Props to Hip Hop's first Grammy winner...................2007-04-17
Changed the game forever and further opened the door of hiphop to the mainstream. Made a star of Will Smith and solidified Jazzy Jeff as a respected DJ. Respect Due!
Too d*mn pissed (what am I what am I).......2006-10-14
Would they repackage Led Zeppelin 4 without Stairway to Heaven? This pale imitation of the REAL "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" omits the best track on the album, "Another Special Announcement." Couldn't they have cut off one of Jeff's 10 minute ego-trip megamixes to make room? Sorry, but you can't beat Freddy Krueger saying "I'm too damn hyped" over and over. Also, Nightmare on my Street is edited. Stick with the record or cassette version of this masterpiece.
Rewriting the past...?.......2006-08-11
As someone else noted, the cd edition currently available is missing the original album version of "nitemare on my street", and i personally see no justification, as it can't have been an issue of there not being enough space on the disc - clearly there is room to spare, making it yet more baffling to me that they also left an entire track off! i had the cassette 'back in the day', and, MAYBE it was a cassette-only bonus track at that time, but the first side of the tape ended with a full-crew acapella called 'another special anouncement' which pretty much contained one lyric- "too damn hype"! ("what are we, what are we?" call-and-response, etc) -repeated over and over - now, this was before will smith was an action figure actor-father-clean rap role model, and will smith -GASP!- occasionally cursed!! ....and so, i'll have to dig out that crusty old cassette . . . maybe will is purposely censoring his back catalog? i find this really puzzling . . . i loved "too damn hype", as any 16 year old would!! otherwise, this is a great, classic album, but look for the original cassette or vinyl edition.
My FAVORITE Hip Hop Album of All Time!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-07-08
This album is the definition for true hip hop. Every single track on this record off the hook no doubt. I have listened to this album hundreds of times and it always sounds fresh. Many people haven't give JJFP a listen before (besides summertime or Parents Just Don't Understand) because they think they are soft. Those people don't know what they are missing.
Highlight tracks are Brand New Funk and Hes The DJ, I'm The Rapper. Jazzy Jeff produced some of the best beats ever for this album IMO. If you love old school, this album is for you. Don't sleep on this album.
Excellent second album from JJ+FP.......2006-02-21
This album starts off well with many of the same aspects of JJFP's first album, Rock the House. It still has alot of comedic elements in it and Jeff is very good on the wheels of steel. It is in some ways better than Rock the House because this album allows Jeff to do his mixing of a few tracks without will giving him commands (not that I mind it at all, but it allows Jeff to be a star in the album as well and give him more credit as a DJ). It contains the duo's biggest hit "Parents Just Don't Understand" which has a comedic approach to what occurs when you get in trouble with your parents.
This album is a must-have for anyone who wants to learn about 80s rap music, rap music in general, or want to hear some early will smith.
