Editorial Reviews

The second installment of Terrence Parker's Three Minute Blunts series carries on the tradition of the compilation (Detroit hip-hop), but with a twist. While Blunts, Vol. 1 focused mainly on instrumental tracks, volume 2 brings on the vocals, with the talents of Sakinah ("Sah-B") Britton and the Native Sons, as well as DJ Slym Fas (a.k.a. Tony Ollivierra), Andre Johnson, Sample O.S., and Parker. Those familiar with the series will recognize the sounds within; this taste of Detroit hip-hop is mainly instrumental, a healthy soup of beats and loops that combines the wild sampling aesthetic that underlies all good hip-hop with the emotion and atmospherics normally associated with European trip-hop. --Matthew Corwine
