If its' not broke, don't fix it!.......2006-10-12
**1/2.
There are some minor changes made to this instant masterpiece that takes away from the original. The songs don't link together correctly after each track ends. "Other side of the game" is now the last song and it sounds odd because you can still hear the "Society is the menace" ending on the beginning of the track. The last two songs, "Alot of Thangz" and "Recognize Me" were cut shorter. JT, if you're going to rerelease a classic album, don't be lazy about it. I recommend fans to buy the original 1994 print used, if they can find it.
JT The Bigga Figga's Masterpiece.......2006-09-21
"Thirty years from now, I'll still sound tight"-Black Nate on track 12 "Recognize Me".
SMC rereleased this classic underground Bay Area album that came out of the Get Low Records camp in the summer of 1994. The formula follows the format of Dr. Dre's "The Chronic". The independent CEO that can rap, produce and showcase the talent that's signed to his label. The outcome is thirteen tracks of street knowledge that incorporates muslim teachings, survival tactics, with hard lyrics over brilliant dark production that could be a soundtrack for horror/exploitation flicks.
The only difference with this version is that "Other Side of The Game" is the last track instead of "Recognize Me". I guess JT thought it made more sense because the message of the song and all three of the main group members appear on it, JT, San Quinn, and D-moe. Most of the albums that came out of Get Low Records in the early 90's are dope material but this record is the highlight of JT's genius. Listen to the first track, an instrumental simply titled "Allah and JT". You will be convinced.

Customer Reviews:
a bay area classic.......2003-10-28
A classic of early 90s bay area rap. Contemporaries include mac mall, JT tha Bigga Figga (a member of GLP), Spice 1, e-40, 4-tay, San Quinn, etc. The bay had its own flavor at the time, raw and creative without being overly underground or even overly gangsta. As an album, Straight out the Labb is probably the best of them all, great beats and lyrics from beginning to end. Another classic of the era was JT tha Bigga Figgas solo album, but the beats on that LP were not quite as nice...
to the previous reviewer.......2003-09-28
to the previous reviewer: that's the way the spell "labb"!!!!!It's not mispelling they did it on purpose!! If you don't know anything about our hip hop culture or the funk of ebonics, please take your jundgement back and please dont' be so clueless!! Give yoself a reality check!!! or else just do your own thing and let other people do their own thing like spelling "lab" as "labb"....feel me !!!
Grammatical errors galore..........2003-07-26
Perusing the lyrics compendium for Get Low Playaz' "Straight Out Tha Labb", I was dumbfounded at the sheer number of grammatical and spelling errors I encountered. Was a text editor too hard for the Get Low Playaz to employ? Even the album title contains the unfortunate "labb" misspelling. Perhaps a malfunctioning spellcheck system?
