Product Description
From the introduction: This CD is the second edition of Archeophones very first release, which established our mission of providing detailed, scholarly, and unabashed reissues of the early recording industrys product in attractive and generous packages. With this newly remastered, freshly annotated edition, we are bringing our first and favorite release to the standards that you expect from the leader in acoustic-era reissues. To some music fans, the title of Real Ragtime sounded like a battle cry of authenticity, but the aim of the collection was and remains a simple one, grounded in the history of record buying a century ago: to show that the ragtime consumers were likely to find on records for more than 20 years was not the kind of ragtime we think of today. They were more likely to find banjos and brass bands playing ragtime than pianos, and their collections of disc recordings almost certainly had numerous examples of watered-down ragtimethe Tin Pan Alley knock-offs that really had no ragtime but called themselves rags just for the added marketability such a designation would bring. Ragtime was as much about a musical mood, a general feeling in the air, as it was about what scholars would identify as real ragtime. It was a trope that defined the early recording industry and pervaded the entire culture for a generation. These are the recordings people listened to, whether they were really ragtime or notand they were thought of, no doubt, as the genuine item.

Archeophone's "Real Ragtime" Second Edition.......2005-10-09
This is the second edition of this CD to be released by Archeophone Records. It contains one additional tune and one substitution. The selections have been remastered, and the sound which was good the first time, has even been improved this time. Some of these recordings are over one hundred years old, and have no right to sound this good! This disc offers a good cross section of the music that was popular between 1898 and 1918. The booklet is done with a real attention to detail, and a lot of information is included along with photographs and first class graphics. This disc, along with the others from this company (I have them all), can stand tall alongside any other reissues by anyone!
Titles I especially enjoy are "Booster Fox Trot" by the Victor Military Band; "Dill Pickles Rag" by Chris Chapman; "The International Rag" by Collins and Harlan; "Cohen's Rag Babe" by Arthur Collins; and "Ragtime Temple Bells" by Billy Murray.
By the way, the substitution mentioned is a different version of "Dill Pickles Rag". The original version by Chris Chapman (1908), is included here, while the version by William H. Reitz (1922), was featured in the first edition of this CD. The additional tune is "Sugar Plum" by Samuel Siegel and Roy Butin.
For those who enjoy original recordings of the first quarter of the twentieth century, this disc is a good place to begin. Archeophone Records is the premier company reissuing this material, and I can recommend their CDs highly. They have released discs featuring Bert Williams, Billy Murray, Art Hickman, and The Benson Orchestra of Chicago; along with over twenty more titles, all of the highest quality sound that modern remastering will allow.

Customer Reviews:
Very Good album from Bizzy.......2007-05-07
Bizzy comes up with a dope album. I admit I wasn't really feeling his other solo albums, but on this one he comes hard with good lyrics, flow, and content. The production also helps make this album even better. I feel that the one thing Bizzy needs right now are some good producers, and Playalitical does the job here.
Highlights of Midwest Cowboy include "Around The World", "Thugs Need Love Too" "Thugs Need Love Too", "What Do We Say?" and "All We Can Be". But honestly, I love every song on the album.
Bizzy harmonizes well like always, but I'm just disappointed that he mostly sticks to his slower flow; there's not as much of his rapid-fire flow as before. He does it at times, but not as much as some Bone fans like me would like. I'm not complaining though.
Anyways, this is a great album, in my opinion about as good as Heaven's Movie and The Gift. I just hope that Bizzy can stay consistent, and keep working with good producers. Everyone should buy this album.
A Step Back In The Right Direction.......2006-10-01
This is hard for me to say, but this is probably Bizzy's second best cd. The beats (for the most part) bang, and Bizzy sticks to doing what he does best: spit between well-sung choruses. Okay, the Christian overtones have (thankfully) taken a backseat on this cd. Playalitical does a good job providing Bizzy unique and dope backdrops to do his thing. The first song is really dope, but too short. Also, the inclusion of skits (including one that seems to be drug-induced rambling about Jesus) doesn't help the cause of an album that's only 15 tracks deep (including both skits and the short intro/song). "Around the World" has to be the albums high-point as it showcases the best of Bizzy. Playalitical likes to mess with the way Bizzy records his vocals, and I think it's very original and adds a lot to the "evolution" of Bizzy, as sometimes it seems as though he's rapping like it's 1998. The influence of the album's producer is evident all over this album (and that's a GREAT thing). I don't think the direction-less Bizzy found on previous albums could do the great harmonizations as seen on "Thugs Need Love Too" or the amazing chorus from "What Do We Say?". The artistic growth leads to some more good ol' confusing and confounding hypocrisy with tracks like "Lovey Dovey" finding their sonic and moral opposites in songs like "$20 Bill" and "Doin It Wrong". The pleading to Bizzy's ex-wife to see his child on "I Must Fess Up" are deeply personal and a great addition to Bizzy's repetoire of songs. This is a good cd, but it's a tad short and "If the Sky Falls" doesn't tell us anything we haven't heard from Bizzy before. "Blown Away" doesn't match the caliber of weed-smoking anthems Bizzy's capable of. Bust mostly it's the off-kilter electric piano melody throwing me off, as well as the pointless guest appearance. All in all, this is a good album, and I hope Bizzy continues evolving and even working with Playalitical (it seems Bizzy pumps out alright albums every few months, each on a different lable with different producers and artists...prolific, but disappointing).
ROCKS.......2006-08-21
I listened to c couple of tracks in this album and i had to go buy another pair of speakers in COMPUSA because 2 of them blew up at the sametime LMAO!!!. Bone thugs just rocks the music industry... people have their eyes closed. I swear you guys gotta buy this album. I first downloaded to check it out, but ended up buying it in virgin records just like thugs revenege album lol. Very nice F*****g album.
Another solid one from B!.......2006-08-04
This is another breather album. I'm glad and proud to say that Bizzy still continues to do what is from the heart.Listening to B's last few albums has kept my love going for REAL hip hop. Though the production was lacking in his past albums; like most have criticized. I myself am able to look past that and see that this man is making music from the soul. If you listen to his music for what corporate rap has to offer you will be greatly dissapointed. Listen to his heart as he is able to spill it to those whom want to listen.
The kid.......2006-07-15
i like this album. a huge step up in sound production. lyrics are ill as always. the remixes are dope cuz the flow is altered making it a whole lot easier to catch the lyrical content. its strange how with bizzy, i feel as a listener always ready for more. it may be cuz his flow is very current and evolving in the moment along with the world(jihad). i hear his new album is highlighting the koran and the truth of allah. peace another good contribution to the culture of faith music. oh yea...playalitical did a good job here with production and not a bad emcee. usually i'm not feelin the guest performances besides alpha/omega. aiight yo 1

An artistic lowpoint.......2006-10-01
When I first popped in Bizzy Bone's 6th solo album I didn't know what to expect. I mean, it had been mere months since his last album dropped, and I really wasn't expecting a new Bizzy disc for quite sometime. Although I was worried about the value of said material, I went ahead and bought the disc on the strength of Bizzy's abilities. The first thing that I noticed on this disc was the inclusion of religious messages on EVERY SINGLE song. This is not only repititive, it's preachy, contradictory, and hypocritical. The only song on here not laced with Christian overtones is "Bizzy's Story", a remake of "We Want Eazy" where Bizzy the Kid goes over his career and personal life over the past few years. I also noticed the lack of real verses, which really bothered me. Bizzy is a very talented singer, and I appreciate his vocal abilities when matched by passionate spitting, but he really underwhelmed me by the lack of lyrics on this cd. Also, "So What Cha Sayin" is really the only up-tempo track on the cd. "Future Thugz-N-Harmony" is terrible. The verses are a straight jack of "All My Life" from Thug's Revenge, and half of the chorus is also ripped off from "Thug'z Prayer" from the same cd. The beats aren't that bad, but they're not very distracting from the constant barrage of religious material and really carry a lot of the tracks from medocrity. Also, is it just me or are "The Truth" and "Represent" the same song? Aren't they really just an intro and an outro? Aren't the same beat? If so, why are two seperate producers credited with the same music? I don't understand. This is Bizzy's most confounding project since Heaven'z Movie, except it has none of the redeeming qualities. The ONLY reason I gave this album three stars is because it's Bizzy bone, the beats are alright, and when Bizzy does get around to spitting it's usually worth listening to. I heard Bizzy converted to Islam (recently, after this album was recorded), I wonder if he'll play ANY of these songs live considering they all reference Jesus Christ as the son of God. I guess this album has another good contributing factor, ironic hilarity.
Gotta be honest.......2006-08-08
I've been a Bone fan for 12 years and Bizzy's first 3 solos are classics in my opinion. However, all of the fears that Speaking In Tongues brought to my mind were confirmed by this release. I still think that Bizzy's a uniquely talented and spiritual man, but he seems to have surrounded himself with wack producers and low expectations. The repetative hooks and sparse verses are particularly disappointing.
Straight in words........2006-07-26
Bizzy solos are great. He writes what in his heart and you will rarely find that in any rapper and he has a good singing voice with the addition to rapping which is a rare thing to find with rappers. I would buy any of his albums. He just keeps it real. Buy it you maybe shock in what you hear from him.
A true Artist.......2006-07-24
I think this album is masterfully put together. Real Talk Entertainment gets my acknowledgement for some nice studio work with Bryon. It is just ironic maybe that messages this deep and spiritual are playing in my life right now. Nice beats and great lyrics from the master song writer.
"There is only One True God"
He is doing the right thing........2006-07-18
This album is not bad at all. He just released 2 albums. 1 straight gansta "thugs Revenge" and this one "The Story" is everything that comes from his heart. He has to realise that the guys who talk crap about him is the devil trying to get into his head. You found god already nothing else should be bothering you. Both albums are very nice. People gotta realise its his life, and he is doing a darn fine job. Who can preach yet be a gangsta at the sametime? Bizzy has that gift.

Good CD.......2005-12-02
celly cell came pretty tight on this album. I only gave it four stars because it is'nt as good as the G files or Heat 4 yo azz. But his new one did a good job of coming with some new sounds on some tracks, and the same gansta old school style on some other tracks. If you like celly cell definately buy this cd, it's worth it. check out tracks 4,5,10,14,and 16.
It's real out here - that's real talk.......2005-06-27
I'm a huge Celly Cel fan, so I was really glad when after a long wait (almost 5 years) Celly Cel dropped his 5th solo album. I've got to admit I am a little bit dissapointed, cause all of his albums till now are classics to me, and the main reason is that I felt that the production on this one wasn't as consistant as on previous albums. Some of the beats are really good, but some just fail to impress. In terms of lyrics, Cel has always been humble, never got into that ghetto fabulous sh**. He makes music from the streets, for the streets. His flow and voice sound tight as always. Guest on the album include E-40 (who's on the best song on the album), Juvenile, WC (on a song that it's actually just a remix of a song they did on his last album "Deep Conversation"), his crew the Hillside Stranglaz (they don't impress that much) and a few others. On this album Cel shows a lot of maturity, he talks about his life, his career, to go along with the usual gangsta topics (which Celly Cel is pretty good at). It's less hard-core than his previous ones. Overall, I thought the album turned out nice, but some of the beats are lacking or didn't suit Celly Cel's style. He deserves to work with some hotter beatmakers than the one he could afford here. I think the title of the album suits it's content perfectly, and as a loyal Celly Cel fan (ever since he was on Sick Wid It) I enjoyed hearing from his once again...
A Solid CD.......2005-03-27
I had to special order this CD, but it was worth the wait. If you are not into west coast rap, you probably wont like it. If you are into the South stuff, he's got a little something on there for you. He has some bangin' songs like tracks 9&10. The others are also very good too. He is still an innovator in the game, and has that certain flavor to him that makes him hot. This is also the deepest i've ever heard Celly's lyrics, with his final track talking about the death of his father. This is a good CD, i'd recommend that you pick it up.
Celly Cel=Gangsta.......2005-03-08
This cd is off the hook. Celly Cel is an OG and he straight drops it this album. It reminds me of myself back in the day, any true gangsta should pick this up, or any music fan for that matter.
Wow this cd has got style.......2005-03-04
Celly Cel back again in 2005 with nice album. This tru West Coast Music which have got synthesizer bass sound and a lot of great gangsta rhymes, thise man is OG and he from Bay Area this is gangsta getto where black people shut each other and they are exploitation from white goverment in the USA.( Bloods & Crips and the other gangs wchich are situated in all Cali)But Celly Cel don't give up and try to make a good cd. The effect is great. Becouse he is from Sicc Wic Record and cooperate with great mc like Spice1 E-40 B-Legit C-bo, and great producers like Mike Moesly and Studio Ton. Effetc is great. If you are west coast fan oh no If you like good music with a lot of bass sound and gangsta lyrics this album is for you. This is good alternative to MTv

Hot For The Clubs! Just Right For The Streets! .......2006-11-03
This is a hot cd!Choppa has matured a lot since his Straight From The N.O. release. This cd has good lyrics(although Choppa wont win any awards for lyricism)and great production. This cd offers a mixture between club and street tracks. It's a nice departure from the mainstream commercial music that has taken over the Hip Hop/Rap industry.
