Excellent CD. Doreen has a very soothing voice spoken in a relaxed manner. The soft music in the background enhances the relaxed mood without becoming a focus in itself. The script she uses is concise enough to provide adequate guidance yet open-ended enough to make listining to it a very personal experience which can be listened to again and again as if it were the first time.

I bought this cd along with several others. After awhile this has become my favorite. It's not the words or imagery, and this might sound wierd.
I tried it out recently on a higher quality system with expensive speakers. It may just be me, but it has the effect of percodan or loritab (pain medication).
Something about her voice, on the high end speakers multiplies the effect of relaxing me, even as I'm sitting up with eyes open. On my $100 stereo it's nothing special although still my favorite.

This CD is a strange mix of things -- from a guided imagery trip to a tale about a boy building a wall. Whatever. The bottom line is that it puts me to sleep almost every time. I can't remember the last time I heard the CD to the end. Maybe only twice out of 60 playings.

I can still have problems staying asleep (insomnia and mild sleep apnea) but that's another issue.

My wife has a bunch of Wendi Freisen CDs which absolutely do not work for me. Where Wendi's voice grates and annoys, Doreen's voice is, "like buttah".

Highly recommended.

Sweet sleep!.......2006-08-25

I bought this for my husband to help with his relaxation and sleep. Not only does he love it, but I do to! I put it in my DVD player at night, set the tv for auto shut off and Doreen knocks me out! I've been sleeping so well myself since listening to her. She has a great voice for relaxation, and I've yet to hear the whole cd! I also gave this to my mom who has problems with sleeping and she dittos what I've said.

the first time I've seen anything about this band is the day I've seen on TV DIG! (go see it now!), the 7-years long documentary about the controversal relationship between BJM and Dandy Warhols, and in particular between Anton and Dandy's leader and songwriter (I don't even remember his name).
Then I bought this album, and I understood why everybody stay around this guy for a while is totally ipnotized: he's guided by sacred flame of art, his songs are made by the flow the goes through his body and his soul, with no sophistication at all.
I can say BJM is the most powerful example of uncontaminated music in America these days.

This album shows the genius and brilliant versatility of the Brian Jonestown Massacre! To me this music is incredibly important. It was recorded in 1996 so this is well before any 'rock revival' stuff coming out now. This is honest music that channels the eternal air of beat spirit.

Took me back.......2007-01-06

I remember eagerly staying awake for the premier of this series when I was nine and being glued to the screen. This CD awoke lots of memories, all of them good. It's got me humming the old tunes all over again.

The CD took a small hit in my view as I actually prefer the original version of the opening them to the slightly different arrangement found here, but the rest of the tracks are more than fine. If you at all like the original version of Galactica, I think you would find it hard to go wrong with this.

Great Score, But Bad Remaster.......2005-09-02

I would give 5 stars for excellent music, but have to give only 3 stars for a terrible remaster. It sounds like someone turned the Treble all the way up and turned the Bass down to zero! It has a very thin, metalic sound to it. Also, the reverb is way over done, as the other reviewers have mentioned. It's to the point where things are so blended together that you can't distinguish the individual instruments. My original vinyl record is better sound quality then this (if you overlook the clicks or pops). I would recommend the June 29, 1999 re-recording with Stu and the Royal Orchestra over this one. On the re-recording the horns blast through loud and clear and the bass blows you out of your seat. You can hear every instrument very clearly as if you are sitting right in front of the orchestra. The music is fantastic and I think the Battlestar Galactica theme is one of the best ever written. Also, the Exploration theme and Base Star (Imperious Leader) theme are amazing.

It's strange-- just a few days ago, I was rifing through some old stuff from my childhood (old toys, a pile of very old Starlog Magazines)and noticed an ad in a Starlog for this in its old LP format, back when the show was actually on-air. I remember being a little kid and wishing I could send in for it.

Well, fast forward to yesterday, and I'm rifing through various cd soundtracks in my local cd/dvd wherehouse/bonanza/free-for-all store, and there it was. And by God, it was in cd format! And yes, it was ORIGINAL! Not re-performed by some Scottish Orchestra a couple of years ago! Immediately, it was in my greedy hands, helplessly going along with me to my home.

First off, this cd has liner notes. It's not just flimsy repros of the front and back of the old LP. Glen Larson, Stu Phillips, and Richard Hatch all pitch in with recollections about the show, with Phillips's being the most memorable (John Williams coming by to listen to the theme to see if any Star Wars was in there, in case Lucasfilm wanted to sue).

The sound quality is great, no hiss or tininess. The only gripe I have is that the strings sound a little too "smooth." Don't know if that makes sense, but they sound a little too reverbed, concert-hallish. But hey, if that's all I can come up with to complain, then this is a winner!

Some people may think of Battlestar Galactica as a hokey show that sums up the era of disco, I don't happen to be one of them however!

One thing most people can agree on whether they be a fan or not, is that the theme to Battlestar Galactica is one of the most memorable of TV themes!

Here you get the pieces that went with the first episode that was broadcast - Saga of a Star World, but many of the themes pop up again further along in the series.

The score is a big score for TV, played by the LA Philharmonic no less, and in my humble opinion, composer Stu Phillips's finest work.

Good soundtrack.......2004-08-10

If I was asked who has the best soundtrack,Galactica or Star Wars,it would be a tie.I especially like the track Red Nova on the Galactica soundtrack.I listen to samples of the new Galactica soundtrack and so far so good.There is a question being asked about the rivalry between the two sci-fi epics of Galactica and Star Wars.When it comes to the music,both are good.Now if George Lucas could come up with better material of what he used in the Phantom Menance and Attack of the Clones and The space battles between the Colinial Empire and the Cylons increases in the future episodes.

This single is incredible, I cant wait for the new release. I have all of kid606's albums, this one is a little bit different, but still completely freaking awesome. Go buy it now, if you are already a fan of glitch, or if yoo are just getting into glitch buy this album as its easier to get into than some of his other stuff.

An excellent introduction to both the life and the work.......2001-08-10

Not having known very much at all about Chopin, I cannot vouch for the accuracy in the Naxos entry in their CD and cassette Biography series; but I can vouch for the enjoyment (NA 421912) afforded me.

Written and produced by Jeremy Siepmann, this audio-bio not only tells the strange story of Chopin's life but also includes generous examples of his music, drawn from the bottomless pit of Naxos musical CDs. An excellent idea was to use actors for the voices of Chopin (Anton Lesser), George Sand and other females in his life (Elaine Claxton and Karen Archer), and other male acquaintances (Neville Jason). It is the kind of reading that would fascinate even if the work were fictional.

His letters are particularly fascinating, especially as they are read dramatically by the small cast; and one would rather hear about all his faults--physical and psychological--from people who knew him well. Perhaps his strange epistolary relationship with his Titus is dwelt upon a bit too much, but such are the times (then and now).

My only criticism in a negative direction is the length of the musical examples. I do not really think the entire "Revolutionary Etude" had to be played or the entire "Funeral March"; a minute or two with a fadeout would have been fine, especially on repeated hearings where one wants the facts. Nevertheless, highly recommended.

Lightning Can Strike Twice.......1999-12-02

In 1995, my ears were graced by the dark yet hypnotic sounds of Oneiroid Psychosis. By fortune, the band lived only minutes from me. Since then, I have been the audio concubine to their music. The first album "Stillbirth" was dark, creepy, and more traditional industrial machine. Fantasies About Illness progresses in originality and introduces us to a more aggressive and spooky side of their personas. Lars'vocals have vastly improved and change appropriately with each new mood. While "Midnight Mist" is up-tempo and spooky, "Influence of Orgaism" starts so casual, so quiety morbid, you would never expect the thunderous yet melodicaly lush conclusion. Though the album seems to fight between two facets of musical direction, calm machine and raw aggresion, the brothers Hansen accomplish the mixture rather smoothly. A must buy for all fans of original music, period.

I wasn't sure if I'd like this, but my friends assured me I would. I listened to it, hesitantly. And now... I LOVE IT! I listen to it again and again and again. I listen to it in the car, at home, as I walk to the store - wherever I can, whenever I can. Don't hesitate - get it!

A double stuff Oreo amidst generic cookies.......1998-07-07

I read a review of this band that stated that finding their music was like finding a double stuff Oreo in the middle of a bunch of generic cookies, and I couldn't think of a better way to say it. I listen to this CD, and all of OP's CDs often. It's addictive, it's eerie, it's beautiful... These brothers show true talent, originality, and style. The music swirls around you and lifts you to a higher consciousness... It can make you feel things you didn't even know you could feel. This is a CD you HAVE to have...
