Short-lived and with only a limited output, this five-piece bluegrass band nevertheless helped spread the gospel of this extraordinary genre via the famous coattails of its most notorious member: Jerry Garcia. However, they were no novelty act. Breakdown is the second posthumous release culled from a series of 1973 concerts in San Francisco. At a robust 70 minutes, the album flows like a complete live set, featuring scrumptious musicianship and harmonious camaraderie. Much better than the eponymous debut from 1975--and a perfect second volume companion to 1996's equally worthy That High Lonesome Sound--Breakdown features covers of greats Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs, originals by the band's guitarist Peter Rowan, fiddler Vassar Clements and banjoist Garcia. A must own for any fan of acoustic music and a great primer for bluegrass neophytes. --Greg Emmanuel

Breakdown: Live Recordings.......2007-05-12
Great Bluegrass music! A must have for the fan of the genre.
Real Bluegrass But With An Innovative Approach.......2006-01-20
What I like about this band is that is they are able to mix authentic bluegrass with a little something more experimental and unique. For example, the songs include several covers from bluegrass legends like Bill Monroe and the Stanley Brothers. But also some originals, mostly written by guitarist Peter Rowan. Actually I think Rowan demonstrates outstanding song writing ability on songs like "Panama Red" and "Midnight Moonlight". So it's a shame that he remained in relative obscurity as a musician. But still his music shines through on this album. I also love the mandolin sound of David Grisman and Vassar Clements' fiddle playing!
Among the traditional songs, I especially liked the patriotic "Down Where The River Bends" and the old gospel tune "Drifting Too Far From The Shore". It's ironic because the lyrics of these songs are so different from my personal experience and yet they manage to move me deeply. It's funny how music can do that to you. In any case, this is a fine album and I recommend it highly to both straight-up bluegrass lovers and rock fans drawn to it by Jerry Garcia. Good stuff!
Just Excellent!!.......2005-09-15
I grew up on bluegrass, and then as i got older I grew away from it. Years later I was listening to Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, etc.. It was after listening to "Cumberland Blues" off the Dead's Workingmans Dead album that I heard the banjo in the background. I found out later it was Garcia. Looked into it further and found Old & In the Way years ago. I've been playing banjo going on 14 years now because of Jerry, and the love for the music that I rediscovered. A lot of people put down his playing, but you try picking a banjo with your thumb, pointy and ring (middle finger was chopped off in accident as a child) and you'll see his handicap didn't slow him down. The rest of the musicians are excellent as well. Vassar was a fiddling Wonder! And the "dawg" is great as well. All three OAITW albums are classics!
Vassar--Goodbye and Hello.......2005-08-19
I agree wholeheartedly with reviewer Cox here. Most will come for Garcia, but will stay for Vassar. The group playing is a little ragged here and there (a live performance, after all), but so much is first rate bluegrass, and I've never heard Vassar Clements so fiery--more daring than on his work with Nitty Gritty DB (which is also splendid), Bela Fleck, or even on his solo albums. Grisman is a delight as always, bur VC steals the show. Sorry to say, I just read Vassar's obit in the NYTimes yesterday. Alas. But this CD is a reminder of his great talent.
Fantastic album.......2005-08-15
In short, this is one immensely satisfying bluegrass album. The three soloists (Garcia, Clements, and Grisman) are excellent, and Clements' fiddling is jaw-dropping. Grisman, as usual, displays a keen sense of phrasing and a still-astonishing speed. Garcia can actually play the banjo with some ability, though his solo breaks are usually restricted to the melody or some spruced-up chord progression. It's interesting that after almost every solo, Jerry gets some cheers--from G.D. fans, I imagine--while Grisman and Clements (both of whom are vastly superior to Garcia in bluegrass terms) rarely get much individual applause.
I'm not trying to disparage Garcia's playing--he definitely holds it together, and considering his G.D. history, I was surprised by his abilities.
The group excells at making the songs accessible, both in the choice of songs and in the playing.
Some particularly enjoyable songs:
Kissimmee Kid (Clements and Grisman shine)
Wild Horses
Midnight Moonlight
The Hobo Song
Buy this album immediately. It's certainly worth it; when I first bought it, it didn't leave my car stereo for about 2 weeks.

Household Favorite.......2007-06-08
I got to first and foremost admit to being a huge Collective Soul fan. Well, this was the first record that came out since I've enjoyed listening to them so much, so naturally, I bought and fell in love with it almost immediately.
For Collective Soul, this is very similar to 2 of their other albums (even more so than the rest). Disciplined Breakdown breaks down like Collective Soul (the second record) and also like Blender (the fifth record). This is more consistently melodic than Blender while also seeming more consistently heavy than Collective Soul.
Less generally speaking, I love the songs here. Like Full Circle fits the title and somewhat tells a story while remaining melodic, catchy, a rock song, and a typical Collective Soul song. They took a stab at perfection with all of the brilliant timing setup in Blame: that song is just marvelous the way it all comes together. That old titlecut Disciplined Breakdown, well, here's the breakdown: not a radio single but it is the best song on the record. More???...well, it has it all--it is just a well-writen, fierce, complete song.
The songs on this album are vividly complex, by the way. I think Ed and Dean Rollands' Songwriting abilities really come through on this record. Wow, what a winner.
Outstanding!.......2005-12-02
What a great CD! Haven't taken it out of CD player since I first heard it! I'm a newcomer to CS, starting with Youth and working my way backwards to the beginning of their collection--This is one terrific CD that I, as many other viewers, keep playing each song two and three times over until I get to the next song. This one just rocks! Every single song is awesome! Great lyrics, great writing. To me, this is the best one and not to be missed.
not a critic, however opinionated.......2005-02-15
Another solid outing by Collective Soul
Precious Declaration gets the album off to an energetic start with a little of CS' way of telling it like it is. Things soften a little with Listen and Maybe, yet both songs show an intricacy and level of emotion not present in many songs today--especially Maybe. Full Circle is one of those feel-good songs, but it is a little too light musically--maybe it's the harmonica, maybe the horns--there is a definite yet very slight annoying quality. Blame is bookended by short acoustic numbers--maybe to calm listeners in advance of the harsh lyrics(that is, if they could refer to you). The title track is classic saw-blade distortion seen on previous Collective Soul work, and it works well here. The next four songs--Forgiveness, Link, Giving, and In Between--all have that endearing quality and beautiful production that is always present when Collective Soul show a softer musical side. Some may be turned off by the pristine production, but at the same time it enables the listener to pick out the various details. Crowded Head definitely lets out a little frustration, and is not a favorite here musically, yet it's done well. Everything returns to the old recipe of meaningful lyrics set over top of layers and layers of clear, concise giutar work, solid lyrics and good percussion--the norm on this album. Collective Soul continue to mature with this offering, and time has treated this one well.
As good as all their others. .......2004-09-01
I have always liked "Collective Soul" since their first single came out, but for some reason I never gave this third album a listen. My mistake. What a great record. I find it to be just as good as anything else they've done, so if you like anything from the debut to "Blender", you should like this. It starts with the two excellent songs "Precious Declaration" and "Listen", picks up again with the title cut and "Forgiveness", and continues to impress with "Link", "Giving", and "Everything". Overall a must for fans, and anyone who likes pop, rock, or grunge should enjoy it. I hear they're working on album #6, let's hope it's this good.
Possibly the Best of Collective Soul.......2003-07-09
I first heard of Collective Soul with the single "Shine" and I was a little impressed, but not enough to buy the CD. When "Disciplined Breakdown" came out, I decided to give it a shot. WOW!! Talk about major growth as artists!! I was amazed at the complexity and layers of their music as well as the deepness of their lyrics. "Precious Declaration" is one of my favorite songs to rock out to, "Listen" is very artistic pop/rock, "Maybe" is one of my favorite songs - speaks of the feelings you experience of losing someone close to you - beautifully acoustic guitar here. "Full Circle" and "Blame" are gems of pop/rock music as well with very intense lyrics. This was one of the most under-sold and under-rated CDs of the 90's and remains one of my most-played CDs even today. I highly recommend this band to people who value deep lyrics and artistic music... Collective Soul does not disappoint!

Album Description
Featuring original music composed by Alberto Iglesias. Adapted from the best-seller John le Carre's romantic thriller, two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz head the cast of "The Constant Gardener." In a remote area of northern Kenya, the dedicated activist Tessa Quayle (Weisz) is found brutally murdered. Her travelling companion, a local doctor, appears to have fled the scene and the evidence points to a crime of passion. Sandy Woodrow (Danny Huston), Sir Bernard Pellegrin (Bill Nighy), and other member of the British High Commission assume that Tessa's widower, their mild-mannered colleague Justin Quayle (Fiennes) will leave the matter to their discretion. They could not be more wrong... Featuring music performed by acclaimed Kenyan percussionist and Real World recording artist Ayub Ogada, Alberto Iglesias' ("La Mala Educacion," "The Dancer Upstairs," "Todo Sobre Mi Madre") lush score evokes the film's compelling African and European landscapes.

Beautiful Score.......2007-04-24
For someone like me who purchases soundtracks for the score to use for dance & skating programs, this soundtrack definitely made it into my collection. My only minus to the soundtrack is that there isn't much variety among the many tracks. But I am still able to work around it.
Only track 13.......2007-03-31
In my opinion, only track 13 is worthy of buy this CD. Track 13 is beautiful, other than that extremely depressing music...... Once again track 13 is the most beautiful adn touching music that I have ever heard!
Great Service.......2007-02-12
My CD was delivered in a very timely manner and the product was in great shape upon arrival.
A nice reminder of a very moving movie.......2007-01-12
Favorite songs are the ones by Ayub Ogada. I think it's wonderful that we found his music through this film.
it captures the spirit of the movie.......2006-11-10
I like this soundtrack because it reminds me of the movie, which I loved. I am not sure I would appreciate it much if I hadn't seen the movie and didn't have pictures in my mind for each theme. It is redolent of Africa though and that in itself is satisfying.

Good Good Greatness.......2007-07-20
I became obsesed with hot hot heat after the debut of Elevator. I couldn't believe that this band could become anymore upbeat. That is untill I listened to this album. It is simply the kind of cd that you want to listen to very LOUD while jumping around because otherwise there would be too much energy trapped inside of you. Well I guess you could jog to it too or something if you are more practical, but anyways this is a GREAT ALBUM especially if your a indie rock fan.
Sing-A-Long fun.......2006-09-06
This is party music with a 80's new-wave vibe. Every song is a hit and it's so catchy that some of the songs will stay in your head long after hearing them. Get it!
Nothing like before..........2006-08-03
When you first hear them your like "what was that?" 10 great songs to dance to, even "In cairo" the slow ballad of which he is not sure of. The whole album is full of yelping and screaming, well not much screaming more melodic. Catchy, but fast some might say to fast as one learns in the first single "bandages". having many rhymes and truths about life that come out subtlely (not sure if it is spelled right) "Make up the breakdown" is Dance, sing, catchy, truthful, and awesome!
Super Happy Funky & Energizing!!!.......2006-07-29
Every time I listen to this album, I have to jump up and down!!! Lot's of fast tempo beats and super fun lyrics! I highly recommend it!
great CD.......2006-07-21
i completely love this whole album. what's great about it is that you can never get any of these songs confused with another on the CD, each song has something different and special about it. "bandages" and "this town" are great songs. as well as everything else on the cd. but those are just my favorites. it's definately worth owning.

Those who doubt the obsessive, unbridled affection Clash mainstay Joe Strummer held for traditional rock and R&B roots need only punch up virtually any track on this infectious collection of live and studio cuts from the 101ers, the raw yet accomplished band Strummer fronted just prior to his punk superstardom. While most such early-catalog excavations are suspicious and often spotty, Elgin Avenue Breakdown Revisited is a revelatory rush, from the opening blowout of "Letsagetabitarockin'." Many of the tracks rock with the rootsy charm of fellow pub rockers Ducks Deluxe, yet one can hear the later sound of the Clash nearly fully formed on tracks like the blue-beat-seasoned "Sweet Revenge," "Keys to Your Heart," and "Junco Partner." The collection's second half kicks into even higher gear, presenting a generous slate of previously unreleased live workouts that hammer familiar R&B staples like "Shake Your Hips" and "Maybellene" into submission and closing with a frenzied rave-up of Van Morrison and Them's Brit Invasion staple, "Gloria." --Jerry McCulley

Elgin Ave. Breakdown.......2007-01-10
This is a great album. I just wish there was more 101ers to listen to.
I've Got Rabies From the Dogs of Love for This Album!.......2006-04-04
This is the first review of an album I've done on Amazon. I'm listening to it right now, and I'm just driven to tell everyone.... this is awesome! I love it. It is a must for fans of Joe Strummer. Don't expect The Clash. This is nothing like any Clash album. This is very Beatles-esque for the most part. It shows a lot of early, leather-clad rock influence.
BTW, I bought the club version, which is manufactured for BMG. I was worried about that a bit, but no longer. Sounds awesome, and the packaging is excellent, with liner notes and lyrics. I was also worried about the anti-piracy notes on the back which are not present on the non-club version. I burn backup copies of my cds not to pirate, but to use in my car. I have successfully burned a backup copy of this and other club cds.
I can't believe I found this.......2006-01-15
"Lonely Mother's Son," huh? More like Jail Guitar Doors. That track brought a big smile to my face as soon as the chorus started and I realized it was the song he'd later do as part of The Clash.
This CD is a real find, not just for completists, but for fans of old school rock and roll, and of Strummer's growling voice. If this was a little more polished and edited down, it would be London Calling quality. It's really that good. The sound quality on the live stuff is awful, but I don't wish they had left it off.
Bloody brilliant!.......2005-08-31
This record feels like a resurrection not only of the sound of original punk but of the man, Joe Strummer himself. The sound of the 101ers is every bit as fresh as his later work with The Mescaleros yet takes its place with the music of its time. Letsagetabitarockin, the first on the album, is a brilliant start to the collection. Overall this record is one that should be added to any avid Clash, punk, or in general rock 'n roll fan.
Joe Strummer was cool........2005-08-14
You know you can't get enough of Joe's modernized 40's/50's macho, so buy this disc.

Bluegrass Breakdown: 14 Instrumentals.......2007-05-16
This product was delivered on Monday, April 16th to the wrong address. The postal service is very uncooperative. They supposedly have put a trace on it.So as of today I have still not received my CD which was for a wedding in April. I finally figured out how to email Amazon last week and I still haven't heard anything from them either. I do a lot of shopping on line, but this has been a real bad experience, especially with the P.O.

This album was good, not great. If you want to hear great then get Tony Rice the bluegrass album or another one called "ultimate Pickin'" , for bluegrass with singing try ricky skaggs at charleston hall. Those are great albums, this was okay.
Great bluegrass -- Excellent value.......2003-01-05
All-instrumental collections of bluegrass are hard to find, and if you like it when a band takes a break from singing and just plays their instruments, here's your chance for total immersion. All the songs on this compilation are from Rounder Records albums released 1976-1998, by artists with familiar names like Alison Krauss and Tony Rice, and others you may never have heard of. All are first rate, foot stompin' renditions of bluegrass traditionals, with a few great originals -- Bill Monroe's "Bluegrass Breakdown" and Earl Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Chimes." Best known for most listeners is a rousing version of "Orange Blossom Special" by the Johnson Mountain Boys. If you like bluegrass with plenty of pickin' at breakneck speed, this CD will keep you smilin' through many, many replays.
Bluegrass Breakdown: 14 Instrumentals.......2002-02-06
I liked only the tracks 1 and 6. The songs have good banjo picking but are not beautiful enough to keep me listening more than one time.
Bluegrass Breakdown.......2000-09-04
...It's a shame the scale only goes to 5 stars, because this CD is...if you know and love Bluegrass is of the best I've heard in a long time..not withstanding the major bands out there!!!...If you crave Bluegrass.....GET THIS CD.....!!!!

Nothing but hits.......2001-01-31
As with their first collection of label highlights, Hyperion's new two-disc collection provides a broad sampling of their exceptional catalogue and performers. Particularly rewarding are the selections from Beethoven (Scherzo from String Trio in C minor, op 9 no 3, performed by the Leopold Trio) and Thomas Tallis (Salvator mundi I, performed by the Winchester Cathedral Choir), but experienced and novice listeners alike will find much to enjoy on these discs. It's also a good value--more than 2 1/2 hours of music for less than $10.

You want heavy, this is heavy!!.......2006-12-02
I really love moshcore, it's the most angry, and and loudest! Bassist Aaron was right, it'll make your heart pump faster! In my opinion, "House Of Straw", "Twelth Stroke Of Midnight", "Trail Of Crumbs", "Let Down Your Hair", and "Second Star At The Right" are the best tracks in this album.
1."House Of Straw" 11/10- Beginning was great, awesome screaming! "Holding hands with a liar!"
2."A Glass Slipper" 10/10- Began with Mat screaming out TAKE IT BACK!! This was fast and really good!
3."Poison Apple" 9.5/10- This was OK, the beginning sounded kinda werid.
4."Twelth Stoke Of Midnight" 11/10- The intro was great! With heavy guitars and love when Mat screams very fast.
5."Trail Of Crumbs" 10/10- The beginning was awesome! One of my favorites.
6."A Wishing Well" 10/10- Great screaming! Intro began with Mat's awesome screaming!
7."Let Down Your Hair" 10/10- I love this song! Love when they go "I hear your heart, and it sounds the bells of WAR!!
8."Mirror, Mirror" 9/10- This song was a little slower at the beginning, with drumming at the intro, and some parts were kinda catchy.
9."Second Star To the Right" 10/10- The beginning was awesome! This is another one of my favorites. Love when Mat goes "my faith in humanity died, calling out her name!"
10."The Enchanted Rose"- nothing special
11."House Of Brick" 10/10- I love this song! Great guitars at the beginning too, and tremendous screaming in this song, so beautiful.
This album was amazing! Heavy guitars! Mat's angry, grumpy, and loud screaming! And great, fast drumming too!
Definitely worth the money.......2006-09-19
These guys were at the Family Values Tour this year, and they were one of the best bands there. They played some songs off of this album and I'm going to buy it now. It says a lot about a band when they're good live and not just in the recording studio. If you like scream metal this CD is worth picking up.
Heavy, Heavy, Heavy.......2006-09-03
A very good cd from the band currently touring on the Family Values Tour this year. And from someone who saw them live on said tour, they do not disappoint in any way, shape or form. Get ready for hard, heavy riffs, and prepare to have a headache when it's all over with.
Quite the satisfying skullcracker.......2006-08-21
Due to the recent popularity resurgence of heavy metal (particularly hardcore influenced metal), a number of cool bands have kind of slipped through the cracks and are unjustifiably dismissed as being an untalented Johnny-come-lately. Consider Bury Your Dead: there are several other mosh/hardcore groups out there today and some of them are fairly popular, so bands like this one are sometimes passed off as a poor man's Hatebreed. But BYD should be (and probably will become) quite a bit more popular, because this genre has many loyal fans, and "Beauty And The Breakdown" (the Boston-based quintet's junior release) is actually very good. The musicianship and songwriting on display here are, while not awe-inspiring, completely solid and professional. The songs ooze with blistering guitars and cement-block-to-your-head drums which accumulate to produce catchy, brutal rhythms. And, of course, the songs are made complete when straight-from-the-gut (though generic) vocals and powerful, well-placed breakdowns are added. Album highlights are the super-heavy, churning rhythms on the two opening tracks ("House Of Straw" and "A Glass Slipper"), the explosive, bulldozing "The Poison Apple," the rapid power chords and propulsive, driving double bass work which fuels "A Wishing Well," and the door closing "House Of Brick," which sounds like a waterfall spewing...uh...bricks. Ultimately, "BATB" is nothing you haven't heard before, but that's a small price to pay for the immense levels of great energy and brute force found here.
moshcore masters return.......2006-08-14
Bury your dead are baco with their fourth album, "Beauty and the breakdown". Sort of a concept album in the very loosest term, the booklet for the story tells a "fairytale" about a corrupt king. This album is just as heavy and brutal as the previous three, except the band experiments just a little bit with keyboards on a couple tracks on here, but they make it work . A very good album from a very good band

Good instrumental.......2007-02-05
THis is a good instrumental bluegrass album. It is not as good as "ultimate Pickin'" . That was an amazing album but this isn't bad.
We need more of this!.......2005-09-03
Bravo CMH - this is what we need. Bluegrass instrumentals are quite rare these days and the best of them were done in the 1970's. CMH have delivered a fine package for the bluegrasser who prefers not to listen to a bluegrass voice which often detracts from the fine acoustic music. Let us be honest and say that many singers have B-Awful voices and instrumentals like this terrific collection are wonderful to locate. Thank you CMH.
Bluegrass magic.......2003-10-03
There are lots of wonderful Bluegrass albums around, but this one is really great. I recommend it very highly, and would give it more than five stars if possible. Every song is brilliant and it is impossible to single out any one track as better than the rest. Even non-bluegrass fans would enjoy this album if they like first-rate musicians plying their trade. A truly excellent album!

"There's a place that we must go: into the soul, into the heart, into the dark" sings Melissa Etheridge in "Into the Dark"; it might serve as the refrain for the entire album, her first since 1995's Your Little Secret. In Breakdown, the singer-songwriter returns to the studio recharged and with a newfound confessional maturity that is at once vulnerable and searingly direct. Despite her phenomenal successes, Etheridge confronts the insecurities of obsessive desire ("Angels Would Fall," with its intricate overlay of religious imagery, touches a new level compared to the savage rawness of her classic "Like the Way I Do"), a bitter breakup ("Stronger than Me"), and an adolescent's confused sexual identity ("Mama I'm Strange"). This journey into the heart of darkness comprises not only sharp-edged self-reflection but also the painful vision of "Scarecrow," a drum & bass-anchored lament for gay murder victim Matthew Shepard. There's a therapeutic sense of catharsis throughout that makes the serenity of "My Lover" and "Sleep" seem like a hard-earned conclusion. With her vocals steely, acid-washed, and forthright as ever, Etheridge and coproducer/lead guitarist John Shanks concoct a rich and tightly webbed acoustic-and-amplified soundscape. Several of the songs have a sameness of tone, but Etheridge's passion never sounds fake, whether in the guitar-charged chorus of the title track or "Enough of Me"'s gently rising chords. And in its total effect, Etheridge's Breakdown sounds a lot more like a breakthrough to still a higher level. --Tom May
Customer Reviews:
Melissa Etheridge Breakdown.......2007-06-26
This album is definitely one of the most beautiful albums i've ever heard. the song "My Lover" is a very sensual song and is my favorite on the album. Other greats are Scarecrow (the song about matthew shepard) Angels would fall, Mama I'm Strange....and so on. All the songs are great though, its more of a dark, depressing album, as she made this right after her breakup with julie cypher. This album is a definite must buy for anyone who loves good music and loves melissa etheridge.
Beautifully Done...Deeply Emotional.......2005-06-23
Melissa Etheridge reaches deep into the depths of her soul for this one. The album consists of 11 tracks that will touch you emotionally in some way. These heartfelt songs speak to the lonely and outcast. Feelings of break-ups, finding oneself, love lost and found, bigotry, honesty, and the confusing feelings of sexuality are the themes of this wonderful album..
Etheridge's voice is beautiful and soothing, and she captures just the right emotions and feelings for each song. In the song "Scarecrow" which she dedicates to the memomry of Matthew Shepard, his family and friends, she says :
"showers of your crimson blood
seep into a nation calling up a flood
thinly veiled intolerance
bigotry and hate....
I can't forget hard as I try
this silhoutte against the sky"
Other songs included are of course, the powerful "Breakdown", "Angels Would Fall", a very touching, "Mama I'm Strange",, and the beautiful "Sleep".(See buying info for complete track listings).
The music, musicians, and Melissa are outstanding. The album is an excellent quality, and includes a fold out pamphlet with all the words to the songs. It runs a little over 50 minutes in total. The CD is enhanced for viewing on a pc, and has instructions for pc and mac users (Quicktime 3.0 or better is required).
Etheridge fans will get lost deeply in this beautifully done album.
Laurie
BREAKDOWN...TRULY.......2004-05-17
After a hiatus of 4 years from "Your Little Secret" to "Breakdown", Melissa expirienced many different stages of life, motherhood, divorce, love, and fame(criticism over her lifestyle), some of this would be consider perfect stage for some killer self-written tracks, but Breakdown, found Melissa more tame and less clever than her previous albums, the record it's not that bad, but lacks of innovation or something else, to propell the album to a higher level, the album is just flat, outstanding in the album release cuts Enough Of Me, Angels Would Fall, and the unrelease track Into The Dark. But the rest of the album is soon fogetable, and not as deep as Yes I Am, and not as rocker as Your Little Secret, and not even raw as her debut, no wonder this was the beggining of the end for Etheridge, whose power cleverness returned in her next album "In This Skin" but by that time radio has given up on her tunes, so sad. But it's all because of this, not a bad album, just the average.
Honest and blunt as always.......2003-07-05
Melissa Etheridge had gone four long years without releasing an album. Being a long-time fan, I was waiting impatiently for "Breakdown". The day it came out, I drove twenty-five miles, the nearest music store from my town, to buy the CD. However, I only had one hour and a half to get back home to watch "That 70's Show". That day, I listened to it. I discovered that "Breakdown's" quality was worth the long adventure.
She pours her heart and soul honestly and bluntly through every track she sings. "Angels Would Fall" stands out the entire CD. "Scarecrow" is a magnificent, heartfelt dedication to the late Matthew Shepard. "Breakdown", the track, expresses how "nuts" she goes sometimes, one of the more honest of the CD.
"Breakdown's" raw emotions prove that one could debate if Etheridge is the next Janis Joplin. Any fan of either of the two brilliant artists will love this CD.
almost as good as debut.......2002-10-01
This CD is almost as good as her 1st CD - which is the best one! Why it took so long for her to become popular is beyond me, this CD returns to those pre-commercial days, however. EXCELLENT
