Love it!!!.......2007-06-13
I love this CD. My favorite songs are Don't Give Up, Eloquent, and Thank You. I think you should get this CD.
SR is hitting the mark.......2007-05-14
Starting off with a punch, the CD hits the mark. Not Alright is the kind of razor sharp truth that sets SR apart from the top-40 CCM crowd. The title track Face Of Love is the high water mark for this band, surpassing Alone on their last album. It's no wonder it was the most played CD of last year. PLEASE make a live/remix album?????
Nothing like Rockin Christian Tunes! .......2007-01-04
Sanctus Real - Great Group - Great Music - Great Message - GREAT CD
They Are Alright.......2006-11-27
I have enjoyed the singles 'The Face of Love' and 'I'm Not Alright' so I decided to get this album. I have not heard any of the previous music by Sanctus Real.
This is a quality rock album with very good lyrics. Some of the issues that the songs deal with are as follows: The loss of a loved one through death, encouraging married couples to 'Don't Give Up', and praising the Lord 'Thank You'.
The song 'We're Trying' has a catchy sound. It is talking about how we as Christians/humans sin but are trying to do right. It says: 'We're liars and thieves, we're destroying the peace, but we're trying.'
'Benjamin' is a song about a person who has lost his father about the same time that his child was born. It is very moving.
I am quite impressed with this album and would recommend it.
Wow.......2006-11-09
I purchased this CD around three months ago, and it's already becoming one of my altime favorites. It expertly blends pop ballads, soft rock, and Sanctus Real's own blend of passionate rock and guitar. Some of the best songs are "I'm Not Alright", "Fly," "The Face of Love" "Where We Belong" and "We're Trying." All and all, a great rock album with great lyrics.

This Ron Howard film parlays the troubled story of Nobel laureate John Forbes Nash Jr., a gifted Princeton mathematics professor tormented for decades by paranoid schizophrenia, into something considerably richer than typical Hollywood triumph-against-all-odds fare. Howard has teamed here again with frequent collaborator James Horner, and it's the composer who deftly shades the film's difficult emotional landscape and helps impart a compelling humanity. Horner's first task is not inconsiderable: musically portraying the arcane realm of mathematical theorems that are the story's backdrop. In doing so, the composer leans heavily on modern minimalist technique, bright flourishes that recur briefly throughout an orchestral score that increasingly reflects Nash's bleak inner landscape in its quietly somber and brooding tones. And while Horner has frequently been accused of excessively repeating himself in his scores, the neo-minimalist gambit employed on this reflectively pastoral, postmodernist soundscape neatly nips such criticism in the bud. Nash's triumph is ultimately an intensely personal one, well reflected in Welsh soprano Charlotte Church's lilting performance of the Horner/Will Jennings ballad "All Love Can Be." This enhanced CD also features notes by the director and composer, as well as exclusive photos and the film's trailer. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
Haven't I heard this before?.......2007-06-20
As other reviewers will tell you yes this is another Horner machine made soundtrack. But it still sounds good! If you are a Horner fan by all means buy it otherwise "at your own risk"!
And another thing that gets me is no one even bothered to mention "Alicia Discovers Nash's Dark World" I happened to like this one this is the song that plays when he is in the hospital.
a beautiful score.......2007-02-09
James Horner's soundtrack for A BEAUTIFUL MIND is as psychologically intense as the film it so effectively embellishes.
Charlotte Church provides an appropriately eerie and largely non-verbal soprano to this remarkable motion picture score, yet one that would seem only quirky were it not so beautifully embedded in a musical stream that draws one inexorably and almost vicariously into the emotional turbulence of the Princeton mathematician John Nash.
There is an angelic nature to the shape and texture of this music, one that is able to turn demonic as the story line requires. Both by brilliance and by dementia, Nash seems the object of external forces, rising with supreme heroism (at least in the film's version of events) to conquer. The music is there at each score, coaxing the viewer into empathic solidarity with this deeply troubled man and his long-suffering and preternaturally beautiful wife.
This is mood music of the deeply engaging variety. Its lush tonal landscape is achieved under the baton of the composer himself. The score's vast range of volume and expression would certainly have made it a joy to watch in performance.
Alas, we don't have that.
But we have this.
An ethereal, compelling, even gripping tone poem. Buy it.
A Beautiful Mind.......2006-08-09
Absolutely gorgeous - my husband keeps it in his car and listens to it whenever he's driving.
Haunting, lovely, majestic.......2006-04-04
The sound track for "A Beautiful Mind" stayed with me long after the movie. The CD has all the themes that made the movie so emotionally powerfull. James Horner, composer and conductor, perfectly matches the excitement of genius and the terror of mental disability. Charlotte Church's clear and gentle voice compliments the music and used instrumentally creates a haunting refrain. I loved the movie and this music is wonderful.
Dark.......2006-02-20
This is one of the darkest and most emotional soundtrack, and yet it is filled with more inspiring songs.
Best soundtrack ive ever heard.

Customer Reviews:
Very good show which I hadn't heard of..........2007-05-13
I was very into theatre in high school and college and thought I was up on most musicals, but had never heard of this show until recently. It's comprised of three short stories which were adapted into the musical format. The first two stories are tied together very well, although the last seems tacked on. But the songs are catchy and it's fairly easy to figure out what's happening simply by listening to the songs. There are two songs which are tied for my favoritism: "It's a Fish" from Adam and Eve and "You Are Not Real" from Passionella. Check it out.
THE APPLE TREE (1966 ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST).......2007-04-10
IT WAS EXACTLY WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR. I WENT TO THE REVIVAL OF THE APPLE TREE ON BROADWAY IN NEW YORK CITY AND LOVED THE SCORE BUT THERE WASN'T A SOUNDTRACK AVAILABLE SO I PURCHASED THE ORIGINAL VERSION AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
I still remember these songs after 40 years.......2006-11-05
I saw this show on the stage when it first ran, and have never forgotten it. The key to a good Broadway show is this question: Are you humming the songs when you leave the theatre? In the case of The Apple Tree, the answer is a resounding "Yes." I have been waiting 40 years for this show to be revived, and I have tickets for the revival opening in December at the Roundabout. I hope not to be disappointed, for the trio of Barbara Harris, a very young Alan Alda, and the late Larry Blyden were terrific. The three-part concept can be jarring because just when you're getting into the story, it ends -- but just enjoy the kind of songs they just don't write anymore.
Really 2.5.......2006-07-25
SO this is another show thats actually three one acts. The first "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is the best by far. It has really cute songs and nice plot. Thats the only reason I rounded this up from 2.5 to 3 stars. The rest of the show is nothing great. "Lady and Tiger" is short and boring. And "Passionella" is exactly what it sounds like, a knock off of Cinderella. But hey, its a good show for collectors and "The Diary of Adam and Eve" is nice. Favorite Song: "Its A Fish"
Boring material that you forget very easily.......2006-06-29
According to some reviews, this musical was supposed to be very good and I bought it. Unfortunately, I was quite dissapointed. It's composed of three different tales, the first one referring to the Adam & Eve biblical story. The lyrics here are very silly and tedious. The second tale, "The Lady or the Tiger?" contains songs that are simply awful, probably the worst ever written for a Broadway show. The third story, "Passionella", contains music that does nothing to make things better. The album contains a good informative booklet in English, German, French & Italian (as Sony uses to do)which says that Time magazine defined this show as "three moldy figs". I entirely agree. I would recommend this musical to those suffering from insomnia: it will put them to sleep right away.

Dolly: Burlap & Satin / Real Love.......2007-05-15
love these albums - must have for any collector of Dolly's music.
DOLLY AT HER BEST.......2007-05-13
This is Dolly at the top of her game. This cd shows a contemporary side, with a hint the of 50's and 60's era thrown in, to Dolly while still letting her remain country.
A rare jewel.......2007-05-08
I've been looking for these two on CD forever! About 12 years ago my cassettes broke... totally used to schreds... and not until now did I get the CD's :) I recommend these to anyone who loves Dolly's incredible voice, song lyrics, her tender touch to both romance and heart ache and just everything Dolly :)
My faves from these two? I love these albums, but if I had to pick I'd listen to Gamble either way, Appalachian memories, Once in a very blue moon... and... of course... the VERY funny I hope you're never happy :D
"More Rare Dolly".......2007-04-05
"Burlap and Satin" makes it debut in CD format and this makes "Real Love's" second appearance on CD. The original CD version of "Real Love" goes for a lot of bucks as it has been out of print for years so it's nice to see it get a renewed life again. Two great Dolly albums with perfect sound and wonderful CD artwork. Get these copies while they last as they will become collector's items very soon.
My Favorite In This Collection.......2007-03-25
Finally after all these years two wonderful Pop/Country albums that first were released on LP, are on one CD together. "Burlap & Satin" features one of Dolly Parton's most beautiful album covers that she's ever made & the artcover to "Real Love" is equally beautiful.
The album's first ten songs are from "Burlap & Satin" which were released in 1983. They contain some of Dolly's best of the 1980s like the moving & heartbreaking "Appalachian Memories" which she wrote for her father who tryed making it in the big city, but couldn't, it also is one of Dolly's fan's favorites too. A enjoyable "I Really Don't Want To Know" which is a duet with Willie Nelson and "Potential New Boyfriend" which was a top twenty country single (even though it's more Pop) and was accompanied by Dolly's first ever music video. Another songs on the first half are kind of forgettable but still good like "A Cowboy's Ways" and "A Gamble Either Way" which were outtake songs from Dolly's movie "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas".
The second half of the album is from "Real Love" which was released in 1985 and was Dolly's last album for RCA. The second part also contains more pop then "Burlap & Satin" contained. The highlighted songs from the second half is "Think About Love", "Tie Our Love (In A Double Knot)", "Don't Call It Love" and "Real Love" (a duet with Kenny Rogers that reached #91 on the U.S. pop charts). My only problem with this two albums on one disc is the sound, it's very low and theres no bass in any of the songs, however the price is great!.
Both of these albums include their original artwork from the LPs inside the CD booklet, it also haves linernotes, but no lyrics.

The best.......2007-02-21
This woman has soul and I love every tune. I missed place this one while on vacation last year and it is not easy to find. I found it here.
Continues the same silky delivery with a BONUS.......2006-06-05
Lisa Stansfield's second release is more a continuation of the first, filled with the same driving beats, sultry vocals, and songwriting/production team.
However, the singer explores a "torchier" side with the inclusion of one of the best songs of the 90's: the passionate "All Woman." The song tells of a marriage going south, with the husband unfairly criticizing his wife for her change in behavior, as well as appearance. However, the wife gets the last word, proclaiming her contributions and faithfulness to the union; thus, the couple reconciles. Stansfield sings as though she herself has experienced the ups and downs of a failing relationship.
Why the singer didn't receive a Grammy for this song is a mystery!
The rest of the album is equally impressive from one of the most underrated singers in the world.
still a pleasure.......2006-05-21
I discovered this great album in 1991, its year of release, and I immediatley fell in love with it. Lisa has a very soulful voice and when she sings you can only be melting and singing with her . The songs are all fabulous especially the deep-housy "set your loving free" and the first single "change". This album is a great melting-pot of every kind of music Lisa loves (funk, house but also wondeful ballads like all woman). Finally, I have to say that fifteen years later, i'm still playing it without getting bored of it. Lisa is a true diva and a gay icon in every way. Those who don't already know her, go and buy this album quickly to have an excellent preview of what Lisa is able to do.
LISA STANSFIELD.......2005-09-20
AFTER REVIEWING LISA STANSFIELD'S "REAL LOVE" CD, I FIND THAT HER BALLADS REALLY MAKE HER THE SONGTRESS THAT SHE IS.

This collection includes Ernesto Lecuona's complete 1954 recordings plus a series of 78s made in 1927-28. Ten of the recordings were previously unreleased. This is a lot of lightweight Cuban piano music to deal with at once, but it's definitely worth doing. Lecuona's music, which is having a major revival, may not be important. But it's consistently charming and entertaining. The 78s, which sound surprisingly good, reveal even more of a virtuoso than do the later recordings, but throughout we hear playing that expresses the spirit of the music extremely well. And yes, the famous Malagueña is here, sounding very sexy. --Leslie Gerber

Lecuona Plays Lecuona.......2007-05-12
Oh Boy! What can I tell you about this magnificent collection of musical jewels from our Maestro Lecuona. I bought the original Long Playing Record back in the 50's in my country.
I purchased it again shortly after my arrival to the US, and I was lucky enough to buy it on DVD from Amazon, once I found out they had it.

Lecuona the Cuban pianist is Great!.......2005-08-17
In my opinion this is one of the best CD's from Lacuona, Most of his piano compositions are recorded here (original ones), What, Ms. Leslie Gerber forgot to mention is that Mr.Lecuona was a band leader,"Lecuona and the Cuban Boys", remembers him? Or maybe she does not have sufficient information about him. The music from Lecuona still is very well alive today. I came across his recordings on my own, no one ever told me about this great pianist. I happened to hear the Malague?a by another great Cuban composer and band leader Perez Prado (The Real Mambo King) in one of his albums and Lecuona was the author. That got me interested in him. I'm pretty sure that Ms.Leslie Gerber does not mean any harm trying to put this composer down. It's just that maybe all she knows is Gerber baby food stuff!
The Cuban Chopin.......2004-06-18
What a great album and great value. There is music here that will make you smile, break your heart, inspire you, and Lecuona's skill is breathtaking. If you enjoy classical piano music (with a Cuban/Spanish influence), you'll love this. No, it doesn't display the virtuosity, complexity or seriousness of Lizst, Chopin or Beethoven, but it's fun, beautiful, dramatic yet accessible. You'll love it.
Lecuona, the musical genious . . . . ........2002-10-16
I feel compelled to identify myself first. I am Cuban born who arrived in the US in 1960 at the age of 16 years old. I am a US citizen since 1965 and a US Army Veteran of Viet Nam. I will die defending the right Ms. Leslie Garber has of expresing her opinions. But what I will not condone is her ignorance. To say that Lecuona writes "lightweight Cuban piano music" and that "Lecuona's music may not be important" is to show ignorance. A musician that composes GREAT music in several genres of the music world, a musician that in all genres has highly succesful pieces, and, a musician that after many years, (70-80 years) is still heard and admired can not be called other than MUSICAL GENIOUS and a CLASSICAL MUSICIAN. His music is so beautiful that it will live forever. From his Afro-Cuban compositions, to his romantic popular boleros, to his valses, to his Zarzuelas, Lecuona demonstrates once and again, time after time his immense musical talent. His Afro-Cuban "Cafetal", his romantic boleros "Noche Azul" and "Amapola", His vibrant and colorful "Comparsa" and "Andalucia", his classical Valses, just to mention a few things, makes Lecuona to stand together with the great musicians of the world. The fact that Hollywood made a film around "Estas en mi corazon" and that great singers, like Placido Domingo, want to sing Lecuona's music speaks immensely well of Lecuona/s greatness. The fact the popular instrumental orchestras like Faith, Conniff, Mantovani, Cugat have arranged and interpreted a lot of Lecuona's music also says a lot about Lecuona's versatility in his work. Lecuona is probably important to many millions of people and his music is certainly not lightweight. And if the only thing Ms. Garber can say about "Malaguena" is that "it sounds very sexy" is to demonstrate that she does not know a thing about music. It definitely does not give her the priviledge of commenting about Lecuona's music.
LECUONA IS NO LIGHTWEIGHT.......2002-02-27
Lecuona is one of the most important composers of Latin-America. He is by no means the "unimportant" and "lightweight" Leslie Gerber (whomever that may be) claims, having been hailed for performances of his earlier (and "less mature") works by the likes of Maurice Ravel.
In my opinion the highlight of the set is the devilish "La 32". It's also interesting to compare his interpretations of the same works at different times in his career, like the two recordings of "Por que te vas?" and "Amorosa", especially keeping in mind that Lecuona seldom notated and improvised quite frequently, leaving the transcription work to his students.

Irresistible.......2005-07-29
From beginning to end this CD is pure delight. A great recording has great music, a great performance, and great sound; this one scores on all three counts.
Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals dominated Broadway in the 1940s and 1950s, and American musical theater has produced no more consistently eloquent and durable voice than Richard Rodgers. From his fertile genius flowed a surprising number of memorable songs, many of which have passed into and become an accepted and beloved part of modern American culture.
This well-filled CD (77:36) features symphonic arrangements (all but two by Robert Russell Bennett) of the music from Oklahoma (1943), Carousel (1945), State Fair (1945), South Pacific (1949), The King and I (1951), Flower Drum Song (1958), and The Sound of Music (1959). All the great tunes are here in suites from each musical that average 10-12 minutes in length. The arrangements are expert: rich, varied, and colorful. The performances are polished, idiomatic, and irresistible; Kunzel and this orchestra are thorough masters of this kind of material. And Telarc's sound (recorded 1991) is state-of-the-art (engineer Michael Bishop deserves to take a bow).
In short, there's nothing here to cloud your listening pleasure (the only quibble I can imagine is that some of your favorites may not last long enough), so it's hard for me to envision anyone with ears and a taste for music who wouldn't enjoy this CD. Warmly recommended. Finally, if you like this one as much as I do, you might want to know that the same team has produced a companion volume, the Lerner & Lowe Songbook for Orchestra.
"Some Enchanted Evening" with Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops.......2003-12-26
Erich Kunzel's Rodgers and Hammerstein anthology with the Cincinatti Pops Orchestra is one of the best and most ravishing instrumental Rodgers and Hammerstein albums of all time. With sumptuous arrangements and warm, natural Telarc recording, this glorious 77-minute CD presents sweeping, melodic arrangements of over 60 Rodgers and Hammerstein selections, spanning eight scores, and Kunzel allows the Pops to play with a characterful and polished understanding of the Rodgers and Hammerstein idiom. The disc is enough to cheer you up on a dull day and make you smile, and it might even want to make you feel like a convert to Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
This CD has all the scores arranged chronologically. The OKLAHOMA! suite that opens this disc promises a feast for the senses, Kunzel ably evokes the territory's "bright, golden haze" in the way he conducts the various excerpts, until you feel the atmosphere of the country charm of the show, and the love-affair between Curly and Laurey. Then, in CAROUSEL, he ably evokes the pathos of this tragic R&H masterwork, especially in the truncated Waltz, but he leads a wonderfully melodic "June is Bustin' Out All Over" and a devotional "You'll Never Walk Alone." Although this suite does not include Billy's pivotal Soliloquy, it includes "If I Loved You" as an expression of his love for Julie, and within minutes you could be soaked in the ups and downs of the show's mood.
After a brief STATE FAIR suite, with sweeping renditions of "It Might As Well Be Spring" and "It's a Grand Night for Singing", we are brought into the disc's showstopping highlights. These highlights are the excerpts from SOUTH PACIFIC, THE KING AND I, and THE SOUND OF MUSIC. But yet Kunzel conducts the rest of the disc until the various suites amount to a series of showstoppers. These three suites present wonderfully-arranged versions of their many familiar classic songs, with well-played solos. The SOUTH PACIFIC suite presents the songs in chronological order, yet preserves the atmosphere of the show at the same time. Kunzel ably brings out the romance in "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Younger than Springtime," and contrasts it with the exotic and dreamlike "Bali Hai'i" and the comic "There is Nothing like a Dame" and "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Outa My Hair". Although the suite ends quietly with a reprise of "Dites-Moi" rather than the reprise of "Some Enchanted Evening," within minutes we are swept into the KING AND I suite. Kunzel ably brings out the Oriental pathos in this score, and he captures the warmth of Anna's rapport with the King's Siamese children in "Getting to Know You", and with the King himself in "Shall We Dance." There is also romance in the love ballads "I Have Dreamed" and "We Kiss in a Shadow." Similarly, in the selection from THE SOUND OF MUSIC, Kunzel conducts this until the orchestra soaks itself in the atmosphere of this Austrian R&H score. This SOUND OF MUSIC suite has more of a feel of the score compared to the bonus track on Sony's reissued version of the Broadway recording. You can almost feel as if you are following the progress of the Trapp family and how it lifts its spirits with the joy of music. Kunzel gives us a soaring version of the title song, and spirited versions of "Do-Re-Mi" and "My Favourite Things." He balances it with the open-air quality of "Edelweiss" and "The Lonely Goatherd." Although this suite could have included "Something Good," the love ballad written for the film, the three recollections of the songs that were cut from the movie only last for a while. And, the towering version of "Climb Every Mountain" crowns this portion of the disc, and this sumptuously-produced recording. But, I should also mention the infectuous FLOWER DRUM SONG medley, where Kunzel turns this underrated score into a work of art, until it convinces you to buy the cast recording. And, don't forget about the brief CINDERELLA WALTZ, too, when Kunzel conducts it magically, until you feel like you are in the company of Cinderella and the Prince. He is able to show how this R&H score marked a comeback for R&H after the failiures of Me and Juliet, and Pipe Dream.
Overall, this glorious Rodgers and Hammerstein recording is guarunteed to make you want to pucker your lips out for a whistle or sing along (to paraphrase another revew for Kunzel's Disney Spectacular disc) - even if this recording is music only, and as long as you know the words to the songs (and you might know a large handful of them already.) There is always a certain magic in this fine CD that makes you feel like you're sitting in the theatre watching these musicals, until it makes you feel like it is truly, to borrow two R&H song titles, "Some Enchanted Evening" and "Something Wonderful" to be in Kunzel's company for this R&H offering. It would certainly be one recording that could make you feel willing to buy the complete cast recordings of the shows. And I guaruntee that it will make you feel willing to pull out your existing copies of the cast recordings to listen to them again. I also guaruntee that it will be a cornerstone in any Rodgers and Hammerstein collection, just as it is in mine. Recommended heartily to any Rodgers and Hammerstein enthusiast and to fans of Erich Kunzel's work. And, you can play it while reading the Richard Rodgers biography, Musical Stages, until Rodgers himself would count this as his favourite disc in the afterlife.
By the way, most of the arrangements for the suites on this CD were done by the veteran R&H orchestrator Robert Russell Bennett, and it surely adds to the appeal of this recording. This itself is enough to amount to the icing on the cake, since Kunzel conducts them well on here, and since this recording still allows the suites to have the original theatrical atmosphere. And, although this recording is like the Mauceri collection of the Rodgers & Hammerstein overtures in compiling orchestral suites of Rodgers & Hammerstein, I think that I like the Kunzel recording even more because Kunzel has more magic in his conducting of these suites.
Excellent!.......2003-04-08
This is one of the best Erich Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops collections we own! A must for Rodgers and Hammerstein fans, too.
Great Arrangments.......2001-09-02
This is a first rate album with great arrangments and orchestrations. If you're a Rodgers and Hammerstein fan, you can't afford to miss this specatacular album

Recorded in the wake of the late Khan's triumphant performance at the 1985 WOMAD festival, this 10-track collection features the lighter, folkier side of the Pakistani classical music singer's repertoire. Accompanied by his nine-member "party" on acoustic guitar, mandolin, and a full complement of tabla and harmonium, Khan unleashes typically stunning vocal phrases marked by blinding speed, cutting tone, and unearthly ornamentation. The infectious "Yaad-E-Nabi Gulshan Mehka," with lyrics in praise of Muhammed, finds the qawwali singer at his most effervescent, while the ghazal (love song) "Mast Nazroon Se Allah Bachhae" features an insistent hand-clapped rhythm and the full Party chorus singing together in unison. --James Rotondi

King of the Qawali Sufi Music!.......2007-03-23
I couldn't say more. This is his best album ever.
GREAT MUSIC.......2005-10-07
THE SONGS THAT ARE SHORTER IN LENGTH ARE WHAT I ENJOY BETTER.THE SELECTIONS ON THIS CD ARE SOME OF HIS GREATEST HITS THAT ANYONE WHO IS A LOVER OF NUSRAT FATEH ALI KHAN WILL ENJOY TREMENDOUSLY.
Exhilirating.......2003-07-14
Nusrat Fateh Ali has a commanding voice and booming sonic presence. the Music of Qawalli is often an acquired listening experience. While i cannot speak for the listeners who listen to this musical form without knowing the linguistic intricacy and beauty mentioned in Qawalli verses, i can speak for the ones that do know the language its mostly sung in.
Musically the soundscape is beautiful and full of range and pleasing to the ear, knowing the lyrics behind it however gives the listener a totally new , almost religious sense of experience to this music, which most people feel is a very trance like state often that Whirling dervishes go into.
However anyone can truly enjoy the bliss featured within Qawalli rhythms and melodies which often seem natural, resonating with the listener's mindsets. The Japanese have claimed to have said that God resides in the vocal chords of Nusrat. The range expressed herein might bring that statement to elevation. It is not for everyone though. Qawalli music often takes patience to grow into a listening experience
Once the rapture of the sounds have you, its hard to let go.
over-produced.......2001-11-19
Listen to Haq Ali Ali on this, and listen to it on something like Nusrat Live at Prince Albert Hall, you understand that there's no need to have the chorus echoing and all the voices in perfect sync, in fact that takes away from the passion of it, when it's almost discordant, that it demands something from God. This cd doesn't seem live, it seems cut and pasted and touched too much, and the string instrument, whether its a guitar or mandolin or whatever, it isn't common in nusrat and sometimes its okay, but mostly I dont care for it. It lacks the fullness, the brutality of real ecstatic quvalli, its like elevator quvalli or kennyg quvalli.
I was very disappointed with this album when I first got it, but now I like it some.
Great Selection!.......2001-03-08
This is a diverse collection of Nusrat. It has the rise and fall of his Punjabi Lyrical Ballads as well as some of his best Urdu singles. Being a Qawwali Singer, I feel his qawwali numbers are far better than the ones he has sung in pure ghazal format. That's the main reason for my dislike of his Urdu Numbers.
1. Allah Hoo Allah Hoo - Fine. 5. Mast Nazroon Se Allah Bachhae - Beautiful, Romantic and Very Careful in Analyzing the Beauty and its effects :-) 6. Woh Hata Rahe Hain Pardah - Simply Lovely. I think this number holds a lot of power among his well sung Urdu Qawwalis and Ghazals. This is a very poetic piece and has his inner voice in it. 7. Yeh Jo Halka Saroor Hae - Another All Time Great Number. 8. Biba Sada Dil Morr De - Nice One. 9. Yaadan Vichhre Sajan Dian Aiyan - Recollecting the old lover. Well, obviously sad. 10. Sanson Ki Mala Pey - Very Poetic. Very Beautiful. Here he is expressing a lover's sentiments in words and narrating them point by point.
Great Selection.
