OC's third attempt at world domination comes in the shape of Bon Appetit. After initially hitting the hip-hop scene on Organized Konfusion's classic jam "Fudge Pudge," OC went on to wreck plenty of mics. However, despite the occasional minor classic (headz may remember his baaad mid-'90s underground hit, "Time's Up") he never really blew up the way his contemporaries Jay-Z and Nas did, possibly because his game was never completely consistent. Using the tried and tested beat-making skills of longtime collaborator Buckwild, OC steps with a selection of tracks that swing from hardcore posse cuts to easy-going funk spots.

Alas, it wouldn't be right to say that every cut here is on point; too many tracks lack the energy and/or lyrical suss to push them beyond the point of mediocrity. When he does hit the spot he rocks it well, and there's certainly enough potential to suggest that one day he'll deliver the extra twists and bites his sound and rhymes need to make him a worldwide success. Part of what makes Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer, the Indigo Girls of the kids' music circuit, so successful (their last five albums have all received Grammy notice) is an aversion to biting off more than they can chew. So it goes with Bon Appetit, which follows the Fink/Marxer formula by deftly dipping into a range of genres that includes swing, samba, and show tunes and brightly making their points. "Water," we're told, is "like a washing machine/ It keeps the inside and the outside of your body clean." "Breakfast Power" rules, and germs have got to go. Bananas, potatoes, and big muscles also championed. In the end, thought, the track full of food jokes ("Why did the cookie go to the hospital? I can't believe only 1% of people who look at this cd end up buying it. The other 99% are missing out. This is fun for grownups and kids, funny, and has a good message about healthy food. We'll listen to it nonstop for a while, then put it aside, but it keeps coming back into the pile, and we're always delighted when it does.

Great kids CD.......2006-03-30

I won this CD in a contest and was very sarcastic about my response, but the first time we popped it into the CD player, my 2 1/2 year old fell in love with it. It is mandatory car music now, both my girls love it. They are learning about nutrition in a fun way. I'm probably going to buy a 2nd one because they are wearing the first one out. =0)

Not too impressed.......2004-12-22

I bought this cd for Christmas, since our gift theme to our daughter is food. So we got a kitchen set, pretend food, books about food, CDS about food, i.e.
I was really excited to listen to the album, so we gave it to her early I was not impressed
nor was my 21 month daughter who generally dances and sings to anything. The overall album was slow and the songs were not very catchy. We much more prefer things like Ralph COvert, Dan Zanes, Toddler Sings Laurie and who-ever sings the Bad Mood Mom albuym. It is not awfulm but it is not great. And then will be copied to our MP3 player and then sold on ebay. If you want a much more catchy album about food check out Tom Paxton Fun Food Songs :-D

Kid stuff.......2003-08-16

First heard on NPR and had to have it. If you want to expose your child (6 year old in our case) to a variety of musical styles in a fun way, this is IT. The first time she listened, she wouldn't stop. We had to delay bedtime (a good cause in our opinion).
GREAT FUN!!!!!!

I Hate it when people diss somebody because the 3rd album isnt (supposedly as good as the 1st and 2nd c'mon this is hot compared to all that other crap besides Jay-Z and Nas and Ghostface that came out in 2001 this is a good CD Beats Rhymes or its maybe because I'm from the hood I like it 2 many people dont even no to much about this album but I see most people dont like it....Everybody this album is OK if you are a true OC fan like me....far from garbage

O.C. returns with his third album and it's pretty good. It has its highpoints and its lows as well. Has about 2 or 3 tracks that are skippable but the rest are pretty good, no great song or classics but still pretty good. Has a few appearances by lesser known rappers as well as one by Jay-Z (bonus track after number 13). Production is handled by Buckwild on 10 tracks (sub par on most of them as well), Lord Finesse on 1 (maybe the best track on here), and Ahmed on 2. A good album to have for them DITC fans but he has made better.

Third album by D.I.T.C. legend O.C. tries to go far the deep bomb.This album was released 4 years after his last album."Soul to keep" is a nice rap tune with precise lyrics."Dr Know" is not to terrible it is not great but it is not that bad either."Bounce Mission" is actually another good standout track."Bon Appetit" is a street track."Get it Dirty" is a little bit to much party track.on "Upmost" he displays a tight Flow and it shows."Respect the Drop" is a good one also not really to bad."Weed and Drinks" is not the best he does show a hot Flow however."Paradise" has a nice beat."Psalm 23" ends it off okay he raps to among others Big L. This is not the greatest Hip Hop album of all time that is for sure.Inconsistent but good when it has to be good.

"Word life.. where's the jewelz?".......2004-07-07

As a avid fan of O.C. i'd have to agree with most of the reviews
that you'll hear or read about this particular album...its not up to his or OUR standards. There's a few nice tight joints here
that prove that O.C. still has abit of bite in him. Such as
"soul to keep", "utmost", "respect the drop", "weed+drink", and
"doin' dirt" but apart from that the rest are mediocre at best, with 1 or 2 actually WACK. Now that's something i honestly never
thought i'd say with an O.C. joint. His lyrics are still sharp as
a ginsu, its just most of the beats are soft and repetitive. If he gets back to basics+rediscovers his hunger+love for the art, ive NO DOUBT we'll get a better album next time. If you can download those particular tracks ive mentioned, you've done well
and aren't missing out.
