks, three of them live, plus a silver claddagh charm. --Christina Roden

celtic woman a new journey.......2007-07-16
This is a very good cd and very enjoyable. If you like this type of music it is a must have.
celtic woman- a new journey.......2007-07-15
This is a great album if you like CW. You will not find typically[traditional] Irish music; but it can be compared to a Las Vegas show.
There are some great easy-listening songs, with an upbeat twist. These
ladies do a great job harmonizing.
5+stars!!!!.......2007-07-13
From the moment I first heard their Slane Castle concert on PBS, I LOVED Celtic Woman's music. They all have BEAUTIFUL voices. The youngest, Chloe, is amazing. I have this CD, the concert DVD that goes w/ it, their first concert on DVD (at the Helix in Dublin), and the CD that goes w/ it.
CD GREAT, SHIPPING NIGHTMARE.......2007-07-10
This CD, as everyone has previously mentioned, is absolutely awesome. I purchased two of the 'deluxe' editions, one for myself and one for my mother's 91st birthday. The shipping, direct from [...], was a disaster. They will say shipping dates are 'estimated,' however, they went far beyond that. I got an email after two weeks saying they were having some kind of unspecified problem filling the order and then got the product about 10 days after that. Totally unacceptable. I've always had excellent service from Amazon sellers (aftermarket), but I will certainly discourage my friends from giving me Amazon gift certificates in the future, as they have done in the past. Shame, Amazon!
Expectations Well Met.......2007-07-09
A New Journey is fun and relaxing listening...met all of our expectations. My 3 girls ages 9-14 love it and so do I.

Our Love To Admire is at once unmistakably Interpol and undeniably new. The witty and perverse "No I In Threesome" is an upbeat ode to shaking up a staid relationship propelled by Carlos D's peerless bass melody while the tenderly observant "Pace Is the Trick" proves that the band are still the masters of the dramatic - check the painful pause right before the sinfully satisfying return of Sam's thundering drums and Daniel's ringing lead guitar. The band's impressively seductive evolution is obvious all over the record, but never more so than on tracks like "Mammoth," "Who Do You Think" and on the album's lyrical centerpiece, the ghostly "Rest My Chemistry." While Daniel is understandably proud of the song he cautions against reading too much autobiography into its lyrics. "We always leave the interpretation to the listener," he says. "I mean, you shouldn't watch a movie for the first time listening to the director's commentary!"
Our Love to Admire closes with "The Lighthouse," a funereal dirge that is among the most unexpected and memorable songs ever recorded by the band. Almost entirely percussion-free, the song is constructed around Daniel's mournful guitar and Paul's sparten lyrics. Not only is it one of their finest moments to date, it provides the album's most goose-bump inducing moment, the very same reflex shivers that make Interpol live shows such an exhilarating experience. As the very last song the band recorded for the album it was, they say, the hardest to play. The hypnotic guitar part was played on a 50-year-old guitar that had toxins on the strings, providing Daniel with a blistering and painful sensation in his fingers. The band weren't even sure the track would make it out of the studio, but once they heard Paul's remarkable vocals they were floored. The song - and the album - doesn't so much end as it bleeds to a close with a long, echoey coda filled with feedback and strin! gs. A fittingly dramatic end to a stunning and emotional journey. Interpol is back, every bit as good as before but charged with a new spirit, a new direction, a new label and, most of all, a new confidence.
Special Package Edition includes:
A bound, CD-sized hard covered book with 24-page booklet. CD in back and poster.

Instant Classic.......2007-07-18
From the opening note, "Our Love To Admire" sets the mood, steeped in dark pop. The flow of the album is well conceived, with powerful tracks near the end to keep the album moving towards the climax in a whisper.
The vocals are emotive and serve as the vocal point for each song. The bass sound is full, yet throaty. The guitars are upfront, with a nice use of texture.
"No I In Threesome" is a personal favorite, complete with the title line in an unexpected place. "Heinrich" is an excellent choice for radio play. Other stand out tracks include "All Fired Up" (with some very active guitar lines), "My Chemistry" (actually some of the best Interpol lyrics ever are present on this song", and "Wrecking Ball"
I can't wait to see them on their upcoming tour.
Cementing their sound a little bit further... get the normal copy this special edition is not worth it!.......2007-07-18
Firstly I would like to say do not waste your money on this copy of this album. Get the normal copy!
I bought it thinking it was going to be unique, only to find as I pulled off the wrapping that i managed to tear a small part of the paper cover album! Not only that, but when I opened the booklet up the cd managed to fall out (also comes in a slip) and get slightly scratched (not bad enough that i couldnt listen to it) and the poster, apart from being folded up way too many times is also a pain to try and get back into its original sleeve.
Plus it costs a lot more then the normal version. Just buy that one!
The album:
Apart from being over joyed at the thought of a new interpol album, I have to say that I didnt really find that much of a difference in the writing style to antics. I feel however, the difference between turn down your bright lights and antics is quite easy to spot.
I find there is some starking difference to the overall feel of the album. Almost like the recording was more refined, less analoge and more of a digital perfect stream of sounds involved ( I will refer back to antics for a better listen) but I like it!
This album provides quite a mellow feel to it, really easy to listen to and as an interpol fan, you can only help and appriciate that this band is finding its sound. This album is evidence of that.
I dont know if this will be as big a hit as Antics was with "Evil" but "the Henrich Manuver" and "All fired up" may prove otherwise.
A good Interpol album. Not as innovative as people seem desperate to find between albums but if you are a fan of the interpol/joy division sound from previous experiances (albums) then this one is for you.
It's a different kind of Interpol.......2007-07-17
This album definitely takes some getting used to. Where songs like PDA, slow hands, not even jail, leif erikson, have something immediately cool about them, or have that hook which pulls you in, you may have to dig a little deeper to find it in OLTA. I must have listened to TOTBL and Antics 100's of times so I know Interpol as much as any other fan, but my initial feeling about OLTA was indifference. I just didn't find it that appealing, and some songs just horrible (mostly wrecking ball). But after a dozen or so listens it is growing on me. And I'm starting to like the "New" Interpol a little more. So my advice is to give it a good try, but it's certainly an acquired taste.
Been Waiting a long time for this album!.......2007-07-14
Interpol has to be one of the most underrated bands of our time. I discovered Interpol about a little over a year ago with Antics and Followed it up with Turn on the Bright Lights, TOtBL has to be the best interpol album ever made by them. I have yet to hear Our Love to Admire but you can be sure that any Interpol Purchase is a good purchase. I still spin the albums more than I thought I would. But do be careful! Interpol is an Acquired taste and I have noticed that the people who I share interpol with and actually like it, are music enthusiasts and people who just love music and appreciate the artists visions and artwork. There songs are a little different than what normal people are used too. But don't worry, If you are afraid of expanding your tastes or you have exhausted them, Interpol WILL grow on you. it did for me, each song individually stand up on it's own and this album does just that!
this is on the so called "special package".......2007-07-12
i totally love interpol and love this album, this was practically gonna be true before i heard one song
on the new songs, they are pretty good, some classics already
my beef is with the special package, the booklet is essentially on different paper (thicker non shiny) but it's the same as the regular cd
the poster pictured is a masterful foldout poster folded so many times, think of a regular size cd insert with dimensions 4 x 5.. that's a lot of folds
the poster art is not too bad
i guess i was hoping for some pictures of the band, ok i will stop hating now, just make sure u buy the regular cd
save your money, buy the regular one instead

Album Description
On March 25, the remarkable Elton John proudly turned 60 years old. To celebrate the occasion, he performed his 60th concert at Madison Square Garden, and two days later released a newly compiled and digitally remastered collection of his greatest hits from past to present. This over 78-minute-long compilation is the first-ever single disc to cover the first 35 years of the great singer-songwriter's career. This limited edition comes with a bonus DVD, containing 5 live performances from the NBC broadcast of Elton's Red Piano concert, including his hits "Bennie and the Jets," "Rocket Man," "Candle in the Wind 1997," "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," and "Your Song." It also features 5 music videos, including "Your Song," "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues," "I'm Still Standing," and "I Want Love"--the latter featuring Robert Downey Jr.--plus Elton's new video for his latest single, "Tinderbox," only available here.
Customer Reviews:
One disc is not enough........2007-07-14
It is hard enough to fit all of Elton's hits on to 2 cds. So you can imagine that a single disc collection is missing some great tunes. For my money, I'll take "Greatest Hits 1970-2002."
Over the Top, as Usual.......2007-06-02
This is a great collection for any EJ fan. Not only are all his best hits included, the videos are just as great! Anyone who calls themselves an Elton John fan should have this CD/DVD combo. The only better collection of his greatest hits would be if his 60th birthday concert was released as a live recording, either on CD or as a DVD.
Love him or loathe him........2007-05-23
Good old Elton: spats with George Michael, agony aunt to the Beckhams, adopted daddy to Robbie Williams, songwriter on Billy Elliot's stage reinvention, not to mention his birthday's celebration.
It's a wonder the man, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, has time for a pop career at all.
But what a colourful career it has been. Love him or loathe him, in terms of sales and lasting popularity the singer, with over three decades of back catalogue, has more than earned his superstar status.
Never a conventional looker with his Lily Savage specs and rug bouffant, John's ability to dip into soul, disco and country as well as classic pop and progressive rock on tracks such as "Tiny Dancer", "Rocket Man", "Your Song", "Sacrifice' and "I'm Still Standing", has made him a musical legend.
Through sales slumps and well-publicised fall-outs with lyricist Bernie Taupin, the music maestro has managed more comebacks than Cher's Farewell tour.
To mark the occasion of his 60th birthday, Elton John releases a special edition 2-disc edition that includes a bonus DVD featuring five promo videos spanning the last four decades and five prevously unreleased tracks from his legendary Red Piano Las Vegas show.
The main CD features 18 tracks of hits spanning the likes of "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Candle In The Wind", including "Tiny Dancer" (the song that was immortalised by the filmmaker Cameron Crowe in his fictional rockumentary "Almost Famous").
The collection veers more towards his Seventies' work and mixes the ballads with the rowdier numbers such as "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting") and "I'm Still Standing".
Some of the tracks are overly sentimental, particularly the latter stuff, but there's no getting away from the quality of recordings such as "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues" and "Rocket Man (I Think It's Going To Be A Long Long Time)".
Fans will lap it up as part of the birthday celebrations, even though there's been a better "greatest hits" collection only few years ago.
But it's hard to begrudge such an enduring and popular artist his place in the limelight, particularly now that he's reached 60 years of age.
On the whole this is as solid a compilation as anyone who lacks a bit of Elton in their collection could wish for.
Rocket Man, Number Ones by Elton John.......2007-05-17
Rocket Man - Number Ones is a two disc set. On the first disc you get seventeen songs. Twelve are tried and true number ones and include hits like "Bennie & The Jets" and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight?"
One of my favorites is "Tiny Dancer", a song written about Maxine Feibelmann, a dancer who was on tour with Elton and who later married Bernie Taupin. They are divorced now, but the song will forever be a beautiful story and mind's eye visual performance to me. Close your eyes when you listen, you can see her dance.
Now, one song I would have liked on this compilation is "Ticking." That is just me, and that song is another of my all-time favorites.
When you're finished listening to disc one, you'll be filled with memories of where you were and what you were doing at the time each of the songs hit the airwaves. It was a nice return to the past. You can sing along, wash dishes, take a walk, or just listen. It was nice to have all the hits in one place.
As much as I love the music, I really loved the second disc in the set. The DVD is also broken up into two sections.
Five videos (the good kind - the when MTV was all about videos kind) are on the disc. "Tinderbox" is nostalgic and you see some of the old band mates when they were young and footage of shows and concerts, bus trips and plane rides. The cinematography is awesome and I'm not sure if I watched or listened more.
If you remember "I Want Love", this is a haunting piece that uses Robert Downey, Jr. He's in an empty apartment looking for love with sad eyes, hardwood floors, a fireplace and great windows. I think I want to live there. Although the focus in this piece is on Downey, Elton sings lyrics that weave a story. You will also smile at the video of "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues." This video hits home now with the war and so many soldiers leaving and returning to the United States. At the end of the "Your Song" video, I clapped. In my study, alone with my cat, Gus, I clapped at my laptop screen.
Don't fear if you're a fan of live music. This compilation has something on there for you as well. You can see performances from Elton's "The Red Piano Show" in Las Vegas.
I loved the concert footage. I forgot how great Elton John was on stage. I saw him in Cleveland a long time ago. I was a size 5 then, more interested in scanning the crowd for boys then appreciating that I was in the presence of a fantastic performer. Oh, so is youth.
Speaking of youth, if you are a bit older, like me, this is a great CD to share with your kids. They will get a good review of Elton's work and also get to see him perform.
Rocket Man Rocks.......2007-05-17
I've been an Elton John fan from the beginning. This by far is the best collection of his best work!

A Real Treat! Especially the DVD!.......2007-06-27
This version of "Pet Sounds" is a real treat for fans; the fuzzy green packaging is very sturdily built and is nice to the touch although it remains to be seen how well it will stand the elements over time. As to the discs themselves if you already have a mono and a stereo version of the album then the cd will be nothing new for you. I have never been a fan of duplicating albums with both mono and stereo versions on one disc but for me as I only had a mono version prior to this version, I didn't mind getting this for the stereo version and especially for the DVD 5.1 surround version. What I didn't like was that "Trombone Dixie" is missing and it was on the Dutch version of the stereo version that I used to have years ago.
The dvd has some promo videos and candid interviews with members of the band and especially of Brian Wilson but the sound quality of the DVD Dolby Surround is truly fantastic. You just end up hearing sounds that you didn't know were there when you were just listening to the cd. It's made me decide to forego the cds and to go straight for the DVD whenever I want to listen to the album. For this reason alone I'd say go get this version unless they end up just releasing the DVD in an mlps format the way they have just done with U2's "Rattle and Hum". If they do that in the future, I'd say go and get that if you already have the cd. Oh yeah, and they really should include "Trombone Dixie" in addition the "Hang On to Your Ego" that they included with the cd but not with the dvd as well as the other outtake sounds that were part of the bonus tracks that were released in the 1991 stereo version.
Confessions from a curious listener.......2007-01-20
I must confess, I bought Pet Sounds out of curiosity, since it has been ranked as one of the best albums in history, behind the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper. In addition, I also confess that before Pet Sounds I had very limited knowledge of the Beach Boys and/or Brian Wilson's music and after playing it once I sincerely say: PET SOUNDS IS INDEED A MASTERPIECE CRAFTED BY A GIFTED ARTIST !!!.
The 40th Anniversary edition comes with a wonderful DVD that documents the making of this album through interviews and original footage, plus a video showing a visit Sir George Martin made to Brian Wilson's home.
This album is a MUST-HAVE for music fans, and I totally agree with Sir Paul McCartney's views on this album (printed on the CD's booklet), expressing that "NOBODY IS TRULY MUSICALLY EDUCATED WITHOUT LISTENING TO PET SOUNDS"
You can never have too much Pet Sounds.......2007-01-04
Pet Sounds is the ultimate aural experience. I enjoyed the 5.1 Surround mix. I sat in a chair, closed my eyes and drifted into a soundscape of textured notes and voices.
I already own the box set, the 1st CD edition and even an original vinyl copy. It seems that every time I upgrade I am never disappointed.
Purist seem to like the Mono version of the album. I love the all the sounds that scream out of the stereo version.
If you do not have the box set or the other stereo Cd, I would highly recommend this set. It covers everything Pet Sounds that you will want. If you do not care for the interviews and film, you will appreciate the surround mix on the DVD. The box set is more for Brian wilson Fanatics(Myself included) and collectors.
Finally, a HIGH CLASS package for a high class album.......2006-11-11
Brian Wilson made a generation of kids look at love lost/love gained/love period, the way they never had before. It really wasn't an "age of innocence" back in 1966, but it was less complicated than what it would be like in the following decades, having to reconcile issues like E.R.A. amendments, growing tolerance/promotion of homosexuality, H.I.V./AIDS, and, ahem, the preponderance of man-made global warming. SHEESH! Back then we (I was a teenager in 1966) only had love and a war to deal with, beyond getting our school grades up for mom and dad (most of us had both, in the same house back then).
So, this work of art was literally outstanding in its field, and those of us who actually listened to it were challenged with our feelings, thoughts, and actions toward this thing that we called LOVE. It was an absolute shame that Capitol Records was spoiled by their cash cow producers (The Beatles and The Beach Boys) and only wanted more of the same stuff that paid their salaries, and yet couldn't see the "art" part even as it was smacking them in their corporate faces! This album, Pet Sounds, spawned a deeper penetration into mainstream pop music of artistically developed poetry and music. Now we were getting exposed to productions that challenged our senses: abstract forms like "MacArthur's Park", self-divulgences like "17" by Laura Nyro, and of course John Lennon's 2 great anthems "All You Need Is Love" & "Give Peace A Chance".
....all thanks to this work of angst...I mean, ART, by Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys - "Pet Sounds". And this package is a fine tribute to its existence...with a Bonus DVD too!
What's better than Pet Sounds?.......2006-11-10
The essence of Brian Wilson. The full bodied sound to the ear not unlike fine wine is to the pallet. This great package gives you your choice of production, both mono and stereo and caters to all the diehard Beach Boys fans with a variety of things, including a DVD to enjoy. A must have for those who never experienced Pet Sounds at its fullest. After all, this is one of the most important albums of all time!

Album Description
A STUNNING CD RELEASE BY KAREN MARIE GARRETT AND LEGENDARY PRODUCER WILL ACKERMAN, creator of Windham Hill Records, gold and platinum record producer, and Grammy Award-Winning recording artist.
Recorded between George Lucas' Skywalker Sound Studios in Marin County, California and Mr. Ackerman's Imaginary Road Studio in Windham County, Vermont.
VICTORY REVIEW; ACOUSTIC MUSIC RESOURCE OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST; TOM PETERSEN
"Karen Marie Garrett is a top-drawer pianist headed for bigger things. Allure of Sanctuary is the Olympia artist's third release, following a straight classical disc and another in this New Age vein. This new release is as soothing as it's intended, but it's also energizing. Where a lot of New Age is so light it begins to drift and grow unidentifiable, Garrett's compositions are distinct, with melodies for the listener to hook into. It's billed as New Age, but several cuts qualify as Light Jazz - very mellow Vince Guaraldi, perhaps. Thus, Garrett is a distinctive new artist in this field and could, with the right promotion, see herself at the top of the New Age charts (Allure is already getting significant airplay on Easy Listening stations). It won't hurt a bit that she is a pupil of the founder of the New Age genre, Will Ackerman; nor do dead-enders get invited to record their albums at Skywalker ranch, using Lucas's Bluthner grand!
Get this album, neighbors - you can say you "knew her when."
Reaches #8 on Top 100 New Age Radio Charts in just FIVE weeks!

Allure of Sanctuary is an outstanding album. The music seems to draw you in and want to play it over again
Allure of Sanctuary.......2007-05-13
I received this as an Easter present and it is one of the best CD's I have heard in a long time. The music is wonderful.
A Brilliant Piano Album (reviewed by Stephen Cairns at [...]).......2006-12-09
What an amazing album! This is Karen Marie Garrett's third album, and it is a real find. I am immensely impressed with the delightful melodies which run consistently throughout this album. Tip-Toe Dancer has to be heard to be believed. It is such a beautiful piece of music, and makes the listener want to stand up and start dancing. This track is just one of an album full of highlights. Welcome B and Simple Things are so delicate. This album is produced by Windham Hill founder Will Ackerman. Consequently, the production is first-class. A joy from beginning to end. Bravo!!
Allure of Sanctuary.......2006-07-19
Soothing, relaxing music to release tension and smooth out those tight muscles.
from Solo Piano Publications.......2005-11-14
"Allure of Sanctuary" is the second CD released by Karen Marie Garrett. It is astounding how much this artist has grown since her 2002 debut, "Pensare Piano." Will Ackerman's gifts as producer certainly helped to make this CD as breathtaking as it is, but if the quality of music isn't there, no producer in the world can give it soul and depth - and this CD has mega-doses of both. A classically-trained pianist from the age of five, Ms. Garrett plays with the strength and emotional clarity that come from years of expressing oneself at the piano, sharing the joys and sorrows of life with the beloved 88's. The twelve pieces include eight original compositions, a lovely arrangement of "The Green Hills" by Brian Gibson, and Erik Satie's "Trois Gnossiennes," performed as originally composed. Most of the pieces are piano solo, but Garrett is joined on two by award-winning cellist Eugene Friesen (I LOVE cello and piano together!). Some of the other tracks have English horn, light percussion, and wordless vocals, but this is truly an incredible piano album.
The CD begins with "Tip-Toe Dancer (Kathryn's Song)," one of the lighter pieces in this collection. It was inspired by a story told by a close friend about a childhood dance performed for friends and family. Graceful yet playful, it is easy to imagine the seriousness of the young dancer and the warm reception of the adults. "Lake EWOK Muse" is an improvisational duet for piano and cello that followed a sunrise meditation beside Lake EWOK at Skywalker Ranch, where the album was recorded. The feeling of serenity envelops you as you listen to the two artists interact seamlessly, creating a perfect sense of peace. "Simple Things" is a celebration that begins in a classical style reminiscent of a children's piano study and evolves, retaining the sweet melody and simplicity of the message but becoming a full and graceful solo. The title track is fascinating. It begins with a mournful piano prelude and becomes a rhythmic dance with a seductive Spanish flavor. Susan Whittle's vocals and percussion provided by Will Ackerman and Derrick Jordan add to the enchantment. "Will's Song" is an improvisational piece that is so deeply felt that it almost sends a chill - what a beauty! "Toll of War (Adagio)" is a wrenching duet for piano and cello. A profound statement of humanity rather than of politics, the sense of loss and pain reach to the depths of the soul. This is a piece that needs to be heard. The gentle, pensive closing track is a solo piano reprise of "Lake EWOK Muse."
"Allure of Sanctuary" is a must-have CD!

Amazon.com essential recording
Whether it's Elvis, the Beatles, Louis Armstrong, or Hank Williams, one challenge to the recording industry is sustaining an evergreen artist's appeal to succeeding generations. Hank's legacy has received treatment ranging from the ridiculous (oily overdubbed strings on 1960s LPs) to the sublime (the 10-CD Complete Hank Williams). This generously programmed, 42-track compendium of essentials, a live Opry performance, and four radio transcriptions aims at newcomers for whom wading through the plethora of reissues can be difficult. Some may have discovered Hank as a seminal American artist. Curious younger listeners may know him as a charter icon of the alt-country scene or as Hank Williams III's grandpa. Either way, the packaging here ably introduces Hank--instead of preaching to the converted--with vintage photos and graphics and producer Kira Florita's elemental notes. In all, it makes the joy of discovering Hank a whole lot easier. --Rich Kienzle

Great Music.......2007-03-20
Being a Hank Sr. fan since I first heard him in 1949 I have everything he ever recorded on record and had hoped to have all of it on CD, now my wish is slowly cming true. There is no greater singer than the late Hank Williams!! The only recording I lack on CD is the 'Luke The Drifter' one now. Aneone who likes his music should buy this one.
I REMEMBER HANK.......2006-08-29
I have spent almost an hour reading all the reviews on Hank. I remember Hank -- I saw him at the Grand Ole Opry, when he appeared in Chicago, and anytime he was close enough to Chicago for me to get to the theater.
When I heard of Hank's death I sat down and cried.
(Guess that gives my age away -- 75 yrs.)
I guess I can't be called a completest. I purchased the Ultimate Collection and 20 Greatest Hits because they have all the songs I really like -- no, love -- on them. Hank had a way of telling the story in his songs. I sometimes thought he was telling my story in some of his songs.
However, since the completest sets have been mentioned think I'll look them up and check them over.
One thing about Hank's songs -- he has been dead for a long time now and his songs are still being played and sung. That in itself is a tribute to Hank Williams.
No matter which albumn you get you will not be disappointed. They are all timeless. You will not be disappointed.

"For the new Hank Sr. fan , this is what you need".......2004-05-20
Back in the 60's a nice two record set of Hank's top hits came out and I had a friend that owned the set. I borrowed it and made a good recording on 7 in. reels with my then Akia-reel to reel recording deck. This CD set carries most of the songs that were on that double LP set. I think that this CD set is "Great" for the person who wants to get some of Hank's basic stuff, but after visiting a music store and seeing a set that I didn't know existed called "The Complete Hank Williams/10 CD box set" I made up my mind that for a true Old Time Collector of "REAL" Country music like myself this set is the only way to go! The 2CD set that this review is about is exceptional and has a lot of Hank's Favorites and if you are looking for some good basic stuff from Hank -buy it- But I have my sites set on the Big Box and as soon as I pick it up I'll be sure and give you all an honest review on that set also ! "ENJOY"
Really Good but 40 Greatest and Original Singles are better.......2004-04-10
If you are looking to own a basic two disc set of Hank, order 40 Greatest Hits used. What you really need to do is to buy the three disc set Original Singles Collection. The 10 disc set, Complete Hank Williams is a bit too costly, although great for the die hard fan. Avoid this "Ultimate Collection" if you can get your hands on any of the three I mentioned. The last six songs are live, not the original studio versions, the demos on here, though good, replace many other big hits found on the other sets. This collection is more of a companion to the first two listed above.
A Stellar Collection.......2004-02-04
More than fifty years after his untimely death, Hank Williams' influence is still felt across the landscape of popular music. He is one of the few recording artists to have been inducted into both the COuntry Music Hall of Fame (1961) and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1987). Although regarded principally as a country artist, he was at heart a poet, putting into music and words the heartache, pain and loneliness that ultimately consumed him before his thirtieth birthday.
To not have any Hank Williams in your music collection is to leave a gaping hole. The problem is there are some three dozen anthologies to pick from. Is THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION the best? Maybe not, but it has much to offer. The sound quality is very good. The 28-page booklet has plenty of pictures, serviceable liner notes (written by Kira Florita, co-author of "Hank Williams: Snapshots from the Lost Highway"), and recording dates for all 42 tracks. All the biggest hits are here ("Honky Tonkin'," "Cold, Cold Heart," "Hey, Good Lookin'," "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)," et.al.). There are a couple of his songs recorded as Luke the Drifter, including the weeper, "I Dreamed About Mama Last Night." CD-1 is presented chronologically, but CD-2 skips around after the first four tracks. Also, (as noted in other reviews) the last six tracks are radio transcriptions. "Why Don't You Love Me" and "Moanin' the Blues" are from a 1950 Grand Ole Opry Show; the final four tracks are taken from a 1949 WSM "Health & Happiness" radio show. The sound on these final tracks are the equal of his studio recordings and if anything add a more intimate and relaxed feel to these performances in front of a live audience.
Overall, this is an excellent overview of Williams' career, and will more than adequately provide the neophyte fan with an understanding of the legend of Hank Williams. [Running Time: Disc 1-59:29, Disc 2-50:05] HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Like no other - multi faceted - absorbs any attention level.......2006-10-13
To think that Peter plays "behind" Jimmy Buffett. It just goes to show that their is no equal for just being in the right place at the right time. The though of them going head to head on a equal stage ------ not a fair contest!!
Earth Town Square.......2006-06-29
Peter Mayer's beautiful words and arrangement of the hymn HYFRYDOL by Rowland Prichard was what drew me to this well-crafted CD. The other tunes only add to this very musical CD. Clear voiced, beautiful acoustic work, and lyrics that stand out make this a CD I can sit back and listen to, or many times I just grab my harmonica and play along. Mayer is a terrific musician.
Poetry never sounded better........2004-09-07
When we praise the "poetry" of songwriters, the standard is usually not very high. We can be pretty pleased when a song rises a bit above the banal. This CD is, however, musical poetry of an entirely higher sort. Peter Mayer's songwriting is a treat. Felicitous images flow in an unbroken, delightful stream.
Start with the first cut on the CD. "Ocean Mary" is a woman who lives by a magic stream. She has a dream: "She imagined that, inside, stirred all the waters of the earth. Every puddle, every creek and every one of the Seven Seas. She could feel the fishes roam in her fingers and her toes. And in her chest, the Gulf Stream flow."
That would be enough to recommend this remarkable album, but Mayer's singing is just as pleasing. He has a clear, resonant voice that reminds me of James Keelaghan. I've been so swept away by the lyrics and singing that I have paid less attention to his guitar skills, but he's good.
There's more. Mayer is a wonderful tunesmith, at least to judge by this CD. One of my favorite tunes is "Blue Boat Home," a highly singable and fetching melody that perfectly matches the elegaic sentiments of the song.
Maybe other people are luckier than I am, but I don't find albums I enjoy this much very often. Discovering Earth Town Square is perhaps the nicest thing to happen to me lately. Peter Mayer has created an album that is like a great friend. It has a lot to say and a wonderful way of saying it. You just love spending time with it.
A Consummate Artist.......2004-04-10
Peter is equally gifted in all areas of his craft. His songwriting is deep and passionate, clever and accessible, emanating from a mind that is sublimely curious about life, love, science, and people, and a heart that skips a beat in wonder at the miracle of it all. On top of this he is a superb guitar player and has a compelling and lovely voice. At one concert I heard an audience member saying they'd come from three states away to hear him -- and I know why. It's not just the way he performs or writes; it's the way he thinks. I would recommend this album to anyone, of any age. He will lift you up from your life!
Can't say enough good things about Peter Mayer!.......2004-01-17
This man is brilliant. Listening to his work is one great discovery after another.
First you hear a lovely song - nice tune, maybe some catchy lyrics - and you smile and tap or hum along.
Then you really listen to the lyrics and you hear layers of meaning - funny wordplays and intellectual ideas that no ordinary songwriter could touch. (When is the last time you heard a song about physics that captured the essence of some complicated scientific concepts, had spiritual resonance, and was fun to listen to? Probably never - until you've heard 'World of Dreams' from Bountiful.)
Then you see him play live and you realize that nearly all of those wonderful sounds are coming from one man with one guitar. Percussion, melody, you name it and he's playing it all at the same time. But that's not to say that his sound is bare - quite the contrary! He knows when to bring in maracas, accordians, mandolins, or other instruments to augment his amazing guitar and compelling voice without overwhelming them.
The end result is funny, smart, and above all beautiful. Metaphysical lullabies and sailing songs, humorous warnings about magic water, spiritual carnies, the simple joys the county fair, and a perfect Thanksgiving holiday tune to top it off. This album is his best yet.

POLKA IS BACK!.......2004-08-19
I can't believe how inspirational this CD has been to me. I have spent countless nights with it on repeat just listening in amazement. It's because of this CD that I've given in to the powers of POLKA! Everyone should buy a copy, and then, a BACK-UP copy just in case some cat eats the first one. VIVA LA POLKA! OLE!
This Album changed my life.......2004-07-08
Well its finally happened. I've given up my Allegiance to the Dark Night (Ozzy), and its all this album's fault.
This album made me fall in love with a music gendre all over again.
I remember Dancing to these songs at my family weddings. The dancing, the tickeling, the good and awkward times. Getting to know my family in ways that didn't seem possible. It all seems like a dream. But I'm not waking up screaming anymore!!
The too fat polka really brought back a flood of memories. Memories that I've been suppressing for a long time and now have the courage to deal with.
I say thank you to the World's Greatest Polka Package.....Thank you.
John
Well, it's a package, I guess.......2001-11-07
This CD might as well be called Polka Dance Party, Volume 5. Like Volumes 1 through 4, which have also been named Polka's Greatest Hits, this collection of old, probably public-domain material leaves a lot to be desired. The sound is weak in both the volume and bass departments, and the Whoopee John tracks sound as though they were recorded directly from shellac 78's recorded in the 1940s. Stick to the better Frankie Yankovic releases, such as Songs of the Polka King Volumes 1 and 2.
tunes for remembering.......2000-11-28
Whether you grew up listening and dancing to polka music, or are just discovering the joy of the upbeat polka, this album will make you want to celebrate the joy of living. Old favorites like the Beer Barrel Polka are familiar to all, while the album contains some more obscure polkas which perhaps you haven't heard before. This package is enjoyed by my 76 year old father and my 11 year old son.

Lights and Sounds is a statement of intent: Yellowcard has grown up. Never "just kids" to begin with, the California-by-way-of-Florida quintet tackles thornier subjects than on 2003's Ocean Avenue, while taking a more ambitious approach towards their already proficient musicianship. Sean Mackin's surprisingly well integrated violin playing has always been a big part of their sound, but now they've upped the ante. Their third album doesn't just open with a pretty piano-based instrumental ("Three Flights Up"), but leads to a 25-piece orchestra, along with Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks, on "How I Go." It may sound pretentious, but they make the unusual combination (pop-punk plus classical) work. On their second major label effort, Yellowcard comes across as serious to be sure--and this is nothing new--but not pretentious or silly. Affairs of the heart are as important as ever, but charismatic frontman Ryan Key has other matters on his mind. On "Two Weeks from Twenty," featuring Printz Board of the Black Eyed Peas, he sings, "We lost another one that we sent with a gun / They're gonna miss him he was two weeks from twenty." Then on "Words, Hands, Hearts," he laments, "The whole world is different now men have died." No longer bright-eyed teenagers, Yellowcard hasn't lost hope and their compassion remains boundless, but the times have changed, and so have they. --Kathleen C. Fennessy
Album Description
"Lights and Sounds" is a bigger, broader album from their platinum debut album "Ocean Avenue," that finds Yellowcard moving away from songs about breakups and onto more expansive themes of artifice, war, and adulthood. The guitars are tougher, the songs more intricate and encompass a wider spectrum of musical styles, which is evident the title track.
Customer Reviews:
3-1/2 stars -- Deal with it.......2006-04-26
Before I get started, I have one question. What exactly is Ryan Mendez' purpose? He is listed as one of the members of the band, and he's in the picture with the rest of the band, but after that there is no mention of him; it doesn't say what instrument he plays, and he's not listed as having written or produced any of the songs. I don't know if that was an error on the CD manufacturer's part, or if he really doesn't do anything, or...
Anyway, Ocean Avenue is a very hard album to top, but Ryan Key and the boys do a pretty good job with their latest, Lights and Sounds. Musac Critic and Matthew Berdan's reviews are pretty accurate, and it IS true that the guys have a more mature sound on here, especially on "Down On My Head", which sounds a little like early Green Day. But it was a good choice to release the title track as the first single because it's the strongest cut on the album.
Other good songs include "Sure Thing Falling" and the smooth "City of Devils". But by the time you reach the second half on the album, things go a little downhill. It's not that the songs are terrible, but most of them fail to pack a punch like the songs on their previous album (and it's not because they're more mellow songs). Also, when the guys try to go political, they hit ("Words, Hands, Hearts") and miss ("Two Weeks From Twenty").
But Lights and Sounds is still a good album. I don't agree with the people that are comparing them to Coldplay and Keane (although I like both of those bands), but Yellowcard still have enough going for them.

I was a fan of Yellowacard as soon as I bought Ocean Avenue. (check it out) When this one came out I decided to pre-order it! I put it in the cd player and it was awesome! This is a must-buy. The music is great and the DVD extras are fantastic. it's choc-full of interviews and "the making of". Best CD I've bought all year. Great Buy! P.S. This album is not like "Ocean Avenue" at all, this album takes risks and explains stories on whats going on in the World today, but it also has a touch of "One of the Kids" sound to it but truely it's an album that you have to get use to because it's very different.
The only thing I don't like about this album is Ryan Key's vocals, I think their very unprofressional but yet has some good lyrics on the whole album. I also don't like the fact that Ben Harper got released and believe me he was a KEY member in the band so I don't agree with Yellowcard's decisons really.
The single "Lights and sounds" is the most played song on TV and Radio, believe it or not their album sales went sky rocking and could knock off the famous "Ocean Avenue".
The 3 Singles I don't like are..
"GRAY"-It's a lame song that the band tries to be tough but has no surport to it.
"How I go"- The intro of the song is really bad, Ryan Key's Vocals are horrible in this song and it has no rythem to a slow beat song...yet the end is pretty good.
"City of Devils"-Again, not a song that I recomand that you will like, the vocals are not good and it sounds like it's a "Last minute" track added to the album...but surprizing the ending is good so I don't know whats going on with the Intros.
Overall the album is great, I like the fast beat songs and it really beats out their previous album....this album is way better but the vocals are not great.
If your a "Ocean Avenue" pop fan..you wont liek this album.

If you like Yellowcard, or just good music.......2006-03-09
This is an absolutely great CD. Yellowcard has a great sound, and they've expanded on it with this CD, while still making it so you can listen and say, yes thats Yellowcard. The music is talented and lyrics are meaningful. If you haven't given Yellowcard a chance yet, give them this one, and I'm sure you'll be hunting for their older stuff.

Herrmann's legendary score in all its glory........2000-09-01
This release should silence any and all individuals that complain about skimpy soundtrack releases, this edition contains every piece of music in the film.
And no one should ever forget that Bernard Herrmann was one of the all time great composers of film music, and his score for Psycho was his most famous work. Although copied and parodied countless times since it was first heard, nothing has everycome close to its blood chilling power. No film soundtrack library would be complete without it.
