Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com essential recording
The gruesome details surrounding Tupac's third solo offering are enough to give any music fan the willies. Released when Tupac was in jail serving time for a rape conviction and just after his recovery from being shot-up gangland-style at a recording studio, this was his most introspective piece of work to date. The heavy-hearted album opens up with a radio commentary describing the circumstances surrounding his shooting, and then plunges headfirst into Pac's infatuation with death. "So Many Tears," "Death Around the Corner," and "If I Die 2Nite" are all dark, eerily prophetic tunes that lend credence to widespread theories which suggest that Pac anticipated his impending death. The perpetually thugged-out wonder reveals a more benevolent side when it comes to gender and family issues. On "Dear Mama"--a fitting tribute to his mother recorded in the "Keep Ya Head Up" vein--Pac takes listeners into the loving recesses of his heart, while on "Can U Get Away," he echoes similar respectful sentiments to black womynkind. This is probably Pac's most progressive issues-oriented release before he signed to Death Row and became a full-blown thug. --Dalton Higgins

Pac's Very Best!.......2007-06-09
2Pac made his best album with Me Against the World. He pours out a lot of emotion into this album and he really lets you feel the dark atmosphere that he felt surrounded by after being shot. 2Pac is the very best hip hop artist at getting to your emotions and this album does it better than any other.
one of the best.......2007-05-24
first off i have to tell MTV SUPPORTER that any true music fan knows that mtv has the worst music taste and only has artist that can hopefully sell. sorry we are not all avril lavene or brittney spears fans but you have no idea what you are talking about. Even if you were to take a cruse thro berkely or usc you will find some of the smartest people on the planet can appriciate 2pac.A great album by the greatest rapper period.
Definitive 'Pac.......2007-04-24
This CD is what established Pac as an ARTIST, rather than just a rapper. This is a look into the windows of Pac's soul. Hip-Hop/Rap doesn't get much better than this. Pac proved the diversity, range and depth he had as a Hip Hop artist. This CD actually shined light on the genre!!! My favorite tracks: ALL OF THEM, but the ones in the heaviest rotation are: So Many Tears, and Temptations! Buy this and enjoy!!!
My best Pac album.......2007-04-10
Hence the title, some Pac fans like this the best, others give the crown to All Eyez On Me, Makaveli or even one of the first two. Well all Pac's albums (before the posthumous ones) are fantastic so i definitely respect those opinions. But for me this is the one i listen to the most (which is at least twice a day!!!)
There isn't a single dissapointment here. All the beats are excellent, the guest appearances aren't that bad and limited and Pac shines all the way through. Now i'm not going to review all the tracks as that would take up alot of space. So i'll just comment on my top 5, which are
1. Dear Mama -Absolute genious!!! My favourite Pac song ever!!!
2. F*ck The World - A very haunting beat with 4 short verses of Pac letting out all his anger (he was going through some very hard things back then as you know)
3. Young N*ggaz - A nice jazzy beat while Pac goes through his young days to his present. A brilliant hook aswell.
4. So Many Tears - Known as the darkest rap song ever.
5. Can U Get Away - Alot of people consider this the weakest off the album, but i love it.
Honorable mention: Me Against The World - One of Pac's most instrospective tracks ever
Anyway peace and rest in peace to

Album Description
This release showcases the band's ever evolving ability to go from hard hitting dance floor smashers to top 40 radio hits. While still rooted in electronics with signature synth lines, the new album welcomes early member Anders Odden back by exhibiting more guitar work than on the previous two releases. Apoptygma Berzerk re-invents itself with every release, and this CD is no exception.
Customer Reviews:
I hate it!.......2007-07-12
I simply can't believe how far Stephen Groth has gone into the mainstream. I guess he's always been heading in that direction, but the qaulity of his music has changed drasticly with this album. I had heard that this was ganna be bad, but I didn't think it would be a One Star kind of bad!!! Woa!! It's total Top 40 pop slop meets emo or Indie poser or some kind of lame attempt at selling out. If he stays on this path I'm ganna have to stop supporting him...this album truly bites!
A great album, although radically different from the usual Apop sound.......2007-02-27
OK, let's get one thing clear. This CD hasn't got much in common with the previous attempts of Apoptygma for international recognition. Many people out there accuse Stephan of selling out the "Apop Sound" and maybe that's right, but the bottomline for me is that 'You And Me Against The World' is a truly great album with wonderful tunes.
The guitars have taken precedence over the keyboards allright, but the songwriting is so inspired and the production so impeccable that, all in all, you'd be a fool to ignore this album just because it's different from the previous.
Listen to 'Back On Track', 'Love To Blame', 'Lost In Translation' and if you don't find yourself singing along with the lyrics in 5 minutes... then OK, feel free to discard this disc and listen to the Apocalyptic Manifesto again:)
Not bad. Ever changing is the Apop........2007-02-03
The other review here can be a little harsh, if not ignorant. As a fan of some of the previous albums, I too was a little disappointed in the turn that the band has chosen to take with their 2005 effort. I do prefer the heavier reliance on synths than guitars and the heavy vocal effects.
YAMATW isn't bad. It's just a turn of style. The heavier synth influenced rock has been making its way around the corner with The Killers and fellow synth band Shiny Toy Guns (check out all 3 versions of their freshman release...STG is former Cloud2Ground gurus Jeremy Dawson and Chad Petree.)
If adapting is what is ALLOWING the artists that we have grown to love to continue to make music successfully and BE ABLE TO AFFORD to make more, why are we condemning them? Afterall, isn't that what smart business sense is all about?
I understand the perceived feeling of these "sellouts" that a few of the synthier electronic bands are doing; I love anything synth. But being a good artist means that they know how to evolve.
Eat or be eaten. It's simple.
Get this album if you are a true fan of Apop. If you like the new emo synth rock hybrid, buy this one. If you're a rotten baby with his thumb in his [..]to anyone who wants to experiment, save your money.
A-Poop-Tygma has gone Berzerk!.......2007-01-26
This is the worst album ever made! This is sooooooooo far from the verry good Apoptygma Berzerk album "Welcome To Earth"...that you could literraly compare them night and day. This is a sunny, radio pop, emo-eske, sell out record that is more likely to capture fans of Britney Spears than appeal to fans of industrial music. Don't bother with this album.

Customer Reviews:
One Word: Guitars........2005-11-07
Stephan added guitars into the mix with this album. Although I find guitars pretty much boring, it does add a little substance to the cold world of electronica if done right.
Basicly what we have here at its best moments is a relatively decent new wave album. Terrible lyrics, but that's new wave for you. At its worst moments, you will probably find yourself cringing at just how bad the wording is in context to the beat. I find myself tensing up in agony about 50% of the time.
Best songs: "You keep me from Breaking Apart," "Mercy Kill," "Lost in Translation," and "Into the Unknown."
Worst song, hands down is "Maze" with it's really terrible guitar riffs and seriously laughable lyrics in the vein of post 1990 Metallica.
The bottom line is that if you are a tried and true Apop fan, you're going to buy this and have to make some decisions. Is Stephan selling out? Is it worth it to you personally to even give the disc a second spin? Do CDs make good beer coasters? Only you, the buyer can make these decisions.
Back on track? Not exactly........2005-09-26
I'm finally starting to really appreciate this album after 3 or 4 full listens. I'm not someone who fears change from a band/artist I love. I knew that this album was going to be more pop/rock oriented and even though I absolutely loved the synthy club-oriented sounds of Harmonizer and Welcome To Earth, I welcomed the new stuff with open ears. However, at first it just didn't live up to my hopes. It seemed too derivative for an artist who was such a pioneer of a particular genre, and there's a cheesiness to the whole thing that was a bit tough to swallow.
Now it's grown on me significantly. It may not mark the beginning of any new musical frontiers, but it's quite enjoyable for what it is. There are some cringe-inducing lyrics such as "Like footprints in the sand you've been behind me all along," from the single "In This Together" (which is otherwise the highlight of the album), but where the album really shines is in the music. Analog electro is successfully combined with rock-inspired guitars to make semi-retro tunes that are catchy and fun, if not particularly ground-breaking. Another good thing is that he spared us from much of the filler that was so prevalent on previous albums.
Best tracks are "In This Together," "Love To Blame," "Cambodia," "Back On Track," "Tuning In To the Frequency of Your Soul," and "Into the Unknown." The worst track by far is "Mercy Kill," which has a pretty bad chorus and leaves a lot to be desired. At first I also hated "Maze," which is Apop's attempt at sounding like Metallica, but now I'm slightly embarassed to say I don't mind it.
Yes, I miss songs like "Starsign," "Eclipse," "Kathy's Song," "Suffer In Silence," "Until the End of the World," "Spindizzy," etc., which struck a chord with me immediately and still pump me up when I blast them on the stereo or in my car on the freeway. But I do like the new stuff, too, and I have faith that even if Apop sticks with this sound, he will improve upon it over time and will release something in the future that will once again blow me away.

Futurepop for the Here and Now.......2007-01-10
Even now, two years after it's release, Apoptygma Berzerk's "You and Me Against the World" (2005) is a frequently over-looked and under-appreciated gem in the sea of Futurepop and Synthpop.
While others may argue that this isn't the Norweigan band's best work, it is a pleasantly dramatic departure from the band's synthpop/EBM style of albums past and is a breath of fresh air for novice and veteran listeners alike. Truly, this is a brave new world for APB - who are willing to roll the dice and take a risk, if only to steer clear of a *potentially* stale and sterile format of music. Fortunately, APB makes it through this album, but not completely unscathed. Quite a few tracks didn't even make MY iTunes list - and I'm generous with what music appeals to me . Regardless, those that didn't make my "Blech" or "Meh" lists are proudly and prominently showcased in my iTunes Futurepop list.
Taking on the challenge of a more mainstream rock style, APB's synth-driven sounds temper what could have been an overbearing, almost too-sweet mainstream pop sound. And APB pulls it off - even in a world where the "comptetion" like VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Beborn Beton, Angels & Agony, and Icon of Coil continue to spearhead the genre. Contrast these bands and APB with the alternatives to listening to electronic music (chiefly mainstream pop, rap, et al).
There are several tracks on this album which may catch your eye, rather your ear - which are worth purchasing in- and of themselves: "In This Together", "Love to Blame", "Is Electronic Love to Blame" (a bonus track on the limited edition), "You Keep Me From Breaking Apart", "Lost in Translation".
While APB's "You and Me Against the World" is a dramatic change from the sounds of "Welcome to Earth" and "7", or even "Harmonizer", many of this 2005 album's tracks rank high even in comparison with past hits like "Unicorn" (feat. Claudia Brüken) but not quite up-to-snuff with the very popular, very danceable track "Kathy's Song".
In short: If you like the idea - and the sound of Futurepop/Synthpop to be masterfully peppered with pop/rock-like guitar riffs, intricately arranged, almost hypnotic music, - and if you like lyrics (which can admittedly sometimes seem trite or even stretched and desperate) that take you from gloomy, angst-driven stories to the hopeful and manic, then check out this album!
If my review doesn't quite convince you or if you're new to the band, at least check out the preview of their songs on iTunes. Either way, you're sure to find something you will enjoy.
Emo Tripe.......2006-08-07
Dear Groth:
After "Kathy's Song" and all of "Harmonizer," I get it: you really want girls to like you. That's cool; I want girls to like me too. But I don't go about it by writing songs about how all of my failed relationships are my fault, slathering my ham-fisted lyrics atop minimalist programming and a few guitars. I don't go on for 60 minutes about how worthless I am and how much better things were in the past. I don't become some kind of lunatic stalker, willing to forsake everything else in pursuit of a new, purely conceptualized woman.
Yes, that's an analogy for Apop's dramatic new shift into emo, away from anything I'd feel comfortable suggesting to people who want quality electro/trancEBM/industrial/whatever-the-hell. It's also a damnation of Groth's inability to write quality lyrics. Sure Apop verses have never been the best to begin with, but the writing on this album is almost as bad as Funker Vogt's "golden showers" references. Scratch that: this is as bad as a golden shower.
And don't even try flaunting the return of guitars; this is nothing like "Bitch" or "Deep Red," or the Welcome to Earth tour, where Groth had fun using guitars, and where he had facerocking as a front-and-center concept.
Look, man, you want girls to like you? Stop being so mopey. Combichrist, somehow, has managed to attract a legion of followers at club nights by repeating four measures of bassline with some banal lyrics; if it's you and me against the world, couldn't you at least toss a brother some oontz oontz?
Selling Out.......2006-08-02
Most of the reviewers seem to agree that Apoptygma Berzerk had gone pop or has gone mainstream. Some reviewers applaud this change while others condemn it. Personally, I think the reviewers who claim that they are long time fans and have trouble accepting the new 'pop' sound must not have been listening to the older albums very closely. The 'New Metallica' and 'New KMFDM' critics have a simliar blindspot. They failed to notice that these bands have been recording pop sounding material off and on for years. If any true Apoptygma Berzerk fan enjoys songs like 'Suffer in Silence', 'Kathy's Song', and 'Until the End of the World', then this new album shouldn't be at all shocking. Yes it's a pop album, but it was foreshadowed long ago.
Hmmm?.......2006-06-23
I must say I like the cd. (I am a sucker for good synth pop.) I also must say that I am glad that I did not start my APOP here. I think one cd like this of APOP would have been plenty! It almost seems like they were TRYING to go mainstream! (Cambodia!) Far cry from what used to sound like A-Split Second, and early Frontline Assembly. This is just your standard poppy synth stuff. Nice, but no real edge like the past! If you have started with this one, get yourself "7"! That would be what they SHOULD sound like.

Product Description
U and Me Against the World Baby is a record that clocks one unpredictable year; its fortune and its loss through swollen distortions of keyboards, vocals and guitars, raucous refrains and stuttered observations. Its lyrical content is relentlessly pointed: cartwheeling through stories of bruised relationships, seasides covered in gasoline, humans and overwhelming institutions, biblical prophecy, deadly addictions, masses on autopilot, the wild west and America's manifest destiny, famine and the food chain. Long considered bold and innovative, songwriter, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Priya Thomas came to writing songs on her kid-brother's nylon string guitar after saying goodbye to classical violin. Over the course of 3 releases, she has built a solid reputation for her work through defying trends and never underestimating her audience. A suicide blonde with an adrenalin-charged stage presence and unusual lyrical complexity, shes been likened onstage to a cross between Blondie and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, or the love-child of Iggy Pop and Karen O. But make no mistake, underneath the swaggering stage show is a solid songwriter that can stand completely still and deliver: all the lions and the demons shake the famine on your plate while all the hungry, jingle-jangle hear them rattle the food chain some must drown, some are saved - Autopilot (You and Me Against the World Baby)
