Class Is Now In Session {5 Stars}.......2007-01-23
With this 1990 release, Boogie Down Productions was steamrolling their way to legendary status. This was back when BDP dropped fresh material every year from '87 (Criminal Minded) until '92 (Sex & Violence), so that's not necessarily as easy as it may sound. With classic tracks like "Love's Gonna Get 'Cha", "Ya Strugglin' ", "House Ni***s", "100 Guns" (Ja Rule bit this joint), "Beef", and "Blackman In Effect", you know that the album is, at the very least, doper than most other 1990 hip hop releases. But there are solid tracks laced throughout the album and there are no fillers. Personally, I can't imagine why anyone would give this album less than 5 stars, but that's just me. This album is just as fresh now as it was 17 (oh my god, 17 years?!!!) years ago.
As far as flaws, I can't think of any. Sure, KRS gets political, so obviously it's going to rub some people the wrong way (like most political stances do), but I loved it and saw nothing wrong with it. The beats are strictly b-boy styled boom bap vibes and nothing less. If you ain't feelin' that, then you may be browsing the wrong genre for your music.
Edutainment is just that -- educational entertainment. There isn't a beat that KRS One can't get busy on and he entertains the masses with knowledge instead of dreams of material prosperity. Hip hop heads all around the world (myself included) recognize him as one of the illest to ever stand in front of a microphone. The production is on point, so what more could you ask for? I recommend grabbing this album if you cross paths with it.

Classic CD from back in the day. If you want to hear real hip hop from the Bronx, listen to this.

This album is great but totally different.
This and Blueprint of Hiphop are so unique from BDP's other albums.
While I like the old albums better, this new style still earns 5 stars.
Too bad they're in the past.

This is one of the sickest, and most appropriately titled, albums ever in any genre. KRS-One lays down his manifesto immediately on "Blackman in Effect" and doesn't let up one ounce on gems such as "Beef" "Edutainment" House Niggas" "Ya Know the Rules" etc etc etc. In Fact, the only tracks I don't like on this record are "Love's Gonna Getcha" and "30 Cops or More". Every other track on this is slammin' in my humble opinion. Way back in the day I would play this constantly along with "By Any Means" and "Ghetto Music"

This is a very insightful rap album. BDP's longest album is also their most expermental. KRS-One takes on such topics such as racism, the homeless, gun violence, and even the meat industry. Favorites include Beef, Ya Know the Rules, Love's Gonna Get'cha, Ya Strugglin', and The Kenny Parker Show. This is a true hip hop classic which I could say about all BDP's albums.

Straight Up HipHop.......2005-02-19
This album just caught me as straight up Hip Hop, and its Great, a Good Emcee, Good True School beats and an overall feeling of a Fly album! Stand out tracks are Fresh, Run Of The Mill (original)and Rocksteady (which samples the Ollie & Jerry Classic 'aint no stoppin us'. If you like the LA True School hiphop like P.U.T.S and J5 then you'll love this
