I don?t agree with mike but he?s from the east so he probably don?t like this west side style.
Tha album came at tha same time as 2pac was big.
And the style is tha same in this album.
Good lyrics with good base and west beats.
This is GG:s thoughtest album I think, they rap very hard in many track. Demon killa, do or die and gospel gangsta thang is banging.

I thought the cd was a waste of money. Each track is about 1-2 minutes long, which wasn't even worth listening to. The fact that the tracks didn't blend into each other made it even worst. I prefer real music. For realz, this ain't no mix. The feat. artist are well known, but this cd is crap from starting to end. Peace out.

This is a tight mixtape hosted by Kurupt and mixed by DJ Strong, definite Cali flavor with the exception of Mobb Deep and Lloyd Banks, who still put it down, WC'S "Stick 'Em" is tight with catchy flows and a bouncy beat,Too $hort's "rated PG" classic "short but funky", The Game&Eazy E's track is off the chain, Goodie Mob puttin it down with Kurupt, also some new voices that are sure to come up very soon, pick this up.peace.

5 out of 5 stars Another Holy Oldie But Goodie From GG'z.......2005-01-12

Once more, my big homies came thru with another classic on plastic. Vintage 90's Gangsta/G-Funk/West hip hop at it's best(and holiest). This time around there was production from South Central Cartel's Prodeje to go with the airtight production of then producer/GG member DJ Dove...the end result being a West Coast holy hip hop classic for the soul and for the speakers, homies. From the Ghetto Sermon to Anutha Gruuv For Some Preachin', the album is HOTTT! but I'll admit that the only low point this time around was Truth or Funk(100 times noisier than it was funky, production could have been alot tighter). But the lyrics and overall production alone earn Do Or Die a big 5 from Decatur Redd. My all-time fav is West Coast Roc(produced by Prod from SCC).

5 out of 5 stars This Album Is Great As A Whole.......2003-09-09

Every track one this album except 'Why Cain't The Homiez Hear Me' and 'Backslider', is meant to make you boogie, This gives the album a wholeness. I can't compare it to 'Gang Affiliated' or 'I Can See Clearly Now' because those were hardcore albums. Do Or Die is a gangsta boogie album. I wouldn't say that it is better than their latest gangsta boogie album 'The Exodus', that album is indredible, but what makes me freak out about Do Or Die is that although it is old school, I can still compare it to 'The (2003) Exodus' album and it still has that gangsta boogie effect on you. Anything that is old school and can still catch people and make them move, is worth buying. I am rating it 5 stars as an old school album.

5 out of 5 stars Old School TopZ da new.......2003-06-12

This album was released in 1995,8 years later, I still love it.
In my Opinion, this album is better than 1999's "I can see clearly now", or last years "the exodus".This is the 2nd greatest west coast gospel rap album,to T-bone's last street preacha.tracks 2,3,5,6,7,9 are all dope.the only weak song here is "backslider" that lacks style Mr.solo,TIK Tok,and Chille' baby tear it up.

      4 out of 5 stars Bangin!!!!.......2001-11-30

This group really showed up on this album...The lyrics are off the charts. Well written, well preformed, and brought to life through beats that not even mainstream rappers & producers can mess with!!!!! Russel simmons eat your heart out!!!!!!

      5 out of 5 stars Smashin!!!!!.......2001-11-30

I really think with this kind of talent and lyrical, spiritual, gangsta beat these guys are really going to hit the top!! I'd be surprised if Jay-Z himself could hold a candle to this album....With a strait forward aproach and upbeat, powerful, stand up and holla attitude, this cd remains a DEFINATE KEEPER!!! Now I said that!!! Ya don't believe me, try it for your own self!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Prototype teen pop, really nothing else.......2004-07-19

In an age of "boom boom" dance music and overblown, hyperamplified grunge, I was inclined to think that, when I heard Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" - even as I was knowing about what "gangsta" meant in relation to rap - was something a little better.

The fact was/is, that this style of synthesised, semimelodic rap today sounds like the perfect prototype for, yes, the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears. Coolio clearly sounded like he wanted to remove the melodies and the hooks that at least made commcercial music from the eighties easy to listen to (well, I listened to nothing but for the best part of two decades) and replace it with a synthesised, airy, flyweight sound that would serve perfectly as background music on your commercial station. The song is not memorable like hit singles of the 1980s were, and the singer can never tell whether he wants to talk or actually to sing.

This was perhaps the first song to be a hit AS background music on the radio, rather than from simple, catchy lyrics and vocals that had made hit singles before. As it stands today, this soundtrack rap album is almost a protype for the Backstreet Boys, who sound quite similar to Coolio, actually, even if they never rapped.

If you like the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync (no need for rudeness) you'll love this for the meandering melodies and total absence of memorable rhythms. if you want more substance, stay right away. Coolio copies Stevie Wonder's "Pasttime Paradise" on this one: going back to the source would be most welcome.

3 out of 5 stars could be better.......2004-04-26

this CD isn't bad but it could be better. It needs more songs and it needs better songs. The only song I really liked was gangstas paradise. I really don't know why they made an edited vesion. Coolio doesn't curse much. Oh well... Buy the unedited version!!!!(or Tupac, 50 cent, Eminem, or Chingy).

4 out of 5 stars Good rap cd.......2001-09-25

Now, I'm not a big Coolio fan. But I've just always liked the song "Gangsta's Paradise". Even though that's the initial reason I bought the album, there are many more good songs on it. I like the song "Ghetto Highlights" almost as much as the title track. "Sumpin New(1,2,3,4)" is a pretty catchy tune I used to hear at roller skate places a lot. Those are my 3 favorite songs, but I also like the songs "Kinda High, Kinda Drunk" and "Exercise Yo' Game". The only reason I took off a star is because since this is an edited album, there are a couple of songs that could be good that are edited so much, it takes away from the songs.

      3 out of 5 stars Gangstas Paradise.......2000-07-05

"gangstas Paradise" is pretty good for being edited. The only songs that were worth listening to are "gangstas paradise","Exercise Yo Game",and"Kinda high Kinda drunk".I suggest that you pick up the Explicit version.

Next to the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (D.R.S.) this was the most unusual R&B quartet to come out of Los Angeles in the '90s. Just Another Day was the most amazingly unorthodox release of 1990's; combined 1970s-influenced soul singing with the imagery and themes of gangsta rap. G.A.T. (Gangstas and Thugs) wasn't even close to being the first R&B act to be heavily influenced by hip-hop, but not very many other acts embraced the type of thug-life lyrics associated with N.W.A., the Geto Boys, Ice-T, and Tupac. Most reviewer's said "its like N.W.A. meets the Chi-Lites or Ice-T meets the Dramatics" they were that unorthodox. Sporting westcoast styled gangsta attire, singers Wesley Johnson III, Kenneth Blue, Tyrone Butterfield, and Andrew Sanders gave gritty, troubling, first-person accounts of such things as gang warfare and serving hard time in prison. The group also sang on Coolio's "Moma I'm in Love Wit a Gangster" in 1994. G.A.T. shows they can handle downright heavy 1970s soul, and it shows on their interpretation of the Persuaders' "Thin Line Between Love and Hate." Regrettably, the album didn't sell, and after being dropped by MCA, G.A.T. didn't resurface on another label. G.A.T. clearly has a vision and style of their own.
