On my review of their first album I said all I needed to say about this group so if you want more information see my previous review.
I will state that this album is in my opinion better than their first, everything I said about their first album still applys here, but this album gives the brothers (Sick Jacken and Duke) more of an opportunity to shine since B real the third member is only featured on one song.
The brothers flex their lyrical muscle with ease here and much credit must be given for their writing which truly is a piece of genius, again their are no filler tracks although a couple of them are a bit to short and end before they should but they still bang with the best of them.
The beats maintain the high quality and in some cases surpass their previous work which just shows you their talent since they produced it themselves.

Another standout album by one of the most slept on groups in hip hop, do your self a favour and pick this up.

A Masterpiece.......2005-05-14

This album is not only a great hip-hop album, it is a great piece of music. From the beginning to the end the album flows as one story. Jacken and Duke cast their nets far in trying to capture not only the problems and situations of L.A. life (in particular the Pico Union District) but they also make parallels with world problems. Terrorism, government conspiracay, technological growth, cultural displacement and climate change are some things they allude to. It is a rich album that is complex in its approach to it subject and also with the music. The beats are the colorful and confusing backdrop to the album. It is just too good.

the best album ever?.......2003-02-04

A War Story is just about my favourite cd and is criminally underrated. This should be seen as a classic rap album and should be owned by everyone who wants some thoughtful intelligent hip hop, not just some s**t about money, guns, cars and girls. The lyrics and delvery are original and stylish giving a different angle on life and the problems in their neighbourhood (LA). Now to the production which is in my opinion the best ever! Every track has obviously had alot of work put into it without sounding overdone and evey track is individual and simply great music - moving through streets must be one of the best and most original hip hop tracks ever created. I also think this album is better without B-Real all over it like on the first album and gives Duke and Jacken more time to shine.

THEY ARE UP THERE WITH THE BEST OF ALL TIME, DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS GROUP.......2005-10-08

The Psycho Realm are made up of two brothers, Sick Jacken and Duke and the third part time member is B Real from the group Cypress Hill. B Real discovered the group when they were unsigned and was so impressed by them that not only did he want to help them get signed but he wanted to be part of their group.

First of all I want to get a few things clear because after reading a few of the reviews on amazon it is quite obvious that most people are not aware of what Psycho Realm are about and are posting statements about them which are completly untrue, for starters:
1. PSYCHO REALM ARE NOT A SPIN OFF OF CYPRESS HILL, THEY ARE TWO BROTHERS WITH SUPERIOR TALENT AND B REAL WANTED TO BE PART OF THEM BECAUSE THEY CARRIED THAT HUNGER AND SOCIAL AWARENESS WHICH I BELIEVE HE THOUGHT THAT CYPRESS HILL DID NOT HAVE ANYMORE OR NECESSARILY CONCENTRATED ON.

2.DJ MUGGS DID NOT AND I REPEAT, DID NOT PRODUCE ANY OF THE TRACKS ON THIS ALBUM, ONLY ON ONE SONG WAS IT PRODUCED BY A MEMBER OF SOUL ASSASSINS WHICH MUGGS IS A PART OFF, BUT HE WAS NOT INVOLVED.
THE BEATS WERE PRODUCED BY SICK JACKEN HIMSELF AND SOME WERE CO PRODUCED BY B REAL.

This album carrys the sort of lyrics which are hard to hear from rappers these day's, It cannot be stressed how much this group is underated, they describe the dangers of the streets of LA in particular their district of Pico Union in such a vibrant and detailed way that upon listening to them you can almost picture the social depravation which plagues their streets. I am not going to start telling you about individual songs on here because the truth is that every song on this album is relevant, there are no fillers here.

The beats are some of the best I have ever heard and that is not an overstatement, not only that but they are also quite original and it seems that the beat selection was made just for them, they are quite dark and rugged but never do they suffer from same beat syndrome and they are all serious headnodders.

This group deserves more attention than they get and I urge people to check them out, I am not claiming that they are the best ever but they are a testament to what true hip hop stand's for and can claim with their head held high that they represent the westcoast.

Their other two albums A War Story and War Story Book 2 which came after this are also as good if not better than this one so if you can get a hold of them also, I strongly recommend it.

DON'T SLEEP ON THIS GROUP, IF YOU ARE INTO SERIOUS GOOD HIP HOP AND NOT HIP POP THEN GET THIS OTHERWISE YOU ARE MISSING OUT.

Underrated Masterpiece.......2005-01-17

This group is very underrated and unheard of. They deserved better, as this album shows how talented they are. With Muggs on production, you can't go wrong there, then you got Duke, Jacken and B-Real, who never fail. All the tracks are strong, no weak songs, and the production is top-notch with brilliant lyrics and rapping. I would call it a masterpiece. Best tracks are Psycho City Blocks, La Connecta Pt 1 & 2, Showdown, and Psyclones. The reviewer that said Psycho Realm "sounds like a cross between Cypress Hill and the Gravediggaz" obviously hasn't heard this album, because that is completely not true, that is total disrecpect to say that.

Muggs... this is like a soundtrack to a classic movie. the beats are deep dark and could stand on their own, as an instrumental. together with B-Real, Duke, & Jacken, this album is one of hip-hops un-harvested gems. this album is unbelievable. it's too bad that some good music never eceives the credit it is due. if you buy any hip hop album , this is it. if yoru dissappointed by this album, then you really don't know what good music is, and you should give this album to someone who can appreciate it for the masterpiece it is.

One of the best underground Hip hop album ever made !! With the first one !!

Not as good as the first two..........2006-06-10

...but still better than most stuff out there (at least the first half). If you've never heard Psycho Realm before, buy War Book I.

The first half of the album is classic Psycho Realm (although not at their best). The second half makes you witness Jacken revert from lyrical genious to common rapper talking about the same themes lesser rappers spit about, namely...drugs & women (and to give it the killing blow...Duke is not on the second half, tragically.)

Great Whites Best.......1999-09-21

It is beyond belief that a CD this good is out of print. Amazon carries every other CD by Great White including their first (Self titled)CD but not Psycho City. If you don't remember the CD...... Tracks include: Old Rose Motel, Maybe Someday, Big Goodbye, Doctor Me, Love is a Lie, Get on the Road, Step on you, and more. I wish Amazon would wake up and get some copies in to their customers.

PSYCHO REALM ARE HIP HOP PURE AND SIMPLE.......2005-11-08

Where do I begin with this review, for me trying to get a hold of this album was a process that I thought would never reach it's conclusion. I have travelled to the states (well just florida)looking for a copy only to be met with disapointment, forget here in england I was lucky to even know about Psycho Realm let alone have access to their material. It took three attempts to order it throught the internet before I finally struck gold, and now I have it and well...lets just say if you like well thought out and intelligent lyrics fused with some of the best production to ever grace an album in hip hop you need to come over to the sick side.

Sick Jacken and his brother Duke return with part 2 of the war story and it is a perfect successor to the excellent part 1, unfortunatly during the making of this album Duke was shot through the neck leaving him paralysed from the neck down meaning he was unable to complete the rest of it leaving Jacken to go at it alone, but luckily Jacken is more than capable of holding it down not to mention the album features the Street Platoon Cynic and Crow to help with the proceedings.
The album is split into two parts, the first (the war years part 2) is a straight up continuation from where the previous album had left off and it features Duke all the way through while the second half (post war era:the reconstruction)only features Duke on the first three tracks while Jacken goes on solo or is helped by the street platoon. The production also switches a little bit on the second half especially towards the end giving the impression that after the war years they wanted to liven it up a bit showing the good side of Pico Union (the place where their from) and in my opinion it is a bit hit and miss, the majority is fantastic but the last two tracks are in my opinion weak giving the album a bit of a sour taste after so much sweetness but this by no means diminishes the acomplishments of Sick Jacken and Duke, together they have created some of the best material to ever come from hip hop with their three albums (the psycho realm/war story/war story 2)it is a shame that they have been mostly overlooked even being dropped by their label with their first album (Columbia)leaving them to go the independent route.

I cannot stress how much people need to check Psycho Realm, be sure to get all their albums you won't be disapointed and Duke if you read this my prayers go out to you.

the psycho realm is, in my mind, one (if not the) best HH band in USA. nowhere else will you find such intense, intelligent and underground lyrics, such precise and exact critiks about all this mess (but don't expect to hear B-real on this one, M freeze, which i'm so found about, was takin' numbers at the moment), and such original, dark, deep and hyptnotic beats. I heard about duke gonzalez's tragedy, then the only thing I hope is that sick symphonies and war stories from pico union could still be there for us folks...

This album is outstanding from the first song to the last am glad that there is chicano rappers bringing up the game am a soldier an i have been in iraq i was also raises in Aztlan (Los Angeles) so I know alot about what they taking about this a great cd for those of you who don't listed to that commersialzed
rap like ja-z chingy and speciallly 50 cent and emmenem or tired of hearing about he bling bling b.s. then this cd is for you.
