Sublime!!!.......2004-03-16
This CD is probably one of my favorite instrumental CDs in my collection. The tranquil and serene thoughts rush in everytime I listen to the songs from Second Nature. George's music is always a beautiful portrayal of what our minds are capable of - boundless peace and love. Be sure to check out his rendition of the theme from "A River Runs Through It."
from Solo Piano Publications.......2003-10-05
"Second Nature" is quite simply one of the most beautiful recordings I've ever heard. George Skaroulis' piano music is effortless, full of grace, and emotionally uplifting without any sticky sweetness or pretension. One senses a very giving and gentle soul behind the music, making the album all the more likable. "Soothing" and "relaxing" are words that are used to describe so many albums in this genre (most of them, actually!), but peace and tranquility emanate from each piece - although several are dark and moody (I like that!!!). This is a collection of twenty-one pieces that would be a wonderful backdrop for almost any activity, but I found myself stopping to listen more carefully each of the ten or twelve times I've played it (so far! - this one ain't gonna collect dust on the shelf!). As a piano teacher, I listen to piano music for a living; and as a reviewer, I listen to piano music in most of my free time. It takes a lot to knock me out, and "Second Nature" has done it. Skaroulis' music is immediately accessible without any commercialism. He expresses his deepest emotions without manipulating listeners or hitting them over the head with the obvious.
Along with his original compositions, Skaroulis has included a beautiful vocal/piano arrangement of "The Water Is Wide." Vocal selections on a mostly-instrumental album can be annoying, but this one fits in beautifully. He has also included poignant arrangements of two of Mark Isham's movie themes - "A River Runs Through It" and "Mrs. Soffel". And then there are the originals. There are too many favorites to name them all, but I'll try to give you a sampling. The title track is stunning - bittersweet, full of longing, and yet flowing like a river. "Reflection" is a shimmering vignette at under two minutes in length, but the openness of the emotions expressed make it a standout. "Aqua Clara" takes a different approach than the other pieces, and has lyrics spoken in Italian. More orchestrated and rhythmic than most of the other tracks, the piano, strings, and voices convey a wide range of emotions. A mysterious piece, Paul Mercer's violin adds a dark and haunting quality. "Cold Morning Shadow" was co-written with Mercer; keyboards support Mercer's sorrowful viola, melting into the ambient "Awakening." The CD closes with a reprise of "Aqua Clara" that is simple, elegant, and very sad.
"Second Nature" is nothing short of amazing. I could go on for days, but give yourself a treat! I can't imagine that anyone would be disappointed in this CD unless they were looking for rap or maybe a polka record. Great stuff! I give it my highest recommendation.

“Winter Journey” is a collection of twelve piano solos comprised of three original pieces and nine arrangements of traditional Christmas songs. Scott D. Album Description
An enchanting and memorable contemporary ballet score that blends signature compositions with orchestral and ethnic elements to create a contemporary winter classic. One might describe this production as Hans Christian Andersen meets Cirque du Soleil!
Customer Reviews:
The Snow Queen- moving music.......2000-04-01
Randall Michael Tobin is truly gifted. He has created music that really shows the personality of each of the characters in the ballet. Even so, the music stands alone. Though you may not have never seen the ballet, you can still enjoy this music. Even if you don't think you like ballet, you will enjoy this CD, from the jazzy crow, to the poignant Snow Queen herself.
Majestic music.......2000-03-14
The music of The Snow Queen is rich, lush and elegant, yet accessible. With melodies that are lyrical and highly varied, the music stands on its own apart from the live stage performance through many repeated listenings. Having seen the show, several pieces easily bring back visual imagery of the ballet, most notably the playful bump & grind of "The Crow". Tobin provides a whimsical tapestry of many colors with his orchestrations. Hans Christian Andersen would approve.
Music to take you where you want to go!.......2000-03-11
I have listened to the music from The Snow Queen - Ballet Redefined by Randall Michael Tobin. This music is very alive and keeps me interested and listening throughout the CD (not like listening to classical music that puts me to sleep). Mr. Tobin has created a wonderful world where you can create anything you want while listening to his compositions. I have a copy of the CD in my car and play it when I want to relax from the stress of life.
The Snow Queen - Ballet Redefined.......2000-03-10
Some music will go down through the ages. The music on this CD fits into this catagory. It will be something that people of all ages can enjoy and appreciate. I bought one of the CD's for my neighbor this past holiday season. He announced to me the other day that he will have to purchase another copy as he has worn out several of the tracks already! Wow!

Customer Reviews:
A New Age Classic from the '80s.......2006-12-22
This album was previously only released on cassette and out of print for many years. It was Suzanne Doucet's and Christian Buehner's first new age instrumental album which they recorded in 1982 in Munich/Germany. Suzanne had started her own record label and Christian and Suzanne came to the USA in 1983 with their first cassettes "Transformation" and "Transmission". Both albums were amongst the critically acclaimed great New Age Classics of the early '80s. Suzanne and Christian recorded acoustic sounds such as Waterdrops and vocals before there was sampling or midi using sophisticated sound manipulation devices and mulitrack recording tricks. The only electronic instruments used were the Jupiter 8 (before midi) and the Roland 909 drum machine. Suzanne and Christian also used Nature Sounds, guitars, percussion and a grand piano. The beginning track "Attunement" was recorded and edited in a studio session while the musicians tuned their instruments. A very unique album by two pioneers of the genre. A must have for every New Age Collection!

Product Description
LOST WORLD is the name of a Russian Progressive rock band, founded in the year 1990 by Andrii DIDORENKO (Guitar, bass & violin), Vassily SOLOVIEV (Flute & drums) and Alex AKIMOV (Keyboards & programming), who were music college students at that time. After a period of intensive gigging and recording between 1991 and 1994, the singer Alexei RYBAKOV joined the group. Seven albums were recorded in a five year-period, self-released in a very limited quantity as burned CDs. Let's also mention the participation in the Music For Brains concert series in winter-spring 1999. The first official studio album of LOST WORLD eventually saw the light of day on the Boheme Music label in 2003. Shortly before the release of "Trajectories", Alexei RYBAKOV decided it was time for a move. The band could be heard performing on the 2005 and 2006 editions of the InProg festival in Moscow. Their second album "Awakening Of The Elements" eventually sees the light of day at the end of this year 2006. And this is great news for the Musea label, that welcomes the Slavic band in its catalogue ! These twelve instrumental pieces reveal a very high musical level, worthy of the flattering reputation gained by the Russian classical musicians. And it's not by chance if the classical influences are so much present, sharing the front of the stage with the British School of Progressive rock, reminding the way of other fellow countrymen such as LITTLE TRAGEDIES or HORIZONT. Here's a very dynamic and lively music, with incredible violin parts, frantic but not heavy rhythms, and suggestive melodies. The ingredients that make this real masterpiece might recall KANSAS or UK here and there, without forgetting the Japanese musicians of KBB, but this is mostly for the pleasure of finding comparisons. This music is above all full of personality and enthusiasm. Here's a natural candidate to the Best Album of the Year award !

In the late 1990s, it's hip-hop that seems to blow up from local scenes to national attention on the basis of a couple of strong artists and an entrepreneurial label; witness the ascension of Eightball, Master P, and Jay-Z. In may be in that spirit--though not the post-gangsta sound favored by those three--that Classic Elements was put together. And while the album is a showcase for a few genuine talents (Producer DJ Sayeed, Ghetto Children, and Source of Labor primary among them), the majority of the album features MCs that are not yet ready for prime time. It's a shame, because the production deserves far better, with Sayeed, Mathematic, and Brian Weber contributing some truly interesting backing tracks--funky, danceable, and as instrumentally adventurous as anything that Wu-Tang's RZA has done to date. --Randy Silver
Customer Reviews:
Classic Elements... CLASSICK RECORD!!!.......2007-02-15
When it comes to Seattle hip-hop and the many records that have come out of this fair city, this is one of the best. Currently, Seattle is starting to get its shine with artists like Blue Scholars/Common Market, Boom Bap Project and producers like Vitamin D, Bean One and Jake One. But, this comp, which was released in the late 90s, shows how much potential the city had ten years ago. For those who are just getting into the Seattle sceene and for those who just like dope music, this comp is worth picking up. It really is "Classic Elements" DJs, emcees and that good boom bap.
A Great Representation of Seattle's Scene.......2000-12-01
Aside from the second song, this entire CD shows how well Seattle can represent in the hip-hop scene. With artists like Ghetto Children, Black Anger, and Source of Labor (who are really starting to make a name for themselves), this CD shows how Seattle is producing some incredible forward-thinking, head-nodding hip-hop. If you want to tune in to some great underground music that will get you appreciating good musicianship and thoughtful lyrics, pick this up.

Album Description
Moulin Noir has been active on the Swedish synthpop/new wave scene for many years, but this album servse is the perfect introduction to the broader market. "The White Room" serves up a great variety of synthpop styles, ranging from hard-hitting dark synthpop to trance-influenced tracks, to classic new wave/new romantic styles that remind the listener of the 80's pioneers like Gary Numan, Ultravox, etc.
This collection features old and new songs, plus several exclusive remixes.
Customer Reviews:
Best support to seeing live.......2005-07-18
I saw These guys live in MPLs last year and it was wonderful!!! The energy of the music is really conveyed on this CD. More club sounding than his other stuff. His other CDS are good but I like this one the best!! He is able to make his music poppy yet bring the bring the club beat!! makes you just wanna get up and dance!
better then most.......2003-02-28
As in the case by buying random synthpop on the strength of a single or two, you usually get let down by the rest of the album. i.e. the single is dance/club oriented and then you buy the album to find out the singles don't represent the album and all the others songs are mellow and boring. This CD actually lives up to the singles, Maria calling etc. and presents you with strong songs throughout. I think there is at least 3 songs on this cd that could be released as singles. I haven't heard there latest single, so I can't tell if it's worth getting on the strength of the remixes. This cd is a lot better then most recent synthpop releases. Although this is a group you may not have heard from before, if you like PET SHOP BOYS i.e. dancy and melodic club songs, then you should like this cd.
Nu-Romantic Lives!.......2003-02-27
I've been a big fan of Moulin Noir for a few years now. His cd's were difficult to get until A Different Drum came along and started carrying them. This release is older material re-mixed into more of a "club" atmosphere and includes some GREAT new tracks. This guy has a great voice with an incredible range. The music fits well in the new romantic vein of the early 80's, but carries more of a modern edge. Highly recommended for fans of gary numan, john foxx, ultravox...and I'm sure you know the rest. If you haven't heard his music yet, this is a great place to start.
a great collection from the past and present........2002-12-27
at 76:53 long, this is a packed cd. this cd is a collection of old and new moulin noir selections remixed, remastered. some of the older songs that didn't do alot for me in the past, were remixed in a way that made my eyebrows rise. dj ram does a killer version of "The White Room" to open up this great cd. this cd contains songs remixed by dj ram, the nine, shades of grey, kaj, and mr Todd Durrant from a different drum. all of these groups/people are staples in the synthpop world. they have each added their own style to these tracks. a concept album this is not. it is however a great collection of great songs from an artist that given the right timing would be very big in the market. comparison wise. some has an early gary numan feel to them, while others almost sound like assemblage 23 with the deep voice. check it out for yourself. you won't be let down.
i love the cd, i hope you do too.
Stay away from this one !!.......2002-06-29
I am a synthpop fan but this album just doesn't work for me personally. It's very inconsistent, especially the vocal. I am not saying the whole album is worthless, there are some good songs too such as "Spellbound" & "The White Room." But that's it!! One may experiment with the music, but they definitely need more consistency in creating a sound album. A couple of okay songs don't do any justice at all. Maybe what they need is a great producer to work with..... so they can bring themselves up to the next level. At this state, it's simply POOR. TOO BAD. Peace!!

Album Description
The tracks on DUSK crossover several genres: Pop, New Soul, and Hot Adult Contemporary. REUBEN's sound merges classic songwriting with modern production. The clarity of his songs and voice have been compared to early Stevie Wonder, Prince, and Joni Mitchell, while his sonic palette is a unique blend of electronic and acoustic elements reminiscent of Tricky, Bjork, and Radiohead.
Customer Reviews:
Curious, Lovely.......2002-11-06
Before I heard this album I saw Reuben perform in New York, playing piano and singing writerly pop songs with an angelic white-soul voice. Charmed, I bought the album expecting the same, but was shocked and oddly thrilled to instead hear what sounded like the lovechild of Annie Lennox and Stevie Wonder staying up late nights with home recording equipment and lots of strong mint tea. It was the same gorgeous voice I'd heard live, but here were melodically dense pop soul songs built from crackling samples and drum loops, live instrument parts, soaring vocal harmonies and above all, a studied and singular musicality that made it all fit. Strange, familiar, beautifully imperfect, and refreshing. Like an old Motown 45rpm rolling down the sidewalks of the East Village. This album feels just lovely.
"DUSK": Rich in Emotion and Musical Talent.......2002-10-28
"DUSK": Rich in Emotion and Musical Talent
While listening to "DUSK", the long-awaited debut CD from Reuben Butchart, I envisioned that I was listening to Robbie Williams' younger brother. Reuben, who only goes by his first name, has heartfelt soul to spare, but he also has a quality in his voice and deliverance that evokes a hungry sense of yearning and a wide-eyed youthfulness and innocence, as if he's still looking at the world with fascination. It's a quality that many artists strive for but simply can't create. As Reuben sings on "DUSK", his voice is accented by smooth grooves, jazz-flavored rhythms, and electronic zings. He's aided by expert musicians as well; the violin segment at the end of "Justified", for example, makes for a particularly striking musical touch. The lyrics, all written by Reuben, seem to document his voyage through the mountains and the valleys of romance. Despite the vulnerability in his voice at the beginning of the CD, Reuben's not afraid to confront a possibly neglectful lover in "Do Something". A looser sound is explored in "Care of Myself". "Me and Rico", the best song on the CD, is destined to become a classic anthem for a new generation of love songs; never before has an ode to a lover sounded more refreshingly fun or real. "Service Man", in which Reuben declares, "Treat me like I am your service man... my duty is to service you" may be the most dignified nod to masochism that you're likely to hear.
Ever so subtly, the lyrics and music on "DUSK" become more alive as Reuben's personal journey towards romantic fufillment reaches its destination. The same way Reuben's voice can emote vulnerability yet retain its pride, it can emote the joys of love without becoming saccharine or giddy. By the time we reach the end of "DUSK", Reuben definitely seems to have found happiness. And now, the roles are reversed. At the beginning of the CD, it was Reuben who was yearning and searching; but when "DUSK" comes to an end, it's now the listener who's yearning... for Reuben's next CD.
Great CD for your collection.......2002-10-17
Dusk is a great CD that should be in any collection. The good blend of various genres of music make this album appealing.
