About the Artist
De' Ice

Autobiography Full of lurics, given to expressing one self from the mind Samuel Hines A.K.A. De' Ice was born in Tampa, Florida on March 14, 1975. De'Ice is a graduate of Hillsborough Senior High School, and is a member of First Union Baptice Church. By the age of four he had developed an interest for music, and at the age of eleven he was playing drums for his church, with in two years De'Ice was traveling with a gospel group performing at many diffrent churches, and events through out the state of Florida. After the death of his father in 1986 he decided to start a career in the rap game and went on to become a national recording artist. In the ninth grade he started rapping in various talent shows, and local night clubs on teen night. Other than rapping, dancing, and playing the drums he also enjoys baseball, football, and basketball. De'Ice thanks God for giving him the talent to realize that he can not do anything with out the help of God, and his dear fans. When you listen to De'Ice debut album "Smoke One", and hear the sexy, sultry, soulful riffs from Man in the MIRROR you will knw immediately that this brother is here to take the music industry by storm. With his distinctly unquestionable deep south rap style. This is not a group that plans to make one hit record, and exit gracefully. De'Ice is here for the term ride. De'Ice has the right combination of smoothness, unity, and drive with a soulful substance for good taste.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

      This series of eleven church anthems is a sterling example of doing more with less. Though their format is multiple movements for soloists and chorus and inviting of grand treatment, Handel had available only a couple of oboes and a small string band and choir (with no violas or altos for nos. 1-6). Yet each one of these anthems is a gem. Handel's music captures well the changing moods of the Psalm texts--from somber penitence to serene bliss to infectious joy to the raging of storms and seas. Though Bowman's arias lie uncomfortably low for him, he and George do fine work; Lynne Dawson, Patrizia Kwella, and Ian Partridge are delightful. Harry Christophers leads his choir and orchestra in subtly inflected and beautifully paced performances. --Matthew Westphal

      Harry Christophers and the Sixteen Choir and Orchestra seem to have been much more at home with Handel’s English Chandos Anthems than they were with Bach’s St. John Passion, which they also recorded in the spring of 1989. This fourth CD containing Anthems No. 10 and 11 is quite brilliantly done: Handel was at his greatest, using the slightly increased forces at the future Duke of Chandos’ chapel to the best of effects. Psalm texts such as: “The earth trembled and quak’d, the very foundation of the hills shook, and were removed […]. They are brought down and fall’n, but we are risen” brought out the maximum in imitative orchestral writing and choral splendour, and the closing fugue of “Let God Arise” could, despite the limited forces available, almost be mistaken for one of the “purple patches” from “Messiah”.
      Anthem No. 10 (“The Lord is My Light and My Salvation”) is written for five part choir with three tenor solo airs and one short but very effective soprano air, masterfully performed by Lynne Dawson. Anthem No. 11 (“Let God Arise”) is mainly choral, with the two soloists having only one short air each. Ian Partridge is perhaps not quite as convincing as Lynne Dawson but does all that is required of him; the orchestra (this time with four each of first and second violins plus three cellos and a double bass in the strings, then two recorders, an oboe and a bassoon as woodwind and organ continuo) sounds decidedly mature in comparison with, say, the first volume and provides some highly entertaining moments.

      The only slightly sour point about this particular CD is the playing time of merely 49 minutes, but if you are collecting Handel’s sacred works, that should in no wise deter you from buying and listening to this superb music.

              Perhaps I should start by admitting a bias: Many years ago, lying on Boston's grassy Esplanade by the Charles River on warm summer nights, I learned what a symphony orchestra should sound like, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. Those concerts were free; these seven compact discs are not--not quite. But for any lover of light classical music, they are certainly one of the best buys available. The orchestra (essentially the Boston Symphony) is one of the world's greatest; the music, from Smoke Gets in Your Eyes to the Goyescas Intermezzo and Ride of the Valkyries is instantly enjoyable and permanently valuable; the conductor is at the same time genial and exacting, convinced that any music you play, no matter how frivolous, deserves the best you can give it. --Joe McLellan

              Now, if you are a music-lover, and you like The Boston Pops & Arthur Fiedler. You should get it as soon as posible.

              Definitly one of my favorite classical CD's....has a bit of everything, and it's all extremely well played and recognizable. I never go on car trips without it with me. If you buy only one classic CD (set), THIS IS IT!
