    Album Description

After his foray into old school country with 2004's "Cut 'N Shoot", legendary singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer Morlix explores a darker, more rock-oriented vibe with this record. Recorded after a year in which he lost several people close to him, the theme of death and dying surfaces on several tracks. His trademark dark humor, however, tempers the sadness and makes "Diamonds And Dust" a unique listening experience. In addition to his originals, Morlix includes a cover of Dylan's "With God On Our Side", a song as timely today as it was when it was written 44 years ago. This is another unique and brilliant chapter in Morlix's uniquely brilliant career.

5 out of 5 stars opening titles music?.......2006-02-08

    Hi.

Does anyone know what is the music from the opening titles of the movie? It is before the song Omiya starts. It is not included in the CD and i'd like to know the title.

5 out of 5 stars Great Indian Mystery, well-done.......2005-07-16

This is a very nice album for esoteric enthusiasts to add to their Indian mix.

    5 out of 5 stars I love Indian Music.......2005-07-05

I love the movie Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love. Indira Varhma and Sarita Chowdery are very, very beautiful women. And the music in the movie was hott! Especially the song at Princess Tara's wedding where everyone is dancing and Maya is serving the guests in her beautiful red sari. It had a cool beat and I felt like dancing, Indian style!

5 out of 5 stars Kama Sutra = Beautiful Movie, Beautiful Music.......2005-06-27

Love the movie...cinematography is wonderful, a truely beautiful movie, everything is a feast for the eyes. The soundtrack is just as good, perfect blend of exotic music that can be enjoyed lounging around or even bellydanced to.

    5 out of 5 stars Captivating!!!!.......2003-09-05

The songs are sensual, calming, meditative and spiritual. If you appreciate different cultures, this album is for you. Whenever i play this album i turn all the lights out, and light candles, burn incense and meditate. I highly recommend this album with monsoon wedding soundtrack. Everyone i know loves this album. Get it.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2005-11-18

I know that WOW is kind of a small word but this CD ROCKS! I have loved queen for years. I originally bought this CD for my 10 year old son who took up the violin this year and who loves queen as much as I do but it quickly became mine. I've heard some pretty bad imitations, remakes, and ripoffs. I can honestly say that this CD is none of the above. You get 10 of Queens best. 1) Killer Queen, 2) Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) We Are The Champions, 4) We WIll Rock You, which happens to be my favorite on this disk, 5)Fat Bottomed Girls, 6)Crazy Little Thing Called Love, 7) Somebody To Love, 8) Play The Game, 9) You're My Bext Friend, 10) Another One Bites The Dust. The only downside to this disk is that they left out about a hundred other songs. I sincerely hope that The String Quartet comes out with a volume 2, but why stop there. They could go on forever with just Queen Classics.
Do yourself a favor. If you like Queen and Classical Music BUY THIS CD. You won't be sorry.

    5 out of 5 stars YES!!!!.......2005-06-05

    Two words: Bohemian Rahpsody.

THey could have released a CD with only this song and I would have bought/borrowed/stolen it to get it. This song is definitely a highlight, but don't stop there, since the rest of the CD will make you want to play it over and over again.

If you've been thinking about buying a String Quartet Tribute, but don't know which to buy, I would buy this one, without a doubt.

While the sales of Sarah Brightman's ambitious, Middle Eastern-themed 2003 album Harem may have fallen short of its predecessor, the veteran UK chanteuse's popularity as a live performer has only mushroomed. This live recording of her ambitious, sold-out Harem World Tour engagement at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Arena is testament to that appeal, begging the question: Will Brightman become the Grateful Dead of classical crossover? Indeed, abetted by the rich sonic textures of longtime producer/collaborator Frank Peterson, the worldbeat conceits of her recent studio recordings are folded into a larger, even more expansive live vision here. Brightman's overt dramatic instincts and oft-chaemeleonic vocal abilities drive a slate of material that stretches from the Arabian Nights/Madame Butterflypastiche of Harem's seductive "It's A Beautiful Day" through surprisingly effective classical/rock reinventions of Kansas' "Dust in the Wind" and The Moody Blues' chestnut "Nights in White Satin" to expected classical bowings "Nessun Dorma" and the obligatory nod to "Phantom of the Opera" Amazon.com

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING! She is so much better live!.......2006-12-02

This CD rocks! This is Sarah Brightman on her Harem World Tour, and this performance was recorded at her stop in Las Vegas. The first two tracks, "Kama Surta" and "Harem Overture" debut from her newest album, entitled HAREM. The two tracks are connected, but in the actual Harem Tour, the full piece "Harem" is sung. If you go to www.youtube.com and type in "Harem Tour" in the Search Bar, you can see live videos. I would prefer that the album has placed "Harem" instead of these other two tracks. The third track, "It's A Beautiful Day", is from Madame Butterfly, written by Puccini. This version is Brightman's twist, which some more pop and some English. It's pretty cool. The fourth track on the album, "Dust in the Wind" is from EDEN, an amazing album. Track 5 is, "Who Wants to Live Forever", and it seems as though Brightman never creates a tour without putting this piece in it. It's a beautiful tribute to Queen's rendition. Track Six is "Anytime, Anywhere", also from EDEN. I'm not really into the Foreign Language - English songs, but this works very well, especially because she ends the song with the classical foreign language. The seventh track is Brightman's rendition of Dvorak's "Song to the Moon", or "La Luna". The track is beautiful! The eighth track is Puccini's "Nessun Dorma", and Sarah masters this beautifully! There is no other soprano I know that can sing this piece one octave up and can hold the ending note for ever!!! Track 9 is "The War is Over", which is followed by "Free", both from HAREM. Track 11 is "A Whiter Shade of Pale", from LA LUNA. It's beautiful to listen to. Sarah's version is very gentle, but has a lot of energy in the chorus. The twelfth track on this album is "Twisted Every Way", followed by an instrumental version of "The Phantom of the Opera" Theme. The next track is "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", which is extended at the end, in which you hear some men cry out "WE LOVE YOU SARAH!", and she responds cutely with an, "I love you, too." The audience laughs! Track 14 is "Time to Say Goodbye", the duet that made Andrea Bocelli famous, and skyrocketed as the number one single sold in German history! The last live track on the album is "A Question of Honour", from "Fly", which is awesome! The last track on the album is a bonus track, which I don't really prefer. However, the whole album is simply amazing. I much prefer Sarah when she is live. She has a more magical quality! If you love Sarah Brightman, then you will love this album.

ALSO RECOMMENDED : Since there is so much Sarah Brightman to choose from, I also recommend EDEN, TIME TO SAY GOODBYE, LA LUNA, CLASSICS, and DIVA.

    What an album, absolutly beautiful!
We, the fans of this great artist finelly have in our hands a live album, and it's amazing:
-The voice is totaly live, she sang about 24 complete songs in the show, but the album only contains 15.
-Snow In The Sahara is a lovely song.

If you have the chase of get this alubum, don't doubt and get it; It wond disapoint you!

    5 out of 5 stars astounding performance.......2005-06-07

an impeccable concert experience that successfully elevates the album to majestic heights. I had long been a fan of Dead Can Dance and the unparalleled work of Lisa Gerrard. When Sarah Brightman ventured into these Middle Eastern sounds on the Harem disc, I thought it was too derivative of the Dead Can Dance sounds (there is even a sample used on one of SB's songs that had previously been used within DCD).

However, experiencing this epic and intensely mystical concert compelled me to realize the individual and unique glory of Sarah Brightman. Also, this concert is so phenomenally entertaining at many levels that I couldn't help but fall absolutely in love with the special magic of Sarah Brightman. Obviously, the expansive Middle Eastern milieu can accommodate more than one angelic vocalist!

I now consider Lisa Gerrard and Sarah Brightman to be geniuses who both warrant goddess status in the pantheon of lyrical greats. To see either one of them perform live is surely one of the most powerful and memorable sensory experiences one could ever have!

4 out of 5 stars Great, of course.......2005-03-18

Sarah's voice and style are terrific, as usual. However, I have to say that her version of Anggun's "Snow on the Sahara" is fairly bland, especially compared to the original Anggun version. Sarah has the chops but lacks soul on this great song. Everything els here is very nice.

Though the gravel and dirt in his voice have earned this Iowa artist comparisons with Tom Waits, those with longer memories might recognize Captain Beefheart as a closer soundalike. With his stripped-down instrumentation of banjo and guitar--occasionally augmented by a bare-bones band--William Elliott Whitmore taps into the most primal themes of inescapable death and unforgivable sin. Amid the funereal blues of "Diggin' My Grave" and "The Buzzards Won't Cry" and the dying farmer's request on the closing "Porchlight" (punctuated with a tubercular-sounding cough as a coda), the comparatively tender "When Push Comes to Love" brings melodic relief and the classic country waltz "Sorest of Eyes" has a hint of a lilt. Otherwise, the artistry is as bleak as the Samuel Beckett epigram on the liner, as the music takes a cold, hard look at mortality and evokes the slimmest hope of redemption. --Don McLeese

I just saw William Elliot Whitmore Live the other day near Chicago and I have to say he sounds exactly like his CD, but it is more amazing to see him live, he commands the audience and no one can speak a work once he opens his mouth. If you do not own any of his work then i suggest that you go and buy the best new artist around! ....and if I could give more than 5 stars I would

5 out of 5 stars never heard of him before yesterday.......2005-07-09

Until last night, I have never heard of William Elliott Whitmore. I heard this cd playing at a local coffee shop, and had to ask the proprietor who this was. My husband and I both loved his sound, so bluesy, with lots of guitar. We now have the cd Hymns for the Hopeless, we really like it, but it seems a little darker than this cd. Can't wait to own it!

4 out of 5 stars Impressive sophomore effort.......2005-06-10

This is powerful stuff. Whitmore has the idiosyncratic voice of an unholy fusion of Tom Waits, John Prine and Townes van Zandt. What the hell, a little of Larry McMurtry thrown in, too. His instrumental sense is reminiscent of the Harry Smith Anthology, that is sparse and unadorned. He is singing the blues but not what one would expect from a rural Iowan who is not yet thirty years old. My wife was very surprised when I told her that and she feels he is likely a reincarnated "old soul." This album is not for everybody but my wife, who despises Tom Waits and generally doesn't care for the blues, was favorably impressed as I obviously am.

5 out of 5 stars redirection makes perfect.......2005-05-01

I can certainly hear the Tom Waits references, but there's no Beat Generation at work here at all. Captain Beefheart is a better click, especially thinking about CB's almost-mainstream "Clear Spot" album. WEW has a much less rangy voice than the Captain's 4 1/2 octaves, and his lyrical concerns are much less arty/underground, though burials do figure prominently...

What I liked best about this album was its fondness for the subject matter of working folks, but not in a studied, academic or ironic sense. While I like the Be Good Tanyas, for instance, they often irritate me, in part because I hear so much Holy Modal Rounders in their arrangements and even vocals. Both of these groups approach their work with an irreverence that often gets in the way of the song itself (of course, the Rounders were designed to be stoner "acid folk", which is an excuse if you actually lived through that errrrrra).

"Ashes to Dust" presents a decidedly mature take on old things. WEW is not a songster who takes on personas (Dylan, Springsteen), because there is always the sense that he is the guy in the song. Pretty hard to pull off and he does it on every cut this album. The arrangements are simple and contemporary, with his playing being noticeably improved over "Hymns." I love "Sorest Eye," "Hub Cale" and "Heart in Your Hand" in particular, with the latter's lines "You're a rainstorm, a fire and a trainwreck/All wrapped up in ribbons and lace" being up for an alltime-country writing award--both my male and female friends like the whole idea of that line, for the same reasons. This is really one hell of an album, and the growth Whitmore has shown makes me anxious to see what he does next. Duet with Gillian Welch? Mercy.

    5 out of 5 stars A truly splendid collection.......2007-01-04

This is one of the most wide-ranging and wonderful collections of early roots music I've found. The performances range from gospel quartets and choirs through blues and jug bands, pulling together influences from gospel, bluegrass and country, jazz, and blues. And then there's an entire disc of sermons, with such gems (no pun intended) as "Black Diamond Express to Hell". Great stuff, and a wonderfully eclectic collection of early roots music, gospel or not.

The sound quality is very good, especially given the age of many of the sources.

There's not a ton of historical/biographical info in the 200+ page book, but the inclusion of all the lyrics of every song is a huge win. The packaging is as cool as it looks, but isn't terribly practical for day-to-day use. That wasn't a problem for me, as I ripped all six CDs and have primarily played them off my computers, but could be a nuisance for some.

    5 out of 5 stars This Is A Must-Have.......2006-05-13

This set includes 5 music CD's plus 1 preaching CD. All six are good ones and each individual CD is put together according to a single theme; salvation, judgement, etc. I listen to this over and over again and I never tire of it. Maybe this is a bit pricy, but still it's worth every cent.

    5 out of 5 stars A piece of America.......2005-12-10

I have had this set for over a year and I still have not listened to it all. 135 songs of such diverse and interesting variety and styles. The music is so raw in most cases that it speaks to the gut first, then the heart.
Dust to Digital is the best outfit in the world for locating and assembling such massive historical recordings. This is the most pleasureable set of gospel (if you can limit it to that genre) music, ever. Thank you DtoD.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Tribute to a Great Artist.......2004-09-15

The songs on this tribute to Merle Haggard show better than some of his own inconsistent work just what a huge, multi-faceted talent Haggard has been for decades. For those who might still only recall him as a tunnel-visioned patriot (neither Okie from Musgokee or The Fighting Side of Me are here, fortunately), Tulare Dust sets the record straight -- Haggard is the champion of each human's daily struggle (the title cut and A Working Man), the romantic of rough open road (White Line Fever, Ramblin Fever), and the chronicler of tragic romance (Kern River). Most surprisingly, perhaps, considering his origins and audience, he writes of love across the color line (Irma Jackson). Picking the best of this outstanding collection is tough, but try Iris Dement's amazing take on Big City, Dwight Yoakam's weepy Holding Things Together, Billy Joe Shaver and Ramblin Fever, but most especially Dave Alvin and Kern River. In just about the only disappointment, while almost all the other singer-songwriters deliver inspired covers of these songs, Marshall Crenshaw's version of the classic Silver Wings is bland and rote.

    A must have CD.

5 out of 5 stars This tribute saved Merle's career.......2003-12-03

The story goes that ol' Merle was ready to pack it in at the time this disc was made. What happened? He heard some young angel named Iris Dement sing a version of his tune "Big City" and he melted. Merle said that after hearing Iris, he felt there was hope for country music after all! A nice story, but the truth is, this disc is one of the best tribute albums you're likely to hear anywhere. While Iris does shine, the stand-out track is Tom Russell doing "Tulare dust/They're tearin' the labor camps down." Fantastic. The rest of the disc is interesting. Some of it quite different than Merle's version, but good nevertheless. A good buy.

3 out of 5 stars The music can't be touched.......2002-01-16

This is very good CD. The only problem is that Merle's music is so good, it's tough to cover. I listen to the CD fairly often and especially enjoy this version of Big City. Buy it, but understand, if you want to hear the best, buy Merle's originals!

4 out of 5 stars Iris Dement worth the price of admission.......1999-04-01

Buy this CD if for no other reason than to hear Iris Dement singing 'Big City'. It's the best thing she's ever done, IMHO. If Angels ever come down and complain about their dead end jobs, it'll sound just like this. Only maybe not quite so sweet. Who knew old Merle could write something that could sound like an angel fixin' to turn in her timecard? It just goes to show, "the Hag" can do it all. Good tribute album to the body of work contributed by a genuine 'force of nature' in American music.

    Product Description

Featuring 17 classic Oingo Boingo songs, performed by an amazing selection of up-and-coming stars, Drink to Bones That Turn to Dust is already receiving amazing accolades from Oingo Boingo fans, and even from Danny Elfman himself! This release marks the first from Seattle's newest music-producing endeavor, Dep't of Records.

    Customer Reviews:

    4 out of 5 stars A pleasant surprise.......2007-02-13

I can hardly top the endorsement from Elfman himself, but I can vouch for the originality of the approach. These songs span a variety of genres, though they mostly take the originals in a more jazzy direction. The exception is "Nothing Bad Ever Happens," which ends up punkier than it ever was. The key to any good tribute song is being faithful to the spirit without slavishly copying the original. On this album, only "Little Guns" comes close to being a sound-alike -- and since it's a fun song anyway, that's fine. This is why the other Oingo Boingo tribute album, "Dead Band's Party," was mostly a disappointment, since too many songs were note-for-note recreations. Not the case here. This would be a listenable compilation even if it wasn't a tribute album.

If you're into classical music and Fleetwood Mac then this album is for you! It's actually quite nice! I think this string quartet did a very nice job remaking Fleetwood Mac's masterpieces! It's quite interesting to listen to, especially if you're a big Fleetwood Mac fan! I would most definately recommend this album for big Fleetwood Mac and classical music fans!

5 out of 5 stars JALOUSIE/ STAR DUST- Arthur Fiedler & The Boston Pops.......2007-02-22

If you're a classical music lover, you can't go wrong with this great combination of two nostalgic gems, originally recorded on Lp format by Arthur Fiedler, conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra.
"Jalousie" was definitely one of Fiedler's finest works. The album theme "Jalousie" or "Jealousie" based on a tango composed by Gade, is a work of art. I first heard Fiedler's version of this great music master piece watching the old "B.F.Goodrich" musical program on television back during the early 60's and I immediately realized Fiedler's Boston Pops version of this great classic was absolutely the very best I have ever heard. This great album is complemented by other gorgeous classics, like "Il Guarany", "Jamaican Rhumba" "Danze Piemontese" and others. The second album included on this CD "Stardust" is another recorded milestone by Fiedler, "Stardust", "Clair de Lune" and other beautiful classics will simply delight you. Maestro Arthur Fiedler will always be remembered by music fans as Mr.Boston Pops. Fortunately a portion of his musical works with the Pops have been re-issued for us to enjoy and reminisce. I very highly recommend it. Do not miss this one.
