For anyone who enjoys the irreverent humor of South Park, there's plenty of it on this soundtrack. Stan, Kenny, Kyle, Eric, Sharon, Sheila, Terrance... all step up to the mic and deliver in a way the Chipmunks (their obvious musical influence) would never dare. The use of certain four- and five-letter words make this a less-than-appropriate gift for young 'uns, lest you be misled by the characters' cartoon status. Musically, it's mostly swooning cartoon music capped by the incessant ranting of the main characters. By the time you get to Michael McDonald, you may wonder what this "sophisticated" adult-contemporary singer is doing among the children of South Park and Saddam Hussein. Even Isaac Hayes performs not as a late-night Lothario but as his South Park character, Chef. His track is one of the eight that don't appear in the film but have been added to flesh things out. Weirdest of all: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush performing a straight rendition of "O Canada." Huh? --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars Best Animated Soundtrack.......2007-02-03

As far as animated soundtracks go, this is by far, one of the best. Every song that appears in the movie actually appears on the soundtracks. You don't always get that and for once we do. Way to Go!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Great...for the most part.......2006-02-19

Even though I'm not sure I'd call the movie one of my favorites, I've seen "South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" more times than I'd care to admit. The film's soundtrack is the reason why.

The songs that are in the movie proper are very nicely done. They manage to further the plot and develop characters and things like that, but they also meet their most important goal: they're hilarious. When I heard the soundtrack for the first time, it brought me to tears of laughter; even now, little details like the "Wooooo!" by the spontaneous chorus line in "Kyle's Mom's A B**ch" bring a smile to my face.

The interpretations are a mixed bag - and the rap ones are downright terrible - but they're not why you're interested in the CD. Even so, the new versions of "I Swear It (I Can Change)" and "What Would Brian Boitano Do? Pt. II," are very nicely done, and the cover of "O Canada" is so good that I still don't know why it wasn't anywhere in the film.

I'm sure it's mentioned in other reviews, but the soundtrack isn't exact. There are a few short songs missing. "Hell Isn't Good" is gone, as are the various verses of Stan's "There's The Girl That I Like." "Eyes Of A Child" has been moved; it was in the credits in the film, and doesn't really belong in the middle of the character section of the soundtrack where it was placed. Those are minor quibbles, though - everything that matters is here.

As long as you're not offended by semi-frequent swearing and some raunchy lyrics, this soundtrack is a joy to listen to.

If you enjoyed Feelin' Kinda Patton, 222 is the entire show, uncut. If you can find this album, it is entirely worth getting. The additional material, I've found, is perfect for long car trips with similarly-minded people or people who have never heard his performances. While both versions of the performance take a little bit of warming up, the result is rich, thoughtful comedy. If you like David Cross, Zach Galifianakis, or the late, great Mitch Hedberg, pick this up.

If those comedians don't appeal to you, maybe you should pick up some Brian Regan or Dane Cook or Larry the Cable Guy. Or Carlos Mencia. Or old DVDs of Howdy Doody.

Out Of Sight, with scraping, doomed halted guitar/drum rhythm, I'm hooked. The track and album are doomed to overplay in this house for a long time. Maybe it's reminiscent of Quicksand. I imagine, a modern amalgam of the songs Can Opener, Baphomet and Transparent from Slip.

5 out of 5 stars get this!.......2005-06-17

Forget NWA and all them other mainstream fools. This is REAL and they are REAL and do REAL s#it that a lot of them other people like snoop have nightmares about happening to him. Geto boys should have been known just as much or more than NWA and snoop. They originally started in 1986 with members Raheim, Jukebox, DJ Ready Red, and Sir Rap-A-Lot and used to feature little billy as a dancing dwarf who after a while joined the group and called himself bushwick bill. They broke up then in 1988 local rappers akshun who changed name to scarface and willie d joined bushwick and ready red and thats when s#it blew up and they got it together. This album is haaaard and tight all the way through start to finish. Theres timeless classics that will never be forgotten by a lot of people that know about the real s#it. The production is heavy and nicely mixed, but most of all, the flows rip through the tracks and just get your attention like they are supposed to. Bushwick, willy d and scarface were a triple threat not to be fu@ked with. Straight out of houston, texas they are all real and done more in the streets than what NWA had heard about. Bushwick bill is a dwarf and can knock out people twice his size. Hes a real gangsta and not one that just talks about it, mans been in enough s#it. I respect the geto boys and like and recommend all their work up to 96. So, if you want the REAL hardcore rap pick this up and put that other weak gangsta(party) s#it down. get this!! Later!

4 out of 5 stars Comedy.......2004-07-30

This album is a sampling of geto boys at their most comedic. The hardcore raps focusing on brutal rape and murder are hilarious if you take them for what they are: parody. The samples of Al Pacino in Scarface are great. I'm glad it pisses off the more sensitive listeners. This album was never meant for you anyway.

3 out of 5 stars HAS SOME GOOD SONGS........2003-12-16

This is some cool old school which deserves a place in your cd collection. The songs are pretty cool but the intros do get annoying sometimes.Give this cd a chance because it is much better than any hip hop today.

4 out of 5 stars Damn it feels good to hear ol' school.......2001-11-18

Damn it feels good to hear the Geto Boys. These are original old school rappers who know how to paint a picture. Dark and haunting in some regards, this is the stuff rap should be made of. This is one of the better old school albums I own and the CD is worth the price and then some. From pure anger to telling the story of life on the wrong side, the Geto Boys usually get it right.

3 out of 5 stars This is a fair sample of the Geto Boys' work.......2001-07-04

Most of the songs are from other Geto Boys albums, some are remakes, others are just copied and pasted in. Bushwick Bill is the comic relief in what tend to be dark musical works. Scarface comes from the perspective of a paranoid manic depressive drug dealer. Willie D comes off as a part time hustler. This album has many of the classic tracks of old school hip hop.

2 out of 5 stars What Happened?.......2000-07-10

It took me many months trying to find "somethin' to blaze to" and "rated g" (T.A.'s first two albums) after finally finding them I was completly satisfied. Each of those albums would have gotten 5 stars, but this one however is another story. I realize groups from '93 had to change their style (no more chronic style beats) to accomodate the new sounds of '97, but other than world war 3 the beats were unimaginative, boring and sounded like anyone could produce them. T.A. had amazing lyrics for gangsta rappers back then, but in '97 you had to come up with some thought provoking material which T.A. couldn't do. Bad lryics with bad beats equals bad album. Sorry for the knock on this one guys, but thanks a lot for your first two albums if your reading this.

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Recording of Little-Known Tchaikovsky!!.......2004-10-06

For a long time, I have waited to hear Tchaikovsky's Second and Third Piano Concertos. After hearing and playing horn in the orchestra for the First, I eagerly awaited the opportunity to hear the other two works. I have finally done that.

Jerome Lowenthal is an obscure name today in the classical music realm, and this is a terrible crime! He plays the works of Tchaikovsky and Bartok, so this may help explain the obscurity. No more!

Lowenthal plays a bit like Krystian Zimerman, one of my favorite pianists. He has a beautiful tone that can also be powerful and commanding. His virtuosity is incredible, and he really makes the most of these piano showpieces.

The Second Concerto is noble, grand and full of majesty. Comissiona gives expert readings with the London Symphony Orchestra. The rhythms are crisp and accurate, and the virtuosity of the London Symphony is incredible. They play marvelously in tune, and they exploit the full dynamic range. One can hear the orchestration and Tchaikovskian harmonic language very well. Lowenthal plays the Cadenza with amazing power and ease. It is a monstrous and difficult, and the debt to Franz Liszt is readily apparent.

The Third Concerto is very fascinating, also. It is a one-movement work, the product of a rejected symphonic movement that Tchaikovsky felt did not suit the symphonic genre. It is full of power and beautiful melodies. Lowenthal, Comissiona and the orchestra really give it their all. This work should be better represented in the classical music repertoire.

Overall, this CD is a fine achievement. The recorded sound is good, and the liner notes are excellent and informative. I have not heard the two-CD set with Mikhail Pletnev playing all three Tchaikovsky concertos, but I have read about it. It receives fairly high marks, and it may suffice if this recording is not available to the reader. My friend has the Pletnev set, and he says the piano is balanced a bit bright and forward in the Second Concerto. Anyways, this is a great CD.

5 out of 5 stars shouldn't be without!.......2001-05-02

This is an incredibly beautiful CD. Whether you are a serious Tchaikovsky affianado or just beginning to get into classical music, this CD is a must-get. Jerome Lowenthal's technical mastery and extraordinary passion are on luminous display here. I have spent hours enjoying this music and find that even though I have many CDs, I go back to this one time and again.

5 out of 5 stars just a great cd.......2001-04-14

Beautiful concertos and wonderful performances. I am a classical music lover not a reviewer but consider Jerome Lowenthal one of the greater (albeit lesser known) pianists of his generation. He has also recorded the 1st Piano concerto with this orchestra (on a different cd) and both are examples of Tchaikovsky's music performed with extraordinary grace and passion.

2 out of 5 stars Get their earlier vinyl releases... this album is blah........2006-07-31

It was such a downer when this CD came out after the last two EP releases on Dumb-Unit and Festplatten. Some bands start out raw and weak then progress, here I think The Uncut did just the opposite. Actually, their earlier material was rather raw and minimal (very similar to early New Order both in guitar work and vocal delivery). If you can find a way to buy or download their "Understanding The New Violence" vinyl EP or the "Devotion/Fluent And Pure/Over The Edge" EP, please do for they indeed rock! Certainly their earlier sound is evident in the track "Understanding the New Violence," so if you like how that song sounds, go for the earlier material by this band that had a lot of potential before muddying things up.

3 out of 5 stars Better than bad. .......2005-12-30

I was going to tell myself not to compare this band to Interpol. But I just can't help myself. The best song on this album is Understanding the New Violence. The reason it is the best song is because it sounds most like Interpol. The rest of this album sounds like a up and coming band hoping one day to open for the bigger and better Interpol. I do enjoy this album however. It is not as hipnotic as Interpol, but it is good. There are some high points. Alot of it is very bland however. Its really had to explain. I would recommend this for any fan of Interpol. Its worth a listen. I will be very interested if they can follow this up with something great. I can tell they have great things to come.

2 out of 5 stars Repetitive, good 'background music'.......2005-04-01

I bought this cd after hearing the second half of 'understanding the new volience' on TV (yes, Muchmusic does play indie bands on it's network every leap year)and purchased the album thinking it would be more driven by guitar riffs. The problem is that it tends to be a bit repetitive (especially the single)and it straddles that uneasy fence between 'pop dance music sound' and rock. Also, the vocalists style of muttering the lyrics as opposed to singing them also adds to the cd's misgivings. If you're into the types of bands that make up the bulk of Paperbag Records artists than you won't be disappointed, but for those of want a more harder and complex rock album look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 stars Post-punk, apparently.......2005-02-11

There are no other reviews of this album, which is a shame because that likely means nobody else is buying it, which is a shame because that likely means nobody else is listening to it. Comparisons: let's see... Amazon says that people who looked at this also looked at bands like !!!, Death From Above 1979, and Ambulance LTD (as well as others that I have no frame of reference for). Those people are likely to be disappointed. Another website lists Interpol, Joy Division, and And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. That's closer. I would also posit references to the new dance-rock craze that's going around now (ie, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, etc). But less explicity dance, more "Just guitars, please." Also, singer Ian Worang isn't quite singing, but neither is he mumbling or talking; he's just unconcerned about making his vocals the center of the songs. It works really well, giving it a bit of a subdued feeling. Anyways, I was hooked after hearing track 2, Understanding the New Violence. This is practically the only thing I've listened to for the last month, and I'm still hooked. I don't give glowing reviews of much, but I LOVE Uncut.
