Kelly Clarkson, kindly step aside: the title "Because of You" now belongs to Ne-Yo, who has done things with it no one with a pair of hands to clap will soon forget. And not just on the phenomenally appealing first single. Throughout Because of You, the sophomore disc by the songwriter responsible for such monster hits as Beyoncé's "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna's "Unfaithful," a flutter-voiced fluidity--the kind seldom heard since Michael Jackson's Off the Wall days--reigns. Jay-Z makes room to let it rip on "Crazy," and Jennifer Hudson wraps herself around it with restraint on "Leaving Tonight," a lovers' quarrel that could hold its own against anything Marilyn McCoo & Billy David Jr. cared to toss off in their heyday. If it's MJ who's lingered in Ne-Yo's ear longest, Prince hasn't gone silent, either: echoes poke up on the far-out "Sex with My Ex." Elsewhere, shades of contemporaries such as Nelly and Diddy show through. Overall, though, Ne-Yo's flammable hooks, flirty vibe, and flawless vocals reveal an R&B genius in the making. If the talent bar for up-and-comers is set impossibly high in the coming years, chances are it will be all because of him. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Quite Impressive!.......2007-07-12

I'm just saying you should check out what other reviews have been written from a reviewer before you let it pursued you for or against a release because it may influence how much credit you give their review.
This sophomore release by Neo shows maturity, growth and solidifies his presence in the R & B genre. Because of You, Crazy minus J-Z intro., Do You, Leaving Tonight, Aint Thinking About You, Make it Work, Tell Me, are most noteable. Which is quite a number of tracks, practically the whole CD. Each track flows into the next, you can really just press play and relax, let the music work it's magic.

Simply put, this is a great CD! My favorite songs are:
2. Crazy f/ Jay-Z
4. Do You
6. Leaving Tonight
11. Say It

I recommend this CD to listeners who prefer a CD that isn't filled with featured rappers!

5 out of 5 stars "say it".......2007-07-10

if "say it" were the ONLY song on the album, i still would've gotten my money's worth. i also love "do you", "because of you", and "can we chill". all in all i like about the same amount of songs on this album as i did on the other one.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sophomore Album!.......2007-07-07

I am always wary of sophomore efforts from singers, but I really loved Ne-Yo's first CD, and I love the fact that he's a songwriter -- his songs usually make sense -- so I went ahead and picked it up even though I had only heard snippets of "Because of You" (the title track) and no other song. I'm glad I did. I really love this CD from start to finish -- the tracks are smooth and you can definitely see the influence from different artists on the CD. It's a "chill on a Saturday afternoon" CD (and that's exactly what I am doing right now), and I like it better than his first CD.

My favorite songs on the album: "Crazy" (featuring Jay-Z, it's well written and a really smooth entry on the CD); "Can We Chill" (smooth dance track about being in a club, which I usually hate, but this one is pretty well written as well and I love the beat and melody), "Addicted" (the premise is funny, and if you can laugh good-naturedly at Ne-Yo's grandstanding in the CD -- it's a great song), "Leaving Tonight" (I love Jennifer Hudson, she sounds like a goddess on this CD, American Idol shouldn't have cut her and I hope she comes out with a CD ASAP!) and "Sex With My Ex" (Prince fans should flock to this one, it sounds like something The Artist would've sung.)

5 out of 5 stars Best.......2007-07-06

Neyo has come with his sophomore album STRONG. This is a play right through CD. All of the songs are HOT!

Tank, on Sex, Love & Pain, is like Luther Vandross only slightly lewder: He'll be the first to admit, as he does on the three-part opening track "Coldest," that he's "somewhat of a hustler out here on the street... occasional strip clubs and shots of Hennessy." That doesn't stop him from laying his heart on the line, though. Repeatedly. Midtempo grooves like "I'm Coming Home," a hopeful reunion song, and "Heartbreaker," a limber-voiced lament that outlines a crumbled relationship, show Tank's tender side and take the romantically inclined places more real-seeming than Luther's songs. Throughout the long lineup of love-gone-wrong tracks, the brawny guy with the tattooed back doesn't forget his playful side, either. Before Timbaland sidles up and gets closing track "I Love Them Girls" all trademark-sizzly, Tank does some titillating of his own via the sexed-up steamer "My Body." --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars SOLID.......2007-07-25

Okay - for any of you that don't know... Tank is the most underrated male R&B singer in the game. Granted - he's making his dough... he's working with the Underdogs, and penned most of Jamie Foxx's album - Unpredictable and wrote Ruben Studdard's "Change Me"... the man is a musical genius. He's the kind of guy you want to have in the studio doing the vocal arrangements; they're so layered and rich. The brotha is doing it major on his junior release.

I don't know many brothas that can sing with as much emotion and range as Tank. Hands down, other than Joe and Eric Benet, Tank is what the game needs more of. Like I've heard one person say already - this my generation is into the catchy young hip-hop layered beat with these simple hooks. I'm cool with it, but people don't sing anymore. I mean - there is no distinction between most young artist, and few of them have longevity in the game. Tank shows versatility, range, and style by jumping the cd off like I haven't heard since 112 at their prime. I mean, the opening track shows you some crazy vocals. No offense to the otha brothas - but I have yet to pop in a Chris Brown, Lloyd, Marques Houston, Omarion, or WHOEVER's CD and been wowed by the vocals talent and depth. I've heard many people do their songs better than it was recorded... and Tank doesn't even give you a chance - many people try and fail horribly.. LOL!

My personal favorites are: "Coldest","My Body" "Please Don't Go", "Heartbreaker", and "When"

There is one part that upsets me about this - I was mad that Blackground didn't take the time to separate the Intro - which is BEASTLY. I mean Tank opens up w/fire reminiscent of when people did interludes. He also reaches some ungodly note when he segways into "Heartbreaker" (which also should've had a interlude to it). The unfortunate thing about it was Joe had a banging CD and Musiq did as well... not to mention Trey Songz and Mario are also highly anticipated projects. So this year for male R&B singer - he has competition. I think that if Tank worked with some other producers and really diversified his CD and made it one of those albums that you can't skip a song, he would be in there! He gets 3 stars alone off of his talent! And another star because of some beast "interludes" and infectuous melodies of some of his songs. It's a solid CD - I haven't taken it out of the disc changer since I got it... It's worth tha money!

4 out of 5 stars R & B is back.......2007-07-19

Wonderful cd. Listened to it 3 times in a row. Im glad he's back. Songs are very well written, kind of reminds me of Jaheim "Ghetto Love" CD.

5 out of 5 stars Lovin This CD.......2007-07-13

This cd stays in constant rotation in my player at work and home. I love the whole cd, especially "My Body" and "Who Dat". Tank out did himself on this one.

3 out of 5 stars Left alot to be desired.......2007-07-04

Anticipated this album so much, but it turned out to be a let down. Most of the songs sounded the same, you would think he would write himself a lot of #1 hits as he has done for others but it just wasn't the case here. I really gave it a 3 because I still think he is so sexy.

5 out of 5 stars BANGING.......2007-07-03

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST AND BANGING CD I HAVE PURCHASED. I AM LOOKING FOR TO THE NEW CD FROM TANK, TYRESE AND GUIWINE. SORRY IF I SPELLED SOMETHING WRONG. I LISTEN TO THIS EACH AND EVERYDAY. GOOD JOB TANK

Amazon.com's Best of 1998

The first solo album by the Fugees' most distinctive voice quickly wipes away the pretensions of so many current hip-hoppers' discs. It does so by both engaging their widescreen ethos--"To Zion," with its martial drums and gospel choir, is as epic a production as has been heard in 1998's pop music--and speaking the plain truth. Miseducation focuses equally on Lauryn Hill's life (especially the birth of her child) and social concerns about the present and future. Its often quiet surface, if anything, lends intensity. --Rickey Wright

Reminiscent in its scope of nothing so much as Aretha's early-'70s Spirit in the Dark and Young, Gifted and Black, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill also easily earns its late-'90s place next to Erykah Badu's Baduizm. Even more personal, if hardly any more political, than cohort Wyclef Jean's Carnival, Miseducation focuses equally on her life (especially the birth of her child) and social concerns about the present and future. Its often quiet surface, if anything, lends intensity. "Everything you drop is so tired," she scolds artistically dead-ended rappers on "Superstar"; if more artists shared her vision, occasional eccentricities and bottom-line talent, she wouldn't have to complain. --Rickey Wright

By now we all know how ground breaking this CD was. Almost 10 years later it's still ahead of it's time. Hill paved the way other singers, and other sounds. From the slow sad songs, to the upbeat I am woman hear me roar lyrics, Hill lays it down.

5 out of 5 stars Just amazing.......2007-03-31

Leaving the Fugees and making an album for the music industry was a great move. This album gives us great songs like "Zion" and "Nothing even Matters" a duet with De'Angelo. This album is one that you will find yourself listening to for days because it is so unique. Her voice mystical, passionate and touching. Join her on her journey.

5 out of 5 stars top of the hill.......2007-03-08

Lauryn Hill is a fantastic singer. I wish she would put out more CD's. It is a thrill to hear every song she sings on this CD. She is the BOMB!!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.......2007-02-19

This is truly one of the classics in my collection! I still remember the chills I felt when I initially listened to it - Lauryn Hill is one of a few female artists who can truly sing & rap well. I knew about her skills from listening to The Fugees but she really blew me away with this release because honestly, at the time of the release my interest in hip hop/rap was waning.

I had heard all of the hype surrounding the album but didn't buy it until EX-FACTOR was released as a single - I was curious like most and wondered whether the album truly deserved all of the Grammies and attention but after one listen, my answer is a resounding YES! When an artists produces a disc that people from all walks of life, interests and music tastes can appreciate then they have done something special and that's what TMOLH did.

The commentary of the album touches on love, ill-fated love, the music industry and a bit of religion but at no time did I feel I was being preached to or told how to feel or think - she espoused her beliefs and offered a glimpse into her heart which in turn touched my heart on more than a few tracks. I also loved the school house interludes which seamlessly moved the tracks along - whereas some album interludes are intrusive and create bloat in albums, these worked with the tracks and served as semi-introductions.

I love this entire album but to this day, the tracks that really touch my heart are:

EX-FACTOR - heartbreakingly brilliant break up song; Lauryn's vocals are exquisite on this track

TO ZION - beautiful track expressing her love for her son and the personal decision to have him during the height of her young career

DOO WOP (THAT THING) - mixes great social commentary on male/female relationships over a great beat

WHEN IT HURTS SO BAD - moody tale about unrequited love, I loved the harps used in the musical production & the real pain in her voice

I USED TO LOVE HIM - loved the pairing of her & Mary J Blige's vocals, they sound beautiful together

NOTHING EVEN MATTERS - beautiful duet ballad with D'Angelo

THE MISEDUCATION OF LAURYN HILL - her voice sounds so beautiful on this track

It's never too late to add this classic to your collection - I'd highly recommend it!

If R&B has been drifting lately, Konvicted proves Akon's ready to take the wheel: His reedy voice encapsulates Jersey, Jamaica, and continents beyond (Africa, most notably); his wait-a-beat delivery enhances his high-flying hooks; and his attitude mulches thuggery and womanizing into something worth spreading around. If that's not indication enough he's on a roll, consider the accolades Konvicted is racking up--a Grammy nod for "Smack That" (featuring Eminem), a No. 1 single with "I Wanna Love You" (featuring Snoop Dogg), sales in the millions. To count Akon a musical groundbreaker, though, you have to be ready to embrace a new genre that might take Brian McKnight and Usher fans a little getting used to: hardcore R&B. Both "I Wanna Love You" and "Smack That" don't shy away from raunch, and tracks like "Tired of Runnin'" and "Shake Down" bring on an MC edge that belongs more to the street than to the bedroom. Still, count on Akon to convince holdouts he's worth hearing; both his message and his manner bear the marks of the unstoppable. --Tammy La Gorce

2 out of 5 stars Bland and overproduced.......2007-06-09

This recording is really mediocre, and I think that I know why. It took all the following to produce this. You know the old saying about too many cooks spoiling the soup? Well, that is certainly true for music.

Just as a way of contrast, it took six people to create the Beatles masterpiece Rubber Soul, the beginning of the Beatles' mature phase as musical artists - John, Paul, George, and Ringo, plus a keyboardist and producer George Martin. It took five or six people, as well as a few hundred dollars, to create the 1st Ramones LP, a record that changed music as we know it. It only took seven people, including LL Cool J himself, to produce his great record Mama Said Knowk You Out. All of these are great recordings, in sharp contrast to Akon's piece of musical mediocrity.

Again, this is the list of the way too many cooks on this sour tasting broth. You know that you are in trouble when the producers and engineers way outnumber the musicians.

As with their last hit, Elephunk, Black Eyed Peas' new disc Monkey Business is a joyful cross-genre journey with musical props to hip-hop, rock, folk, funk, and pop. The reason the Black Eyed Peas have audience appeal that crosses over many styles is because the band members are such obvious fans of diverse music. Nowhere is this more apparent than on Monkey Business's high-profile guest list. After Justin Timberlake's contribution to the massive "Where Is the Love" breakout hit from Elephunk, their inclusion of big names once again was a smart, respectful move on the part of the band as well as their guests. "My Style" is Timberlake's BEP foray number two; while the song is funky pop fun, those looking to hear Justin in the forefront are likely to be disappointed, as his vocals are mixed evenly, no sweet soulful solos this time. Other guests of note are Jack Johnson, who cowrote the bling-bashing "Gone Going," Sting on "Union" (sonically inspired by the former Police-man's "Englishman in New York"), while funk legend James Brown contributes to a scorching soul track dubbed "They Don't Want Music." The contribution of female vocalist Fergie--who joined the band partway through their last CD--has raised up considerably on the band's fourth disc, their second as a quartet. Sassily fronting her way through songs like "My Humps," the "Hey Mama"-esque "Dum Diddly" and the first single "Don't Phunk With My Heart," Fergie's melodic contributions make for a record that will likely be heard by wider audiences than ever, making this a truly accessible `hip-pop' CD. --Denise Sheppard

    3 out of 5 stars Pretty good.......2007-01-31

I got this a a gift, so at first I was not sure if I wanted to keep it of sell it, as I am not really a BEP fan. In all honesty I know very little about this band, a song or two here and there. I decided to keep it and give it a try, I don't like the popular "hits" that much from this album, but was suprised at some of the really good album tracks. The players are very good on this album. There is a real sense of old school funk here that I really like.
I guess you never know what you will like till you give it a try.

Oh my gosh! What can I say about this highly anticipated album. For all you reggae lovers, this is de wickedest riddim around. Collie Buddz has put out some great tune. If you love de fast riddim, "Mamacita" is the jam for you (my new ringtone!). "Blind to You" and "Tomorrow's Another Day" is also hottt!! The most popular tune, which has been highly publizised is "Come Around", which features Collie's debut song which he also has a music video for. I can't wait for his next music video to drop. I would love for Collie to showcase OUR beautiful country BERMUDA in the video. A great scene would be at CUP MATCH, the NON-MARINERS race, BERMUDA DAY etc. He could even take a ride on a vintage moped or something.
Anyway, all the best to Collie and Big-Up to all the Bermudian supporters!!! Buy this CD! You won't be disappointed!!!

With A Girl Like Me, the Barbadian teen-queen Rihanna is looking to transfer all claims of royalty to the summertime pop charts. If anybody's going to rule them, she pretty much proclaims by way of "SOS," a song no less irresistible, intoxicating, and all-out cool than 2005's "Pon de Replay," off her debut, she's it. That's not to say this new disc is anything like its predecessor overall. Where Music of the Sun was mostly what its title suggests--a romp through an anglo-friendly island with no sunscreen required--A Girl Like Me is more reflective and a little rueful; you get the sense it was crafted in part to show her range, with executive producer Jay-Z guiding her through it gracefully. "Unfaithful" is a noir-ish testing of the R&B waters, and it goes so well that Rihanna wastes no time skinny-dipping her way into the deep end--"Final Goodbye," "P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)," and "A Million Miles Away" all betray juicy bits of Beyonce. Back in barefoot bikini-girl land, though--a territory that covers roughly half this disc--the party's still going strong. Rihanna gives dancehall legend Sean Paul a run for his money with the bouncing "Break It Off," and "We Ride" makes you want to roll down the windows and stick your head out the passenger side. Crank it up and keep the sunglasses handy. --Tammy La Gorce

    3 out of 5 stars A Girl Like Me - actually 3.5 stars.......2007-07-21

I was pleasantly surprised while listening to this disc - after hearing the first 2 singles, SOS & UNFAITHFUL, I wasn't sure what to expect but this is a terrific offering of pop with a dash of the island sounds so prevalent on her debut album.

I was worried that the label was rushing out another album too quickly and that it would be horrible & filler heavy but with an "artist" like Rihanna, this is proving to be a smart tactic - she is not a great vocalist but the producers & writers she's working with ARE adept at creating catchy singles that top the charts.

In addition to the two singles, I mentioned earlier other standout tracks are: KISSES DON'T LIE - I love the bass played throughout the song; FINAL GOODBYE - I love the guitar solo, she sounds really good on this track; BREAK IT OFF - nice dance track but Rihanna sounds like a guest on a Sean Paul track; PS (I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU) - nice chilled down groove; A MILLION MILES AWAY - pretty spare ballad; IF IT'S LOVIN THAT YOU WANT, PT II - I love the beats used on this track & WE RIDE - light r&b/pop track that makes good use of her vocals.

Rihanna is not a powerhouse vocalist but overall this is a well-produced, fun album that I really enjoy listening to.

4 out of 5 stars Rihanna- A Girl Like Her Is What We Need!.......2007-06-23

This review is a little late since Lil' Miss Sunshine has brought out her third album but thought I'd get it in anyway. Coming off the major impact she had with her debut album Music of the Sun, Rihanna came back at us quickly within an eight month period with her sophomore CD called A Girl Like Me. On this album, it sticks with what made her such a sensation stateside with the dance grooves and party songs. But you can see the transition into more emotional songs and ballads to try and show her vulnerable side. Even though a couple of songs I could have done without, there were moments where she really came through.

With S.O.S. which samples from the 80s song Tainted Love, she had a great opening and hit song to draw to her album. But that only tipped the iceberg. Unfaithful took sometime to grow on me, but you can see that she was making that effort to show off her vocals and that life isn't always a party. A couple of songs that helped to do that even more was Selfish Girl and A Million Miles Away, a song based on a relationship that is on the verge of breakup and can feel each other drifting apart even when they are near one another. That was a splendid song in my opinion. She still also keeps with the Carribean flavor and upbeat feel with her beats and production in songs like Break It Off featuring one of the lead men of dancehall in Sean Paul and We Ride. The song that really did it for me on this CD and made me fall for her even more was P.S.(I'm Still Not Over You). I mean, Wow! It talks of maybe her writing a love letter to an ex and recalling moments in their relationship that she still hangs onto and how she has never really let go and may never will. It may be a true essence of what happens when we let someone that we truly care for and love so much get away, whether more than likely the one that left is the one that will be hurting the most in the long run. Truly amazing song in the way she wrote it, how the beat catches you and how the whole track just flows!

This album in my opinion is much better than her debut CD, which was a instant smash to say the least. As I said, she sticks with what got her here in the upbeat, happy-go-lucky feeling tracks but starts to take a chance in standing out on a limb with some deeper under the surface songs that come from the heart. It's a mixture that start to display what type of talent we may have on our hands. If only they would have stuck to that on her following album a little more... but for this go round, it really worked out brilliantly!

    4 out of 5 stars A very good r&b album in a very bad r&b world.......2007-05-20

If you have heard her singles SOS, Unfaithful, We ride and you like them, you will love the album because these tracks are not the best songs on the album. For me two better tracks are P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You) and A Girl Like Me. You also have the good reggae track Break It Off feat. Sean Paul, the other reggae tracks like Crazy little thing called love and Dem Haters are ok.

4 out of 5 stars good offering of r&b/pop/reggae music here.......2007-04-22

    Album Description

Before the sudden passing of the great Gerald Levert, he teamed up with his father Eddie Levert Sr. one more time to record this smash album. The last time the two worked together they released a great collection of music with the album Father and Son.

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars Sadly Disappointed.......2007-07-17

I was sadly disappointed with this CD. Unfortunately, it sounded like it was not completed prior to Gerald's untimely passing and Eddie's voice was digitally added to the tracks.

5 out of 5 stars My love is gone but not forgotten.......2007-07-03

I have listen and cried just to hear the strong and handsome voice of a man I LOVE so Dear. Gerald's music is a blessing to me, I Thank God he allowed Gerald to pass this way! The CD is an AWSOME piece of work, if you do not have this project in your collection. I urge you to get it, you will be blessed.

4 out of 5 stars What a PHENOMENAL duo father & son made!.......2007-07-02

Eddie Levert Sr. & Gerald Levert were perhaps one of the most soulful, powerful duos to ever live in my opinion. What may be most perplexing about the second collaboration between father and son, SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT, the follow-up to the exceptional FATHER & SON, is the pair sound even closer vocally than they did on FATHER & SON. Indeed, history may have never seen two voices who complemented each other any better than Eddie Levert, Sr. and his greatly missed son, the late (hard to say that), great Gerald Levert. While FATHER & SON will always be the definitive duet set between the two, SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT is a brilliant effort, finished just prior to Levert's sudden death in November 2006. There is no "Wind Beneath My Wings" or anything that is as soulful as the brilliant, better-than-original remake of the O'Jay's "You've Got Your Hooks In Me", but soul, sweat, and vocal perfection ooze throughout SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT. I have to say, Gerald would be so proud, and I know Eddie is definitely proud of this fine addition to the Levert catalogue. If only Gerald were still here...

The album starts with the rousing "S.O.S.", where any Levert fan instantly recognizes the power and soul of the Leverts. The production is contemporary enough not to sound dated, but soulful enough to recall the power and vigor of 1970s soul. "I Like It" doesn't downgrade or sacrifice any quality, keeping both the new and old alive via soulful production. Once again, the melding of two voices with only small variants makes for another hit. One of my personal favorites follows via the Grammy worthy "Close & Personal" in which both Leverts bear their souls and achieve such a raw grit within their voices. The production lies somewhere between R. Kelly's "steppin' music" and vintage 70s & 80s sou. Equally good is the follow-up track, "That's What I Do", where the Levert men slow the tempo down and sing a beautiful ode to women - one of the most tear-wrenching duets of the album, where Levert tells the woman she should be "given carte blanch". The refrain is certainly the most catchy and most beautiful of the entire album, making you wish that the 4:08 track lasted for days. While not necessarily as good as "Close & Personal" or "That's What I Do", the great "Bad Habit" provides the fifth consistent track of SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT. The refrain is absolutely marvelous in which the duo sings: "I can't let you go, baby you've become my bad habit..." I have to say the Levert men NEVER miss a step nor a beat.

"Slip Away" features production reminiscent of the sensual R&B sound of the 1980s and once again the Levert's provide for another top-rate number. The remake of "Something To Talk About" doesn't rival "Wind Beneath My Wings" for the best cover track, but it is a very worthy remake with very smooth background vocals that absolutely make the track. Honestly, the Leverts are very good at covers, moreso than a number of other artists. "Make It With You" isn't bad either while "Tapped" is another personal favorite of mine in which any doubt of datedness with the group is erased with its playful production job. "A Situation" isn't the best track on the album, but it is definitely solid and above par. "Get To Know Me", the penultimate track is very welcome here while
"The Simple Life" proves to be phenomenal ending to an overall exceptional final album by the duo that should've lasted forever.

Overall, there isn't a misstep on SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT. It is well produced and I think it is another exceptional addition to the R&B market in 2007, which I think has been very strong this year in particular. Gerald Levert, you will never be forgotten. Your music and musical contributions are timeless; death can't make us forget you. 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Eddie Levert Sr. and Gerald Levert (RIP) give us "Something To Talk About".......2007-06-25

You can't say that you're a fan of r&b music if you don't know anything about Eddie Levert, who is a member of The O'Jays and Gerald Levert (RIP), who was a member of Levert, LSG and had a grand total of 9 solo CDs and 1 CD with Eddie previously entitled "Father & Son". I grew up listening to Levert and their classics such as "Pop Pop Pop Pop (Goes My Mind)", "Casanova", "Just Coolin'", "My Forever Love", "Baby I'm Ready", "I'm Still Waiting", "All Season", "Quiet Storm", "ABC 123", and "Rain". Gerald Levert then went solo with such classics as "Baby Hold On To Me w/Eddie Levert, "Can't Help Myself", "That's The Way I Feel About You" w/Mary J. Blige, "Strings Strings", "Baby U Are", "You're A Keeper", "(They Long To Be) Close To You" w/Tamia and "Funny". Out of all of Gerald's solo CDs my favorite ones have to be "G", "Private Line", and "The "G" Spot. I found out that Gerald would be releasing a solo CD in January of this year and that it would be entitled "In My Songs". Eddie Levert starts the CD with a short intro and Gerald takes care of the rest. My favorite tracks ended up being the title track, "I Don't Get Down Like That", "Sweeter", "Wanna Get Up With You", "Hang In There" and "Is This The Way To Heaven?". "In My Songs" then became my favorite solo CD from Gerald Levert. The last CD that I heard Eddie Levert on was a CD that was released by The O'Jays in 2004 entitled "Imagination". My favorite tracks ended up being the stellar slow jams "Make Up" and "Why You Wanna Settle For Less".

I didn't even know "Something To Talk About" was going to be released until I was doing some father's day shopping on amazon.com. "Father & Son" was the 1st CD from Eddie & Gerald and it featured the classic "Already Missing You" and a nice update to the O'Jays' "You Got Your Hooks In Me". "Something To Talk About" was released just in time for Father's Day on June 12, 2007.

The CD starts off with my favorite track on the entire CD, the silky, smooth "S.O.S.". Gerald breaks down a situation where his woman has left him and he's trying to see if she is ever going to return. He apologizes for what he has done wrong. He just doesn't feel that what he did called for her to leave him for good. Eddie plays the point guard on the track and gives a nice assist on the track. "I Like It" sounds just like a track that would have been on "In My Songs". This uptempo jam is definitely another one of my favorites as Eddie & Gerald tells us how a particular woman is making them feel. "Close & Personal" is an adult steppers' jam and even if you don't know the actual dance you'll be out on the dance floor doing your favorite 2 step to the track. "That's What I Do" reminds me of "Sweeter" from "In My Songs" as Eddie & Gerald are asking a woman why would she be settling for 2nd best and not try to be with someone like them that would put her 1st and treat her 100% better. "Bad Habit" continues the tradition of Gerald Levert making sexy slow jams for the ladies like he did on "Deep As It Goes" on "In My Songs" and how he did on LSG's (Levert, Sweat, Gill) "My Body". Eddie & Gerald talk about how being with this particular woman has become a bad habit for the both of them. Just as someone would have a favorite cookie, candy or type of food as a bad habit. "Slip Away" describes a situation where Eddie & Gerald just want to get away with their lady and take a vacation. The whole point is just to take a break from their everyday lives to just be able to spend time with their lady. "Make It With You" has Gerald & Eddie telling women to not be afraid to take chances when trying to get to know who they feel is a special person because of things that may have happened in the past. That doesn't mean get to know every man that tries to get to know you. It means that if you meet someone special you never know what the future may hold if you just take things a day at a time, so don't be afraid of the situation. "Tapped" has Gerald & Eddie talking about a woman or women who haven't had any good lovin' in awhile. Since their history with men may not have been good, they decide that want to listen to their girlfriends and pick up some of their bad habits. Sometimes, as Gerald says in the song, you have to "give it up and turn it loose" and just have some fun sometimes. "A Situation" has Gerald & Eddie describing a course of events where they may have met a pretty lady and even may have wanted to "Do Thangs" but since they are already in a situation that they can't play a part in anything like that. Any man should be able to understand this song because events like these happen often for us. "Get To Know Me" has Eddie & Gerald talking about how women should try to get to know the real them instead of paying attention to them being celebrities or anything that tabloids or some kind of rumor may have said about them. "The Simple Life" is Something To Talk About's "Wind Beneath My Wings". The song is definitely a thoughtful slow jam and if you really listen to the track you may actually learn something and be able to apply something to your everyday life.

The title track, although Eddie & Gerald do give a nice effort, just doesn't work for me. However, that doesn't take anything away from the overall quality of this CD. If you liked Gerald's and Edwin "Tony" Nicholas' effort on "In My Songs", then you'll definitely enjoy Eddie Levert Sr.'s, Gerald Levert's and Edwin "Tony" Nicholas' effort on "Something To Talk About". If you have ever been a fan of Eddie and Gerald's music then you shouldn't pass up on this classic.

The entire CD is excellent. My favorite is "Tapped." Eddie and Gerald has really outdone themselves!!! I wish I can say there will be more to come, but, I can't; but, God will give Eddie, Sean, Marc, Joe, and Men at Large to continue Gerald's legacy, as well as his passion of R&B. Father and Son, Part 2, and at the Leverts' best. Miss ya and love ya, Gerald!!

Thank you, Eddie and Gerald! God continue to bless the Levert family with continued success, and keeping Gerald's memory and legacy alive and strong!!!

Their remake of "Killing Me Softly" was the hit, but that's only the beginning of the story. A hip-hop trio whose talents reach out into the world of the pop song (Wyclef Jean is a fine guitar player, and Lauryn Hill's a heck of a singer), the Fugees are also all distinctive, inventive rappers--you find yourself waiting for each of them to take the next verse in turn. The beats are the familiar crossed-armed boom-bip, but the group's understated grooves and subtle effects lie low in the mix. Aside from two kicky covers of classics (the other is Marley's "No Woman, No Cry"), The Score's focus is on the stars' rhyming with the free-form grace of performance poets and showing that they've thought deeply about the issues they raise. --Douglas Wolk

5 out of 5 stars Landmark album for the Fugees.......2007-06-04

I've always thought the Fugees(minus Pras) was great even though their first album was suspect. This follow up album destroys any memory of the first one completely. Even though Pras is the weak link of the group, he doesnt stop this album from being less of a classic. Guest apppearances like Rah Digga, The Outsidaz, Diamond D and John Forte'(somebody let me know what happened to him Peace) shine right along with the Fugees. The production for the most part was great too. Even though they caught a lot of criticism from certain up north Mcs(no names need because they're not that important)because they sold more than these bums ever will, this album is still one of the highlights of 96. Standout Tracks: HOW MANY MICS, READY OR NOT, ZEALOTS, FU-GEE-LA, FAMILY BUSINESS, KILLING ME SOFTLY(masterful rendition of the old Roberta Flack classic), THE SCORE, THE MASK, COWBOYS and MANIFEST. Filler: None. Bottom Line: Fugees' The Score is one of the best albums of 96 and is their best album ever. It still sounds great after all these years.

    5 out of 5 stars Tight.......2007-03-12

when i was 8 years old i got this album.
10 years later it's still tight, i listen to it everytime i want to
and i feel this is very good. this album is not just a season hit,
    it's a classic, the kind you'd listen to in 20 , 40 years and think -
    it's awesome.

    4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars for the Fugees 2nd album.......2007-02-27

I remember when this first came out 11 years ago I was in 8th grade and almost half the album was hit singles, and multi million copies were sold so I had to pick up the album again (I lost my old one). Wyclef, Lauren Hill and Pras defintiely regorouped after their 1st album didn't create much buzz, and this is the best work any of them have done, before or after the album. All 3 have very different styles but they blend them so well together through the whole album. With 15 songs (2 are remixes), you get 4 ok songs, 1 I skip, the rest are mostly real good songs. Geusts are on 4 songs, and Wyclef has 2 solo's and Lauren has 1. Production is nice as well, with the Fugees doing 10 of the 15 songs, Jean Forte does 2 songs, Diamond D , Salaam Remi and Handel Tucker each do 1 song. A must have album for hip-hop fans.

    4 out of 5 stars THE SCORE.......2007-01-12

EXCELLENT MUSIC, BUT YOU HAVE TO LIKE RAP. THE LYRICS ARE A LITTLE GRAPHIC BUT NOT BAD. PARENTAL DISGRESSION IS ADVISED. BUT FOR THE MOST PART IS A GOOD CD.

    5 out of 5 stars Fugees - The Score.......2007-01-10

Best CD ever. Love Lauren Hill, she is right up there with Eminem as far as rhyming is concerned.
