Yet Another Great Rush Album of The New Rush Era.......2007-07-09

Another great achievement for Rush and their synthisizered sound. Geddy's bass lines are buried here for the keyboards and that probably pissed off a lot of the old Rush fans, but times they were a changing. In the midst of the 80s there was the threat of Nuclear War and Reganomics and synthisizers. Rush took advantage with their musical prowess and kept heading forward. Here are the songs:

Distant Early Warning - I remember the first time I saw the video and Geddy's new mullet and I thought OH MY GAWD! WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO RUSH? I was 15 years old and anything that wasn't hard rock or metal was a waste of my time. How wrong I was. This song is another signature Rush tune. Intense. Great lyrics. Awesome.

Afterimage - Depressing. That's the word I will use to describe this song. Depressing. Written about a friend of the band's who had passed away, this song still gives me chills. Dark. Great.

Red Sector A - Another personal favorite. Written about concentration camps, there is a stark clarity here that Neil portrays in the lyrics that makes my blood run cold.

The Enemy Within - Part I of the Fear Trilogy (along with Witch Hunt and The Weapon)and a live staple for a few years. This is Rush unleashed. The lyrics flow, the music churns. It doesn't get any better than this.

The Body Electric - Is that Geddy's bass? Hadn't heard very much from it in the last dozen songs or so. The title is from a Ray Bradbury short story. The lyrics are pure sci-fi. 1-0-0-1-0-0-1 Binary code. Inventive. Rocking.

Kid Gloves - Great song along the lines of The Analog Kid. The fact that Rush doesn't believe very much in filler is a good thing. Every song on the entire album stands out on its own.

Red Lenses - A very underrated and over-looked song. A personal favorite. Experimental in structure, the lyrics are very cool and trippy.

Between The Wheels - They started playing this live around the Vapor Trails tour and I've always like this song. You know how that rabbit feels going under your spinning wheels. That's kinda dark. Oh yeah!

Overall, I think that Signals, Grace Under Pressure and the forthcoming Power Windows mark the last stretch of truly great Rush albums. Synth-heavy like its brother Signals, Grace Under Pressure showed us that maturing Rush is still great Rush.

A definite departure for the the band at the time but I wore the record out then and am working on the CD now.

Experiences to the extreme!.......2007-06-09

With "Grace under Pressure" Rush continues on the same musical track that characterize their 1982's release Signals and to some degree even 1981's Moving Pictues. The epic song structures and science fiction lyrics are replaced by a more modern and radio friendly approach similar to bands like Ultravox and the Police. Still the music maintained the characteristics that make people appreciate Rush so much and many of the songs have become live favourites for the fans and some even consider Grace Under Pressure to be their best release of the eighties (personally I think it's Hold Your Fire). Because even if their new musical approach in the eighties were influenced by the eighties music wave Rush still were quite far outside of it when it comes to the musical and lyrical ingredients. They still maintained to create something new, fresh and intelligent; a complex lyrical approach linked with colourful, deep and emotionful music. GUP is for you who are in the mood for pompous, catchy, spacey and progressive Arena rock!

Cold War/New Wave Rush Delivers The Goods!.......2007-06-07

The year 1984 finds Rush in a world more terrified of nuclear war than any other period since the Cuban Missle Crisis, as well as a music scene dominated by the likes of U2, Simple Minds, The Police, Tears for Fears and others.

That about raps up Grace Under Pressure, both thematically and musically.

I agree with other reviews that note the darkness of the album (the terms "bleak" and "cold" are frequently used), as well as its "takes a few listens to fully appreciate" feel. However, with that said, GUP is one of several underatted Rush masterpieces from the 80s. I will even go as far as to say that there are moments on this album that are so emotionally moving and powerful that it sometimes rivals Rush's more popular and universally praised efforts. As a matter of fact, while I wouldn't dare attempt to rank all Rush LPs from the beginning to present, GUP has attained a safe place in my top five.

I don't usually do this, but I think that given how good yet overlooked this album is, I will do a brief track by track review:

1) Distant Early Warning-Great opening track, probably the best known from the album, dealing w/ survival in the aftermath of a nuclear war. Most notable about this song is Alex's Andy Summers/The Edge stylized playing, that sets the mood for the rest of GUP.

2)Afterimage-Criminally underappreciated and emotionally charged, dealing with the passing on of loved ones. Just listen to Geddy's delivery of Neil's lyrics (and try to hold back the tears).

3)Red Sector A-By far the darkest song on the album, addressing the Holocaust specifically but mass persecution generally as well. Given Geddy's family history, I don't how he was able to pull off singing this without breaking down!

4)The Enemy Within-Great rocking track (almost danceable) driven by a ska-like beat, but with a forceful and moody edge (i.e., don't expect it to sound like "New World Man").

5)The Body Electric-Neil decided to throw in some good old fashioned Sci-Fi lyrics on this one (I believe it's based on a Walt Whitman poem). While the song has a kind of Thomas Dolby electronic feel to it, Alex manages to throw in a totally crazy solo as well.

6)Kid Gloves-A straightforward, guitar-driven rocker; clearly a concession to the old school fan base.

7)Red Lenses-Very strange, and very unusual for Rush. It's more or less a jam w/ a sort of stream-of-conciousness lyric delivery. Check out Neil's intricate percussion work on this one.

8)Between The Wheels-Perhaps the most downright impressive track on GUP, BTW combines a frankly discordant synth theme and lead guitar work with lyrics (particularly the chorus) that will send shivers down your spine once you read them (I'm so glad they pulled this one out on the R30 tour!)

There you have it. One of several 80s Rush classics that never has gotten it's full credit due, Grace Under Pressure combines new wave fashion and dark, politically and emotionally charged lyrics with a wonderful balance of guitars and synths. Highly recommended.

Are we the last ones left alive?.......2007-04-29

Most Rush folks will say the biggest change in their music was from Moving Pictures to Signals. Musically that might be true but in terms of sheer quality I'd have to say it was from Signals to G/P. For the first time I found myself skipping multiple songs from a Rush album. While I give the album 3 stars which I consider 'good' (if I could give it 2.5 I would), it lacks the power that all albums up to this point possess. The first side is fairly solid with 'Red Sector A' being my favorite by far. Fantastic rhythm and eerie lyrics tell the story many have heard before about Geddy's mom being a holocaust survivor.

The second half of the record is weak. I don't like the rhythm of 'Body Electric' or 'Red Lenses' at all and the off-beat verses of 'Wheels' clash with a catchy sounding chorus. Neil was clearly trying a lot of new things on this record. Some of it worked well and others didn't at all.

While artists like Beck and Radiohead see every new album as an opportunity for reinvention from the ground up, Cake has no such hang-ups. From the uniformly rustic cover art, the jerky rhythms and wobbly trumpet solos, each of Sacramento band's albums is reassuringly interchangeable. But on its fifth, the group's most distinguishing characteristic--John McCrea's deadpan, detached vocals--seems to have been given a makeover. On songs such as "No Phone" and "Tougher Than It Is" for the first time the singer seems, well, like he's actually trying to sing. It's nothing dramatic--the music will still sound immediately familiar to those who even in passing have heard hits such as "Short Skirt/Long Jacket" and "The Distance"--but with certain bands a little goes a long way. --Aidin Vaziri

This CD sucks. No matter how manty times I listen to it, I cant find anything to like about it.

Ive loved most all of Cakes' songs on everyalbum and if I didnt love it then it was at least Ok. Ive tried my hardest to appriciate this album but after 3 attempts Ive lost hope for it. If you like Cake and cant find yourself liking the songs right away dont waste your time trying to lie to yourself.

Tastiest CAKE yet!.......2006-03-29

I am a CAKE junkie - have all their albums - catch any show I can - eagerly await new releases. Pressure Chief was cranked from day one, and I still test the amps in my car with it. Wheels is such a hot arrangement, as are numerous other tunes on here. My wife used to hate CAKE, but this album actually pulled her in because John is a bit more melodic now. "No Phone" got her. Don't pay attention to the negative reviews! Crank this baby and I mean often!

Pressure Chief - More Good Stuff from Cake.......2006-03-11

Another excellent effort from the boys of Sacramento. Nice to see them bring back a little country twang and swang that was missing on their last CD (Comfort Eagle). Cover of Guitar Man is great, and I can't believe it did not garner radio play. This CD has many elements of Fashion Nugget and Prolonging the Magic type songs and will not dissappoint Cake fans at all.

a new evolved sound for CAKE. i wont say its better or worse than the old stuff but its new and exciting. this album rocks the socks off of any other non-CAKE CD i've listened to in my life. possibly the best CAKE one too

Great new direction for HTD.......2007-07-22

Haste The Day's new album shows that they have matured a lot since they're previous albums. The new lead vocalist adds a new dimension for the band.

As always, HTD plays music that makes sense to anyone and that can be related to anyone's life. GREAT CD.

Descent album.......2007-05-19

This is a pretty solid album. Not a big change from the first two major releases. Personally I thought the first two were better, but this is a very descent album

Very Powerful.......2007-03-31

This is my first HTD CD but I have heard a few songs off their previous albums. You can tell they've matured and evolved, but definitely not in a bad way. People are so quick to criticize a band for maturing and wanting to have their own sound. If they produced the same album over and over they'd be criticized for being redundant. Good bands have to progress...or at least they should.

I've listened to this album probably 20 times and it gets better and better with each listen. Very powerful melodies/harmonies, crushing riffs, and powerful drumming. This album is produced very well. It almost has a "prog" feel to it and the lyrics are interesting. I like the way the opening melody is used at the end of the album.

My favs are Pressure the Hinges, White Collar, Vertigo, and Chorus of Angels is an extremely powerful album closer.

A new direction..........2007-03-27

My second attempt at this review since the first one i was looking more at the other reviewers than the album itself..haha.

Personally, I love this album. OK, so its not anything like the previous releases from HTD. The new singer is different. The band has included more atmoshpere and influences to push them from the Zao/AILD/Nodes pack to the Underoath/LIYW pack. Some will not like it, some will love it. The new sound is far more mature than before.

The new vocalist has definitely influenced the songwriting and construction of the tracks. Where before you got the feeling that HTD were trying to be Zao with a better riff-melody combo going on, now you can sense they have sought their own sound. Something thats risky to do in this business as people hate change, and the critics have shown that already. But if you can get over the fact that this is not like previous HTD releases then you will be in for a pleasant surprise.

Overall, yes i miss the old sound. Yes i wish they could have kept the hardcore edge a little more. But once you let that go, you are left with a stunning album with great musical and lyrical flair. Definitely worth a buy for Christian Metal fans. I think this will be a big year and a big album for HTD as there is a lot of mainstream appeal with this release (which again, some will hate). But i reckon they will do well. A great album to keep me rockin at work :)

undefined melodic noise.......2007-03-26

This album shouldn't have happened. If just for a one pure undefiled track that sounded remotely anything like "Haste the Day" I would have spared the negative review. With the departure of the one person who made and directed this band, Jimmy Ryan, obviously came the end to the sound and edge they once had. In the end, they did it to themselves. Right after Jimmy Ryan left the band, the Chaulk brothers, Guitarist and Drummer, started saying how much better the vocal range of their new singer was and how he was going to add new dimensions to the band. We now know exactly what they meant by this, Haste the Day is now Nelson, another brother fronted band.20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Nelson What used to be hardcore is now softcrap and gone are the edgy guitars and bursts of energy that Jimmy Ryan handily supplied. After trying to find something about this album I liked, and tiring of it more and more after the 4th time through it, I figured out what had happened in its entirety. This album is an attempt at sounding like Still RemainsOf Love and Lunacy who quite possibly produced the most kick arse metalcore album ever. In a nutshell, if you'd like to buy this album simply because it's labeled Haste the Day and you've yet to own Still Remains, I recommend strongly that you jettison your cash towards Still Remains and be given this "music" properly done and not fall victim to a band in the middle of an identity crisis. *Disclaimer - This review was not done by an album promoter.*

Maybe the greatest ska album ever: and you don't have to sacrifice your intellect. It's in turns fun, silly, irreverent, political, honest, raw, and the level of musicianship is very high (pun intended) with rich female vocals. A landmark. Get their next album: Celebrate the Bullet and also the other great Tutone band's releases Specials and More Specials

That Missing Sound In Your Mind (you knew it was there!).......2007-03-14

W/o getting too technical, this is the shizzy natty nit.
I love Rock n' Roll. In all it's many incarnations!
That said...to me, ska was always associated with horrible twittering things like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones pudgey horn section or No Doubt or (god forbid) Sublime, where some dead suburban rednex goes in a faux Jamacain accent for drunk frat sing along meltdowns. It was always a inconsequencial wonder where Reggae could've gone so wrong in it's rock baby. -Until I stumbled across this revalation of place and time and rythm and scene. I never thought about it, because I never cared about that "style" of music, but it really makes perfect sense. Bob Marley, Toots and the Maytails, all that big Jamacain sounds folks love. Ramones/Sex Pistols, the growl of Patti Smith's "Redondo Beach" or some New York New Wave Blondie/Talking Heads badfun stuff. It's London, It's the late 70's, some black Jamacain Brit kids are making the music for the times and damn it's as good as sound can sound, believe that!!
If you like Wire, or Bad Brains...
Every Single Song on this album is easily brilliant. This is the kind of rock that is so rare that people should staple it to thier bodies and wear it instead of gold and diamonds. We live in a sick world where a guy like me who's damn near heard it all hadn't heard this until just recently. I'm not trying to deduct cool points from myself, I'm just trying to give you some- if you cant make up your mind wether to get a copy of this or not, you'd better just get it and jive out.

A lost classic - one of the best albums I own!.......2003-04-20

The Selecter's "Too Much Pressure" is the single most overlooked album of the U.K. ska revival, and in my opinion, the most overlooked album of the late-70s/early-80s.

Fans of the short-lived U.K. ska revival are probably familiar with The Selecter, but unfortunately most don't own "Too Much Pressure". It was out of print until 2002, and then only released on a small indie label in the U.K.

The album was originally released in 1980, following a few key singles, on the then fledgling 2-Tone label. Those early singles - "The Selecter", "On My Radio" and "Too Much Pressure" - are included as bonus tracks on this reissue.

Like other 2-Tone bands, The Selecter is indebted to early Jamaican ska, specifically Duke Reid and Prince Buster productions, as well as late seventies U.K. punk. The Selecter is rooted in rock steady and reggae rhythms as well, which aligns them more closely with The English Beat than The Specials or Madness (all label-mates.)

What makes The Selecter completely unique is lead vocalist Pauline Black. Black was born to belt out infectious, punk-inspired ska tunes. Without her, The Selecter would sound too much like The English Beat - not a bad thing, just that Black really makes the band something special. She can back a social statement like "Danger" with fierce intensity and then bounce along playfully to some of the most infectious songs in existence. (Is "On My Radio" pure bliss or what?)

after listening to this selection of hank jr.s , there were a few slections that i had been looking for, but forget the titlesi would recommend this selection to any of hank jr.s fans that are looking for a excellent quallity cd!

Starts to go downhill at this point.......2005-04-27

In my opinion, Hank Williams Jr. - when he did it right - was about as good as it gets in country music. You listen to his records like "Old Habits" and "Whiskey Bent & Hell Bound" and it is hard to get much better than that. But with this album Hank Jr started showing glimpses of what would become his future...and it's not good. He has a terrible version of "The Tennessee Stud" and everything just seems so overdone. He's best on songs like "I Don't Care If Tomorrow Never Comes", "Ramblin My Shoes" and "All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down" - everything else is just filler. And with future albums the filler would get worse until he eventually got to the point he would write things like "This Ain't Dallas" and "Fax Me a Beer". Too bad, terrible waste of talent.

Brilliant album featuring George Jones and Boxcar Willie.......2004-02-11

The standard of this album is set by the opening track, the classic A country boy can survive. The coalition to ban coalitions is one those political songs that Hank is so good, but this is one that a lot of people can empathize with to some extent, whatever their own political beliefs. Of course, everybody feels like joining one of those coalitions at some time or other, when things or values they treasure are threatened. Tennessee stud is a cover of the classic horse song by Jimmy Driftwood. Rambling in my shoes is a duet with Boxcar Willie, a singer who achieved fame in the UK but, as I understand, remained virtually unknown in his homeland. Boxcar also contributed the train whistle effects. The title track is a smoldering bluesy song.

All my rowdy friends have settled down, lamenting how his friends no longer spend as much time enjoying themselves drinking, was one of the biggest hits of Hank's hugely successful career. I don't care if tomorrow never comes, a great duet with George Jones, is about having a good time - so perhaps Hank found one rowdy friend he could still drink with. Weatherman is another great bluesy song, in which Hank begs for a change in the weather. Every time I hear that song is another lament, this time remembering someone he misses. The controversial Ballad of Hank Williams, in which Hank makes his views on his father clear to the tune of Battle of New Orleans, completes an outstanding album.

This is, by Hank's standards, quite a mellow album, proving that he can be brilliant even when he's not being rowdy. Although I normally prefer him when he's rowdy, I enjoy both aspects of his music and the strength of the material here ensures that this is one of my favorite albums of his.

Hank's Best.......2003-07-20

This is definitely my all-time favorite Hank album. When I was a kid my dad had this on vinyl and I remember listening to it the night before going fishing in Gettysburg, PA. The memories this album conjures up for me are amazing. My favorite song is probably 'Tennessee Stud' with its "Johnny Cash-like" vocal delivery. Of course the classic 'Country Boy Can Survive' is on this one which is very fun to perform at karaoke by the way. Other highlights include 'Ramblin' In My Shoes' featuring the late great Boxcar Willie, 'Mr Weatherman' which reminds one a bit of Eric Clapton's 'Wonderful Tonight', and the title track 'The Pressure Is On' where Hank's Greg Allman influence just shines. In my opinion this CD is a must-have for all country fans. It sounds just as good today as when it was first released and will sound good until we're all gone. It is timeless!!

Over the course of a handful of albums, John Brown's Body has gotten tons of props for its approach to reggae. Far from being some Bob Marley cover band that plays reggae night at a Daytona Beach bar, the Boston/Ithaca, NY-based band fuses socially conscious lyrics with a vintage roots sound epitomized in the use of B3 organ, a horn section, great harmony vocals and a general warm analog production sound that recalls reggae's 1970s heyday. The eight-piece band's first album for the great Easy Star label sticks with that sound while also tastefully updating it with a bit more pop melody carried on the vocals, particularly on "Blazing Love" and "Make It Easy." Those looking for something more rootsy among the dozen songs should get what they need from "What We Gonna Do?" or the chugging "Resonate." Some question the band's origins in the Northeast (and not Jamaica), but there is no roots reggae band out there better than JBB. -- Tad Hendrickson

I just saw JBB at the Belly Up and was blown away. I had heard about them before but had never seen them live or bought a CD. I picked up Pressure Points along with Among Them at the show and have been listeing since. Original music, reggae or otherwise, is always refreshing, and original music this good is hard to find.

More awful reggae!.......2006-04-26

Knowing me as a huge reggae fan, a friend of mine gave me this miserable disc to listen to; and if I hadn't patiently endured it as captive audience before my car stereo, I would have ejected it in the middle of the first song. There is WAY too much good if not excellent reggae around to have to settle for this utter mess of fake Jamaican accents, rehashed reggae cliched lyrics, dull melodies, and boring musicianship. Why bother with this garbage when you can have Bob Marley; Peter Tosh; Bunny Wailer; Ziggy, Stephen, Damian or Ky-mani Marley; Morgan Heritage; Steel Pulse; Capleton; Luciano; Cocoa Tea; Anthony B; Culture; Third World; Judy Mowatt; Israel Vibration; Toots Hibbert; etc, etc?? All reggae is not GOOD reggae simply because it's reggae. If you think John Brown's Body is good, I don't think you've heard reggae.

Best reggae album since Heart of Congos .......2006-04-13

Kevin Kinsella takes a fat step back on this album for the benefit of the entire group. Every musician in the band sounds great. The bass is on, the drums. The album is produced by the Easy Star All-Stars, that brought Dub Side of the Moon; maybe that has something to do with it. What is so amazing about Pressure Points is Elliot Martin. I swear to everyone, this guy is on par with Bob Marley, Jacob Miller, Junior Murvin, Horace Andy, etc. Never before have I heard any "modern" reggae that compares to anything from the rocksteady/dub era. One reviewer calls Martin's style dancehall. His style is unlike anything ever heard before.

This album by far surpasses anything that they've ever done, I promise.

A perfect album........2006-03-01

Absolutely stunning. In my top 10 albums of all time. Have listened to it solidly for last 2 months. Most uplifting reggae album I have ever heard. Just check out the songs Bread, New Blood and Picking Up for starters.

Time heals.............2005-12-20

You have to admire the consistency and growth of this group. Then as you listen, you discover savvy songwriting skills and excellent musicianship. For a moment, lets forget that they chose the format of reggae to communicate to the masses. The lyrics mostly indicate righteous, positive messages with enlightenment being the prime motivator. This style of music is healing music. It comes from inside. What about past messengers. John Lennon (with Imagine) or Gandhi with the quote, "Be the change you want to see in the world." Using your success to spread truth and righteousness is a respectable thing to do in my book.

Now for the reggae devoted, there are too many critics at times. Use your own judgement, listen carefully, the world may change. They still have their artistic integrity in tact. Those of you that can't stand to watch an artist grow need to sit back, drink some tea and take a class in songwriting to see if you can do it.........

Sandy's "Deep Relaxation" CD is the first thing I listen to after a long, stressful day at work. I was getting all stressed out for an MRI scan, as I'm a bit claustrophobic. However, we put Sandy's cd on during the scan, and I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep! Thank you Sandy, for getting me through a difficult situation!

Sandy's voice if very soothing and calming. I can highly recommend this cd for anyone who needs to relax during a stressful situation, or just wind down at the end of a stressful day. If you're having difficulty sleeping at night--this will do the trick!

Jimmy's gone.......2007-05-24

its sad jimmy's gone his scream was lighter Steve's scream is lower. the higher scream is more rear(especially with Christian music). So Steve's scream sounds like Demon hunter and most scream bands out there.

Pressure the HInges.......2007-05-12

Definately a great album. They do a lot more singing in this cd, but when it's time to do a breakdown, they do a freakin breakdown. Took me two times listenting to it to really appreciate the new singer Shephen. He's got a little deeper and more metal scream... but is an awesome sound in this metalcore band... it woudn't change him for anything. I would definately suggest this album for any As I Lay Dying, Still Remains, etc. fans. If anyone looking at this cd wants to hear what metalcore is all about, the song Chorus of Angels (#13) pretty much embodies it.

WOW!!!!!!.......2007-05-08

This album is pretty cool. It's a whole new approach for them as a band and it reaches new levels, but the only thing missing is Jimmy Ryan's voiceon vocals! I'm not saying I don't like the new vocalist, but it's too clean. With Jimmy's voice you can hear the hurt in his heart. But I dig HTD and will always support them. And btw. I'm from good ol' South Africa. Go on, and support the cause and possibly the best christian metal band around.

Their best work yet.......2007-05-03

This album is much different from the last 3. They've made a more melodic album this time and the new vocalist is much better. Standout tracks are "Pressure the Hinges", "Stitches", "Chorus of Angels". I recommend getting the special edition for the bonus track "In memory" as well as a cool re do of "Chorus of Angels" The DVD is cool too.

Not Bad.......2007-04-19

It's not as good as Burning Bridges. A few goods songs of which I'll add to my "general" Haste the Day music file (I have all their CD's). They're a great band to see in concert, I look forward to seeing their live version of Chorus of Angels, that should be really cool. All in all its a good CD, Chorus of Angels is one of my favorite songs, and I look forward to future work form HTD.

A Classic CD/ The Concerts Were Wonderful........2006-09-14

I saw Mr. Palmer at The Roxy in West Hollywood on the Tour for this album. Robert played 3 nights, 2 shows a night, I remember after meeting him that he told me "The record company is recording these shows for my next album". Anyway.. back to the show. Robert started the show with "Work To Make It Work", the band was well rehersed and he had 2 Female backup singers. I was a kid, and wanting to witness "history", I saw all 3 nights and the shows got better as I got to know the set list. He did most of Pressure Drop, and assorted songs fron "Sneakin Sally". When we talked after the 1st night, Robert said "he was excited to be releasing a live album". I told him "I'll be the 1st person to buy it when it comes out". He was impressed with this 14 year old Fan from Los Angeles. The next release from Robert was a studio album, and I was Bummed Out. But I'll never forget Robert, lookin' oh so sharp, Crooning 'Back In my Arms", the girls were swooning. The Creole tunes like "Here With You Tonight" had a swinging bouncy feel live. Boy, Folks.. This was an unforgettable evening. I miss Robert, I saw him at House of Blues while he was on tour for his last CD. The guy was a pro. Pressure Drop is a must have CD. Gotta love this man, and his music.

A blue-eyed soul must-have.......2006-03-30

As has been pointed out elsewhere, this showcases Robert Palmer when he had some serious soul, before the "Addicted to Love" period. Featuring Little Feat in their prime, this is a must-have LP for anybody who considers him/herself a fan of blue-eyed soul, or who just enjoys the Feat groove.

I was a moderate Robert Palmer fan but when I heard that he did this Album Pressure Drop and his backup band was Little Feet I had to get it, and I was very happy I did. It is like finding a missing Little Feet Album and so many signature toons...Must have if your a Little Feet fan and if you just like Palmer.

Roy Cousins' Royals sweet soulful reggae will appeal those that enjoy the Heptones or Mighty Diamonds. Mostly a 'conscious' roots vibe. In addition, there is some great backing musicianship.

A friend of mine at Dusty Groove America in Chicago tipped me to this soulful reggae groover. If you like Detroit-inspired harmonies over top deep pulsating riddims, you'll probably dig this as much as I have been. It's been insteady rotation since I copped it and will be for some time. It's an unheralded gem. Highly recommended.
