Customer Reviews:
Great Hip Hop album.......2007-05-29
No doubt about it. The album has earned it's cult status as a great hip hop album, both in terms of content and all around originality. Well that and the fact that it's been discontinued for many years. Which brings me to another thought. Would you sellers consider lowering the price for used copies of this album? $70.00 for a used (very good) copy of this album? That is completely outrageous. For that price, I'd like to purchase some blood along with the CD. Stop abusing the marketplace and keep it the same respectable and reasonable place to buy the music and films we all love. Long live the marketplace.
ESSENTIAL 90S HIP HOP!!!!.......2007-01-28
i was trying to find this gem at your ordinary everyday music store, and when i looked this up, it said that this was OUT OF PRINT!!!!! WHAT!!!! why is it that the best and least appreciated ones are always out of print? from beginning to end, this right here is one of the most enjoyable hip hop albums of the early 90s. when i think of this album, which i recently FINALLY found here, i think about BUG A BOO and destiny's child. i also love DEDICATED TO THE RIGHT WINGERS, SPEAK UPON IT, SHE SAID IT WAS GREAT, and of couse, I GOT TO HAVE IT!!!!! when i had to give up the cassette of this, i absolutely hated myself for it. now that i got it again, i will hold this close and dear like a faded memory come back to clarity.
OFF DA CHAIN!!!!!!.......2006-06-28
most rapper r known to be from new york or new jersey, but this cat here from boston, mass........this is an mc ppl have slept on! this album was one of the tightest i had heard in 1991, i was still in high school at the time. too bad he didn't get the airplay nor the props he deserved. i bought the tape when he first came out, years later, i bought the cd and i still listen to it to this day. my personal fav on this album besides "i gotta have it", is "gotta have money", he's speaking of nothing but the stone truth on that track! i believe if he made a comeback with his rappin skills and had somebody like swiss beats, kanye west and or the neptunes putting their hands on the album.....it'll definitely go platinum!
It's different, so don't compare it to another..........2006-05-12
Get it? Good. Now ignore any criticisms of this album that say its too "nice", or "soft" or "cheesy"...because that's just the ignorant view. "Life of a kid in the ghetto" is one of the best albums to come out of 1991,along w/Main Source's - Breaking Atoms, with Ed O.G.'s inspiring councious lyrics and Teddy Tedd,Special K & Joe Mansfield's fresh beats this album is undoubtedly is one of the most slept on hiphop albums yet. Ed O.G. Touches upon so many important issues here, that are told like it is. "Be a father to your child" is my favourite track on the album, speakin upon the issue of father's leaving their children to be cared for by the mother, and not carrying out their responsibilites as man. This is one of the most hard-hitting and down to earth tracks ever, regardless of genre. Then, you have "speak upon it" where Ed decides to talk about the injustices of being a black man, and uses examples like Charles Stewart to emphasise how biased the court system can be. Tracks like "I'm different" talks about why they are different to other groups, and what makes them. Similary "I got to have it", which samples Big Daddy Kane's "Aint no half steppin" is a timeless classic, with its unforgettable funky beat & flawless flow. This album is too slept on, and needs to be checked out by mainly people who are a fan of hiphop back when it meant something, and was used as a way for opinionated black men to express their views. Do not sleep. (By the way Edo G is still doin his thing 13 years later with pete rock on "My own worst enemy"...check it out) PEACE
