An odd mish-mosh of mixes...some collectibles..........2006-06-20
This bizarre compilation could probably have benefited from a 2 disc set, considering some of their dance chart hits and mixes were left off and I believe a couple of these mixes are edits...I know for sure "Thrill Me" has about a half a minute shaved off. And the inclusion of the Club 69 DUB of "Ain't That a Lot of Love" is a HUGE disappointment, considering the vocal mix has never surfaced on CD as far as I know. Then there's the inclusion of a later house mix of Money's Too Tight and not the original 12" (although, this version is very hot). I'm sure other's might have some gripes about some of the song selection, but I think everyone could have been happy if the label had really gone for it and given us a 2-disc set. Track times:
1. fairground (5:33)
2. holding back the years (5:41)
3. it's only love (5:46)
4. the right thing (5:34)
5. ain't that a lot of love (6:36)
6. money's too tight (7:24)
7. Jericho (6:01)
8. come to my aid (5:03)
9. thrill me (5:26)
10. your eyes (4:41)
11. love has said goodbye again (5:14)
12. ghetto girl (3:44)
13. angel (4:07)

Customer Reviews:
Typical Disco Dance Remixes.......2006-04-28
If you like the Talking Heads and you like disco remixes, you will love this CD.
In the later days of disco (after the classic period of the Donna Summer and the Bee Gees), it was common to take New Wave music and electronically remix and extend it. These were sold as EP's, which were basically singles on a 12 inch record and played in discos. Some of the extended mixes were very good. One of my favorites was Blonde's Rapture. Others were done poorly or were just annoying. That is what I think of most of the ones on this CD.
The best extended disco mixes included involvement from the band with new music being recorded and being edited in to the original. The worst consisted of outsiders taking the music and just looping sections of it. The Thomas Dolby 12 x 12 is very good.
Most of the tracks here are extended just by simply looping sections of it. This type of music is really a struggle to sit through. It is boring if you just sit and listen to it. If you have it in the background, the constant looping is just annoying. It is if you had an LP that got stuck.
Where there are new additions, they are just silly noises. There are whoop, whoops from Byrne. And nyeah, nyeah's from the band.
This music type of music is only of any value for dancing. So, if you turn you family room into a disco, with flashing lights and really loud stereo, you might enjoy it. However, I think there is much better dance music out there.
A much better dance CD and/or DVD from the Talking Heads is Stop Making Sense.
Drinking?.......2001-03-22
If you are my age (mid-thirties) then this collection of extended play classics will conjure images of only one thing:
Drinking in college.
Apart from the regrettable ommision of an extended cut of "Road to Nowhere," this collection hits on every hot track from "Little Creatures," and "True Stories."
If you went to NIU, you are attempting to refill a Growler Bucket while not loosing track of some girl who only calls you while she's drunk, and loves the song "And She Was."
These Talking Head songs were tailor made to be stretched and syncopated, and this collection is nicely mastered are artfully aranged.
Such fun.
So, 4-stars sober, 5 after a bucket or two.
Refreshes songs that were already greats.......2001-02-27
I'm a big fan of the Talking Heads and must say that it is completely worth it. Not only is there a new spin on classicly great songs from their last wo albums, but occasionally it almost sounds like they teased out individual souns clips that are sometimes not theard in the original album recordings due to other louder or more intense sounds. Even David Byrne's voice sounds clearer sometimes. As a long time fan it's also nice to hear a kind of "new" album by my favorite band, especially with some longer versions of these songs. Wahoo!
A good listen for Talking Heads fans.......1999-08-24
I became a late fan of Talking Heads starting with the Little Creatures album. I worked backwards and now I love the whole catalog. I was at first very skeptical with this release. However, after my first listening of this CD I was very happy I bought it. It contains all of the 12" mixes from their later singles (Little Creatures-True Stories-Naked). The remixes enhance all of the songs and makes them different from the originals. My favorite was As She Was. The only tedious moment was the second mix of Blind. One remix was enough. Bottom line: Talking Heads fans will probably like this 71 minute CD. It will make you look forward to the new Stop Making Sense.

Customer Reviews:
One of those really great things that are nice to have........2001-06-04
I'm breaking my own rules here and I'm giving a five star rating to a collection. I tend to only buy album releases and singles. I stray pretty heavily from Best Of..'s or Greatest Hits. I find, often times a good amount of the original intent of an album is lost. It may sound eccentric, and it probably is. I usually like songs that are not hits and never show up on those types of releases anyway. (I have a friend, incidentally, if you think I'm strange or rigid. He only buys a bands debut album.)
Anyway, I love this "collection". I have the handsomer Orange and Blue cover that the import version boasts, unlike the cluttered newspaper montage American version. The content is the same, either way. I have a pretty substantial Talk Talk collection, I have all of their albums except their first The Party's Over (my tape of it, purchased in London in the Summer of 1988, has long since withered on a Honda's dashboard in the Californian Sun.)
I like Talk Talk. It would take me ages to hunt down all of these remixes, if they exist at all, and having them housed all together on one shiny CD is a wonderful thing. The truly standout tracks are the two of Such A Shame (a fantastic version of this also exists on the posthumous London 1986 which is a full concert recorded beautifully at Hammersmith Odeon over 15 years ago); Life's What You Make It; the long and winding Happiness Is Easy; Living In Another World; and of course, the early 80's smash hit Talk Talk, which I assume they've named themselves after. I do know that the first, premixed version of the song Talk Talk was put to record back in 1977 when lead singer Mark Hollis' older brother Ed Hollis (of Eddie and the Hot Rods) produced a compilation album of the up-n-coming punk acts. Mark Hollis band then was called The Reaction and they had two songs under their slim belts, Talk Talk and Talk Talk Talk Talk. That was a longtime ago.
The fact that Talk Talk emerged as part of that forgettable Neo-Romantics period in music when things were getting goofier by the minute, and then progressed progressively right at the peak of their prowess, meaning, just when they were getting good, they turned around and got much much better and shunned the music industry and tried their hardest not to have a hit single because they were so progressive they wanted a hit album. They succeeded on both counts. They had two very interesting, classic sounding albums and then quickly broke up. Nobody knew. I knew, simply by chance, as a young teenager, I was snatching up any record I could find by this band and ended up with the good ones without even knowing it. It's nice, therefore, that their is an album like this, this set of remixes, to remind us of what they ran from.
Where was this release when I was 15?
Extended Life!.......2000-08-13
The extended versions of the songs included on this release were done without the consent of the band, Talk Talk, and resulted in a law suit against EMI, which Talk Talk was victorious over. Although they were totally against this release I rather enjoyed some of the extended versions especially those from the Colour of Spring. These versions only added more to the extension of the legacy known as Talk Talk and they should be proud that someone had the courage to take on their complex sound and create dancable tracks. This in turn has helped reach a wider audience, notably those in the dance clubs, which in turn may have encouraged sales for the band.

Customer Reviews:
Everything the first album was...and more..........2001-12-21
Dissonance are steadily becoming one of the great female-fronted modern electronica acts, just behind Curve and Garbage. "Reincarnate" is everything their debut was: energetic, ambient, danceable, and above all brilliant. But this album takes it all a step further. With old songs remixed and rerecorded, there is a clear sign of the band maturing musically and lyrically. Cat Hall's vocals are incredible, possessing a menacing quality sure to send chills down the spine, and yet she's able to soar to those high ranges beautifully. David Sebrind's electronic textures are brilliantly textured and could compete even with KMFDM. The cover of "Eleanor Rigby" is interesting in its treatment of the classical Beatles song, but is not unbearable the way Godhead's cover was (I will never forgive that band for that...it had good instrumentation, but as a Beatles cover it sucked). Every song melds into the next, and yet while they all are in the same dark electronic vein, they don't sound so much alike that it's boring. Quite the opposite... Dissonance are a great new band and this album reaffirms them as a force to be reckoned with. Listen to this album!
