Despite claims to the contrary, most rappers don't retire; "final" albums are more marketing ploy than graceful bow. Inevitably, as in the case of also-"retired" Too $hort, the artist resurfaces, either not content with the easy life on the other side of the mic or, more likely, still desirous of the guaranteed platinum sales a few generic songs can produce. Master P, in his alleged swan song, gives us all that and more, producing a double-length album that is perhaps the paradigmatic LP of the No Limit sound, replete with the oft-resuscitated tropes of gangsta rap and delivered over the slick formulas of the Beats by the Pound team. --Jon Caramanica

...[B]eyond a Tupac-influenced timbre and semi-autobiographical tales of ghetto life and business struggles, P doesn't have much to offer as a stylist or lyricist.

5 out of 5 stars This was P's Last Album!!!.......2006-11-08

Most folks say he lied because he dropped more albums. totally false. this was P's last album before going pop. when he realized that he was just unforgivably lame, he tried to take it back to the streets. you cant do that. what was he thinking. i could have slept better if he retired on this album.

5 out of 5 stars best don album.......2005-07-22

This is tha best master p album this and the movie this came out when I was and the 6 grade to lisen to this it's emosional to me it reminds me of back n da day friends I knew all that my favrite song is mama raised me it gots bone,snoop,e-40 all no limit all them it's a great album you can lisen to it most the way though it's a great album gansta classic you gotta get this.

3 out of 5 stars The downfall of No Limit begins.......2005-07-08

Just 9 months after his "Ghetto D" (a solid 4 star album) and after a good amount of quality No Limit relases the past 2 years, Master P came out with "The Last Don" which was supposed to be his last album. A double disc 26 songs album, could have been a 12-14 song album that got 4 stars at best. The result, average, nothing special and after this No Limit began to slide (only a few No Limit albums are over 3 stars after this relaese if you ask me). Once again you don't get much great lyrics, just tales of gangstas and hustlin. Production is decent on some songs and not so good on others -- oddly for the Beats by the Pound crew. Craig B does 5 songs, KLC & Carlos Stephens each do 4, O'Dell & Mo B Dick each do 3, Master P, Sons of Funk, DJ Darryl each do 2 songs. Only 4 of the 26 are P solos's, so once again you get teh whole No Limit staff on the album. It has 2 almost classics, 6 songs I skip, 7 ok songs, and the other 11 are good but only a couple being real good. I'd only recommend it for huge P fans or No Limit fans, he has better work.

5 out of 5 stars From the greatest rap label ever - NO LIMIT.......2005-07-08

And I thought Chingy's "Powerballin" was awesome. Well, Masta P's "MP Da Last Don" just may top it. Every rapper from No Limit is presented here. They are all fantastic, and every track is perfect. Only an idiot would give this album less than 5 stars. This stuff is pure gold. This is easily one of the most influencial underground rap CDs of all time. You would be crazy if you thought otherwise.

4 out of 5 stars A fake way to say goodbye!.......2002-07-12

It was either a tool of marketing for them to lie about Master P retiring or he just came back for the money and the fame because he sure isn't gone. I just found that stupid, so many fans thought he left off in a good way, but he's back now, I guess it's good he's still making music but next time he tries to make a goodbye album it should be for real. Now that I'm done with all that this is a pretty average track for P, but he has some amazing tracks on here, although I expected alot more for his last album, he has alot of talent and has done better in the past but still a must have for any P fan, and good to have in any collection of rap/hip-hop.
