Customer Reviews:
3rd bass.......2007-02-07
these guys gotta be the most underrated rap group ever, overshadowed by lesser white rap acts, these guys spit mad lyrics, had daddy rich pumping the killer beats, check it out
In my eyes...just short of classic status........2006-11-15
Prince Paul blesses a bunch of tracks with his ill beats. MC Serch & Pete Nice both come correct on all the songs. Its just a dope listen through and through. 4.5 stars!!!
The end of an era.......2005-10-15
I remember listening to this in elementary school and I still pull it out every now and then to remember what it was like when radio rap actually meant something. This album is starting to show its age and that is the reason for the four star rating but it still has some timeless classics on it that I will always listen to. Third bass will be remembered as one of the most influentual Hiphop groups of the 90s forget about Vanilla Ice and his two minutes of fame these cats had some true talent and have influenced countless B-boys and B-girls of this generation. Prince Paul produced several of the tracks on this disc and it is pretty much a skip free listen all the way through. Lyricly these guys were great and added a sense of humor into their music with their word play and use of skits. If you are looking for some old school Hiphop with some substance and some true talent and want to find that place in time when true MCs really shined this may just be your album
Classic Rap, five stars when it came out in 91.......2005-08-01
Third Bass was at the top of the world back in 91. They transcended race and they came off as legit rappers. But for some reason, they didn't stay together and they only made two albums, this one and the cactus album from the year before. I know it's not popular to say this, but I liked Pop Goes the Weasel. I think they were just messin' with the Vanilla Man.
Don't like it for Pop Goes The Weasel.......2004-11-14
I think that 3rd Bass really came off their lamest on this album. Most of the album has uninspired beats, and they're so obsessed with attacking the more commercial rap artists. The worst offense is the lame Pop Goes The Weasel, where they attack Vanilla Ice and his To The Extreme's multiplatinum success. What's even contradicting is that the group's rapping over a pop song in Peter Gabriel's Sledgehammer. The music sounds like some broken food mixer when the parts can't spin and the screws are fallin apart in the mixing bowl. The rest of the album is nowhere as exciting as that solid 1989 debut. The New York producers on that album come up with such pointless stuff, MC Serch comes off as arrogant, while Pete Nice sounds disconnected with his partner on the songs.
