The Mission Impossible theme is performed well.
The Fireball theme is actually much improved on this version. I prefer the orchestra and the vocals over the original.

As a musician myself, I know too well that one of the most important ingredients in ANY performance (live or recorded) is passion. The recordings here generally lack the same passion and sheer drama of the originals. Much of the instrumentation has been reduced to a cheezy, thin, plastic synthesized replica. The performances are simply a watered-down lackluster version of the classic originals. If it were not for the sheer volume of tracks compiled here, I would have rated the comp only "one star".

I have watched almost all the shows that are on these 4 cd's. Many were made before I started watching TV. Most I've seen once or twice before.

Definitely not as good as the originals. You'll probably notice the slight differences since it's stuff you saw and listened to every week or everyday in reruns growing up, but it's still an amazing collection.

As an early musician I far too often hear groups simply play 'notation'. Embellishment and interpretation were vital in earlier times, and this CD is marvelous for those, as well as for the excellence of technique on authentic (modern built) instruments. This recording ranks very high in its technical and historical merits!

This is the most evocative recording of renaissance dances I've ever had the pleasure of hearing. Its bittersweet, dolorous violin harmonies are positively haunting. The tunes stayed in my head for hours --days -- after listening.

The jacket notes to Apollo's Banquet tell of Thomas Hardy decribing a dance fiddler as evoking "the wild and agonizing sweetness of a living voice in one too highly wrought." Words can hardly describe the sound, so emotional and sweet. The acappella violin in the first piece is pure ecstasy.

            'Visions from the Book' performed by the 'Ensemble for Medieval Music', otherwise known as SEQUENTIA gives us a genre of old music which is neither purely liturgical (part of a mass) or minstral or part of a masque (dance).

            It is singing, with some instrumental accompanyment, of stories from the Bible, written mostly by anonymous authors, probably monestary choir directors.

            One name stands out among the unknown composers. This is Peter Abaelard (1079 - 1142), famous as one of the two principals in the story of Heloise and Abelard. He gives us a lament of David over the death of Saul and Jonathan from the old testament.

            In fact, four of the seven tracks are recitations from the old testament.

            Up until now, I have not paid enough attention to SEQUENTIA's body of work and they have laid fallow in my collection. This recording reminds me of how good they are, in comparison to the other famous names of old music performing such as the Hilliard Ensemble and the Anonymous 4.

            Highly recommended.
